One Abyss
Galvorn's Chambers.

As each team returned, they were quietly directed into a semi-circle surrounding the energy supply tube in the corner of the room. Once everyone had gathered in the admittedly cramped main area, Faustite spoke, and while he tried to gesticulate, his hands kept bumping the barriers to the tube. "Seems everyone is accounted for. Want to thank you all for your efforts to glean what we can from this place. We've learned much – enough to put together a coherent history of this place once all the data is compiled.

"But we've more to explore. An office awaits us at what should have been the top of the building. I've reason to believe the General that oversaw this place may still be there. His bonded seemed certain of it.

"Seen enough of the footage to infer that this place was raided many years ago. Therefore, we don't know what we'll be walking into when we reach General Galvorn's office. Best case scenario, we would find him hale and of sound mind, but I have never known anyone to survive the Rift for long – not with its lack of essentials. More likely that we'll encounter a body along with the ire of the knights who came here." Faustite folded his hands together in an attempt to keep them from bumping the sides of the tube.

He cast a glance over to the Captain loitering by a terminal. "What's our energy status?"

The Captain startled, caught unaware, then touched the terminal a few times. "54%, enough power to last almost three hours."

"Good. This time, I'll be joining you."

The captain disengaged the power supply, which dropped the static-laden shield and allowed the burning General to step out of its confines. He looked tired, as if he could do with a day of rest, but he tried to compensate for it with a homemade peanut butter bar that was pulled from subspace. It began to melt in his grip, however, and he hastily shoved the object between the bars of his grate as he continued.

"Team Pipevine discovered that some chains bar our access to our destination in the main elevator shaft, but Team Leopard located a second elevator offshoot that we will use. Like last time, we will proceed with two teams riding the elevator at a time. Teams Viceroy and Mourning Cloak will descend first – I will ride with you. Teams Spicebush and Cabbage will go next, followed by Monarch and Question Mark, then Leopard and Pipevine, and Parnassius and Yellow will bring up the rear.

"We descend in a half hour. Be ready."

At last, they made it. Having learned what they could of the prior floors and having unlocked the elevator, all teams gathered and descended to the lowest floor in the building. This was, as they've gathered, Galvorn's chambers – a vast set of workshops with the descending elevator reaching the very middle of the area.

Around them, they found that the room sported the same obsidian walls with their bundles of light and metal supports as the rest of the structure, but that was where the similarities ended. This area was cylindrical in nature, with a ceiling roughly three stories high. Mounted at the top of the room were floodlights to provide ample visibility from every angle, tinted a fiery orange from the tubules that still cycled Faustite's fire throughout the building. Various pillars carried more cables down from the ceiling in a controlled fashion, and these were plugged into the numerous contraptions spaced throughout Galvorn's workspaces.

The floor itself sported glass plating in the pattern of hardwood, and each plate had projected information in bright blue font when someone stepped near it. Much of it reflected production values, power statistics, and names of presumably officers and their vital signs (which appeared to be either missing or deceased). Only General Galvorn's name displayed critical. Scattered across the glass was a host of remains, belonging to many people that must have died here ages ago.

The area was separated into a series of workshops, with equipment crowded around each to section it off from the last. One section looked like a medical bay with its gurney and series of surgical tools piled on top of a tray. A plastic cover had insulated them, but it long degraded from years of disuse. Next to the gurney was an overturned IV pole and a few medical machines, though the metal cabinets cordoning off the area looked to be more promising.

The second area looked more like a weapon crafting station, if the nondescript black pot on the floor could be some kind of forge. Its lid was cast aside, lying on the ground near it. Next to the pot was a formal workbench, featuring a number of tools that were plugged into the bundles of light. One looked like some kind of futuristic glue gun, another looked like a pair of forceps, and a third looked like a glowing hammer with bright blue rings around the handle. Lying on the desk was an ornate dagger with bright blue symbols inlaying the blade itself. Some of the tools laid on the ground and the table looked bumped askew. Smaller boxes like the ones found on the upper floors were positioned around this area.

The third area looked like a research section, for it was covered with standing easels and billboards that surrounded a single leather chair. Much of them were knocked over, but a few remained standing, depicting diagrams of various weapons and traps. A third sketch was pinned up of a youma that had a detached mask for a head and several burly arms, with arrows drawn to different parts of its body and notes written in a fine hand.

It was just next to the chair that a monochromatic splotch remained. Inside of it was the figure of a man with his back to the elevator. He appeared quite tall and broad-shouldered, though slightly hunched over. It was easy to see why: over a dozen weapons of various kinds were thrust into his back, each bearing the same crescent moon symbol with a starseed captured by the points. There were axes, swords, pikes, and spears each jutting from him like a porcupine's quills.

It was in these chambers where the magic was strongest, having suspended rubble mid-fall and steel mid-strike and magic mid-cast. The edges of the room were splotched over with monochrome, and in those glimpses of the past, the room looked whole and undamaged. In those spots, there were no remains. Sometimes, there were explosions of magic in the middle of bursting, or an axe that was paused on its arc toward the lone figure in the room. Around each of these monochromatic glimpses into time were Pluto symbols. A total of seven were scattered about the room.

Faustite was the first to disembark. "Fan out," he instructed. "Suspect that's Galvorn, there. Leave him be for now. Better we get our bearings first."

Welcome to Area Seven! This room's name will be updated as characters learn more about it.

Here's some ground rules:
  • Event posts will be posted every 48 hours. As the event progresses, combat will be engaged. The initial post will allow characters to establish themselves and understand the area before combat occurs.
  • There is no post limit between prompts. However, unless otherwise told, characters may only investigate once after each prompt. Characters may attack every 24 hours.
  • Please do not reserve posts! There's no penalty for missing prompts!

  • Finished areas from earlier investigations will provide a bonus during part two.
  • There may be additional boons hidden around the area in part two.
  • All teams have one rugose pendant for the duration of the event. This can be used on anyone, but may only be used once during the event, so choose wisely if you decide to use it!

How to investigate:

  • Before posting for an investigation, roll 1d10 (a ten-sided die).
  • Edit the post and fill in for your character.
  • Add any relevant bonuses to your roll (if you're unsure of your bonuses, check this sheet or the quotes on this post!).
  • Quote me with " is investigating ! in your quote. Please include your total roll (with bonus if applicable)

Please make sure to include what your character is investigating in your quote – this helps me keep track of everything! The higher your recon roll, the more information may be gleaned from the investigation. The higher your tech roll, the more options may be available from nearby technology. Leadership rolls and combat rolls may be asked for in later prompts!

Have fun, and if you're uncertain of anything, feel free to ask! heart

“Well, you’re not dead, at least.”

Tama’s ears twitched as he waited for orders. It was unlike him to do so. Certainly, not from Faustite. But the Mauvian seemed amenable for once. Maybe it was because Faustite came out alright. Maybe because that meant he could still kill him down the line.

Tama sighed when he heard they were taking up the rear — it was hard to tell if it was relief or jealousy, perhaps both.

But any feelings he currently held about the mission or their general was mute. There was a familiar element to all this. And it wasn’t the dead general in the corner. Even Faustite with his half-youma body couldn’t have survived that many sharp objects to the chest.

In his back, too. Someone had it out for whoever this had once been.

With delicate fingers, he brushed a familiar P sysmbol.

Might as well start with what we already know.

Basic Corrupt Hylonome - Checking out the Medical Bay (( Roll = 2 ))

Once she had stepped off the elevator to hear General Faustite' command to fan out Hylonome went to the one area that she knew she would feel more comfortable in investigating. A medical bay complete with possibly supplies that could be scrounged for emergency use later on. Her gaze skirted over the gurney and the IV pole that was on its side but stopped on the tray of medical tools. Being a senshi with magic that was meant for healing meant that she relied on others to defend her until she was called upon but if she managed to squirrel away a blade of some sort - at least she'd be able to maybe slash at things if it came down to needing to fight back.

Scanning the tray the senshi of edelweiss plucked a rather delicate scalpel from all the other tools before proceeding towards the cabinets that were around and began to open and close the various doors, looking for anything that could be of use to the group ... actual medical supplies and that sort of thing.

Super Taenite
HP: 75

Taenite was thrilled about his lovely ring that may or may not have been pilfered from the skeleton of a knight or something that had been stabbed with a spear. But what was someone else’s loss (or death) was absolutely his gain.

“Does this mean you proposed to me, boss?” Taenite grinned cheekily over at Cymophane as he held the ring up to the light. “I don’t know. I don’t like being tied down by any individual.”

It was all in good fun, of course.

What was also in good fun was the neat diagrams of weapons and s**t, but his ring was still better.

General King Jet
HP: 125

They took the time to catch up in the thirty minutes before descending into the next area to investigate. He’d told Aquamarine of their findings, of the unfortunate fate of the youma they’d crossed paths with, as well as his strange magic gifted by the Uranus symbol he’d touched. He was grateful that no one had been seriously injured by the sudden fire that broke out in Aquamarine’s area, but he was reluctant to part ways now that everyone had joined together again.

“Stay close,” he said to his team. “Watch each others’ backs. Let’s try to gather more information than we did in the last area. I want everyone to investigate something, even if someone else is already looking at it. You might discover something the other overlooked. Anyone standing around will be asked to head back up to the surface to wait,” he warned.

Maybe he was being overly cautious now that he knew what this place was capable of. If there was another instance of fire, maybe Aquamarine’s team could have avoided it if someone took the time to inspect the fuel that surrounded them.

Perhaps it wasn’t a surprise that the ornate dagger caught his attention. It was nothing like his brother’s dagger that he kept on the shelf next to his desk, but he couldn’t help but reach for it, regardless, drawn to the bright blue symbols on the blade.

“I hate the White Moon,” he grumbled under his breath to Aquamarine, already looking forward to getting back home. Or at the very least out of the Rift.

Eternal Kamacite
HP: 100

Kamacite was still a bit shaken by the fire and the blinding light. He knew that the White Moon was dangerous, but how had they managed to set up so many traps in a place in the Rift?

Cymophane was already with his team, and Aquamarine was near Jet. His team didn’t really need too much direction. They knew what to do. He trusted Zultanite to do his best and to stay alive. Kamacite didn’t want to hover, but he kept an eye on him from a distance for the time being.

At least long enough so he could check on Roselite.

“Are you okay?” he asked quietly when he approached the Captain. “You’re not hurt?” There was too much going on for him to catch up with everyone he wanted to. Or really just have a breather for himself and try to settle his racing heart.

Since he was already used to looking down at his feet, it wasn’t a surprise that his attention was drawn to the information in bright blue. He frowned when it lit up, his stomach dropping a little because the vital signs for each officer was… well, not good. Everything scattered across the glass floor gave him pause. Were they walking into an unintentional crypt?

Wither looked to Beni with a frown as they made their way into the next area. There was nothing about this that wasn't weird, and Wither wasn't a fan of magic, he never had been in all the years he'd been in the negaverse.

He had to admit this sort of place would normally be a photographer's goldmine. The part where time was suspended was unbelievable. Wither gave a nod to Beni and headed toward that room.

He moved trying to avoid weird floating debris stopping at one of the symbols. He felt like it was a bad idea to touch it, but they also needed to figure what exactly happened here or was happening here.

He frowned reaching out to touch the symbol slightly on guard remember the chains in the elevator shaft.

Eternal Cymophane
HP: 100

“You’ll leave me at the altar then,” Cymophane joked, continuing off of Taenite’s silly comment about a proposal. “It’ll be dramatic. I’ll be heartbroken. How will I ever be whole again?”

He felt good about the mission so far. Then again, it was rare that Cymophane felt bad about anything. When he did, he tended to ignore the feeling, shove it away until he could pretend it hadn’t occurred. Despite some issues with some chains, no one on his team had been hurt. They’d even come by another elevator. It was probably all due to luck more than his leadership, but it made no difference to him. Plus, he happened to think he had a pretty good team.

Cymophane watched out for them as they explored as ordered, but he didn’t hover. They were all capable; they’d proven that.

“We’ll reunite years later, and I’ll be weak to your charms again. Poor decisions will be made. I’ll keep telling myself, maybe this time’ll be different, but things’ll end even more dramatically than before.”

Despite his joking around, Cymophane had more than enough attention for their surroundings. He studied the diagrams with Taenite, head tipped to the side in curiosity.

It was a little easier to feel more, not safe, but less anxious, not necessarily at ease with more officers around. This was her first real sort of mission and it while it was wild, it hadn't been too crazy. She didn't know what to expect though when you experience an indoor storm and you're standing in a room where you can see bits where time seemed standing still.

When they were told to fan out she moved about glancing briefly when she stopped to spot Fafnir before heading into the med bay. Someone else had the idea to try to get into the cabinets, but they looked like they were blocking something else.

"Do you think there is something back there?" She was mumbling, but actually talking to the person near her, even if she didnt look at them.

She moved to see if there was a way past the cabinets, maybe she could squeeze behind them or climb over. She probably looked silly, like a kid trying to find a good hiding spot.

General Aquamarine
HP: 100

Aquamarine would’ve been in a bad mood, but being reunited with Jet meant he was able to relax slightly — more so now than before Jet was a General King. He had less cause to worry when the only person stronger than Jet was the Queen.

He stood a bit closer than their surroundings necessitated, perhaps even a bit closer than what would be considered appropriate between most superior officers and their subordinates, but Aquamarine and Jet weren’t exactly your typical superior officer and subordinate. Aquamarine assumed most of their allies knew that already, so there wasn’t much point in pretending otherwise, except for his own lingering sense of propriety (and, of course, his lack of comfort with public displays of affection).

In Jet’s presence, Aquamarine could smirk instead of scowl. (At least while he had less to scowl about.)

“You’re hot when you’re ordering people around,” he said — low enough that the comment might not travel, though he didn’t put much effort into keeping it between themselves otherwise.

Aquamarine didn’t have to issue similar orders for his team. At this point, if they didn’t know what to expect if they didn’t pull their weight, he’d be glad to be rid of them. So far, he hadn’t been very impressed by any of them.

Then again, he was known to be difficult to impress.

Unsurprised that Jet had gone for the ornate dagger, Aquamarine took a moment to glance it over, too.

Captain Roselite
HP: 75

Roselite offered Kamacite a timid smile, then shook his head. He might not be hurt, but his hair had puffed out from static and looked a bit tangled from the storm.

He wasn’t any less afraid, though he felt slightly more confident now that they’d all reunited. Certainly not because he felt confident in himself, but being around allies he knew offered him a sense of comfort. Kamacite was there. Faustite was with them now, too. They had a General King in their midst.

The area they’d come to left Roselite unsettled. He tried not to let his gaze or his thoughts linger on the remains, but his eyes were inevitably drawn to the floor. Along with Kamacite, Roselite got a look at the information in bright blue.

“I wonder what happened here,” he whispered, wringing his hands together.

The scattered remains gave him a sense of foreboding, despite their apparent age.

Corrupt Super Fafnir
HP: 75

This whole area gave Fafnir bad vibes. Probably the worst of it came from the man frozen in time, pierced through with weapons. He stood like a ghost as the others began to disperse around the area, poised as though he might turn any moment and chastise them for being there. It was very horror video game, and he'd never been interested in those. Sharp eyes followed Taffeite, keeping tabs on her as she left his side, but there wasn't much about this place he was particularly interested in when there were so many other to play meat shield to the more potentially hazardous stuff.

The research area might have some interest though... As Fafnir stepped forward, surprise pulled him up short as a glow appeared under his feet. Crouching down, he studied the information printed across the floor, noting the names of officers and their vitals. It was concerning that the General's vitals were 'critical'. It meant he was still alive over there... locked eternally in his state of half-death. Fafnir had to wonder if he felt the pain of his wounds...

If there was anything else of interest in the information the others walked over, he hoped to find it.

General Benitoite.

The break between his own groups activities and the new search of the place had given him time to catch up with his group, and others whom he knew and worked with. It was time which was needed, in his opinion, and allowed him to unwind a bit before the new stage in the mission. The idea of an agent being down here, in this one singular building, for such an extgended period of time was a bit hard to wrap his mind around. To be alone, he assumed, for that long and in the Rift it was a lot. He just hoped the officer was still sane enough to not decide they were worthy of attacking...if he could attack them even. There was no telling the condition the officer would be in.

When they did arrive it was a place full of interesting items and things to investigate, there was no shortage of things to look over. After standing there for a moment the General finally decided on what to look at - the weapon and trap designs seemed interesting enough. He found weapons rather interesting, after all every officer had one, it shaped how an officer faught in some cases. Long weapons vs short close in weapons. He had a long range and he'd have an advantage against his cousin iin a fight...he could keep him away so he couldn't use his weapon even.

While he moved to look over the designs he couldn't help glancing towards the impaled figure. Moon knights he was guessing, maybe? Either way it deepened his hate for order - they needed to be taken out. But why did he seem frozen in place? Was that some pluto knights magic? He hoped not but he also wondered what state the officer was in and what animating him might do. This place felt unsettling and had him glancing about every few moments, eyes leaving the designs in order to check out everything and everyone around him.
