tab Alosa hadn't had a good time in the history class. Sure, she had met Stephanie there and later met his sisters but those encounters only made her miss and worry about her brother all the more. So when they had awoken, her first reaction was to wrap her arms around him and not want to let go. She knew that they hadn't spent much time together despite the fact that they both wanted to, and this was the perfect excuse for them to do just that. So they had planned to meet up when they were both done with classes as she refused to skip them even more so in the light of what happened, she needed to know more. She almost couldn't do it, let go of his hand, but she finally did and she was okay for the rest of the day.
tab As she left her last class she sighed, looking up at the top of the hall before she huffed out softly. She knew she had some things to confess to him, as well as dealing with the way she reacted to coming back to from the hallucination. If she was clingy before, this certainly would make it worse. As she walked along the hallway to the meeting spot, she ran her hand through her hair, her fingers catching on the bow in the back of her half-do. She was beyond excited to realize that she in fact didn't ruin her or Stephanie's clothes, that everyone was still okay. But despite that it had brought up a lot of past memories, of things that only few people knew and she didn't know if Luka knew about them. Things like her previous engagement, how it ended...and even if she just mentioned it, what she did with her powers and what she's capable of. He deserved to know what kind of person she was, especially since she would need someone on her side even if with the small things. There was also the rumor she had been hearing about him being a spy for Hyouden, the thought made her shiver but it wasn't like she actually believed it. That and...that he had taken the place of her true brother, which again, she didn't believe. In the letter he had given her from her father it described him and Luka fit to a tee, so she chose not to face those rumors head on.
tab Alosa rounded the corner to the back entrance of the school, her eyes landing on the figure of her big brother. Her eyes lit up and despite all of her possible grievances she pushed them aside and ran up to him. " Luka!" she wrapped her arms around his waist and leaned against his back. She smiled wide before letting go and moving into his line of vision. " I missed you! I know it hasn't been long, but I missed you all the same." without a hint of hesitation she wrapped her arms around his one arm and smiled up at him. She was glad he was okay; she was glad everyone was, but she had a few people she was more worried about than others, and despite knowing he could hold his own he was one of them. She had mentioned to him earlier in the day that she was curious about his carvings but she knew they needed to have a serious conversation. She peeked up at him, her expression shifting more to a curious expression. " Do you know of somewhere we can go to talk? I have some..." she paused and her arms tightened as a slightly haunted look flickered through her gaze before vanishing again. "...some personal things I wanted to talk to you about." it was time to come clean, about her history. About her powers. About her worries. It was time. The moment he had been set free of the hallucination their sadist teacher had placed them in, he had sought out his sister. He had held onto her and ignored every inch of pain the show of affection had caused in him. Of course, he had also realized in that moment that she, too, could have been hurt. He had nearly wasted the entire next period of classes checking to be sure Alosa was okay, but had been promptly reminded that life had to move on. Any injuries were minor, compared to others, so he had let it go and promised he would join her to talk and compare their individual events during the class at the end of the day.
While his sibling had been astute and done the right thing, he had made it a point to skip every other class he had that day. Like hell was he going to subject himself to another round of madness. This place was ******** nuts! No, he had spent the time in the weight room. The feel of his fists slamming into a punching bag helped ease the tremors in his soul. Ones that brought back memories of his time in the war. He stayed like that until the final bell rang, signaling the end of classes for the day. After a quick shower, he got dressed and headed out to find his sister.
It didn’t take him long to find the place she’d asked to meet him, but he was surprised that he’d beat her to it. Of course, it wasn’t long before the sound of her voice filled his ears and a smile curled over his lips. Before he could turn to face her, she was hugging him and tugging a soft laugh from him. Okay, he wasn’t going to lie, it was kind of nice to have someone who was truly happy to see him. And when was the last time anyone had actually hugged him? Not since his mother, a thought that had a darkness passing over his eyes that he did his best to hide. She wasn’t ready for that side of him, nor was he ready to show her.
" I missed you! I know it hasn't been long, but I missed you all the same."
There it was. That warm feeling in his chest that spread through him and had him standing up a bit taller at her side. He had someone who cared. He missed him. Gods, he’d missed it. And he had, in fact, missed her as well. He had worried and done his damnedest to remain in the gym beating up the punching bag. It would have probably gotten him in trouble to get caught out of class, and he didn’t want her thinking him some creep that watched her every move. No, she was an adult. A grown woman who could handle herself. But hell if it didn’t tug at his heart not to be sure with his own two eyes that she was okay.
”Aw, I missed you too, sis. Classes are boring without you.” He grinned at her in response, tapping her nose teasingly as she wrapped her arms around his own. This was what big brother’s did, right? Tease and play around with their little sisters? Gods, he was hopeless. This was all new territory for them both, but at least she’d had other siblings. Ones that she’d grown up with and knew how to act around. He was a fish out of freaking water and he really didn’t want to be gasping for breath where she was concerned.
" Do you know of somewhere we can go to talk? I have some...some personal things I wanted to talk to you about."
Her request to go elsewhere was answered with a nod. There were a few places they could go and not be bothered. His favorite was the woods, but that was sure to be uncomfortable without a place for them to sit. So, he chose the pond that he’d passed on campus. He knew there were a few ducks there and he’d even seen a few fish. It would be perfect to just sit with her and talk. Or so he hoped, anyway.
”Of course. There’s a pond nearby that has a few benches and some nice grassy places. We can sit there.” With the offer, he set his free hand over one of her own on his arm and began leading the way. As he moved, something tugged at the back of her mind. What kind of personal things could she want to tell him? Was this about their sister? Or their father? Or maybe it was about that stupid rumor that he wore a wig! Gods, he hated people. Swallowing his nerves, Luka kept his smile in place and looked down at her as they walked.
”Should I brace myself for what you’re gonna want to talk about? Because, I gotta say, the unknown of it is twisting my stomach up worse than history class had. I want you to feel comfortable telling me anything, but it’s nerve wracking not knowing what I’ll hear. Does that make sense?” Gods, he was rambling now! What the hell was wrong with him?! He barely resisted the urge to run his hand through his hair in exasperation, not wanting her to think for a moment that she was the cause. Doing his best to breathe, Luka forced the feelings of inadequacy down and kept his expression curious as he watched his adorable sister.

tab Alosa was surprised that he had made it there so fast but she also had gotten caught up talking with the professor. When she was able to see him again she felt happier than she had in a while because she had felt anxiety just sitting in class. The memories of what she and Stephanie had gone through bothered her but she managed to keep her face straight when asked about it, even if it had bothered her. Complaining to the teachers would not do her any good.
tab So when she had wrapped her arms around him she took a moment to enjoy the warmth of his back. She didn’t know how comfortable he was yet so she made a point to be aware of how long she may have hung onto him. That and she could hear her mother’s voice telling her that it wasn’t very lady-like to cling like that, but this was her brother surely he didn’t care if she did? When he tapped her nose she laughed, her eyes closing for a moment before she looked up at him. ” Is that so? Well I’ll have to make up for it!” she replied to him before she asked her other question. She knew that he was probably going to be uncomfortable during the conversation, if not a little bit, but she needed to get some things out between them. Actually important things.
tab At his suggestion to be by the pond she nodded in agreement and smiled up at him. Being by the water seemed like a good idea, especially considering what she had to talk to him about. She felt her own heart tighten at the thought of some of the things that needed to be covered but the feeling of his hand over hers soothed those worries if not for a little bit. She leaned against him as she followed along, her pink eyes flicking up to his gold ones as he asked his question. This caused pause for her because while they were important things she didn’t want him to be tense at the beginning. She did owe him the entire truth though. Even as he rambled she didn’t mind, it was only a sign to her that he actually cared about her. That feeling helped her calm down a little, only further confirming that she didn’t believe the rumor she did want to clarify with him. She leaned her head against his arm as she walked, her eyes shifting forward again. ” I mean…they’re not bad things, but they’re certainly important.”
tab She remained quiet for a moment after she finished the sentence and only when the pond came in to view she smiled slightly, although this time it was a little sad. ” Mostly things that you probably don’t know…or do, I don’t know what father has told you. And…” her mind drifted back to Draco and the way that things went down that first night she met Luka. ”…a couple of other possibly sensitive things that have happened and I want you to know about them before it comes to your attention another way.” Just before they got to the pond she slid one hand out from under his but kept her right arm wrapped around his. Her eyes looking up at him as she smiled almost sheepishly. She knew it would be a lot, but if they were to be honest with one another she wanted him to know.
tab She definitely wanted him to know she did not end anyone’s life before with her powers. Alosa’s response to his admission had him grinning wide. The only other person he’d missed in his life was his mother. So, to have someone new to add to his list who felt the same? Yeah, he was thrilled. Not that he wanted to miss her. It was just nice to have someone else to care for. To have care about him. It left him feeling all sorts of things, all of which he did his best not to let show on his face as they moved.
” I mean…they’re not bad things, but they’re certainly important.”
Her answer to his question did nothing to ease his mind about what she wanted to talk about. Important was a serious topic. The fact that she wanted to talk to him about such things was sure to change the way their relationship was. Did he want things to change? Not really, but there was nothing he could do about that. They had to get to know each other better. If he was going to do what he was truly there for, he’d have to learn all he could. No matter what it did to his mental health.
”Alright. If it’s important to you, then it will be important to me. But, I hope you know, it won’t change anything. You’ll always be my sister, no matter what you’ve done before now.” It was his small way of telling her she could trust him. That he’d care about her regardless of what she was about to share. With it out in the open, Luka fell silent and continued to keep up with his cool, big brother facade.
As the pond came into view, he felt his stomach start to twist into knots. Okay, this was fine. He was going to be fine. He was not going to throw up. He was not going to panic. He would accept whatever she said and care…no, love her nonetheless. Forcing himself to breathe, Luka looked down at her and arched a brow slightly when she spoke.
”Mostly things that you probably don’t know…or do, I don’t know what father has told you. And…a couple of other possibly sensitive things that have happened and I want you to know about them before it comes to your attention another way.”
Wait, was their father supposed to have told him something? The only thing he remembered the old man saying was that she had been attacked. That he was tasked with keeping her safe and away from the sure to be many threats within Utopia. Granted, he hadn’t really been listening. He had come because he had been promised what he deserved. Once he returned his sister to the castle, he’d be given his title by birthright and all that came with it. He’d be set for life. Having her in his life, getting to be closer to someone that he could call family? That was just a bonus for him.
”Don’t stress too much on it, Alosa. Like I said, it won’t change a thing. You’re stuck with me for life now, kiddo. Through thick and thin.” He coupled his statement with a smile, his hand moving to pat her own where it rested on his arm. Gods, he really hoped he could keep his word. With that thought in the front of his mind, he moved them to the bench he had mentioned and motioned for her to take a seat. He had a feeling that standing would help him more in this moment than joining her on the bench.

tab Alosa looked up at him when he answered her and she felt her eyes threatening already to water up but she shook her head, rubbing at her eyes as she smiled. " I know...you're stuck with me now too." she said in return, shifting so she sat on the bench and set her hands on her lap as she stared out at the pond for a moment. Here it went. " I suppose the first thing is....a rumor you might hear about me. I have a second power that I don't use often, because it's perceived as dangerous and I don't like to be put in that sort of position." this was the most important thing to her, that he knew she did not take the life of anyone with her song. She turned to face him once he sat down with her, her leg hooking under her other one, her pink eyes looking up into his. " When I...when I sing, I can temporarily control another person. I've only ever done it either on accident or...in training." she rubbed the back of her head and looked down and to the side. " I know father mentioned that it could be used as an offensive weapon, but he wouldn't let me out of his sight long enough for a while." she let her hand drop and she chewed her lip. " This...leads into the more important part." she looked up at him again, taking his hand in both of hers. She marveled for a moment at how much larger his hands were than her own, but she needed to focus. " I've never taken a life with it. I've heard that going around and it's wrong. I have only used it ever for my own defense." she really hoped he believed her, but she had a feeling that he would.
tab She tightened her grip on his hand briefly as she lowered them to her knee. That led into the more sensitive topics, the ones that would be awkward on top of it all. " I need you to try and do something for me...please just, hear me out until the end? I know how what I say next will sound and I don't want to lose you because of..." she trailed off before she closed her eyes and she knew her hands began to shake slightly. " I don't want to lose you." she knew it was silly, she didn't know him deep down, hadn't known him for years but...she still didn't want to lose him.
tab After she took a deep breath in and calmed her hands she began to move her thumb over the top of his hand, silently looking his hands over before she spoke again. " I used to be engaged to the prince of Hyouden. We...barely got to know each other when an attempt was made on my life. He left...and next thing I know it's called off and we're on bad terms." she frowned, her chest still hurt from the feeling she got when she thought of Ivan. How happy she had been with him, their kiss in the courtyard all those years ago. All of it had faded when she met him again, and he was an entirely different person. This is where it got awkward. " I met him again, here...and in a turn I didn't see coming I...got far too much alcohol in my system and we ended up sleeping together." she paused, waiting for a reaction before she continued to speak. She knew this was a tough topic, neither of them were comfortable quite yet with the facts that they were both adults with needs.
tab She wanted to finish the thought before letting him process what she'd said, so she lifted her head up to look at him again. " I...don't remember much. The servant who came with me said she found me, alone. But I woke up with a headache so bad that I knew I had used my powers at some point in the night." her words hung over the silent space as she bit the inside of her lip to keep herself from saying more. The fact that her powers had been activated meant something bad had gone down, and she knew after a moment he would be able to put that together. The expression on his sister’s face tugged at his heartstrings. Damn it, he was not going to start crying like some blubbering baby! Sniffling a bit, Luka did his best to keep himself under control. He was the strong older brother. He was the shoulder she could cry on. He could totally do this. He took a deep breath and listened when she began sharing her secrets with him. Or, rather, sharing a part of her that she felt he needed to see in order for them to grow closer.
Her first admission didn’t seem all that bad. To him, anyway. To her, well, it seemed like she was….scared? Though if it was of his response or her powers, he wasn’t sure. Giving in, Luka sat beside her on the bench and turned to face her completely. He watched her closely as she spoke, getting his answer within minutes of her confession. It was both. Cursing their idiot of a father, he smiled softly and turned his hand in hers to give one of them a quick squeeze. He opened his mouth to respond, only to have her request cut him off. Confusion lit up his amber gaze as his brows narrowed a bit, not sure if he was going to be able to do what she wanted. Of course, he nodded all the same and kept his lips sealed.
”I don’t want to lose you either, Alosa…I hope you know that.’ He thought the words in his head as he waited for her to continue, wishing she wasn’t so worried about such a thing. Luka hadn’t been lying when he said she was stuck with him. There was nothing she could do or say to get rid of him. He had a family again. A sister that cared for him. Like hell was he going to go back to being alone in the world. He made a mental note to tell her exactly that as she started speaking again, tucking it away for later when it was his turn to talk.
The mention of her engagement wasn’t a surprise to him. He had heard about it before they’d met. Back then, he had worried about what kind of man she’d been with. The faceless sister he had hidden behind the castle walls. Had he been kind? Had he promised to treat her well before ending their engagement? Just thinking about it set his blood burning, the urge to track the b*****d down racing through him. As if she had known what he was thinking, she mentioned having reunited with him at the academy. The Fates must love him! Luka was tempted to ask what the asshat looked like, only to have all the blood drain from his face at her comment on sleeping with him.
”Whoa, hang on…” He held up his free hand, closing his eyes as he tried to make sense of all that she’d told him. She had been engaged to someone that had left her after she was nearly killed?! Then she met him again, got drunk, and slept with him?! It was almost too much for his brain to compute. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he did his best to breathe deeply and take it all in. He was not going to get upset. He was not going to get upset. He was not…Ah, ******** it.
”Alosa, please tell me that you remember giving him your consent. That you actively agreed to being with him while still being of sound mind. Because, if you can’t…” His voice shook with rage he was doing his best to keep a lid on. If the ******** had taken advantage of his sister, he was a dead man. He would skin the b*****d and turn him into the next school flag! Seeing red, he forced himself to breathe. To attempt at being calm again. The last thing he wanted was to scare her.
”None of this changes my view of you, I hope you know that. Changes my view of my intel, but definitely not of you.” He finally lowered his hand and reopened his eyes, covering the ones still holding its mate. They needed a new subject. One that could, possibly, lighten the mood. He racked his brain for a moment before landing on one, a slight smile playing at the corners of his lips.
”Did you know there is a rumor going around that my hair is really a wig? A guy in the gym pulled it the other day while I was working out.”

tab Alosa couldn’t tell what he was thinking. All she knew was she was appreciative that he let her talk and get the words out before she lost her cool. His hand squeezing her own made her feel better, and although he began to look like he was going to speak she kept going. This was the worst of it, after all. She knew when it actually got to him, his expression shifting and he looked worried almost immediately.
tab ”Woah, hang on…”
tab Alosa tensed slightly at his words, and his tone. She locked her eyes onto his expression, her own twisting into worry. She chew her lip and her own free hand tightened on her skirt as she couldn’t bring herself to look away. What if this pushed him away? What if he didn’t want to be around her as much? The thought of losing him when she had just gotten him made her chest tighten and her heart race. She didn’t want to lose her brother, even if she was still getting to know him, he was her brother!
tab Her expression faltered, her eyes widening at his question. Wait, that was his concern? She blinked before she looked down at her lap. ” I…um, well kind of?” she answered quietly, almost like she was scared of admitting it to herself. ”I showed up with Ophelia…he and Oliver were there, and we started to play a drinking game. The alcohol was strong and I’d never--“ her voice broke before she could finish the thought. She’d never drank before, didn’t know what to expect. She timidly, much unlike herself, looked up and met his gold eyes. ”I remember asking for it but I was definitely not…what’s the word? Sober…” she had a bad feeling about telling him that but she wanted to be honest, she’d expect him to be honest with her if she asked.
tab When he told her that none of what she’d said already changed how he felt, she widened her eyes and she couldn’t help them from watering up. She felt her breath begin to hitch, but before she allowed herself to completely break down and cry Luka changed the subject. She blinked a couple of times, processing his words before she felt the tears that had formed roll down her cheeks and she couldn’t help but laugh. It was quiet at first but she wiped the tears away as she finally smiled again. ” Wait really? That must have hurt! I can’t imagine anyone thinking your hair was fake, that’s kind of funny.” she felt some of the tension that had formed fall away, her eyes softening as she shook her head.
tab The statement did make her think of something else, her eyes shifting down to his hand over hers. ” Speaking of rumors…I did hear another one about you. I don’t believe it, not for a second but I just need to ask—“ she shifted her hand in his, her other hand raising up to cover his with both of her own. ” You’re actually my brother, right? Not a spy… or a cover… you’re… you. Right?” despite truly believing that he wouldn’t do that to her, she needed to hear it. With so much going on, having someone she could rely on was a must. Especially with her being the heir to the throne. Rage, blinding and red, took over his vision and had him pushing himself to his feet. He gently freed his hands from hers and began to pace around the area between the bench and the pond. Okay, okay, just calm down. She had consented, in a way. But she hadn’t been in her right mind. That meant the ******** had crossed a line. He was going to become a munich and that was that. His hands itched for the sword at his back and his mind screamed at him to find the ********. It wasn’t until her words reached through the scarlet haze that he looked at her again, shock replacing the anger immediately.
”Alosa, you’re crying…” Dropping to his knees, he took her hands in his and forced himself to focus on her. Her laughter confused him a bit, but it didn’t stop the panic from racing through his body. She seemed not to care about them, wiping them away easily before responding to his statement. A smile tugged at his own lips as he lifted a hand, wiping a few tears she’d missed from her cheeks.
”Yeah. Not sure why people want to go after my hair, of all things. My eyes, I totally get. But, it’s whatever. I made some friends because of it, so I’ll take it as a win.” He shrugged it off as he studied her features, wanting to be sure she wasn’t going to start crying on him again. It made him feel like he’d been punched in the gut and had him wanting to throw up all over the place. He’d do anything to keep the smile on her face rather than the tears on her cheeks.
The change in topic had him lifting a snowy brow in question, wondering what other rumors there were about him in the stupid school. Her repeat of the one she’d heard from Hasan in the gym had him sighing softly. What in the hell was wrong with people? Shaking his head, Luka gave her hands a reassuring squeeze and tried to think of the best way to answer. She had been rather forthcoming with him, it was only fair to do the same with her. Or so he told himself as he took a deep breath.
”I’m not a spy, nor am I a paid actor for the real prince. My mother was from Hyouden, which is why I look the way I do. And why my powers are the way they are.” As he spoke, he wiggled his fingers a bit and froze the top of the pond behind him. It was only for a moment, less than an inch, then he returned it to the still water it had been before. ”My mother used to tell me that I have our father’s smile, the same unamused look when I get upset, but I never saw it. Granted, I only ever saw him on the posters around the slums, but still.” He waved a hand at his ramblings, realizing that he wasn’t giving her anything useful. Just the silly things his mother had told him about the man that had helped create him.
”I swear on everything, on her, that I’m your brother. That I’m not here to hurt you or play some stupid part. I’m here to keep you safe, to get to know you, and to be the brother you should have had from the start. Of course, that’s only if you want me to. If you ever feel I’m crossing a line, please don’t hesitate to shove me back across it. I’m…not well versed in being a sibling.” He smiled up at her sheepishly, an embarrassed blush tinting his cheeks for a moment. Gods, he had been doing so well! Hoping she didn’t laugh at him, Luka patted her hands affectionately and did his best to keep himself from panicking for a new reason.
”Is there anything else you want to know? Name it, and I’ll tell you.”

tab Alosa wasn't expecting him to get up and pace but she did understand. The situation wasn't ideal and she certainly wasn't sure how he was going to react to her brief recollection of the night. It was not only so long ago, but it was hazy. When he knelt in front of her she was laughing, the image of someone pulling on his hair able to pull her out of the extremely happy tears that were about to start. She relaxed her shoulders as she rested her hands on her lap, she shook her head as he mentioned his eyes which brought her eyes to flick to his. She hadn't really looked at his eyes but after a moment a quiet laugh left her again. " Your eyes do kind of look a little fake, but I suppose it's easier to pull someone's hair then poke them in the eyes." she tried to keep the air light, but even as her mind went to the other rumor she knew she had to ask.
tab When his expression changed she held her breath, although his hands giving hers a reassuring squeeze made her visibly relax before she listened to his words. So he looked like his mother, she was from Hyouden which made sense as to why the rumors had picked up on that. She blinked softly at his mention of powers, and she leaned to the side to watch the water freeze over before it disappeared. Her eyes lit up visibly, before she looked back to him. At his ramblings she squeezed his hand that was holding her own, it was so sweet. He cared about the little things his mother said and it didn't miss her that he spoke in past tense, which made her think that she was no longer with them. She finally allowed herself to breathe as he finished saying that he was her brother in no uncertain terms.
tab It was only about thirty seconds before her brain fully registered that he had told her everything, seemingly. He didn't seem like he was lying and deep inside she didn't want to doubt him, so... she decided not to. Her eyes lit up once more before she without warning leaned in and wrapped her arms around his neck again, giving him a tight hug. She closed her eyes and leaned her head on his shoulder, just taking in the fact that she had a brother. She had a brother who trusted her. She could see how uncomfortable he had become when she cried, so she tried really hard not to. She had a wide smile on her face as she loosened her grip and leaned back. " I'm so happy...I know it's silly, but I just needed to hear it. I trust you, and that was so cool, I didn't know you could do that with ice! Can I ask you to do it again?" she had a look of pure curiosity on her face at this point, any doubts having left her mind and she had relaxed again around him. The sound of her laughter loosened the knot in his chest her crying had caused. Damn it, he was going to be that big brother that gave his little sister everything she wanted, wasn’t he? Luka took a moment to process that thought before simply shrugging it off. He was okay with being that kind of brother. Alosa deserved to have a sibling that would treat her the way she deserved to be treated. To adore her and give her whatever she needed to remain happy and content in her life. Just thinking about it had a warmth spreading through his chest, one he wrapped himself in as her comment danced through his head to pull his laughter from his lips.
”Oh gods, I didn’t even think of that! If Hasan had poked me in the eyes, I doubt things would have turned out as they did.” He shook his head at the images his mind created, knowing he wouldn’t have taken it as well had the other man jabbed a finger into his retina. As silence began to stretch between them, Luka studied her features and watched the emotions play over them. She was handling the information he’d given her rather well. Even his little power play didn’t do much to phase her. Impressed, he did his best not to fidget where he knelt before her and chewed on the inside of his cheek as he waited.
Her sudden attack nearly ended up with him on his back in the grass and her on top of him. Quick reflexes were the only thing that saved him, allowing him to shift his weight as hers crashed into him to keep him up on the balls of his feet. His arms wrapped around her in return and he hugged her close. A weight shifted off his heart at her acceptance of his words as the truth they were. He hadn’t even realized how much he cared about what she thought until that moment. Breathing easier, Luka smiled brightly at the expression on her face and shook his head at her words.
”Nah, it’s okay, I get it. You’ve known one thing your whole life, then I show up and spin it all on its head. I’d be worried if you hadn’t questioned me, to be honest.” Grinning now, he did his best to keep from hugging her again at her admission of trusting him and focused on the rest. She had been impressed by his powers? Not at all bothered by showing her, he shifted to stand and gently tugged her back up onto her feet at his side. He kept one hand in hers and pulled her along with him, stopping just at the edge of the pond.
”It’s really not that hard. My powers let me change the state the water is in. So, I can turn it to ice,” He paused, lifting his free hand to curl his fingers and turn his wrist sharply to the right. The entire pond froze over within seconds, solidifying as if it were winter and the temperature wasn’t the cool autumn air they were truly in. ”Or I can turn it the other way. From a solid, to a liquid, to a gas.” As he spoke, he shifted his hand and turned his wrist to the left. The ice melted, returning to its previous state almost immediately. Another twist and the water began to evaporate into the air, turning into a cloud that threatened to rise back to the heavens. Not wanting to have to explain himself to the groundskeeper, again, he turned his hand to the right and returned the pond to its natural state.
”I have other tricks, but they aren’t the prettiest of things. This is the easiest one for me to explain to you. Is there anything else you want to know?” He was an open book for her, and he hoped she took advantage of it and asked whatever she wished.

tab Alosa felt the weight on her own chest lighten as he seemed to understand why she had to ask. She was beyond happy that she'd confirmed everything for herself and had no more reservations. That and he seemed genuinely upset by her admission about what happened that she couldn't remember. She hadn't thought about it that way before, but she supposed that's the sibling bond that she knew felt similar to her and Calypso but...she hadn't ever experienced it with a brother. They each had their own things, and she was learning where boundaries were but she was glad he seemed okay with hugs at least.
tab As he took her hand and pulled her to stand she happily walked beside him, leaning onto his arm as she at first watched his hand but then her eyes moved to the pond. As she watched the water freeze over in a second before he was able to shift it back her hand tightened around his and she gasped in excitement. She hadn't realized he was able to do that! Even when he mentioned being able to turn it into a gas she began to think hard as to what he meant just before he did it. She reached her free hand out as she stared at it in awe, her hand felt cold in the cloud that hovered above where the water once was. When it turned back to the liquid and filled in the pond again she laughed, drying her hand on her skirt. She looked up at him and as he asked if there was anything else she wanted to know her expression twisted slightly as she thought hard. Was there anything else major? She couldn't think of anything, but she knew she was curious about his hobbies and other things he liked to do, and she would ask but first she wanted to show him something.
tab " Oh! I do have questions but I want to show you something too!" she realized that she really hadn't told him about the power she took full advantage of. She tugged on his hand softly to pull him down so she could crouch. She reached her hand into the water, and after a moment she lifted it out and there was a collection of water right above her hand. " I can tell you exactly where it came from. The memories stored in the water, although it depends on exactly what kind of water it is." she closed her eyes keeping her right hand secured in his holding on like he was a lifeline in what was becoming a crazy stay at the school. She focused on the water that floated just above her hand before it suddenly dropped again, coating her hand in it and she opened her eyes. " For example, that particular sample had come from.... both Hyouden and Chronos recently. It doesn't tell me too much but father was able to have me help with verifying where his imports came from. Could pull the moisture out of the wood and confirm if they were truthful or not." admittedly she had lied a time or two, not wanting people to get in trouble but for the most part she used her powers for the fun it. She smiled happily at him before she stood again, but didn't pull on his hand to make him if he chose not to.
tab Her pink eyes swept over the pond and a small, although slightly sad, smile formed on her face. " Calypso would have liked you, you know that? She always tried to protect me, and even after what happened I... sometimes still felt her around. It was hard to explain, I'm sure someone from Siscia could probably could but..." her expression hardened slightly before she looked over at Luka again. Her expression a mixture of sadness and relief. " I think maybe she wanted to make sure you found me, so I had a support system again. Actually, the night you first came up to me, I had lost my bearings because I saw her. I can't explain it, but it was her..." her voice faltered for a moment before she leaned her head down slightly and looked at her feet. "...her body. Had to be her. Nobody else has the same tattoo she did." she didn't know why her sister's body would be here, but she wasn't too keen on finding out why, especially as even though it wasn't where they'd left her all those years ago she had found her brother that night.
tab She raised her head back up and leaned into him again, her expression lighting up again as she pulled herself back from the threatening emotions. " I did have more questions though! What do you do for fun? What are these other tricks that you know?" she really really wanted to ask about his mother, but she also wanted to keep the conversation light for a while, considering where she'd just dragged it. Seeing her so fascinated by what he could do had him grinning like a fool. Okay, that was a nice feeling. Knowing that he was impressive in the eyes of his little sister. Like she was proud of him in some weird way. The thought had heat flushing over his ears, tinting them a soft shade of pink that he was grateful most of his hair hid. It was one thing to show off his abilities, it was another to show that he was a big softie. Granted, he was sure he’d done that already, but he didn’t want to make it worse. He was supposed to be strong and solid, a protector she could lean on. And he was determined to keep it that way.
At her sudden exclamation, he followed as she tugged on him and knelt beside the pond at her side. His eyes widened in amazement at the show of her own powers. She could really tell where the water had come from?! That was fascinating! As she continued, though, Luka felt the rage that he did his best to keep locked up tight begin to stir. Their father had used her for her powers. Had it been a request or an order? Had he forced her to do something she didn’t? Gods, he wanted to ask. To make sure that she hadn’t been mistreated by the man that had forsaken him and his mother. But, he just couldn’t. She didn’t seem bothered by the memory of it, so he left it alone and stood as she did.
”I had no idea that water could say so much. I thought it was just something you drank or swam in.” He admitted the words with a soft chuckle, keeping his hand linked with hers. Luka made sure his touch was light, just in case she wanted to move, and turned his head a bit to look over the pond’s surface once more. ”The memories you say you can see, is it like a slideshow in your head or a whisper? Like the water is telling you directly. Has it ever been odd?” He winced a bit when he realized he was rambling just a little. His curiosity was getting the better of him and it was starting to show. No, he had to dial it back. He was here to satisfy her curiosity, not his own.
The sound of their deceased sister’s name on her lips had his eyes snapping back to her features. He knew that was a sore topic for her. Especially after what they had seen the night of the attack. His hold on her hand tightened a bit, letting her know he was there. No matter what, she would never feel like that again. He’d kill everyone in the academy if he had to. Granted, he really didn’t want to, but that was the kind of feeling he had when her expression came back into view. It broke something in him, making him vow right then and there to ensure it never happened again.
”That’s a beautiful sentiment, Alosa, and I take it as a compliment that you’d think she’d like me. If you ever want to talk about her, about the person she’d been to you, I don’t mind listening. She is a part of you, and always will be.” He knew what it was like to lose someone you loved. It helped to share them, the person they were to you. At least, it had for him. Talking about his mother to people he had trusted had helped work him through his grief. And for Alosa, he didn’t mind being that person. He didn’t bother touching on her mention of the zombie Calypso they’d seen. Luka remembered how she’d been, what could have happened because of it. Instead, he gave her hand another squeeze and chuckled softly at her questions.
”Okay, let’s see if I can give you the answers you are looking for.” As he spoke, he tugged lightly on her hand to lead them back to the bench. He settled back in his seat and waited for her to join him before he reached into his pocket and pulled out one of the carvings he’d brought with him. It was one of the little sparrows that could be found all over the school, its wings outstretched as if preparing to take off from his hand. Luka offered it up to her, heat filling his face a bit at sharing something he hadn’t shared with anyone else.
”I like to make things like this. Little creatures out of wood. It helps me clear my mind and find my center again. I’m not the best at it, but it’s definitely better than it was when I first started.” He waited for her to take it before setting his free hand on his thigh, his features turning a bit anxious as he contemplated her next question. This was one thing he couldn’t show her outright. Not because he was worried about what she’d think of him. Luke really just didn’t want to scare her.
”As for my other trick, it’s something I can do with my…blood.” He took a moment to study her face as he said the word. His eyes watched her every expression, praying to the gods that she didn’t get disgusted by him. ”I can use it as a weapon. Or, rather, I can turn it into a weapon that I can use to keep me safe. It does drain my natural abilities to heal, but it’s saved my butt more times than I can count. Please don’t ask me to show you, though. It’s not pretty.”

tab Alosa couldn't help the laugh that left her lips as he admitted what he thought of water. She knew that she was often a little more indepth with the meaning behind things surrounding water but that was to be expected. She was the princess of a kingdom based off water, it was only natural that she would be comfortable with it. She smiled softly as he asked a little more about her own powers. She looked back to the pond and breathed out, almost happily. " Honestly? Its more of a feeling. But often times if the water has a particular memory attached to it I'll be able to see said memory. Otherwise I'll be able to feel the, say, sadness or happiness..." she turned her head back to look at him and laughed briefly, placing her hand next to her mouth. " Why do you look like you're trying to keep from asking questions? I'm happy to share...I've never had anyone to share with that didn't already know about it." she gave his hand a squeeze before she leaned over onto his shoulder softly and closed her eyes as he replied to her words about her sister. She smiled sadly against him for a moment but allowed it to pass. She raised her head again and nodded, appreciating the sentiment behind his words, but she wasn't able to reply with words. She didn't feel like they were needed, she felt more comfortable around him than she did her own parents which said quite a lot.
tab When he gently tugged her back to the bench she followed willingly before she sat down next to him. She tilted her head slightly before her pink eyes lit up and an excited gasp left her lips. She registered that he looked almost...embarrassed, but she wasn't able to think much of it as her attention was on the little carving. She held it between her fingers as she looked it over, her legs curling under the bench and hooking her ankles as she admired it. " It's so good..! You even got the little feather notches." she spoke softly but she was an odd mixture of proud and happy. She was proud that her brother could do that. Sure he might not have been a fully sibling but she was happy nonetheless. She let her hand rest in her lap as she looked back up to him and as he seemed to shift towards uncomfortable she made a soft sound in question, before she waited patiently for him to explain. Sure, it sounded odd, but his powers were a part of him, and so long as he didn't use them to kill other people...that's what mattered. She leaned into him, squeezing his hand and shaking her head soflty. " Of course not, I wouldn't ask anything of you that made you uncomfortable." she said, before she found her eyes moving back to the sparrow she held in her hand. She held it up and grinned, before pink eyes flashed up to his. " You're so good at this! What else have you made?" she intentionally moved back to the topic that he was clearly more comfortable with. She didn't want him to be uncomfortable as much as she didn't want to be. She looked back to the carving and her expression softened into a gentle, admiring look as she turned it and looked it over. Her brother did that! That was so cool... Luka listened intently to every word she said. He logged every word, every expression, every little nuance of her to his memory. This way, no matter what happened when they finally left Utopia, he’d have this. Right here. Her smiling, laughing, enjoying his company as they talked about the simplest of things. Just being together and getting to know all there was to know about the other. If he could keep this moment with him forever, then he knew he could handle whatever life was bound to throw at them next.
When she turned the tides on him and caught him, he grinned sheepishly. Well, so much for his poker face. Yes, there were quite a few things he wanted to ask her. But they weren’t there yet. One day soon, there would be nothing he would worry over asking. Nothing he would keep from her. For now, though, he simply squeezed her hand and shrugged a bit in response.
”I don’t want you to feel like I’m badgering you. Or start rambling. It’s a very bad habit of mine.” His confession had the tips of his ears turning pink, something he did his best to ignore. Instead, he focused on her silence. He had touched a nerve. Granted, Luka had already known how close the sister’s had been, but he said nothing more on the subject. If she didn’t want to continue, then it was alright by him.
The reaction his creation caused in her, however, he was more than happy to discuss. It had that warmth returning to his chest. Even more so at the sincerity he could hear in her voice. She was actually complimenting him. It had him grinning like a damn fool once more, his free hand reaching out to trail along the wings. The small creature had been the only thing Luka could think of to make for her. Without the knowledge of her favorite creature, he’d been rather limited. Knowing she enjoyed it all the same, well, that was just a bonus in his book.
”The wings were definitely the hardest. I had to sit in the main courtyard for like six hours just throwing out bird seed to get them right. I made a few new friends, though. Worth it, in my opinion.” His decision to feed the birdies had earned him more than a few odd looks, but he kept that to himself. Luka was more than certain the rumor mill was already conjuring up his reasons for being there. Not that he cared, of course. The only person whose opinion mattered to him was sitting at his side, and she loved the creature. So, he would ignore them all and focus on his sister’s joy instead.
The rest of her words had a weight shifting off his chest and his body breathing easier. She wasn’t bothered by his powers. Well, at least not the part of it that he had confessed. He hadn’t told her what he had done with them exactly. Or the list of people whose lives he’d cut short. No, they definitely weren’t ready for that little reveal. For now, Luka tucked the shameful secret back into its box and focused back on her joy at his creation.
”Thanks, Lo. I appreciate that, and you.” He gave her hand another squeeze then turned to look at the bird, tapping the fingers of his free hand against his scruffy chin. ”Hmm, I don’t think there is anything I haven’t made. I can make you pretty much anything. I like to carve animals the most, though. I have quite the menagerie in my room. I leave them all over the place, just to irritate the crotchety groundskeeper that keeps snitching on me for sleeping in the woods.” The mention of Marco had him grinning wickedly, loving nothing more than bothering the elder man as much as he could. Of course, Luka kept that to himself and looked from the bird back to her.
”Is there an animal you’d like to have? I can make it for you, if you’d like.” He’d never offered anyone else something he’d made, other than his mother. The nerves at her turning him down had his stomach tightening into knots, a sensation he immediately disapproved of and tried to keep off of his face as he watched her.
