DECISIVE Jack isn’t one to take up time agonizing over whether something is the right decision or not. He trusts his instincts and where they will take him. He can be a bit of a risk taker because he sees the big picture and the potential of where a choice could lead if handled correctly. SOCIAL Jack likes people. He is completely comfortable in large groups and will always find someone to talk to, usually with very little work. He’s easily able to make connections with people that very often develop into real relationships. He knows he has plenty of friends that he can reach out to and is always comfortable doing it. Jackson Grant Monroe was born in Boston Massachusetts to Grant and Cassidy Monroe. Grant was head of The Department of Magical Law Enforcement and Cassidy was a PreWiz teacher. Jack’s life was charmed and it showed. His father held a prominent position within the community and in his mind that left him with very little time to worry about the behavior of his son, but just enough time to provide him with, more-or-less, anything he wanted.
Before he was even school-aged he had already found he could charm his way out of almost anything. His mother tried her best to steer him away from his spoiled behavior but it never quite worked out for her. She could keep him somewhat under control during his younger years but when he received his acceptance to The Salem Institute she all but gave up, hoping school might straighten him out. It did not.
SCHOOL YEARS When he joined Lynx he made friends who caused just as much trouble as he did. He did alright in his classes but he found himself often doing…less than reputable things. What was worse, in the long run, was that he was usually able to get away with it. This behavior continued up until his fourth year.
During the summer holiday, Jack and his family attended a charity event. Cassidy and Jack decided to leave the event early. However, on their way home they were confronted by a man that Grant had sent to prison nearly a decade earlier. Without warning the man used the killing curse, aiming for Jack, but Cassidy pushed him out of the way and was killed instantly. The commotion drew a crowd from the event, made up mostly of Aurors. In the ensuing confrontation, the perpetrator was killed but Cassidy was already gone. It wasn’t long before they received the news that Grant’s sister had been killed hours earlier by the same man leaving behind a husband and young daughter.
After that, Jack completely changed. He threw himself into his studies and was determined to become an Auror he became a star pupil, only getting into trouble on very rare occasions. In the end, he graduated top of his class and started a job in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement before his post-graduation summer was up.
POST-GRADUATION He worked his way through the ranks but found himself becoming more and more despondent. He knew he was doing good and helping to keep people safe, but that meant he had to deal with all the bad too. He was good at his job but he started to realize it wasn’t making him happy the way he’d hoped. It came to a head when his partner was killed in what was supposed to be a routine raid. With barely a word he packed his bags and left with no real plans.
Eventually, he found himself in England in a rented flat. One night he made his way to Diagon Alley, looking for anything to do and ending up a little drunk and very lost. After a bit, he realized he had little choice but to ask for directions. Quite fortuitously he happened to ask the one person who was just as lost as him. Isla Evans had come to Diagon Alley for her sister’s hen party and was even drunker than him. And she happened to be a muggle. It took them over twenty minutes, but the two found their way to the Leaky Cauldron, and after another twenty minutes were found by Isla’s sister Leah.
The next morning he was awakened from a very late sleep by a knocking at his door. He opened the door to none other but Isla. Acting on some insane impulse, she asked him to attend her sister’s wedding with her the next day. On an equally insane impulse, he agreed. After that, it was his turn. Once the wedding was over, he invited Isla on a date and that pattern kept up until the two came to the conclusion that they were dating. Just over two years later, they were married.
In between that time, Jack realized he needed a job. He ended up at the Ministry of Magic in the only department he knew anything about, the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. However, this time he chose what seemed to be the lowest stake position, the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Division. He made due, but he had to admit, that when the opportunity to teach at Hogwarts was presented to him, he quickly took it.
Once Jackson had been teaching a few years he and Isla decided it was time to start a family. After a few years of trying, Jackson and Isla just found out that Isla is pregnant. Isla moved to Hogsmeade in order to be closer to Jackson during the pregnancy. In April of 2064, Isla and Jack welcomed their daughter Marigold Cassidy Monroe. The two were close growing up, at least when they weren’t planning each other's murder. They both had a bite to them that could sometimes lead them to trouble, but they both made it to adulthood so it couldn’t have been all that bad.
The two had everything they ever needed. Their home, The Chalford House, was bigger than most people’s blocks, and they had acres and acres of land. The girls attended a good school and had tutors on hand for extracurricular subjects. Their life was, by all means, incredible, but to Isla, a nine-year-old who knew nothing different, it was sort of a drag—until the day she saw a man appear out of thin air.
Isla had been sitting in the Great Room, staring out the window, watching the sheep that had wandered close to the house, and then out of nowhere there was this loud pop. It startled the poor sheep and suddenly a man was standing on the front drive. She’d leaped from the couch to tell everyone in the house what she had just seen, though at the moment no one believed her. That was until the man came to the door and informed them he was a representative from “Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.” Isla didn’t understand most of what happened next but one thing she did understand was that her sister was a witch. She could have told them that. Leah had always been the weird one.
Only a few weeks later, Leah was headed off to Hogwarts. Which happened to be a boarding school which meant Isla’s experience was about the same as it would have been anyway, except now there were owls delivering Leah’s letters.
SCHOOL YEARS Isla’s time at school was much less exciting than Leah’s. She attended an all-girls boarding school; Queen Anne’s School, not far from the family estate. She did fairly well in school, but she couldn’t be bothered to put in the same amount of effort as Leah did. Isla figured Leah could be the magic one and the good-at-school one. She did somehow manage to make prefect which she may or may not have used to her advantage, but that’s a state secret.
Only a year or two after Leah’s graduation she got engaged to Levi James. Isla had never been a fan of the guy, even though he was admittedly super hot. She could see why Leah liked him in that sense, but even in her young eyes, they seemed like kids. Isla made her feelings well known, but Leah mostly ignored her. Leah and Levi were married much to her chagrin, but at the time, Isla was far more concerned about her life.
POST-GRADUATION The next year she graduated from Queen Anne’s will little idea of what her next step was. She’d made the decision not to go to college because, frankly she didn’t see a point. She was young and had plenty of mommy and daddy’s money and little to no responsibilities. She figured she was fine as long as she stayed out of the view of the paparazzi. (She only made it into the paper once, okay).
Leah soon had a child, a little boy named Noah. Isla adored him. Then a few years later, Charlotte was born, and then Leah’s marriage ended. Isla wasn’t the least bit surprised and was honestly thrilled about it. Especially because Leah and the children moved into the house. She got to be the fun aunt and help her cousin connive to get Leah a decent man.
The moment Isla met Henry she knew full well he and Leah were going to be married, even though Leah seemed to detest him. Which was exactly how Isla knew. She didn’t know it at the time, but their relationship would lead to one of her own.
It was at Leah’s hen party when they had come to the Leaky Cauldron at Diagon Alley. Her intention was just to step outside for a moment, but she made the mistake of starting to wander. The next thing she knew, she was completely lost. She spent almost an hour lost among wizards and witches, feeling out of place as a muggle and the drinks were catching up with her.
That’s when she spotted him—a tall guy with messy hair looking equally bewildered. He approached her asking for help. For a moment, she just laughed at him. Eventually, they came to the decision to help each other. For the next twenty minutes, they wandered aimlessly together, exchanging snippets about their lives—his name was Jack, and he was a wizard who had recently moved to England. She told him about all Leah and the wedding. Eventually, they stumbled into the Leaky Cauldron where Leah eventually found them.
The next morning, she woke up with a throbbing headache and an insane desire to throw caution to the wind. She went to the room where Jack was staying and asked him to the wedding. To her surprise, he agreed. She was both shocked and delighted.
As the wedding unfolded, she realized she enjoyed his company more than she could have imagined. They fell into an easy rhythm, and before she knew it, they were a couple. That fall he proposed and in the spring in a beautiful ceremony in the estate’s garden. The two of them moved into a London suburb to make a shorter commute to the Ministry of Magic for Jack. However, Jack was soon offered a position at Hogwarts. Isla was thrilled for him, though admittedly he didn’t have to be gone. It was then she started playing with the idea of moving to Hogsmeade but the idea of moving to a village inhabited completely by wizards made her hesitate.
It wasn’t until Isla found out that she was pregnant after a few years of trying that she decided to make the move. She had the idea to start her own shop, a small market, and move to be close to him. Which is exactly what she did. In April of 2064, she gave birth to Marigold Cassidy Monroe.
