Youma General Faustite

For a time, Faustite stared at the blinking cursor on the blank box of a text missive. Headache stared at him through Alkmene's borrowed eyes. Together, they had waited for fifteen minutes.

Faustite had written messages to his subordinates before; whether to individuals or to groups, the act of passing on a message as a superior officer was not alien to him. But he had always done so with Negaverse work in mind; now that he had reason to disseminate a message that didn't directly benefit the Negaverse, Faustite was at a loss for how to phrase it, or if he wanted to write it at all.

The team deserved to know. He'd been telling himself this for at least a week. They deserved to know how Faustite was doing if their fates were at all tied to his. It would grant them time to determine if it was worth staying on with him, or moving over to another team, or if they wanted to try their hand at taking over for him if he became a youma, or made arrangements to leave and rejoin the Negaverse like a youth who couldn't commit to college for longer than a single semester.

So he should tell them. It was just a question of how.

Groaning, Faustite shifted in his seat. "Tell them…" And he fell silent again while not!Alkmene bore violent holes into his head. Faustite took this with all the grace of Not Making Eye Contact, preferring instead to stare at the opened splits in his hands and the popped heat blisters speckling his skin like constellations. He fell silent again. Let his thoughts wander again. He didn't want to make a production out of this; people died all the time. Half-youma had unknown lifespans. It wasn't beyond the pale that someone like him, who had a history of trouble with his youma side, was finally becoming a youma in full.

"Tell them 'my youma side's overpowering my human side. Need energy for myself now. Requesting that you drain extra energy until further notice'. Think that's enough." Finally Faustite raised his attention to Headache, who only stared at him for a moment longer, almost bitterly, until it typed out the short missive, word for word, and showed its knackered master. Once it received a nod of approval, it sent the message to Faustite's peers and subordinates.

Tama was at the office rather quickly. He hadn’t even put his tablet away. He also hadn’t knocked.

“‘Requesting that you drain extra energy until further notice.’ I’m sure you’re well aware Mauvians can’t actually drain energy.”

The Mauvian listed off without even looking at the general.

“‘Need energy for myself now.’ I also know you well know that I don’t think that half-youma subsist on something other than energy.”

He checked it off his list with a wave of a pale and well-manicured hand.

“‘Tell them 'my youma side's overpowering my human side.’ I suppose this is what you actually need me for given even Metallia can’t do anything about the first two.”

He slammed his tablet shut and pointed the pen that remained in the general’s direction. His violet eyes were accusatory.

“I knew you were hiding something. Now confess.”

Zuzu burst into the office in tears, accusingly showing the message on her tablet at Faustite as Tama - in his human form - glared daggers at their General. "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME!? Did you tell Prehnite? Or YOUR HUSBAND ALBITE!? YOUR FAMILY SHOULD KNOW YOU'RE DYING!" she shouted through her tears. She'd been on her way to show her new power up, to show how she'd grown with the help of Haymitch and a General Sovereign. To show that she'd gotten even more pretty in her time in the Negaverse!

The text had caught her completely off guard and she bolted into the office like someone was murdering kittens on the other side.

Mizuki collapsed on the desk, absolutely shoving things off the side, and sobbed uncontrollably while also muttering curses at Faustite between gasps for air for being a terrible father and a terrible general and how dare he hide this from his family repeatedly.

--

Haymitch on the other hand trotted into the office more muted - having been with Zuzu for her promotion - and hopped up on the not Mizuki covered side of the desk and curled up. "I know you needed some more fire proof tech but.. I didn't know it had gotten this bad, Faustite..."

He rested his head on his fluffy tail and gave Faustite the absolute saddest cat eyes he could possibly do. "I'm guessing Headache wrote it for you?" he said, gesturing to the poor youma in the room with them. He didn't know a whole lot about youma and their capacity to expression emotions other than hunger but he almost looked... extremely bitter and annoyed with his bonded general. Poor creature.

Then again, Faustite was becoming a full youma so there was... that. He didn't feel it needed to pile onto the reprimands he was already getting though.

Eternal Husband Albite, Corrupt Senshi of Retribution

The stroke of luck that meant Waru had been with Adam at the time; how he'd gone from relaxed after blowing off steam into rapt attention faster than a some planes broke the sound barrier. The ping of the tablet had gotten his attention, all customized to Faustites chime. He'd expected to get called for lunch, dinner, something benign--

Not this.

So he maybe nearly had himself a full on bout of p a n i c -- the heart seizing, eye watering, breathing air is for clowns-- 'Hey we gotta go see my husband ********>'-- kind of panic.

That Borax was the most emotionally detached, sadistic son of a b***h he'd ever met? Honest to goodness *helped* things. A similar ease as what he had with Jada where he didn't need to worry so much about feelings as long as he didn't expect them to be lobbed back in his direction, they were sane sounding boards and shut him down bluntly, sharply, with eyes n' words and simple manipulation tactics. It was grounding as ******** and he'd never thought to thank either of them for that. Espescially when it meant he could be all shards of pieces of himself, a complete faultline-fracture of a human being, while they were solid as folded steel.

Albite had pulled on power, taken Borax's hand-- stepped directly into the office (because doors were for suckers and he'd never bothered to use them anyways) and right behind a line of wailing Zuzube's, saddened Hayboys, and one righteously feral sounding Tama, <********> he suddenly needed more arms to hug them all with, or maybe he needed to let them grieve properly in their own ways, or open his fat mouth and refute that Faustite was dying entirely? Couldn't do any of that without giving away the B-plot which was all of Faustites to share. So he released Borax and made himself available for hugs, or punching, or whatever they needed...

When did Zuzu glowup!?! *How had they missed that!!?*

And Tama----

"He can exist on things other n energy, ********? There was that one time..." and he felt like the guy outside a glass house throwing boulders, something to break the tension with sound. He had no comforting lies to tell this time, just sad eyes and a singular fact offered abrasively as he never meant to be. Faustite totally ate things other than energy though, he'd witnessed it! Why he needed so much more of it for himself now was a bit beyond Albites comprehension.

Basic Cryolite, Corrupt Senshi of Sublimation

Syrus had been scrolling errantly, aimlessly enjoying the companionable quiet of sharing a space without needing to fill it with endless sounds. Then the bell tolled and all the world ended with a midnight-scythes stroke that begged mourning. His mouth ran dry as he read the message that came up over the tablet, something he normally would've ignored, had the message not seemed so utterly dire.

It held a cold finality that even Syrus couldn't ignore. The man stifled a litany of '********'; yanked on Matt's arm, a quiet plea and stern eyes. Cryolite didn't say a single word as he stepped into Faustites office, fingers laced somberly, black nails curled into the backs of his palms. Witnessing the whole of it with plucked string levels of worry.

'He can't be dying---can he?' the thought felt hollow, everything felt hollow.....

Eternal Sailor Fulgurite

He and Syrus had settled into a comfortable routine when Matt came over. The silence was nice. Welcomed. He had pulled himself into the corner of the couch with his laptop, typing away at a new idea that had motivated him. Matt was content to simply quietly do that in Syrus' presence--

But then the message came, and while Matt initially ignored it, Syrus's face lost even more color, and Matt knew he should at least look. Didn't quite get the chance before Syrus was asking if they could go.

Matt glanced at the message, then.

Was Faustite dying?

Matt's brows rose in surprise, and he quietly agreed to take Syrus as Cryolite, letting him cling to his arm all the while as Matt as Fulgurite tried to figure out what exactly had happened.

Say what he would say about the Negaverse and how entrapped he felt by everything they made him do, he didn't wish for his bosses to die

Lieutenant Borax

Albite knew him better than most, oddly enough.

Borax had not intentionally tried to bond with Albite so much as he found himself in his sphere enough, and they found that they had mutually beneficial preferences leading to a mutually beneficial arrangement. It came with a consequence he didn't necessarily intend, but Albite was right to assume the cold, sadistic son of a b***h behaviour would stop Borax from reacting with the same emotional tsunami as Albite. It did make his brows raise in curiosity; he did want to know what was happening to make the last condition he saw him in so much more significant--

He had no problems with the requirements, though.

Borax entertained, mentally, if he should ask if starseeds were also necessary, but he kept that to himself with the total torrent of emotion around him. In another situation this might have been almost...

Well, not important.

Borax used his stature to help him observe, though he did offer, casually, "Are there any non-energy sources that would assist?" He'd ignore the roaches. Seemed best to preserve what dignity he could.

Super Fafnir

The message had sparked both worry and a sense of vindication. Fafnir had known Faustite hadn't looked well, even if the man had dodged any mention of it, or any suggestion he take things easy. He'd known something was wrong. Here was the proof of it, and it terrified him.

Without much thought, he'd teleported himself outside Faustite's office, fully intending to interrogate the general. To his surprise, though he realized that was stupid, there were already a fair number of people here. No doubt for the same reason he was there. It set him back a bit and he entered far more quietly than he'd intended, all the questions he'd wanted to ask burning a hole through his tongue as he kept his jaws shut.

The girl in purple was already making enough of a scene for ten people and everyone was asking questions. Folding arms over his chest, he settled himself to stand near the door and listen, prepping his own questions for when the others ran dry. Being over taken by the youma... what did that mean for Faustite as a person? What did that mean for all of Fafnir's plans? And, belatedly... What was that going to do to Heliodore? Albite?

Self-interest warred with true, unselfish concern, his thoughts wandering back and forth, from question to question.

Anyone who's popping characters in later can assume that they had heard this bit!

Youma General Faustite

The Mauvian (Tama) received a long stare — partly, he was trying to recall if he ever ate in front of the cat, and partly, he was trying to decide how to explain that Headache took 'the team' as literally as it took everything else. The demand for a confession, however, was met with a terse "That is the explanation." He did not think that such a thing as that warranted an entire discussion, nor did it necessitate people showing up in his office about it.

"Can't help it if Headache takes 'the team' to mean you, too, despite the content." Though he rather wished it had the sense — or chose to use that sense — for this occasion.

Then there was Mizuki, all stormy tears when she entered his office, though she quite looked brought up a level; he had initially wanted to congratulate her on being promoted, likely for all the good work she had done for her branch, but now wasn't the time. Now definitely wasn't the time with her vociferous demands for why he hadn't told her anything. But she wasn't done, and the stack of reports that had been sitting on the corner of his desk were now sitting on the floor. His inkwell, too. His collection of pens. Faustite sighed smoke through his nose.

"Not dying," he protested. He wasn't going to touch on the intersectionality between youmafication and death. "But now you both know what's going on." And Albite, certainly, couldn't complain about being left in the dark.

Faustite's attention went to Haymitch and he nodded. The cat knew how to play up a scene, however, so he shifted his gaze to the youma in question, which gave up its guise and burst into a cloud of fireflies. "Fine, then." Faustite huffed at it.

Then there was Albite, and Faustite's attention lit on him next. He brought Borax. Looked like he was going to have a meeting, whether he intended to make this a meeting or not.

That Albite was doing his damndest to try to refute the notion that he was dying — and failing to make much sense of it — in addition to giving away one time with a roach? If Faustite needed any more clues that he should add more explanation, he would have had fewer brain cells than his beloved husband. Faustite fixed him with a burning gaze that said shut your ******** hole just as Cryolite and Fulgurite made it into his office as well. Then Fafnir, too. Was anyone else inviting themselves into his office? Was Jet going to show up with Axinite? How about the rest of the Negaverse? Why not ******** Metallia, just for fun?

"I eat food like everyone else does," he explained, hoping it put that notion to rest. When Borax had asked about non-energy sources, Faustite thought briefly that he had meant food, but food was circuitously an energy source. "Don't know what you mean by that," he responded. He supposed technology was a non-energy source, but Faustite was the last person to ask about how technology might help him.

But he supposed he should provide more of an explanation than what he gave in text, if half his team had crowded into his office for it. "Never needed energy. Never bothered with it. Made enough of it myself to sustain my youma side, in retrospect.

"But something happened in the last mission that —" he paused, hand searching the air for the correct turn of phrase, "— powered up my youma side. Burst of energy that filled the building's energy reservoirs. Without enough energy, it's been spreading. Taking up parts of me in search of more energy. Been slowly getting sicker since." Faustite unbuttoned the sleeve on his splinted hand and rolled it up, demonstrating that the black skin that marked his youmafication had climbed from his wrist to the middle of his forearm now.

"Been too tired to do much because of it. That's why I sent the text." Or had Headache send it, more accurately, though he could only guess the abomination it sent out to have spawned such an uproar.

“Wait. He ate what?”

Tama shook his head at Albite. There were way too many people here now. And one was crying about how the general was dying. What was it about Faustite that always seemed to draw a crowd?

And what was with him always harping on what he claimed he had already explained?

“You are the absolute worst at explaining things. Like, for one, youma need energy. People need food. So, you need both now. Makes sense. More sense than just energy. But you’re also literally the only bastardized combination of youma and human I know and so, given the text, I assumed you only needed energy. But since Albite has confirmed the need for food as well… sure, we’ll count bugs as food. Because why not?” Tama waived his hands around, the exasperation clear in his voice.

Then he simply shook his head and sighed.

“You should have never tried to use yourself as an energy source like that.”

Captain Jadarite

More energy? That was the last thing that Jadarite needed to worry about. She had a mission in the works, she didn't need chores and busywork like she was still a Lieutenant.

It was only a few minutes until she stopped by the office for clarification, only to walk in to see Mizuki crying on the desk, most everyone else looking stricken in a quieter way, and Faustite himself talking about the difference between death and youmafication.

With only a slight raise of the eyebrows, Jada walked silently over to stand near Borax and observe.

He certainly looked worse than he had the last time that she'd seen him. Now she understood why he'd messaged. Unless something changed, he was on his last legs.

To his partners, there might have been some difference between death and youmafication, but to Jadarite, both meant the same thing. Youma could hardly hold rank. She'd be without a General for a second time, before she'd even managed to gain such a rank for herself.

Glancing around the room, she wondered who would fill that power vacuum. If her mission was successful, then they would have no reason to deny her a promotion. She could be the one filling his shoes. He'd asked her to fill in for him once before.

Looking at his thin face, she only hoped that she would have enough time for it to all go through.

Super Heliodor

Heliodor hurried up to the office, the message sent out not unexpected for the contents but the fac that it had even come. Faustite wasn't the sort to worry others until necessary. Apparently, he realized things could no longer remain a secret. He'd deteriorated too far and to keep him going the rest of the team needed to know. So, it wasn't a surprise to find that others had come to the same conclusion as himself and swarmed the office. It was a good thing Faustite had a decently sized one to house so many of the team at once.

The corrupt slipped in taking in the scene as he listened to Faustite explain. It still hurt to hear. What was worse was seeing the distraught expressions of the others. Poor Zuzu was a mess at the desk as she wailed her dismay. Tama was...well...he was Tama. Using reasoning to try and make sense of this situation.

He looked to Albite who, to some may appear to be taking this all incredibly well, but like Helio, the Eternal had some time now to digest it. To try and accept what was going on and work out a plan to fix it. Still it wasn't easy to have it put out on the floor like this. Helio caught the man's eyes and shared a look of understanding before he turned his attention to his brother.

Fafnir looked like he had tucked himself into a quiet space to observe and Helio unapologetically intruded on that space in search of an anchor. While their relationship was still rebuilding itself, that brotherly bond was quick to bring back old habits. Trey had always been there for him in the past and now, Helio sought out that strong presence.

Helio had nothing to add to the conversation considering he, Faustite and Albite had all discussed options for a while now. So, for now, he let himself just be. Just exist next to Faf as the whole scene played out.

Fafnir winced, but otherwise kept his thoughts to himself. He’s known there was something wrong… but this was far more than he had anticipated. Faustite…

Feeding him energy was not a solution, only a stop-gap. They couldn’t sustain an increased quota forever, and part of him doubted their great and powerful Metallia would care to have competition from within her ranks. It made him wonder if the general sovereigns knew about this. Surely they must, but if they did, why hadn’t they done something to fix the problem? He knew the Negaverse was not the happy family some wanted to believe, or even just an unfeeling, mechanical corporation. He knew things happened here, things most people would look at with horror, but it still, as a whole, operated with forethought and an eye to the future. Logically, even if that logic took a more brutal leaning.

Faustite was a problem that should not have been left to fester, if only for the damage it was doing to structure and morale.

If he goes youma, I’m going to have to start over with someone new… and I was comfortable here. I liked it here.

The warmth of his brother’s presence appeared at his side and part of Fafnir relaxed, reaching out to place a hand on his back in a gesture of comfort and solidarity. This had to be hardest for Helio… he stood to loose more than most of them, save those like Albite. “Did you know about this?” He murmured in an aside to him.

Basic Cryolite, Corrupt Senshi of Sublimation

“So you’re not ‘dying’, but you’re going to continue existing on life support provided by us? The kind that has to be energy now, obviously, because its progressed so far! Because without it you’ll just – you’ll what?” He knew damned well Faustite wasn’t going to turn into any sort of ******** butterfly, if that was the intonation, that he’d shed his skin in a blaze of fire and be himself no more – but still be alive – it sounded utterly, absolutely, horrifying! Why didn’t Faustite sound horrified?! Why didn’t Albite look horrified!!

"Waru you a**, this isn't a joke---" misdirected stab of emotion, and he wondered how long Waru had sat on this, knowing something was up, and kept up the façade of the innocent and uninformed. For the sake of the team, or to respect Faustites wishes, whatever -- Cryolite still would've liked to have known!

"If you're not dying and we don't fix this what exactly becomes of -- of you -- us -- everything -- Faustite, honestly!?" hissed syllables and Cryolite felt useless standing there. Knew Fulgurite should've been a calming presence at his side and utilized the man as a pillar to cling to. Instead of bearing his teeth further at Albite, sheathed his own claws in the mans draped blue sarong. Oh, if he didn't *do* something he was going to be so upset, because when he and Faustite had spoken last he hadn't realized things were severe as this -- looking at the man now, though? The way the one husband Cryolite knew of flailed, amidst the dawning silence punctuated by only a few. Cryolite knew things were maybe very dire indeed.

Eternal Husband Albite, Corrupt Senshi of Retribution

"M'not making a joke of it! But he does exist on more than just energy as he is now -- err -- He did, he was, before --" the roaches hadn't been a joke, just a cute little incident, and maybe he should'nt have brought it all up and he was getting that now. Espescially with all the gaunt and dragging looks from the bodies in the room, everyone looking some mix of scared, confused sad. The way Tama hit the nail on the head and Albite did want to defend his boy; they didn't know what using his body as an energy source would do.

They'd done the cat thing though -- curiosity at a cost -- sussing out something suspicious at a risk. "He definitely isn't dying though, we're just gonna -- s'like a vitamin supplement -- till we get a permanent fix." and his hitched words sounded pathetic next to Sy's pointed asks, he knew that. Knew he didn't have any answers for anyone, the same way he didn't know of a fix that didn't end in dying (figuratively if not literally), because even if Faustite actually dying existed as a possibility at the back of Albites mind, always, forever, he wasn't yet willing to say it out loud nearly as much as he was willing to tip toe around it like a too hot fire in the middle of the room. Faustite was sick, starving, changing, but not dead. Not dying!

Zuzu's sad cries and Hayby's big eyes drew him ever closer to the desk though -- intensified his hovering -- did he scoop them up and squeeze them or sew his yap shut mid mouth opening. He shot the sensible people in the room looks; clear as day help me signs, because honestly? He'd stepped well beyond his scope of knowledge miles and miles ago. Had depended on his ignorance - his hope - until his eyes told him otherwise, and then what was he supposed to do after that? Wish on a star? Dig a hole for the pair of them? He'd rather be at Faustites side than spend his time looking for questions to ask to answers he didn't know the existence of...

Now that the team was fully aware though? Maybe, just maybe, they could figure something out---

Corrupt Super Sailor Mizuki

She sniffled and slowly the sobs died down as she regained control of herself. He wasn't dying... but the youma was trying to eat him! That wasn't any better! She huffed a little and used a piece of his paper work to blow her nose, before backing up.

Okay so they just needed to... bring him more energy? She could bring him more energy. She would bring him all the starseeds she could possibly find. All the energy she could gather. He wouldn't die! He wouldn't be turned into a youma! He was just... different now! Needed different things now! She could help with that! She would help with that. She had to, she absolutely had to!

She couldn't just let him.... wither.

And die.

"I will bring you so many starseeds, and so much energy, Faustite! I swear it! I won't let anything happen to you!" she swore, wiping her eyes dry. Suddenly that murderous glint her eyes sparked back up and she tucked her arms behind her back. She clicked her heels, she did everything she could to look as normal as she could. Well... normal for Mizuki, anyway. She wouldn't make Faustite worry about her. Or Albite, who'd inched slowly closer during her sobbing on the desk.

Cyrolite's words though sank deep in her belly. She might have another home to go to, but what of their family here? If Faustite couldn't lead them... would they be split up? Would Jadarite take over? Or Albite? Or would the General-Sovereigns reassign them?

Something cold formed in her chest. It was like a lump of rock, freezing her from the inside out.

Fear.

But she couldn't feel fear anymore! Metallia took that from her! Metallia gave her power and a family in exchange for her fear! She couldn't still... possess it...

No no that was... that was silly! That was stupid! That wasn't possible! It was just a left over from the promotion, the Chaos settling inside her! Yes! After all, her new fuku had openings just under the lilac broach on her chest now! It was just a passing chill from Cryolite! Yes!

The ice in her chest didn't melt, though.

Youma General Faustite

It seemed perfectly sensible, to Faustite, to respond to Tama by setting him on fire in an unbridled fury. Expected, even. The cat mouthed off, therefore the cat got barbecued and either the problem would correct itself or the problem would taste like desiccated chicken to whoever had a hankering for Mauvian that day.

But Faustite was too tired to do more than think about it. So he thought it as hard as his all-muscles-no-brain husband thought when he tried to understand the concept of wireless bras. "Can't undo what's been done."

What he hadn't expected was Cryolite beginning to sass him. His unimpressed gaze shifted to the Basic, growing wearier still, as that one spouted off about chores and life support. As if picking up extra energy was so great a task when it was spread across over a dozen pairs of hands. That one wanted the totality of it, the end of the road, the worst case scenario that Faustite was trying to prevent by asking for more energy in the first place. He rubbed his face slowly.

"Going off that pendant's disguise… Either all of my skin will boil off and I'll become a flaming thing that wears it as a cape, or I'll." He didn't know. What did death look like for a half-youma whose human side expired and whose youma side hadn't finished devouring the starseed? "Burn to death." Seemed reasonable enough.

"Can't read the ******** future, Cryolite. Still trying to prevent it."

The boy was antagonizing Albite, and his boy looked harried for it. The brothers looked just as grave, standing in their shared silence and looking on like they were watching a spectacle or a funeral. They read the subtext where Albite was still searching for optimism, for an easy fix. It pained him to hear it, just as it aggravated him to hear Mizuki trumpet her nose with the cover page of a report.

"If you want more answers than that, I don't have any."

Albite was trying to be so optimistic. Attempting to bring levity to a situation that had none and Heliodor appreciated the man for it even if it hurt to watch. The sudden urge to wrap the eternal up his arms and offer support had him tip forward on his toes, only to stop as other's continued talking.

Fafnir's hushed words pulled Helio's eyes from Faustite's husband, to his brother. It centered the super, as he nodded in confirmation. "I didn't realize he would require energy to keep going, but...it makes sense." His matched his brother's voice level, keeping the conversation from floating above the chatter or worries for their General.

Cryolite was given Faustite's sharp tongue for a lashing and Helio was glad to see he still had the gumption for it. The basic was certainly overstepping himself though even despite his logical concerns.

"Is it just energy you need?" He questioned. "Would starseeds be beneficial or would they make things worse at this point?" Starseeds, while powerful, were an addiction that Faustite was likely still getting over. Plus, what if they helped nurture Agnis? Made the youma stronger? Energy intake could be controlled but too many starseeds could be problematic.
