Amaltheia thought that her newest assigned clientele being a group of rowdy Kalonas was going to be the toughest challenge that she had to face today. However, that had gone by relatively smoothly, or at least as smooth as entertaining a group of young hot-blooded Kalonas could go. She had done her duty exactly has she had been taught her entire life. Theia gracefully poured fermented fruit juice to slur the group into a drunken stupor and encouraged them with playful banter to keep drinking even beyond their normal limits. She distracted and kept them occupied with high spirits with her jokes, flirting, and ethereal dances for hours. She was an entertainer by trade and she provided the group a night that they would never forget. Once they were passed out or too drunk to continue the celebration she had quietly snuck away with a few of their trinkets hidden in her long sleeves as an extra tip for herself as a job well done.

She was done with her labors and could finally go soak off in the hotspring the stench of men, fermented juices, and meat off of her body for the next day and a half, if not longer to soothe the ache of her sore muscles and stinging pricks of bite marks that some of the more brazen males had dared to try to take from her before she delivered a swift kick to their shins as a clear warning to knock it off. All she wanted was peace, quiet, and to be left alone with her own thoughts to recollect herself after such an arborous night.

Lady Luck however ever being the cruel and twisted mistress evidentially had different plans in mind for her.

The intoxicating heavy stench of ale mixed with the rotting chunks of meat and blood that wafted from her dirty dress had caught the attention of a young bear that happened to be in the same area Theia was cutting through to get back to her homestead.

Exhausted and near the point of passing out on her feet Theia’s normally on-par sense of danger and self-preservation weakened to the point that she hadn’t noticed the animal stalking her until it was far too late and it had already pounced to make its move.

It’s masterful - or more accurately described inexperienced - move to literally jump onto her rump and bite down on the source of the smell that had drawn its interest in the first place not fully realizing that instead of being rewarded for its hunt with a juicy steak it was only going to be met with a mouthful of silk and beads.

“LET GOOOOOOO!!!!!” Theia screamed out as she bucked instinctively. “BEAR WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? LEAVE ME ALONE!” She cried, her once beautifully embroidered dress beginning to rip under the weight and stress of the adolescent bear still trying to munch its way through to surely the meaty prize that lay hidden below.

Theia was normally a lone wolf who liked to solve her own problems by herself. Trusting that only she had her best interests at heart. But at this moment, even if she didn’t want to admit it she needed a hero - and fast!!

For perhaps the first time in her life, Prima Rosa didn't know where she was. She'd spent most of her life in her home mountain ranges, only venturing out after Cirro Strata had already left, and then really only to visit her friend. Her world was so small, and the rest of the world was so big - there was nothing like the rush that came from exploring it, Prima had learned.

She was in the sky, as she usually was, wings spread out on either side of her, braid trailing behind her like a kitestring. She'd been flying for hours, enjoying the twinkling of the starlight and the silence of the earth below - all creatures with sense had gone to whatever they called home and to bed hours ago, and it felt like Prima Rosa was the only person alive in the whole world.

At least, until a shriek pierced the trees below and shot into Prima Rosa's ears more sharply - more unexpectedly - than if a physical arrow had flung itself from below.

Someone needed help.

Maybe it was because she hadn't been sleeping much - the urge to keep moving had propelled her in what was perhaps not the most healthy of decision-making processes - or maybe it was because she was finally awake for the first time in her life. Whatever the reason, when Prima Rosa heard that screech, she didn't think about it, she just pulled her wings in close to her body and dove toward the sound, not paying any mind to the noise or scratches that came from crashing through the trees and foliage.

She barely had a second to process the scene before her - a bear and a mare, the mare in trouble and the bear with a meal in its sights.

Prima ducked her head and swooped toward the bear, artfully shifting so as not to hit the mare. Her horn strafed the side of the bear and it gave a mighty roar, rearing up more in surprise than an attack.

Prima felt blood drip from her horn.

That was a first.

Prima used her last bit of airtime to bank sharply, so that she landed facing the mare and the bear. "Get out of here!" Prima Rosa shouted to the mare, who had obviously been the source of the screaming. "I'll hold him off!"

Although Theia needed a hero to save her, she didn’t expect one to literally fall from the sky!

A loud roar from the bear was accompanied by a heavy oomf from Theia as she struggled to adjust to the added weight and pressure pushing into her back from the sky being who had come to her aid. Stumbling backwards, her knees gave way as she attempted to stay standing. If the bear had seen her fall, it likely would have seized the chance to go for her neck and attempt a full kill.

She was not about to let a bear be the reason for her untimely demise!

Furrowing her brow, Theia shot an annoyed glare at the mare before her. Though she might have gained an upper hand by surprising the creature from the sky, the girl was no bigger than Theia herself. Did she really think Theia would abandon everything and leave her to handle things alone out here?

Though Theia was known for her cold-hearted nature, she wouldn’t let anyone risk their life for her. This was not just out of respect for the sanctity of life; her pride also played a role. Can you imagine the humiliation? The embarrassment? The rumors? Ugh, as if.

“Thank you for your help," she replied with a soft grunt, turning her focus back to the animal still on her back, now dazed and in pain from the stab wound in its side. “But I think I can handle it from here!”

With that, Theia rose up, throwing the bewildered animal off her back. In one swift motion, her hind legs lifted and delivered a powerful kick to the bear’s temple, resulting in a sickening crunch. The bear roared again as it collapsed to the ground, tearing a large piece of Theia’s dress as it fell. Though not fully unconscious, it was clearly disoriented from the blow and suffering from an undoubtedly growing severe headache.

“My dress!” Theia cried in distress. With an exasperated huff, she marched over to the creature. Bending down, she seized the remnants of her dress in her teeth, tearing it from the beast's claws before draping it around her neck like a scarf. "Do you have no respect for craftsmanship? Do you have any idea how long this took to make? Honestly, savage animal." She scoffed, rolling her eyes in frustration before facing her savior again.

“You alright over there?"

Prima Rosa was just feeling good about herself - she'd saved the day! - when she got scolded by the very one she'd saved. Rosa scoffed in surprise, raising her eyebrows as she watched the other mare kick the bear hard in the head, and then scold the bear as she took her dress back.

"Uh," Prima Rosa said, "I think we should probably get out of here?" Rosa said, blinking in confusion at the lack of urgency the other mare was displaying. "That thing's not dead yet," she added, although admittedly it didn't look like the bear would be getting up and attacking anyone for a while, if it survived at all. Her heart was still pounding, and she tried to chase the feeling of adrenaline, but the mare's utter lack of concern was making it difficult to focus.

It kind of bothered Prima Rosa, actually. This girl had just been attacked by a bear and she was concerned about her clothes?

"But also," Rosa said, moving closer to the mare, "there are more important things than a dress. It could have ripped your throat out when you got that back, pretty though it is," Rosa said, frowning. "You should really be more careful. Not that this happening is your fault, of course, but--when you're in a bad situation, you shouldn't try to make it worse."

Prima Rosa sighed and looked the mare over - for all the yelling that had attracted her attention in the first place, it didn't look like she was seriously harmed; more put out about the dress than anything. "Do you have a home I can make sure you get back safely to?"

“Hmmm,” Theia popped her lips as she mulled over the concerned mare’s request. Although she was fairly certain that the bear would be out for some time if it did wake from its slumber early, they would most likely have lost the upper hand. After all, now the bear would have a reason for putting all of its strength into the attack. It would be prudent to take this opportunity to put as much distance between themselves and it before that happens. “Point taken. Very well, follow me. Surely you are expecting a reward of some sort for your heroic deeds today.” Theia replied nonchalantly with a flick of her tail, she began her walk once more as if the attack hadn’t happened to begin with!

“More important than this dress?” Theia scoffed, rolling her eyes in disbelief. “Honey, first of all this is not the first nor will it be the last time that I’ve been attacked. I can assure you I had the situation under control as that was a black bear. It’s basic safety knowledge that the best course when encountering a black bear is to try and make as much noise and fight back as hard as you can to intimidate the animal into fleeing. I thank you for answering my cries for distress, but they were meant to scare the animal rather than request for assistance.” Theia calmly explained. Her eyes lowered to the ground only for a moment as a small crack in her confident mask broke through for a second - only a brief second - as the thought of how death would have been a welcomed alternative to the endless life of servitude she had been burdened to endure. At least in death, she could truly be free.

Alas, the mask resumed its position back over her demeanor almost as soon as it left. “Besides, if I dared to return to my home, you have no idea the earful and nibbles all over my legs I would receive. This particular piece took my team of rodent artisan assistants nearly a fortnight to craft.” Theia gave a light-hearted smile to the mare to hopefully reassure her that although the situation hadn’t been idle by any means, it was far worse than it looked. “They are far more terrifying than any bear.”

“Ah, yes. My home…well, we will need to return to it in order for me to properly pay you for coming to my assistance. It’s about a 4 hour trek this way, are you willing to accompany me - least I run into more vicious wildlife?”
