Over head the storm still raged, soaking everything. Every now and then the night was lit up with a flash from the lightning. A teeny tiny tunnel in the grass lead away from the smoldering tree and into the vastness of the Dales. Could this have been where the kits went? At night the sea of grass almost seemed to be endless ...

Justice knew that the dales were filled with grasses as tall as can be. However; as soon as she stepped into the dense growth of plants, they seemed to envelop her in a way that she never expected. The sun was no longer out, making sight more difficult--especially since the sky was still crying it's big sloppy tears. Was the sky crying for the kids as well? She hoped not.
"Where'd you scramble off to, you little rascals." Justice tutted as she followed the trail, hobbling and making her slow way through the brush. One of them has to be nearby. The tree falling wasn't too long ago was it? She didn't think so. Then again, she could be wrong.

Koi wasn't sure what to make of this new doe other than she was intimidating and not to be messed with. He wasn't sure if she knew what she was doing. Honestly; he would rather be the one to lead the front since she was injured. But was he going to speak up? No. He was pretty sure the doe would bite him for it if he did, or if he did try to help her out. He didn't want to be bitten! Or worse...eaten. Did buns eat other buns? He wouldn't put it past anyone. Koi shuddered, slowing in his step and making sure he was at least one hop away from her.
it was best not to take any chances. He was an optimistic buck, but he wasn't one that was going to foolishly believe everything.
As he backed up tho, he stepped on quite a pointy rock. "Ye-ouch!" He leaped into the air and towards the side. Man, he had to be careful of where he was going! Even if the grass covered everything, he didn't have eyes in the back of his head!
OOC: Koi is up for any interaction!

Asher followed behind Justice, peering ahead as much as he could around the doe as they made their way through the tunnel. "They're bound to be here somewhere..." He said more to himself than to Justice, frowning a little. "Poor kits must be scared out of their minds. The lights in the sky are bad enough, nevermind the noise..." He huffed a little. "Dale grass can be confusing for us who live here, nevermind a newborn." Those poor kits.
Asher's ears stayed upright and perked, trying to listen for anything that might be more than the claps of thunder above or the rustling sound of Justice ahead and Hoarfrost behind. Try as he might, he couldn't make out a sound, and as the night drew on, it would only get darker.
The grass was scary enough on its own. It didn't need the help of the storm, lost kits, an injured doe, and the encroaching darkness.
WC: 157
Hoarfrost trailed after Asher into the grass, happy to give himself some buffer room between the young buck and the stoic doe so he could think. They were looking for lost kits now, in the maze of the Dale grasses. "Don't go too far ahead." He called ahead to Justice, snorting under his breath. "The grass is an endless place, older rabbits than you've been lost in here and never come out!"
The yelp of pain made Hoarfrost freeze for a split second, and he fumed a little, rounding to face the buck who'd gone and stepped on a rock. "Are you alright?" He asked gruffly, squinting at him. "We've already got one injured, don't need to add more to that list when we're rootin' around in the dark."

Justice's keen eyes couldn't miss the tuft of chocolate hair and teeny foot print in the mud where the tiny tunnel merged into one of the larger tunnels. Clearly at least one kit had scooted off this way.

Justice scrutinized each blade of grass that they passed. It was difficult, tough work. And totally the reason why she was moving slow in the grass. Not because they currently had a limp from the branch that had fallen on them from the tree that had fallen. "They better be around here somewhere." she snorted, before her scrutinizing gaze fell on the dark grey bun. She wasn't sure she could trust him....
But what monster got concerned over kits? A weird one, probably. No matter.
"We'll find them soon." She'd find them soon, rather. The doe wasn't about to trust the buck to watch over little ones. Not on her watch. "You live in the dale?" She raised an ear in question, curious. Maybe the sky had been angry at this bun for doing something to his home. She'd have to investigate it later.
Her keen eye moved back to the grass, and stepped forward, moving a few blades of grass to the side only to catch something foreign on the ground. "I found a track!" she shouted over her shoulder. "And a bit of hair." She carefully lifted it up in her teeth. She couldn't lose this bit of evidence!

The words that the white buck claimed might have gone unnoticed by Justice, too focused on the task at hand. But it didn't get unheard from Koi. The happy go lucky buck trembled at the thought. "L-L-Lost?!" Him? In the grass? It was dense...thick...but surely, every bunny came out alive right? Of course. No buns who ate other buns here. No need to worry. He had gotten lost plenty of times and made it out alive!
"It's alright, we'll be just fine! That and we're following the little bun's trail!" he enthused, laughing a bit too high pitched to be confident in his own words. "We'll find the kits, and we'll get out of here in no time."
If only he could stop from stepping on pointy things!
"I'm fine, haha!" His laughter became more high pitched, more nervous. "No need to worry--wait. Someone's injured?" Had he been right about the brown colored doe this whole time?! But she said that she wasn't injured!
Then again, he wanted to think that she didn't eat their kind. Yet at her exclamation, he turned...and saw the tuft of hair in her mouth. Eyes wide, he looked towards the sides where there weren't buns. "Maybe we will get eaten alive." He gulped. He was too young to die!

Rowan hurried after the little group into the grassy tunnel. He was probably sticking his nose where it didn't belong, but he felt like something was compelling him onward. Concern? Obligation? A lack of better things to do? Some obscure mixture of all three? No matter, he was here now, might as well see the mission through. He was poking around the grass in search when he heard the chocolate coloured doe call out that she'd found another clue. More tracks and a bit of fur. So at least one kit had certainly gone off this way. A good sign! So he hopped closer toward her and continued the search. Asher nodded in kind to Justice, snorting under his breath. “They have to be, but it’s not going to be easy to find them.” He agreed, looking through the grass beyond them to try and see their path ahead. “Are you sure you’re alright?” He asked in a lower voice, glancing back to the other two with a soft snort. “It’s wet and the grass can be slick if you’re not careful.”
“I do. Well, sort of. Our burrows, mine and Hoarfrost — that’s his name, by the way, not that he’ll ever tell you himself, he’s a bit of a grump — and Stormborn, we all live in burrows in the Poppy Hills, right on the edge. Easier to find food in the Dales than the Hills.” He grinned a little, glancing around. “But even me, I don’t like this. It feels… off, somehow. The Dales are always a bit, well, strange at night if you’re not used to it. This just makes everything feel much, much worse—“
Asher’s little rant was cut off as Justice’s eyes spotted something, and he followed behind her closely, blinking at the little tuft of fur in her mouth. “Brown.” He squinted, and hummed a little. “That’ll make finding the thing easy, won’t it.” He looked at the tracks, moving around her to follow after it. “Hopefully these don’t get flushed out somewhere before we find the poor thing!”
WC: 236
“Yeah, lost.” Hoarfrost snorted at the skittish buck, peering at him and narrowing his eyes a bit. “Stay on the trail and stay behind the other two, you’ll be fine.” He added gruffly, barely keeping the growl under tone in control. “I’m right behind ya, I’ll notice if anyone ups and disappears into the grass like an idiot.”
“Don’t know whether we’ll be out of here soon, but we’ll find the kits.” One way or another. Hoarfrost wasn’t so optimistic to think they’d find the kit in one piece, but hey, who knew. Maybe they’d get lucky. “Be out of here sooner if you don’t go and do something stupid like hurt yourself.” He added pointedly.
“Tree fell on her back there.“ Hoarfrost saw no problem in sharing Justice’s injury with the group, since it’d no doubt impact their ability to move at a lightning pace. Facts were facts. She might still be moving, she might not be dead, but a tree had fallen on the doe. “She’ll be fine.”
Hoarfrost’s ears snapped up towards Justice at the exclamation of a clue, and he snorted a bit at the buck’s overreaction, reaching with one paw to push him ahead. “Nothing’s going to eat you out here, buck. Too many of us in a group, and at least one of us knows how to fight.” He didn’t plan on placing his safety in the paws of the others, but at least he could kick with the best of them even at his age.

Asher noticed the maze ahead divided. One path went to the right, one to the left. It was clear that the kit had gone down one path ... But which one? A flash of lightning lit the sky above, but it was several moments before the following boom. ... Perhaps the explorers wouldn't be able to count on the lightning to light the maze ...

Floodwater slipped into the tall grasses, following both the teeny tunnel and the path of broken grass created by other rabbits on the search for the kits. She grumbled as she picked her way through - her attempts to search around the outskirts of the tree met with little success, and the longer she had searched the more useless she had felt. So now she was here, drawn in by the occasional shout from the search party heard on the wind, hopefully following a fresher lead.
First goal: Find where the search party ended up and look for clues along the way. Without getting lost. Despite it being very dark. ...Somehow.

It took a bit longer than Floodwater had expected for her to run into another rabbit - though the fact she had wandered off the trail, lost in the sea of grass, and gotten her paws stuck in mud more than once certainly hadn't helped. For a moment, she was worried she would need to be rescued. But a lull in the rain allowed her to hear a conversation not far from here - and from quite a few rabbits, from the sound of it! She hopped onward, straining to hear them over the rain and rustle of grass.
"Hello?" Floodwater called out, not wanting to spook the group by leaping out at them without warning, "Are you lot looking for kits? I haven't found any - not yet, anyway - but I'd like to help!"

Asher followed the trail along the tunnel path in the grass, glancing back every so often to make sure that Justice, Hoarfrost, and Coy Koi were behind him. It seemed there were other rabbits trailing along, too, but they were far enough back that he didn’t recognize who they were. Shouting back to introduce himself seemed like a not intelligent idea, so Asher let it go. If it were important, they’d speak up, he hoped…
“How long could the kits have been missing if they’d gone this far?” He asked over his shoulder, frowning deeply as he continued on. Soon, though, the maze divided into two neat paths. He stopped with a sigh, looking back and forth, and grimaced a little. “Looks like we’ll need to split up if we want to take any chance of finding the kit tonight.” He lifted his head to the bright light above as it flashed, but it seemed to take ages for the thunder to accompany it…
“And we’ll be going blind.” Perfect. As he debated, he spun back suddenly, smiling brightly. “Okay!” He said loudly enough for the two rabbits trailing behind Hoarfrost to hear. “We’ll have to split up! I’m taking the left. Anyone who wants to come with me is welcome, but I recommend we stay in groups at least for safety.” Who knew what was lurking among the grass in the rain, and Asher didn’t want to take a risk of someone else getting lost, too…
WC: 247
Hoarfrost caught up to Justice and Asher soon enough once they’d arrived at the fork in the road, and made a face at it, sighing under his breath. Damn the buck and damn the rest of them. It was dark, and cold, and some small part of him felt pity for the kit but more than a little ire for the mother who’d gone and lost the wee things. They were going to get themselves lost in the darkness as it was trying to find the kits, or injured, or worse.
“Fine.” Hoarfrost said gruffly, shuffling past Coy Koi and Justice to take the right path. “I’ll go right. Come with me or not, I’ve no concern about what lies in these grasses.” The old rabbit had seen a great many things, and he wasn’t going to be scared of some damned phantom in the grass. “If you come with me, keep up. I’d like to find this missing kit and go home sometime before dawn rises, if we’re lucky.”
The gruff rabbit truly hoped no one would follow him, though he knew Asher would pitch a fit and demand someone go with him for his own safety. He looked to Asher, grimacing a little, and swatted at him with one paw. “Stay sharp on that path.” He warned pointedly. “Don’t make any stupid mistakes, and don’t make me come runnin’ for you.” With that warning-promise-plea made, Hoarfrost began his trek down the right side of the maze, keeping his head low to the ground so he could spot any trail or clue as he went.

Not going to be easy to find them? Justice snorted and started hobbling faster as she looked for the potential kits within the grass. "Just watch me." She'd show him. What did that buck know? She had luck of being a doe. There had to be something motherly somewhere in her. It was only in her nature. So it was in her favor to find them. A piece of peach. "I know what I'm doing." He didn't need him caring about her. Wait. Her eyes went towards Asher. "Are you flirting with me?" Is that what this was? Is that why he was so suspicious? He was nice looking.
But that wasn't the point. She looked away, focused on her search. Politely, she nodded along to what Asher was saying. So he lived close to here for food. Cool. Interesting. Made sense. She wasn't about to join his burrow but it was a neat tidbit she'd have to save for future investigation.
Justice carefully placed the bit of kit fur on one side of her cheek, careful not to swallow it as she mulled over his words and hobbled on after him. There was still one thing that stuck, one thing that she hadn't asked. "What about it is weird." The doe finally asked, after a long bout of silence. The buck lived here, it was a part of his food gathering area. Even though he was suspicious, she couldn't help but try and find out why he felt the way he did. Maybe something would pop out as she interrogated him further.
"The kits couldn't have gone that far. Their little bodies aren't that fast...or energetic." Justice trailed off, unsure of herself. She hadn't been looking where she was walking though and accidentally ran up against Asher. She let out a little oomph before peering over his shoulder. Two tracks. "So there must be two of them." She nodded to herself and looked over to Hoarfrost.
Who should she go with?
Justice's nose twitched before slowly making her way towards Asher's side. She felt like she could trust the white buck. the other one though...much too suspicious. Someone had to watch him.
