The forests of Urania. They were vast and deep. You could be mistaken for believing that they covered all the surface. If you looked out from where you stand, you cannot see past them. Even if you got as high as you could, you would not see anything but the trees. And if you could get as low as you could, you would only see roots. But, at the center of the world, there was a large area of mostly stone. It was on the outskirts of this area that you now stood, on ground of a fine and dark dirt. It is as if you stand on the last bit of ground before the untamed wilderness. This area leads to the Travelers Ward. ——— “Welcome to Urania. This sphere here… well, it used to light up this section of the forest! Which section is this? Oh, yes. This is the Travelers Ward. Oh! I should explain why it’s called that. The constellation Sagittarius had that title on my world. But it also represented a clan, the Travelers clan, represented by the Horse. There was also three tribes under them, Centaurus, the Man Horse; Equuleus, the Horned Horse; and Pegasus, the Winged Horse.
See! They are right here on the sphere…
Oh, perhaps I should explain why I’m explaining all this.”The senshi touches the sphere’s stars in a certain order. Nothing happens for a moment. And then you see the stars shift and move before forming the words: Are you ready?“You see, on my world, before I was allowed to leave and explore beyond Urania, I had to complete a challenge from each clan. Which I did! But, um, this thing doesn’t seem to remember that. It won’t let me turn on the light until I do it all over again! I mean… the two things — lighting the way and the challenge aren’t even connected! It must be broken…”She looked sad and her wisp appeared and tried to comfort her by doing all it could which was spin around her head. Then she looked to you. “And I was much stronger than… you see. I’m not at the same stage as I was then. So, if this does what I think it does, I’m going to need some help.”Are you ready? Are you ready? Are you ready? The stars keep reforming and asking the same thing over and over, like it’s broken or something and stuck on repeat. The wisp circles the sphere excitedly as if also asking… Are you ready?Amasis Feel free to ask Urania any questions you may have. She may be able to provide more information. Or, if you want to start the challenge, place your hand on the sphere and get ready player one! ❂

Emain Ablach didn’t mind the forests or their depth. It was homey, somehow. Even the dirt felt soothing under his feet. It was a distant reminder that he had yet to visit his wonder, but he wasn’t concerned about that now. A call for help had been sent out, and he’d answered it. If he could help other people, maybe it would start making up for what he’d done. He listened attentively to her talk about the three tribes, the constellation Sagittarius, and the sphere in front of her. When the starts began to shift and moved, he’d jumped a little. Though, really, he wasn’t sure why he was surprised. Seeing a message displayed seemed kind of tame for things at this point. Was he ready? As ready as he was going to be, he guessed. At the sadness in her voice, he offered a murmur of sympathy. “I’ll help any way that I can.” He looked back toward the sphere. “But what do you think it does?” Had he missed that part? “And what do you need me to do?” Even still, he rested his hand lightly on the sphere.

“The main purpose of these spheres was — is — to light the pathways in the forest. The challenge was something only done once by the senshi of Urania when they came of age. It shouldn't be asking me to do that part again.”She frowned disapprovingly at the sphere as if it was trying to spite her. “I’m going to need your help completing the challenges. Oh… I think it’s starting.”The sphere responded to Emain Ablach’s touch. The stars rearranged themselves into the constellation Centaurus. Then a beam of light emitted from the constellation. A hologram of a centaur appeared a few yards away. Its body was translucent, with points of star-like light appearing floating to make out its form. It held a bow a with an arrow that appeared like the stars on a map that you would connect to make the shape of the constellation. “Oh! I remember this test… you, er… might want to move.”The centaur shot a very real arrow at Emain Ablach and was about to load another. ❂

Emain Ablach was nodding along with her right up until the point where he noticed the ephemeral man-horse taking aim at him. He was perfectly willing to help her with the challenges, but the first step seemed to be not getting shot in the a**. With a shout, Emain Ablach threw himself to the side. He did have a shield, he remembered belatedly, rolling to his knees and bringing it up between him and the hologram. With a glance spared her way, he hurriedly shifted so that he could put himself and the shield between the centaur and her. “I don’t suppose ‘I come in peace’ works very well?” He didn’t want to take his eyes off of the centaur, but he was going to need some clarification, here. Was this like a video game? Was he supposed to rebound the arrows back at the centaur? He didn’t have a bow to fire them back with. He spared a look back where that very much corporeal arrow had ended up. He could wiggle it threateningly, he guessed?

“No. Unfortunately, that’s not how this test works.”Urania ran from the arrows and did a rather ungraceful dive into the dirt. Good thing senshi uniforms didn’t need to be washed because she was covered in it. White bodice, gloves and stockings — all filthy — as she crawled her way to the knight. “This one didn’t introduce the task for some reason. Usually, it tells you what to do or, at least, gives a hint. It must be broken.”She tried to make her already short form smaller as she crouched behind Emain Ablach. “I have to reach the centaur and jump on its back. That’s how to complete the test. But before I had to dodge the arrows. I didn’t have a shield.”She plotted. “The centaur won’t move. He’ll keep shooting arrows. So, if we move slowly and stay behind your shield, we should be able to make it.”❂

Emain Ablach shot her a wry grin over his shoulder. “Yeah, I think we can manage that.” Looking over his shoulder didn’t last long before he had to duck his head behind his raised shield again. At least she was unhurt so far. Keeping her that way was the plan. He wasn’t the tallest man around, but luckily she was small. “If anything, it’ll be a lot less stressful to use the shield than try to dodge them.” He moved from his knees to a crouch and then to an awkward half-squat on his heels. “Alright, stay behind me, then.” The shield was only so big, but he could use it and himself to keep her safe, and the shield would protect his vital parts as long as he stayed hunched. And hunched he stayed, keeping as low a profile behind the shield as possible. He would still have to duck his head and keep an eye on the trajectories if he didn’t want to get shot in the face or legs, but it was progress. “Slow and steady, let’s go.” Don’t get shot in the face, don’t get shot in the a**, don’t get shot in the d— well, just don’t get shot at all. They could do it. As long as the centaur—duck duck duck!—didn’t start trying to land trickshots…

“Slow and steady.”Urania smiled back. They’d make progress, but it would be slow. Luckily, the centaur didn’t appear to have any tricks. Just plenty of arrows! Plunk. Plunk. Plunk. The sound of arrows on wood accompanied them as they moved closer. Every now and then one flew over their heads or got dangerously close to their feet. But as long as both were behind the shield, they seemed safe. “Alright! I’m going to jump for it.” Urania said as they got close to the man horse. She wasn’t one to wait, either. It was as if the ‘slow and steady’ was replaced with the ‘fast and daring’ in an instant. It was a good thing that Urania was very good at jumping. The second she mounted the centaur, it disappeared and the sphere spoke again: The second task is from Pegasus, the Winged Horse.
Catch the flying horse.Suddenly, a spectral pegasus appeared and immediately took to the air on its massive wings. A rope appeared on the ground next to them. ❂

‘I’m going to jump for it’ had been a very scary thing for him to hear when the ‘it’ in question was a centaur dedicated to the singular task of turning them into pincushions. He was glad she was agile enough to pull it off! Emain Ablach knew first aid well enough that he could probably stop the bleeding, but that wasn’t going to do much good against an arrow or three. But she landed the jump and that was all that mattered, and Emain Ablach let out the breath he’d been holding. He got to his feet as soon as the centaur disappeared and moved to rejoin her. But the next phase of things cut him off. The winged horse appearing suddenly caused him to take a step backward with a shout, and it suddenly taking flight didn’t help things. He did see the rope! And he supposed that it was probably for lassoing the winged horse. But he wasn’t a cowboy, and he didn’t think the senshi was, either. Nevertheless, he picked up the rope and looked up at the target as it flew around them. He did know his way around knots, at least, and he started immediately tying one end of the rope into a large slip knot. “I hope you’re ready to yeehaw our way through this one.” If the pegasus started divebombing them or firing lasers as it flew around, he was going to be upset.

Urania looked up at the horse that had just sprouted wings. She really shouldn’t be in awe. She’d seen this kind of thing before. But anything that could fly simply amazed her, regardless. “I really shouldn’t be surprised, but the flying one gets me every time. This clan always had horses, but seeing one fly like that aways amazes me.”Well, they needed to focus on the task at hand. Luckily, Emain Ablach was already on it with a plan. “Oh. You know how to tie a knot?” Urania was amazed. “If you can throw the rope around its neck or limps or even the wings, I might be able to stun it for a few seconds.”Urania called her magic and a star appeared beneath the horse and a blinding light emitted from it, stunning the horse for a moment. Quote: Super: Star’s Link. An ethereal astronomy chart manifests around Urania and three stars become platforms to stand on. For the next 15 seconds, she can use the stars to create a path either vertically or at a 45 degree angle and cross over them. Allies may follow her on this path. However, enemies that try to follow will find that the stars will glow brightly, blinding them for 3 seconds and then disappearing under their feet. She can now summon the star immediately under an enemy to blind them for 3 seconds, but she will not be able to use the stars as platforms if she uses it in this way. Two uses. Amasis Roll a d4 to throw the rope. Because you have a good knot in the rope, any result other than a 1 will succeed. ❂

“Under any other circumstance,” began Emain Ablach as he tracked the winged horse around, “this would be cool as hell.” It was still cool as hell, who was he kidding? Her question did get him to glance her way for a second and, for a second, there was the debate as to how blunt he should be about it. He opted for, “I do macrame and one of my partners was a boy scout.” The less TMI, the better. Now, could he actually do anything with the makeshift lasso? Again, he wasn’t a cowboy, and the bright flash of light almost blinded him with the horse, but Emain Ablach was going to give it his best shot. Whirling the rope around his head, he flung it toward the winged horse and was gratified to see his best shot resulting in it at least hitting the target. Even better, the rope managed to catch a toss of the horse’s head and go over more-or-less completely. The rope snagged on an ear, but Emain Ablach hurriedly flicked his end of it and that got the loop to finish going over before the winged horse could toss it off. Then, he pulled carefully, firmly but not so firmly that the knot would slide up to choke the horse without some effort on the horse’s part. Now, depending on how strong the horse was, he might need help pulling it down from the sky—

Urania didn’t know what macrame or boy scouts were. She wouldn’t have known what most things the knight told her were. She was oblivious in more ways than one. “Let me help you reign it in.” She said and immediate helped pull on the rope. With both of them pulling, the winged horse’s resistance was futile. They brought it to the ground and then it disappeared like the centaur. The sphere spoke again as it had before. Your final task is from Equuleus, the Horned Horse.A unicorn appeared before them, just as the centaur and the pegasus had. But this one did not attack or move. It simply bowed its slender head and pointed its glittering horn at the two. Answer my riddle and I shall let you through:
The prosperous believe we smile on them; the doomed beg for reprieve. But no one can outrun us, or the destines we weave. ❂

Oh. A riddle. For a moment, Emain Ablach wished that Diryas were there. He liked riddles. Was good at them. But then the moment was over, because Emain Ablach didn’t have time for wishing. “Uh, well…” Surely if he thought about it, he’d be able to figure out the riddle himself, anyway. He murmured the riddle aloud, repeating it back to himself, glancing at Urania to see if she had any ideas. The last thing he wanted was for them to be run through with that horn. ‘The prosperous believe we smile upon them.’ Something about that phrasing in particular caught his attention. Smile upon… Well, ‘God’ and ‘heaven’ were what he was most familiar with, but that was certainly not what the unicorn meant. Especially not with the ‘we’ included, there. Another glance toward Urania as he ventured, carefully, “…Stars?”

The unicorn looked at the knight serenely and nodded its head. The Travelers had many answers to this riddle as they traveled far and wide and received many different answers in return. It smiled, if a unicorn could be said to smile. You have given me a correct answer and so I will clear the forest for you. With that, the unicorn disappeared and the sphere lit up one final time — and, just as she had said, the fog lifted from the forest. “We did it!”Amasis Congratulations! You have completed the challenge. You can claim your Crown Token in the Crown Token thread. (Quote me and link to this thread.) ❂
