Nestled in the Berkshire countryside, Chalford House is a stately Georgian manor set on 1,500 acres of rolling parkland, undeveloped woodland, and manicured gardens. Built in the late 18th century, it underwent heavy restoration in the Early Victorian Era. It is the country seat of the Earls of Chalford.
The manor house itself holds three main stories and an additional basement and partial attic. Inside, the House contains over 300 rooms, including nearly 70 bedrooms. It also boasts a series of stately reception rooms, each with high ceilings, original cornicing, and paintings from various artists over the last three centuries. The drawing room opens onto a south-facing terrace with views over a formal parterre garden, while the library, lined with oak shelves and warmed by a carved marble fireplace, offers a private retreat. The basement contains the former servants' quarters, including a secondary kitchen, dining room and a number of small bedrooms. The oldest remaining part of the house is the bath in the back corner of the top floor.
The estate grounds are equally impressive. A walled kitchen garden that still produces seasonal fruit and vegetables is attached to the home. A little ways from the house is a number of manicured gardens that are open to the public during the summer holidays. There is also a large stable block where several horses are kept and cared for. Though all 1,500 acres are still owned by the East family, much of the land is leased to various farms, historical organizations, and the Anglican church. A Parish, built during the reign of King Henry VIII, sits one mile from the main house.

• The Estate is owned by Laurence and Amélie East, the parents of Leah Braybrooke and Isla Monroe. As of now, they usually reside in one of the smaller houses on the property but use the main house when they have family or guests staying with them.
• The grounds and gardens are typically open to the public during the summer months. Tours of the main house are also offered on some occasions.
• During the First and Second World Wars, Chalford House used to house both recovering soldiers and evacuee children when needed. Yearly reenactments are held by a historical organization on VE Day on the Estate's grounds.
• Being a primarily muggle household, it is not open to the Floo Network. However, owl post is a somewhat regular occurrence.

Leah was all smiles as she walked through the halls of her childhood home. She loved being back at Chalford House no matter what, but coming during Christmas was extra special. They’d all gotten there that morning, still a few days until Christmas so they had plenty of time to enjoy it. On the main floor, almost every room held a large evergreen tree that had been decorated in various colors of lights and strings of tinsel and berries. They’d also been lucky enough to receive a somewhat heavy snowfall, so that the grounds were covered in a healthy layer of snow. It made the house sparkle. It was also nice to see the house so full. They had the normal holiday occupants, the Braybrookes, Leah’s parents, Matthew’s father, Isla, Jack, and Marigold. This year they’d also invited the Levy’s to join them for as long as they liked. Jack’s cousin and her family would also be joining them for the New Year holiday. She could hear the sound of voices from every corner of the house. Growing up they’d had plenty of visitors going in and out at any given time, but consistently it was just her, her parents, and Isla. A house like this called for a crowd. She’d been glad when her parents had decided to open it to the public during the summer. There at least needed to be new people to admire the art. Her great-grandmother had worked hard on the collection. At that moment she passed a beautiful portrait of that same great-grandmother.
Leah’s attention was drawn by the sound of a bell signaling dinner. With a smile, she headed down the main staircase and into the entrance hall. At a side table Matthew and Clara were playing what appeared to be gin rummy. She thought about saying something, but just gave a small laugh instead. At least Clara was entertained. Matthew looked up from the game and gave Leah a sly smile. “God, you’re beautiful,” he said, making her heart do a little flip-flop. They’d been married close to fifteen years (which was in itself insane) and he still gave her butterflies.
“Stooop,” she said in an overly dramatic voice and she went over and kissed him. “Ready for dinner?” She asked as she pulled away. She could already smell it wafting through the house.
“Very,” he then leaned in close to her and whispered, “our daughter is absolutely destroying me in rummy.”
Clara being a sort of pool shark actually sort of made sense. “Come on then Wyatt Earp,” Leah said, grabbing Clara’s hand as the three of them moved into the dining room. The ornate room held a long table, which at the moment held eight chairs on either side, another chair at the head, and a high chair at the end closest to her. She had spent a long time figuring out the best seating arrangement for a group this large.
Amelia always sat at the head. Papa had surrendered it to her a few years back when she had become rather attached (she had that man wrapped around her finger). She then figured it would be easiest to have Marigold’s high chair at the other end so there was easy access. She’d then placed Jack next to her because she didn’t want to condemn any of the Levy’s to sit next to their current or former professor at every meal. Isla would be a nice buffer. After that it was a matter of making sure the rest of the couples were next to each other and slotting the other children in.
In a few more moments the room was filled with chatter as everyone came to gather. Lunch this morning had been fairly casual so this was their first time in the main dining room. She desperately hoped there were no complaints. It seemed that everyone found their seats easily enough. Leah was keenly aware that the way she and Matthew were brought up was far from the norm, but hopefully no one minded all pomp too terribly much.
After everyone was settled and her father welcomed them all to the meal, dinner was brought out by a handful of servers her parents had hired for the holiday from the village. There was a ham, a turkey, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, various roasted vegetables, peas (that were kept far away from Everly), and a few types of breads and jellies. Hopefully there was enough for everyone to find something they enjoyed.

Everly was quite excited for this weekend. They'd been invited to stay at the Braybrookes' family manor, so she wanted to make sure everything went perfectly. Before they left, she'd gotten a little extra dressed up. No way was she going to look like a schlump during this visit! Besides, it was a centuries old manor house, that was likely super fancy itself. She did her hair in a braided crown, tucking in some sparkly snowflake pins. She felt a little weird in a style not quite her own, but if most of Noah's family was going along, she really wanted to make an impression.
Stepping out of her room, Evie went to make sure her siblings and parents were all ready as well. "Hey, are we all set t--""Ah! Evie's been replaced! Clearly that's a clone, -tch- hellbent on destroying our family!" Everly rolled her eyes with a sigh when Kai interrupted, clearly deciding to be a pest. "What are you on about, you gremlin?" She looked over at him, seeing him gesture vaguely at her outfit. "The real Everly would be wearing something with snaps so no one could thief her sweaters. Ergo, clearly a pod person." She rolled her eyes again, huffing this time. "You will not say that to anyone in Noah's family," she threatened, wagging a finger toward her brother. "Sounds like you're going to return my red and grey sweater you stole, then, doesn't it?" What a stinker!
A short while later, the family was all set to go (including Kai, wearing the retrieved schedule, which Everly vowed to get back!). Everyone looked nice and Evie was quite happy. They left off, before looking around the manor. "Noah!" She squealed happily before hurrying to give him a hug and a kiss. Apparently he'd been sent to show the Levys around the huge manor, and she was quite happy to walk beside him, her hand tucked into his. It made for a lovely afternoon, and she couldn't wait for the fancy dinner he'd mentioned.
After the tour, the group was summoned to dinner, and Everly couldn't wait! She was seated between Noah and Ruth, and Ruth would be safe next to Isla. Plus, Evie was really excited to see Noah's sisters again. It seemed like forever since she'd seen them on the platform! She was very much excited for everything. "Thank you all so much for inviting us to dinner. Everything looks lovely!" She'd have to come up with something super fancy for next time, because of course, it'd have to be hosted at their house! Or maybe she'd just make a ton of desserts. Who could say no to a sweet treat or two?
Noah’s pocket had felt heavy since they’d all left home this morning. Heavy than just the weight the little ring box should’ve been adding. He was doing it. He was going to be a fiance. Hopefully. Supposing it all went well. When his mother had first suggested that they invite the Levy’s along to Berkshire for the winter holidays, he’d hatched a plan. He knew how important her family was to her, so when was there a better time to propose than when the entire family was gathered. There was a small grove of evergreen trees not far from the main house that Grandma and Grandpa always had decorated for Christmas. His plan was to take her there after dinner and ask. Then when they came back, everyone could celebrate together. He just hoped it worked out the way he had planned. So far, only two people knew his plan. Amelia had been with him in London when he’d stumbled across the most perfect ring and he’d had to buy it. She’d known this was happening since August. He always told his dad, hoping that Matthew might have some advice for him. Noah was fairly certain that Mum also suspected what was happening, but she knew nothing for sure.
The Braybrookes had been the first to arrive around 11:00 this morning, with the Levys arriving not too long after. He’d volunteered to give everyone a quick tour of all the necessities and show them all to their rooms. He’d struggled to take his eyes off Evie the whole time. He desperately hoped he didn’t notice. He didn’t want her to think anything was up. He was a bit glad when he had finished and excused himself to the bathroom. He'd come back to her after a short while, it would probably look even more suspicious if he were avoiding her, but it had been good to be alone for at least a few minutes. He’d taken the long way around to get back to everyone and ran into Uncle Jack, who had just arrived. Somehow, the man had managed to get an entire confession of his plans out of him. Of course, all Jack had actually done was ask how he was doing. He felt slightly less like bursting when he saw Evie again and offered a more in-depth tour of the house. By the time they had finished, Noah heard the light chime of the dinner bell.
“Shall we?” He asked as he led Evie into the dining room, smiling. As they sat, and dinner was brought out, Noah could practically feel his heart beating through his chest. He was only mildly worried it might become a full-on heart attack. He distracted himself by filling Evie’s plate for her before working on his own. He realized very quickly that he wasn’t sure what he could say to Evie without accidentally blurting out the words ‘will you marry me’, luckily, Evie spoke, thanking the family for the invite.
“Of course, we’re always more than glad to have the company,” Grandpa East responded with a smile. “Any time any of you would like to come to the house, send us one of those owls. We’d be happy to provide.” Noah just shoved his mouth full of potatoes, hoping there were plenty of people at the table to start a conversation. Assuming everyone could be heard across the giant table.
I feel bad for myself again I keep sleeping in 'til dark out I got issues in my head that run on cups of coffee Nearly 4 a.m., just staring at my body I can't help but think no one'll want me
✿◉●•◦Ruth had some reservations about staying with the Braybrookes but she mainly kept them to herself since her Everyly's happiness was basically palatable. She had thought several years at a boarding school would cure her anxiety surrounding new places but nope, apparently not. At least this time her entire family was coming along as well and just from the few interactions she'd had with Noah's younger sisters, she didn't think they'd be the type to force interaction thankfully. It hadn't taken her long to pack (the majority was pilfered sweaters and hoodies from various family members) so she'd had time to pick out an outfit to where at the seemingly fancy welcome dinner. The young researcher had a feeling it would be a step up from the first dinner party they had done and had dressed accordingly. At her sister's silent approval, she figured her job was done and had instead used the remainder of her time helping her dad find appropriate clothing and being a sounding board as her mum chose what was and wasn't appropriate to pack.
Once all that was settled, Ruth helped carry all their bags down to the living room where Everly was waiting and did a bit of a double take at her very differently dressed twin. At least she had the right idea to keep it to herself, unlike their loudmouth brother who of course had to be the one to point it out. "Oh I love it! You look so beautiful, like a winter sprite!" Caty admired giving her daughter a loving smile but knew better than to hug her at that moment. She was in medium sparkle mode and thought Everly would appreciate being at least majorly sparkle-less for the evening.
"You wouldn't happen to know anything about a certain missing striped sweater, would you?" Finn quietly asked his second oldest daughter who just gave a bland blinking look. "I've never heard of such a thing." Ruth responded knowing full well the sweater could feasibly be in either hers' or her sister's luggage. Her father just gave her a chuckle as he wrapped an arm around pulling her close.
******
After arriving at the manor (which was actually an actual manor like, who knew???) they were greeted by Noah who offered to give them a tour. The elder Levy's oo'd and ahh'd in the right places, more taken by just how large but clearly cared for the place was while Ruth was cataloguing all the places she could disappear into for a few hours at a time. When the time was given, the family was then led to a large dining room and seated with her parents, Becky, and Kai sat on one side and her and Everly on the other, with the latter obviously sat next to her boyfriend. Ruth saw that she was directly in front of their brother and made sure to semi-jokingly make eye contact with him and covertly sign "I'm watching you" towards him. Her shoes were a bit on the chunky side so if she hit an ankle she was sure it'd at least smart. As dinner was served, Ruth's eyes widened at the spread and began to grab for food as she saw the others did.
"Yes! Thank you so so much for the invitation! Your home is so lovely, it was very generous of you to offer to let us stay." Caty piped in alongside Everly, her eyes still shining as she took everything in. "And Noah was a perfect tour guide. Didn't try to sneak away with Evie once." Finn casually slid in taking a bite to try and hide his smirk from his daughters' and wife's ire.

Rebecca Mary Levy Ravenclaw Fourth Year Adopted Muggleborn xxxAvid Tinkererxxx
Location :The Chalford House Company : Family & the Braybrookes
Rebecca was going with the family to the Braybrooke family manor. She knew several of the Braybrooke family so it wasn’t as stressful as going somewhere else might have been. Any reason to get away from school was good enough for her. Lucky for the young teenager she knew how to dress to make Everly happy for the upcoming event. It was dinner after all so, she needed to dress nice. A simple plaid dress and a cardigan sweater would easily do the trick. Plus, she could pull on her sleeves if she got bored. Course if she started doing that Everly might not like it. She’d try her best to be perfect for Everly. Anything to do with Noah was very important to her. Though, perhaps she tried a little too hard.
Being mostly prepared Becca, took a peek to see how Ruth was making out with their dad’s outfit. Luckily, they had Ruth for interference. Honestly if they could all wear cozy sweaters for the dinner they probably would. As evident by Kai commenting on Everly’s attire. Yes, it was different from the usual. Becky much like Ruth wasn’t going to mention anything on the matter.“Your sweater is probably stowed away somewhere close by.”She smiled knowing you couldn’t keep a sweater away from those two.

Arriving at the manor, Rebecca was impressed. Though nothing rivaled Hogwarts castle. Noah gave a tour of the place, Becky looked around studying the details around them.‘How old is this place…?’She thought to herself as she wandered the halls behind her sisters. She glanced at Noah and Everly, she always seemed happy with him. With the day easily ticking by it wasn’t long before it was time for dinner. Becky was between her dad and her brother a comforting place to be. Glancing across the table as Ruth gesturing to Kai. The young Levy child told herself she would make sure Kai didn’t do anything Everly would be displeased with. Even if she’d rather stay out of her older siblings’ way.
With food in front of her Becky, was content with remaining silent for the most part. She smiled a little at her dad’s comment on Noah. It was true, he didn’t even try. How considerate of him, not that she gave it much thought. She liked Noah, he was a nice guy for sure. Not at all surprising to her.

After a wild morning with her goofy family, Everly was quite pleased that everything seemed lovely. They went on the tour together, happy as could be, and Evie did her best to retain every tidbit of information she could... while also noticing all of Noah's cute mannerisms. Gosh, he was so adorable. Of course, she was a bit bummed when the tour ended and instead they were summoned for dinner. After she thanked everyone, Noah's grandpa said they'd be happy to host anytime. Wonderful news! Evie slid a hand over, bumping Noah's before claiming his hand to entwine their fingers. She was about to respond, but Mum beat her to it, so she just nodded along.
And then Dad opted to speak up too. Kai snorted at the commentary. "Must've been difficult, that," he added with a laugh. Everly looked over at them, debating her best threat. "For that, I'm keeping your favorite sweater, Dad!" She waggled a finger, knowing he'd been looking for his beloved striped sweater earlier. She had plenty of Kai's, and he knew that, but for Dad's he wasn't sure which of the twins to blame. "But yes, the estate is very much picturesque. I can only imagine how lovely it must be to live in such a fancy place." Of course, anywhere she'd lived was a lot more cozy, compared to the rolling greens outside. But maybe she could live out her princess dreams in such a fancy place.
"Our house is -tch- cozy... if you like glitter." Kai added, trying to keep control of his little twitches. They were especially annoying during fancy dinners. All they could hope was that he didn't accidentally throw something, as had happened more than once before. "True, there is a bunch of glitter at home. But if Mum stays here for too long, I wouldn't doubt some appearing." Evie laughed, knowing her mum somehow made glitter appear, even after several scrub ups. Of course, Evie wouldn't trade her weird little family for anything in the whole world.
Amelia loved Chalford House more than almost anything in this world. She never felt more relaxed than when she was here. Every time she came, it was so easy to imagine living in a different time. She always had the feeling that she was born in the wrong time (except for the drugs. She was very happy to be medicated and not in an asylum). More than anything, she loved the idea of the life they had lived in this house for the past three hundred years. For one thing, everything was scheduled. There were certain duties you attended to every day, meals were at specific times, and there were servants ready to cater to your every whim. Plus, the townhouse in London when you needed to get away from the quiet of the country.
The moment they had arrived that morning, Amelia had taken all of her things upstairs to “her” room. Some of her siblings stayed in different rooms depending on when they came, but she always stayed in the same one. At the end of the main upstairs hall. It had a large four poster bed, a fireplace, and a beautiful vanity made clear back in 1914. As soon as her things were put down, she did what any sane person would do. Start a fire, throw on a dressing gown, and cuddle herself down in her bed with a book. She’d only emerged when she realized she was hungry, but at that point, it had still been a few hours until dinner. So, she’d made her way down to the former servants’ kitchen and pilfered what she could. Amelia had the feeling her grandparents had made sure it was stocked for the holiday visitors, seeing as nowadays the kitchen was mostly unused outside the reenactments.
By the time Amelia made her way back to her room, she figured she’d better be getting ready for dinner. She wanted to look at least sort of presentable. Amelia had two looks. Sweats and crocs, or the precisely primed and polished vintage wear. There was no in between. The only thing that changed was what decade of vintage. Amelia hadn’t the foggiest idea of what people wore currently. Or really anything that was trendy post-1970. The idea of even attempting to keep up on current styles was exhausting. Plus, what on earth did it matter?
Amelia arranged her curls in a sort of 1940s style, pinning in back with a French comb decorated with holly. She then put on a nice Christmas-y skirt and shirt, finished with a red cardigan that she pinned a brooch to. She then pulled on a pair of thick socks and finished it off with a pair of sparkly red crocs. She was not about to wear real shoes in her own home. In fact, it was shocking she was wearing shoes at all.
After she was finished dressing, she headed down toward the main dining room and took her place at the end of the table. She couldn’t explain exactly why this was her preferred spot, and she’d sit somewhere else if she had to, but it was just more comfortable here, and luckily, no one seemed to mind. Within a few moments, everyone else had come to the table, and soon the food was brought out. She piled her plate high with mashed potatoes and a slice of ham and observed the rest of the table as she ate. When Evie’s father mentioned that she and Noah had stolen away together, Amelia shot her brother a sly look. She could imagine that little ring box burning a hole in his pocket. She wasn’t sure of his exact plan for the proposal, but she knew it was coming. She took another bite of potatoes, more to keep her mouth shut than anything else.
Noah speared a few green beans with his fork, figuring he probably better speak up soon so as not to come off as suspicious, but he at least afforded himself one more bite as he sat and listened to the conversation. As he listened, he heard Finn mention his name and he could feel his face grow hot at his words. He swallowed, trying not to choke on the vegetable. What an embarrassing way to die that would be. He was also fully aware of the look Amelia gave him, and he thought to return it, but again, he didn’t want to chance drawing suspicion onto himself. It didn’t help when Kai added to the commentary.
When Evie spoke, he relaxed ever so slightly. She had managed to leave him an opening to speak.“Ah, so she steals anyone’s sweaters she can get her hands on, then. Glad to know it’s not just mine,” he teased. He knew full well his girlfriend’s affinity for stolen outerwear. At least now he would seem like he hadn’t gone completely mute for the meal.
“I’m quite fond of the estate myself,” Grandpa East replied to Evie's comment, “though I’ll admit, I’m not the best judge, having lived here my entire life, but the splendor is unmatched. Though I will say the smaller houses on the property are a bit more cosy.”
Kai added in a comment about the glitter in the Levy home, and it made Noah smile slightly. Their house was great, and he really didn’t mind the glitter.
“Oh, darling,” his grandmother began in her slight French, “we raised two girls here, not to mention how many party dresses have been in the House over the years. It’s probably suffused into the rugs.”
“Glitter, in some form or another, has existed centuries longer than Chalford House,” Amelia piped in,“so it’s bound to be somewhere.”
Noah couldn’t help but smile at his sister. Of course, she would know the history of glitter. “I’ve found that if glitter exists within three meters of me, it usually finds its way to my person. We’ve had to make peace a long time ago,” he chuckled. What was wrong with a little pizazz anyway? Better than the dirt that often got all over him at work.
As Noah felt dinner finishing up, he could feel a mixture of nerves and excitement bubbling through his stomach. So long as everything went well in the next few minutes, he’d have a fiancée. And he couldn’t imagine a better one to have. The dinner was cleared away, and Noah grabbed Evie’s hand, inviting her on a walk. Amelia shot him another look, and this time he let himself smile ever so slightly as he led Evie through the entrance hall and outside. It was a cold night, but he hoped she wouldn’t mind too much, because it looked absolutely gorgeous. The lights on the house and around the front garden had been turned on, making the whole place twinkle in a warm yellow glow. He walked forward, slowly leading them in the direction of the grove.
“Are you enjoying yourself?” Noah asked as he ran his thumb over Evie’s hand, enjoying the feel of her hand in his. “I know this is pretty…different than you’re used to,” he said with the smallest laugh, “but I hope everyone feels comfortable.”
Somehow, he could already feel tears prickling at his eyes as they turned the corner and down a cobblestone path and into the grove. There were large evergreen trees all sparkling in the lights and snow. There was a fountain in the corner that was still for the winter, but looked beautiful covered in snow.
It was quiet except for the crunch of snow was they walked. Noah’s throat felt full as he moved to look her in the eyes, as he took both her hands in his. “Everly…I…” he took another deep breath to steady himself. “You know, since we met, I’ve been…a little crazy about you. It took me long enough to get up the courage to even…talk to you in that way, but I couldn’t be more glad that I did. Even though we were kids, somewhere I knew. You were it. I never felt like just a childish crush. It was just us being us. Since the moment I knew that you felt the same way, I’ve wanted to live our lives together.”
He let go of her hands and knelt on the snowy ground, barely feeling the cold. He took the ring box from his pocket, his hands shaking just slightly. He opened the box revealing the gold and purple ring. “Everly Robin Levy, will you do me the great honor of becoming my wife?”

Conversation at dinner remained lighthearted, but she couldn't stop herself from stealing glances toward her boyfriend. She still couldn't believe how lucky she was to have met him, much less to be in a relationship! Even better, after dinner, her hand was claimed and Noah started to lead her on a walk. Oh my gosh! How absolutely romantic! Evie gave his hand a little squeeze as they headed out, not noticing her brother glance over at her parents with a smirk. No, all her focus was on Noah, and she wouldn't have it any other way.
Blue eyes sparkled in the garden lights as Everly looked over. "This is the most wonderful vacation. I almost don't want to go home!" That much was very true. This place was unlike anywhere she'd ever been, and beyond her usual thoughts on travel. She laughed along with him, shrugging her shoulders. "It's different from our usual vacations, but I think everyone's happy. Kai complained a bit, but I think that's just because he's an older brother." She laughed as she nudged Noah's shoulder, absolutely confident Kai would do anything for his sisters.... as would Noah, in similar circumstance.
As they turned down a little path, Everly couldn't help but take in the sights. Everything, from the twinkling lights to the snow-capped fountain were absolutely picturesque. And she didn't have a camera! Suddenly, they stopped, her skirt swishing and sending a few snowflakes swirling with the motion. Noah had claimed her other hand, but she couldn't say she minded. After all, it meant she could look him in his beautiful eyes. As he spoke, she listened diligently, nodding along. As he continued, her cheeks warmed a bit. Was he...?
Her hands were let go, and on instinct she pressed her palms together, covering her mouth as her eyes sparkled with an electric excitement. As he knelt in the snow, her heart skipped a beat. This was really happening!! It took all her restraint not to squeal with excitement as he opened a small box and revealed a dainty ring. "Noah Elliot Braybrooke... I'd love absolutely nothing more in all the world than to spend forever with you." She grinned at him, offering her left hand. This was easily the most magical of all her favorite days.
