Marshcress trembled slightly. He didn't imagine he'd ever be back -here-. The air was warm, and heavy and filled with the heady scent of decay. The buzz of bugs was heavy and omnipresnet. As it always had been. Probably as it always would be. Shallows pools were all over the ground, and water dripped occasionally from the overhanging trees. It wasn't raining and the moment, but it was never really dry here in Luremire.
Marshcress glanced at the rabbits who'd followed him. Were they brave or stupid? Maybe a little bit of both. They were hardly into the swamp proper, but he was already keeping his eyes peeled. He turned around, facing all the rabbits who'd followed him all the way from that lovely Pool ...
"Look, it's important that we're quiet. And very careful. See all those pools? Some of them are deeper. Deeper even than you giants are tall. So steer clear of them. And keep quiet. We don't want to be ambushed."

Eyesore followed dutifully behind Marshcress, head ducked low in case there were low hanging branches or vines up ahead. She grumbled angrily whenever a slimy drop of water splattered on top of her head. The air here was too moist, too cloying. It smelled of algae and stagnant, putrid swamp water. She'd always hated it. Now that she'd had a few deep breaths of that clean pool air, she was frustrated to return.
This was a land of betrayals and sadness. They were not welcome. And yet they came crawling back. "Perhaps if we lose some Giants, they will see that this is a death sentence and let us return." Forest felt sorry to these rabbits. Though he was nervous himself, venturing into the place where no rabbits belonged, he could feel an entirely different unease from them. This was no doubt a difficult journey to make. He felt a pang in his heart, thinking of the stress they were causing.
He had to remind himself that this was to help the new rabbits, as much as it was to gain information. They'd bring them back home, after all was said and done, if they wanted to return. They had a place in the arbor.
Marchcress mentioned the pools, and Forest nodded dutifully. Except he immediately stepped into a slightly-deeper-than-usual puddle, soaking himself in mud to the knee. He yelped and leaped forward, instinctively trying not to sink despite the fact that it was no more than a puddle. "How many other dangers are there?" He asked, quickly adjusting his tone from loud and frightened to obediently quiet. wc: 268 twc: 268

Sage stayed close to Eyesore, she knew her fellow exile could handle herself despite not having vision but she still wanted to be closer to her and Marshcress. She could trust them, she still wasnt sure about these strangers. She wasnt even sure what made her come back to Lumiere with them. Maybe curiosity, she was happy to out of the muck at least in part. She wouldn't admit how much she was actually hurt by the banishment and she would refuse to let the elders see any weakness in her.
She smirked at the thought of one of the muck pools swallowing a giant as they continued further into the swamp, but reality still remained as she voiced it hollowly to Eyesore, "Don't forget they discarded us like trash, they could of cared less if we died in the darkness. It's taboo for us to be back let alone bring outsiders....we may be lucky to see tomorrow." She didnt want to be so grim and negative but facts were facts... Kaga was giddy with excitement but tried to keep it on the inside as best he could as he saw so many new plants and things in this Swamp. Though it was very humid and sticky feeling he could look past that, he had brought a small bag made of leaves and vine and grab some specimen to take back to try and replant but he wasnt sure if it would take in their drier home climate. He tried to stay close to the rest of the group though and decided he would gather more on the way back home.
"Is the air always this thick? Does it ever get cold? Very strange, makes you feel so heavy.....I guess you get used to it though, huh? And those pool can you drink from them Marsh?", Kaga had completely forgotten about the point of them coming here and was focused only on what was around them at the moment, but maybe it would help lighten everyone mood. Gale had been somewhat quite through the trip, taking in the sights you could say as they traveled. Now they were in Lumiere territory, the swamp of all places. It was sticky and the air heavy, Kaga had the description there correct, but what was he going on about?! "Kaga was it?! This isnt exactly the time or place for a topography course.", the buck just smiled at her with a nod and kept moving, she gave him a half smile as an apology for snapping a bit. This climate obviously wasnt agreeing with her.
She cleared her throat and kept walking as the others spoke. Marsh had already mentioned to be wary of the pools as their appearance could be deceiving but would they really be ambushed by their once kin? And now the odd colored one known as Sage was talking of not making it back alive at all....."Could your elders really be so cruel? And im curious....why do you lot keep calling us Giants?! Haven't you noticed you are the same size as us?"

Kee made a point to stay close to Marshcress and the other Luremire natives, though he kept a wary eye on the outsiders. Being banished was terrible on it's own, but he could live with it. They could have made a new life in the darkness along side that beautiful pool. So why were they trekking back again with a herd of giants again? The merle buck wrung his paws when they paused. He didn't like this, not one single bit. Nope. He didn't have the nerve to speak up, though. Right. That's how he ended up there, because it was easier--safer even?--to stick with the group. He found no comfort in the idea of the giants being claimed by swamp pools. They seemed pretty determined, he doubted even that would deter them. They were after something, he knew it, he just couldn't quite yet pinpoint what. At least if they did end up getting ambushed, the giants would make for good cover. Kee listened to them chatter, asking too many questions, but he kept quiet. He didn't have any interest in speaking with these weirdos. 186 words.

Chami was slowly beginning to rethink her offer of following the strange rabbits. What was this place? It was too warm, with unsettling scents and almost felt sticky in the air. There were many bugs that buzzed around and the doe felt that she would never get her paws to be clean again after this! But the absolute fear and dread that the strange rabbits had been displaying just tugged at her heartstrings and she couldn't bare to leave them alone!
"That is very kind of you to give us a warning." Chami said with a motherly smile, taking heed of Marshcress' warning. The pools were intimidating on their own. She'd rather not find out just how deep some were.
"Oh, yes." The doe suddenly perked up, hearing the question that another doe with white fur and lovely gold dye asked. "Why do you refer to us as giants? I don't feel like I'm giant." She frowned. "I still can't believe someone would be so cruel as to banish you." Chami added with a tender look. These poor rabbits!

Lightning Bug inched along at a careful and cautious pace, always looking over his shoulder, only to move closer to the other rabbits in their group. Why? Why did they have to return?! Marshcress could have just lead this group astray! Said they were there and then left these giants to figure out the rest. The buck felt a shiver race down his spine, something that was at odds with the disgusting air of Luremire. The pale merle buck scooted closer to Kee, looking as dreadful as he and the other banished rabbits.
Banished. Wasn't that enough torment for them to suffer? But no, fate seemed to have different ideas for them. Maybe all that chatter about "spirits" and appeasing them wasn't as far fetched as he originally thought.
"Are we doing this for us? Or for these Giants?" Lightning Bug whispered to the buck he was closest to. Kee.

Two-Toned Mire hopped carefully along. Each paw moving cautiously before the other, she was nervous returning to this place, and the speed of her hops barely matched the others. She was also questioning why with every step she made back towards this horrible place. She remained silent amongst the talking, fearful that adding any more voices to those already speaking that they would become noticed, and in the end ambushed. Two-Toned didn't dare to think about what would happen then. The giants would be good cover, for a while, and maybe as a good distraction. Yet, that didn't mean that they were completely safe here. She never felt safe here. WC: 110 TWC: 110

Hawberry was getting ancy. They'd trekked and they'd trekked and now they were in this weird too hot place. And everything was wet. And sort of smelled like it was rotting. Surely these strange rabbits were a bit delusional. "Well I can see why you wouldn't want to spend too much time here. ... Sorta smelly and wet. A chap can do much better than this!" His attempt to lighten to mood was perhaps a little ... misplaced. He hadn't regulated his voice very carefully and it seemed to echo around the swampy area.

Marshcress glanced around the group of followers and they ventured deeper into this fetid place. Some of them were complaining about the heat, how wet it was, how it smelled. He smirked. Those were all just features. Benefits even. He'd been out in the darkness in the winter, and they'd nearly starved. Here in Luremire, it was never like that. There were always shoots. Snow was unheard of. Navigating around a particularly deep pool he pondered their questions. "You live in the darkness, that makes you giants." He said this resolutely. Everything that lived in the darkness was either a monster or a giant. It made him a little uncomfortable to consider that he was of a similar size to these other giants. ... Perhaps that was why the elders had banished them. Were they also giants??? No, that couldn't be it. Having made it around one pool he was now confronted with a huge pool they couldn't skirt around. The edges looked to be deep, deep muck. Luckily a series of downed logs stretch across it. He hopped forward, managing the first bit easily. He paused on a particularly slippery bit of wood he was trying to navigate. He inched across the perilous slimy log and then turned back to the group. "Be extra careful crossing this pool. The log is slick!" Quote: Roll 1d20! Roll of 10+ make it over the slippery log. Rolls of 5-9 have a struggle staying on the log. Rolls of 1-4 slip off the log! Catkin had kept silent as they traveled. He certainly wanted to know the answers to some of the questions, like why the swamp rabbits kept calling them giants, but he could wait for the answers. And complaining certainly didn't help anything. They'd get where they were going eventually, and maybe get more answers then. Eventually they came to a pool that looked too big to get around. Their guide started crossing a big log, which looked a bit tricky to cross. Well, if it was the only way...Catkin hopped up onto the log too, then carefully stepped across it, trying to keep his footing. ------- Soot Scatter had been on edge the whole time they were in the Darkness, and was glad to return to the safety of the swamp. It seemed beyond hope that the Elders would accept them back, but the others wanted to try. And it was safer to stay together with the other banished rabbits than to remain in the Darkness, even if going back risked the Elder's displeasure. When they came to a large pool that needed to be crossed, Soot Scatter waited for their to be room on the log, then took her turn at trying to cross it. (First roll for Catkin, second roll for Soot Scatter.) WC: 203

Frisk moseyed along after the group, taking in all the strange new sights and sounds of the swamp. He'd probably have been pestering the strange rabbits about all of it if there wasn't so much. Everywhere he looked a new kind of plant or frog or weird puddle of mud - each time he turned his head a new chirp, ribbit, buzz... His attention wandered back to the group as he heard their guide speak again. They lived in the darkness...? "I don't know, Marsh," He hummed, looking around, "I'd say it's darker here than back home. On account of all the trees and muck and the like."Frisk kicked some mud from his hind leg as if to emphasize his point. He'd be brown all over if they didn't find dryer land at some point. The log would surely be a welcome relief. He grinned at the sight, eyes alight - a challenge! He leapt up and began inching after the Marshcress, taking some extra effort to rub some mud off along the way.

Careful paws reached the log. Her attention seemed elsewhere as she approached, still expecting something to jump out at them. Two-Toned waited for a couple of giants to cross before she made her own attempt at the log. One paw carefully placed in front of the other she crossed, as one false move could mean dropping into the pool below. WC: 60 TWC: 170

Soot followed behind the large group of rabbits that all decided to go to Luremire. He split off with those wanting to check out North Luremire and he kept close to the rear, listening to everyone's first impressions of the place. He kept a mental note of the most used descriptive words: dark, damp, hot, humid, smelly. Well, this place certainly was all those things. But it was also quite interesting, mysterious, intriguing and full of interesting new plants. Sure it was smelly but it was fun to try to separate the different scents lounging around in the thick air. Soot would still admit how uncomfortable he was in his own skin with the thick hot air. He just wished he could slip out of his fur and fan himself with a cool breeze. Discomfort was just part of being an adventurer in a new land. Soot's ears perked up as the leading rabbit, Marshcress, talked to them about a log crossing and the potential to fall into the water. Soot pondered how bad it would be to fall into the water here. Before he knew it, it was his turn to cross the log. WC: 195

The log is slick with something. Slime? Wet moss? Rot? It was a mystery. Try as he might, Soot just could not stay on that log. Into the water he went with a mighty splash!
Heavenly Snow Soot has slipped off of the log!!! It is up to you just how serious this is. He can manage to scramble back up, he can try to get help, or he can slip under the surface!

Kee glanced briefly at Lightning Bug when he spoke. He tossed a wary look behind him toward the group of giants that followed them before he answered decisively, "For the giants. Definitely for them. There's nothing left here for us and they just don't get that." He shook his head. Fools, all of them! One of the giants had spoken particularly loudly and the merle buck flinched. Was that guy *trying* to get them caught?! Kee had barely a moment to shoot the loud mouth a glare before the group happened upon an exceptionally large pool, one too big to simply skirt around. Looks like they would have to cross using the fallen logs. It would be risky, and Kee didn't like it, but it was either that or get left behind and he certainly wasn't going to have that. So across the logs he went. 146 words 332 total

Marshcress sucked in a deep breath as he watched the other rabbit slip. He scrambled back towards the log, trying to see if there was something he could do. He stretched a paw out to Soot, seeing if he could help. You certainly didn't want to land yourself in one of these pools. With his paw outstreched he whipped his head around, and hissed. "Help! We must get Soot out of the water!"
