follows the day after a little help please

Sitting and staring at the dusty old book in front of him, Lorcan couldn’t help but wonder about things. There were so many solidly scientific and factual things in this world yet his cousin had shown up and shook all these impossible things and stories in his face while bringing along solid evidence and proof. Things that went bump in the night, space aliens, witches, monsters, and all manner of things that had no place being brought up in this day and age. And yet…. There had been proof and they had done something to him that he felt in the very fabric of his being. It had felt equally wrong and right but the feeling had still been uncomfortable, to say the least.

Looking at the positive side of it all was easier though because it meant he had some answers for those lingering questions and annoyances he’d had surrounded the cousin he’d grown up close to and watched drift slowly away. It vexed him and had him shaking his head at how stupid they were still at times when it came to people, not that he was the best at managing and dealing with people outside of a professional setting. Rules and procedures were clear and orderly which helped him thrive and with what they said about the Negaverse, he could see himself doing well at it. But now, he looked down at the book he’d run to grab from his family’s library. A dusty old thing that he was sure would fall to pieces if he didn’t follow the rules and methods required to handle something so old. He’d always thought the tales of witches and hunters nothing more than stories or injustices of misunderstood people, something that the rest of the Evans family separated themselves from even if the Cosgroves hadn’t. At least not completely when it came down to things. The tales just changed to normal villains or things that were still possible to get harmed by. From a witch to someone who was unwell or in a bad spot. Time and society changed what was viewed as the villain but now, as he sat looking at the pages of long-forgotten history he could only think of the possibility that it had been true but that they were senshi and not witches in the other sense.

Magic was magic and did exist though not in the same form probably. Teleporting or the summoning of weapons for Alexandre and other officers, but then aliens… the senshi who wove magic and spells that had as many possibilities and effects as stars in the sky. Three different types of senshi though only one that was specifically a problem for him and his cousin. Being honest with himself the entire idea of magic didn’t sit well with him. It made him think twice about the stability and thought that went into medicine and all the work he and other doctors did. If magic could heal, in the form of eating a crystal then what did that leave for doctors? Senshi who might have magic that heals could hide away after being injured to avoid discovery. It meant that there were an infinite number of possibilities and places for them to hide and he didn’t like that one bit. The uncertainty and almost randomness of it clashed against the rigid and grounded rules he held himself to.

Sighing he kept reading and just wondered over it all, it felt right in a way that he’d be doing this to help his cousin and his family but he still didn’t like it. Anything he could do to fight these senshi or aliens would have to run with his schedule but he’d make it work. It would just take a bit of shuffling and some more time speaking with his cousin. It wasn’t something he would mind though because there were years of catching up to do and he was rather curious about it all. All those times they shied away and avoided the normal medical checkups and visits he provided for family had been suspicious in a way but he’d assumed it was because of normal trouble with relationships or work. At least now there were things to figure out and context that would help him connect the dots to things that had bothered him over the years.

The chess game they had after he’d been formally brought into this all had been a sad one though, his cousin was terrible at it but it had started a conversation about all the things he needed to know as well. From talks of draining and how focus and precision were required to the different factions and sides of chaos and how they played into things. The fact his cousin had met one of the royals from the faction of neutral chaos senshi had both been a surprise yet not. It seemed fitting that his cousin would find their way into the higher standings of things given their family but the fact it came out on this other side seemed fitting. There wasn’t that same tie to a name or family backing them up yet they were managing to do things just the same. It was… also just as annoying as the tales they told of how they’d gotten scars and thrown themselves headfirst into one stupid and risky situation after another. By the end of the night and match, when his cousin had left he was certain that there was a mark on his face from where he’d been pressing his hand into his forehead.

It was just the start though, with him patching up his cousin and getting a new path to follow. Closing the book from his family’s library he shook his head and leaned back in his chair. This was one hell of a mess to clean up and he was certain he’d go grey in time over this. At least it would be interesting and if he managed it all well then it wouldn’t mess with his work either. All in all, he felt as fine as he could about this railroaded path he was on as that book on his table seemed to sneer and poke fun at his rigid faith in science.
