The Personal Things
▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃
Personality ● Aisling is a mischievous, energetic youngster. Despite professing to know that the world is a dark place, she is truly very naive. She is quite brave, or perhaps just foolish, in that she is not always dissuaded by the danger of a situation. Her manners often leave much to be desired, but her earnest nature grants her a kind of childish charm. She is prone to inappropriate behavior, often reacting in the wrong way to things. She often deals with negative situations by joking and trying to laugh off what happened, which can make it seem like she doesn't take things very seriously. In fact, such inappropriate emotional reactions are quite common for her. There are precious few things that she treats with the open seriousness they warrant. It should also be noted that she is very stubborn.
Underneath her cheery, happy-go-lucky exterior, Aisling is a deeply troubled girl. It isn’t just having powers that she doesn’t understand and cannot seem to control, although these certainly do play a role. She has a deep-seated sense of guilt due to believing that she is responsible for her mother’s death. She is quite emotionally fragile, but tries not to let this show. She tends to bottle things up, allowing her problems to fester until she can’t take it anymore. She also isn’t very good at keeping calm under pressure, which can often make things worse than they need to be. There are times when she has been known to break down, either panicking or having other adverse reactions.

Strengths
● Daughter of the Sea:As the child of a siren, Aisling has inherited quite a few of the physical traits of merfolk, which is what enabled her to live in the ocean as long as she did, and to not realize she was only a hybrid. Most interestingly, she seems to possess a weakened variant of a siren's singing ability. Her voice can be described as charming, even entrancing, but not to the point of enticing people into danger against their better judgement.
● The "Gift" of Magic...: From her father, Aisling inherited some measure of magical ability, though it is quite rare for this to show. She has an affinity for water elemental magic, and likely other oceanic effects, but without training it is difficult to pin down exactly what her talents are..
● Soft as a Kitten's Paw: When she wants to be, Aisling is capable of being surprisingly stealthy. She can slip by with the silence and grace of a little cat, likely aided in part due to her small stature making her quite easy to overlook. A soft touch and light steps definitely have a great influence upon this as well.
Weaknesses
● Only a Child: No matter how much she might try to act like a grown up, Aisling is physically and mentally a child. She lacks the strength of an adult, and she certainly lacks the maturity of one too!
● Control is Key: Magic is a dangerous plaything. In the hands of the unwary and uneducated, it can be a wild, uncontrollable force, as dangerous to the caster as it is to everyone else. Unfortunately, Aisling has had no training. She can neither call upon this power at will, nor can she control it when it does appear... With time, it will very likely be the end of her.
● Curiosity Killed The Cat: Aisling is a very nosy little girl. She has an unfortunate tendency to stick her nose where it doesn't belong, often listening in on other people's business, or worse, asking questions about things she gets curious about with no regard to whether it is appropriate for her to do so.

Biography
● Aisling was raised primarily in the ocean, as if she was a full-blooded siren. She was an only child, but never felt alone due to the rest of her family. There were moments when there was a subtle difference in how she was treated by some of her family. Things that let her know that she wasn’t really liked, but otherwise she had a good childhood. She was happy. For the longest time, she had no idea that she was a hybrid, the result of an ill-fated meeting between her mother and a pirate man who had left her mother with a permanent injury. When she learned there was something different about her, it was an unexpected and harsh lesson.
It wasn’t an accident when things went all wrong. They were out one day, away from the safety of family for what should have been a bit of fun. No trouble was expected, until a net was thrown towards them, like the ones aboard that ship intended to capture a pair of merfolk. Aisling was just quick enough to avoid being caught, but for her mother.. It was a different story. Of course she tried to help, but she was just a child and the nets were strong. Somewhere in the midst of that panic, she felt.. Something else. It was as if the sea answered her fear for a brief moment, turning against their attackers in a moment of wild fury. It was all over so fast, but her mother wouldn’t wake up. She wouldn’t answer her child’s cries and Aisling couldn’t just stay with her mother’s body. She had to go home, get help to do what she could not.
And so she left her mother’s side, going to tearfully tell others of what had happened to the best of her ability. What she had to say about the ocean “helping” them was disregarded as simply the imaginings of a distressed child. One of her aunts was told to look after her while the rest went to find her mother’s body. Unfortunately, the tides had swept her away before they arrived. When, hours later, the searchers returned, they found that Aisling was gone as well. Her aunt claimed not to know why she had left so abruptly, but in truth, she was the cause of it. She had never liked the child, quietly hating her for the harm that pirate had done to her sister. With Aisling’s mother now presumed dead, she had little qualms with letting the child know exactly what she thought, that little Aisling was to blame for what had happened.
Still caught up in her emotions, and hearing this from someone that she trusted, Aisling found herself believing it. Emotional choices are rarely smart ones. When her aunt wasn’t paying attention, she silently slipped away, fleeing to the land. Maybe she just couldn’t face the others in her community after what her aunt had told her.. Or maybe she was looking for answers and a new start, away from where she thought she was unwelcome. There was only one thing that she felt like she could do: find her father.
What she quickly learned was that the land above was nothing like her home. Legs were awkward and clumsy. People were very unkind and she had nothing but her clothes and her name. She was told precious little about her father. Only when she asked, and only when her mother was in a mood to tell. But what little she did know was all she had to rely upon. Finding him under these circumstances seemed like an impossible task. Before she could do anything else, she had to learn to survive all alone, while trying to hold on to the hope of finding out who her father was.
