Character's Involved: Shinji Ketsueki Kagerou Uchiha
"Mending the Wounds" Shortly after being introduced to Leia, Shinji returned to the heart of Arashigakure in order to assist in the clean up effort. To start, he rushed to the aid of the medical corps to work on cleaning and dressing some of the injuries of the wounded to buy them time for the medics to tend to the more serious injuries without having to worry about any fatal detriments to the lesser casualties. Among those Shinji assisted on, one man passed away. His final words were a gift to the boy; a sword passed down from his father to him. The man didn't have any children of his own, and saw Shinji as the only remaining chance of continuing the legacy.
While some may find this incident to be a tearful trade of a mans life, Shinji took the death of this shinobi to heart. That day had already been stressful enough. Being trapped in a room with the most imposing woman he had ever met, and witnessing a close-up evisceration of her body as a last ditch effort to end the war, had left his mind in a fragile state. The fractures had been slightly repaired during his interaction with Leia; however, the death of this one man, a seemingly insignificant life in the grand scheme of the world, reinstated those cracks and proceeded to push him over the edge. Instead of slight damage, his entire mentality collapsed under the weight of all he had witnessed in such a small amount of time.
After the remaining wounded had been either patched up or shipped to the hospital for further examination, Shinji rested on a nearby bench, absorbing and processing the days events and deciding on his next course of action. He had pulled aside the woman he recognized as as the hospital's lead psychiatrist to discuss with and find a way to cope with all of the bloodshed.

❝Persevere. No matter what comes your way, you have to overcome it.❞ ❖ ▬▬ ❖ ▬▬ ⌈Arashigakure Genin⌉ ▬▬ ❖ ▬▬ ❖
When it comes to war, it is often overlooked that the aftermath is just as gruesome as the battles themselves. Soldiers get wounded, some killed. The casualties pile up as time drags on, and the ones left to deal with the cleanup are the doctors and nurses of the villages involved. The time they spend on one soldier could impact the survival of another, and more bodies could pile up from nothing more than an inability to split oneself into multiple entities. In the Shinobi world, that wasn’t too common, as clones could be made, but even so, there are oversights...
After having spent some time with a woman known as Leia, Shinji had decided he should return to the village and assist in however they may need. The most prominent way, and the only way he could think to go about this at the moment, was to use the comparatively little medical knowledge he did have to dress and clean wounds to give the doctors, nurses, and medics more time so they wouldn’t feel as pressured to rush. He didn’t get very far. A few stitches on some, setting broken bones for others. However, one particular shinobi opted to not be treated. Despite Shinji’s efforts to keep the man alive, he knew he was going to die. There was a hole in his abdomen, and Shinji didn’t have the skills to deal with that. Before he died, the man gave Shinji a weapon. One that came from the long line of warriors, passed down from father to son. Shinji was of no relation to this man, but he didn’t have any children to leave it with. Shinji was the last chance he would get to pass on the legacy.
After the remaining wounded had been seen to, with more serious cases being rushed to the hospital for further healing, Shinji’s mind had returned to the broken lump of emptiness that it had been reduced to after witnessing Kagami’s death. Though, this time, it was much deeper. The events of the day had built up and each new set of bad news pummeled his sanity until it threatened to jump ship entirely. His eyes were downcast, unwilling or unable to look at the bloodstains on his clothing or the surrounding area; but, his hands were equally stained, and his gaze was focused intently on them. Shinji’s chest felt hot with turbulent emotions that he couldn’t let out. The last shred of strength he had left was spent in a frantic turning of the head. He was searching for someone he had caught a glimpse of almost an hour ago. He saw her, not too far away, but far enough that he had to raise his voice to get her attention.
”Hey!” He called to her, hoping that the green haired woman would realize that she was being addressed, and not one of the other medics trickling out of the area. ”You work in the hospital right? The psychiatrist?” Shinji’s tone was blunt. Possibly even mistakable as rude. He couldn’t muster the finesse it would take to control his vocal alignment right now.

The narrative is considered completed once the parties part ways for another day. Bells heralded the green-haired figures comings and goings as she left one area of the hospital for the next. When Shinji called out for her, the bells also rang when she briefly turned her head, along with a few others, to scan the surroundings for whoever had blurted out. One of the other medical personnel walking besides her also caught sight of the boy and, looking a little puzzled, raised her finger to point to herself. Evidently, she was also a psychiatrist. This other female doctor looked ready to walk over to see what was up, inclining her head to tell Kagerou something before leaving. Kagerou, however, shook her head, holding her in place with a hand and said a few things that caused the other woman to glance over and mouth an "oh" in agreement.
The two of them turned around and left Shinji.
Maybe if Shinji paid attention to his surroundings, he would also notice that the sound of bells didn't only come in one direction. There was the Kagerou in front. Then, just when all seemed lost, another Kagerou would tap his shoulder from behind, who's approach had also been announced by the ringing of the bells upon her wrist. "Generally," the older woman gave a gentle smile as she teased, "There are several people who work in the hospital that are psychiatrists and vice versa. However, if you don't mind me, then perhaps I could help?". An unsung melody appeared to lay dormant beneath the soft cadence of her words and her genuine smile masked any exhaustion she might have been feeling.
It was always the case that Kagerou only cared about personal bubbles for the sake of others. Thus, she seemed perfectly at ease observing Shinji's expressions reactions in minute detail, her face leaning over only a few inches away from his. What were his eyes saying? The set of his lips? The twitch of his nose? What did the tension, or lack thereof, in his muscles tell her? These were all the regular questions Kagerou asked herself as she looked over his details, from black hair to pallid skin to tired eyes to bloodstained clothes and hands. [19 sentences]

Shinji jumped at the tap on his shoulder. The ringing of bells wasn't something that he particularly fixated on; they were classified as unimportant, and he chose to block them out as much as he could. Anything more than what was absolutely necessary these last few hours would only serve to give him a headache. The sudden unknown physical contact broke him from whatever trance he may have put himself in. He turned looked at her, which resulted in an immediate one-eighty when he realized that she had also been in front of him. Momentary confusion melted away as quick as it had set in. Clones. Right. They could do that. Clones would be a great asset at a hospital, seeing as being in two places at once in a medical setting only increased the amount of patients being assisted at a time.
Shinji turned back to look at the green haired woman, and leaned away slightly with widened eyes. The last thing he would have expected was a woman's face resting so close to his own. Though, it could have been her way of observing his emotions through facial queues. After all, the closer you were to someone, the easier it is to see the twitches and shifts in muscles that can be overlooked from farther distances. His own eyes peered into hers, brow furrowed with concern at the breach of space. He slowly sat back up before scanning her up and down, taking in the details of this woman. Her wrist, specifically, caught his intrigue.
"Uh.... Hi," Shinji began with clear reservations. He had called for her to ask her opinion on how a shinobi should deal with loss, but suddenly he wasn't sure that was a great idea anymore. "What's with the bells?" The boy didn't directly answer her proposition; though, hidden beneath his question was a tone similar to what someone may use when pleading. His eyes shot back from looking at her wrist to being locked into a staring contest with the green haired doctor.

The underlying pleading tone didn't really seem to fit with the question. This child was hiding something. He was also not comfortable with the close proximity of Kagerou's face. As soon as this detail about distance was noticed, Kagerou moved her head back, keeping the time this boy felt discomfort to a minimum.
Moving around the chair Shinji had sat himself in, Kagerou took a seat on a nearby couch. The staring contest, she gladly accepted. Eyes locked onto the boy's upon sensing his gaze. She observed his red hues with her own red gaze. There was a certain determination or mental strength required to lock eyes, but she could also see the exhaustion in the dull irises. Why would he look so directly into her? Was he also testing her? Or simply attempting to seek answers? Casual curiosities Kagerou had, these were, and she mildly wondered about them as she smiled at the boy.
"These bells are my signature feature. I like them ,the sounds they make and how they look," Kagerou answered before Shinji had to wait for too long, "They also make it easy to find me." Following that, she fell silent.
Though she did not think this was the real question Shinji wished to ask, he was looking directly at her as if to make a statement. This, alone, let her know that the chances of Shinji bringing up the real question on his own were already higher than normal. She would wait, and let him tell her at his own pace. [18 sentences]

❝Persevere. No matter what comes your way, you have to overcome it.❞ ❖ ▬▬ ❖ ▬▬ ⌈Arashigakure Genin⌉ ▬▬ ❖ ▬▬ ❖
Having felt that the prolonged eye contact was developing a thick layer of awkwardness in the air, Shinji blinked; his eyes using that fraction of a second of darkness to look away and find anything else to focus on. Once again his attention was drawn to the bells. ’A signature feature, huh? Well, they do stand out,’ the thought drowned in his mind by the fluctuating turmoil that his emotions were in. His face may have revealed a small portion of the darkness plaguing him from the day, but an ocean of bad feelings washed over him, pulling him deeper by an unseen current. The destination it was sending him was a cage, far below the surface, threatening to lock him away and remove any shred of hope he may have of maintaining his own personality. The replacement for which would be catastrophic. Dark, withdrawn, self-destructive. The kind of mentality that dropped one to rock bottom and chained them there for eternity.
The boy’s red eyes softened when they fixated on the bells. A thin veil of pain glazed over them. The internal battle he had been fighting all day was coming to a close, but the victor was unclear. His desire to be able to protect the village was at odds with the failure he had been faced with. On one hand, he knew that he was young with potential to grow, but on the other he was doubting whether he would be able to fulfill that potential. One hand moved to scratch the back of the other, ridding himself of some non-existent itch, and continuing to scratch away at his skin. He only stopped when he noticed the stinging sensation of an epidermal layer that wasn’t ready for the outside world. He stopped itching and covered the newly exposed tissue from the green-haired woman’s sight.
The boy removed his jacket and set it next to him, the white sleeveless underneath was ruined, the crimson color had already set into the fibers. ”So.. I guess what I wanted to ask you was-” Shinji began, pausing with a sigh and pulling his shoulders to his ears. Opening the floodgates to his mind was an uncomfortable experience. ”How do you deal with so much chaos and death?” A slight crack in his voice. Not quite threatening tears, but enough to convey just how deep this issue ran in his thoughts. As painful as it may be for a Ketsueki clans-man to reach out for help from someone outside of their lineage, Shinji’s worried desperation to not fall victim to darkness heavily outweight the convictions they may have.

Title: Bonds Information: Call it friendship, call it camaraderie, call it a legal obligation. The nurturing of relationships is one of the most fruitful types of narrative. Helping a friend out in a kitchen, helping keep their business alive, being there for them after a bad break up, building new friendships...building new rivals...building new nemesis's. Confronting those nemesis's and exchanging conflicting beliefs in fierce wholehearted heated debate and getting to know the other through their opposition on a new level. Every post made strengthening an existing relationship with an rpc, rewards Ac equal to one's body rank plus [1], maximum . Those interacted with may also be considered to be running this narrative with you albeit their posts are separate from your own. The narrative is considered completed once the parties part ways for another day. Shinji was several hundred years too early to be hiding anything from Kagerou. The boy looked for the head of the psychiatry department. Kagerou wasn't sure where he got this notion that he could hide how he had scratched so hard his skin had begun to bleed. Well, maybe if Kagerou was the head of a normal psychiatry department. Unfortunately, Arashigakure's hospital was anything but ordinary. It was filled to the brim with extraordinary talents. This was not just the shinobi and kunoichi who supplemented their medical knowledge with their chakra abilities. In fact, it didn't include them at all. Each field had civilian geniuses who didn't have a shred of ninjutsu or genjutsu ability, brought in from three different villages, each with a long history of heavy reliance on hospitals to treat their never-ending wounded.
That was why she watched with intent attention everything that went through Shinji's eyes. As the darkness that threatened to overwhelm and the pain numbed the spark in his red eyes, Kagerou's scarlet ones continued to shine as they watched. She noticed and waited as Shinji scratched his skin to a bright red shade. The site of blood on his shirt did not bother her, and she was overall more interested in the stress that collected in wrinkles above his eyes and tensed muscles in his jaw. The stress of opening up when one was so used to keeping it bottled up.
Bells rung. Gently, at first, when Kagerou's hands lifted gracefully, at first. Then they rung harsh and loud when her hands came into contact with Shinji's cheeks, impacting them. Not too hard, but definitely out of the blue, Kagerou had slapped her hands over Shinji's cheeks. She did not remove her hands after the slap. Instead, she held them in place, and looking into Shinji's eyes, insisted with a smile full of cheer, "Everything will be daijoubu." Her voice rang with a little more melody than usual, making her sentence sound like it was only a small difference away from taking flight as a song. If the slang derived from a foreign language didn't make it obvious enough, it was a happy way of speaking, and while it didn't mesh with the serious, depressing episode Shinji was going through, that was exactly why Kagerou had spoken so differently from expectation. This child, before going any further into his depression, needed to be shocked a little to remain afloat. Well, and perhaps Kagerou was being a little selfish. She really didn't like seeing the look that crossed Shinji's face.
The bells rung softly once more when Kagerou slowly lowered her hands from Shinji's cheeks. The were withdrawn to rest primly in her lap. "To each their own," Kagerou spoke in a more appropriate, contemplative tone as she went around to answer the question Shinji had given her, "My way of dealing with chaos and death, I know won't work for you, but if you want some advice... Talking like this helps. Don't underestimate the power of words. If you can find someone who you can trust and relax with, you'll find yourself surprised by how much lighter the load feels once you've said everything. Sometimes, you'll find answers you had lost in your thoughts."
Such was the best advice Kagerou felt to give. The best general advice, that is. However, she understood that this might not be what Shinji was looking for.
Her eyes softened and her smile grew smaller. In a quieter voice, she added, "But if what you were looking for was a more direct answer... No matter how dark, I remember there is always a light somewhere. This chaos and death wasn't without cause. Does it make this fair to those who have lost something? No. Does it make people angry? Yes, but if you fall to that anger, to those dark emotions, then you give up. You choose to instigate the cycle, either that or turn a blind eye to the pain in the future. Personally, that is the last thing I want to do, so no matter how tough it is, I keep on diving in headfirst. It's hard to accept that not everyone can be saved... and in fact, I don't think I would ever accept it, except... After a certain point, the burden of guilt will weigh you down until you stagnate, and you have to make a choice. Spend the rest of your life making amends when you have done your best and when it won't change anything? Or accept that you need to move forwards, for those who remain on this side?". Like Kagerou had warned earlier, not everyone was the same, and her methods were not necessarily compatible with Shinji's. She had, after all, always been strangely calm and methodical while also easily letting go of burdens from the past even as she held the same past close to hurt. Trained to be a kunoichi from birth and with none of the sugar coating about what happened to someone after death, she had her entire life to prepare and expect.
Shinji could be different. No, Shinji was likely different, like most normal people, and Kagerou smiled at him, welcoming him to vent with anything he wanted to say. [56 sentences](OOC: Your rp is good. I'm not really sure what to critique here. I've got a pretty wide strike zone, and I don't see you making any glaring mistakes.)

HShinji waited for her response, the suspense only deepening his worry. The last thing he expected to happen was a jingle of bells in his ears, followed by a swift smack to his cheeks. He stared at her in stunned disbelief. When she said everything was going to be okay, his eyes betrayed his mild disappointment. He knew things would be okay. That’s how the world was; even if you felt as if the ground was falling away from your feet, everyone keeps moving. People would rebuild, new generations would be born, and over time the Kogarashi War would be long forgotten if not for history books. The boy also knew that she meant that in a personal sense, rather than general. She was telling him that he would be fine.
Shinji sure didn’t feel like he would be fine. The world in his head was spinning. A whirlpool of dark thoughts swirled around and scratched at the walls that contained them. For whatever it may be worth, it did pick his spirits up a little. He had been caught by the idea that things were never going to improve for him, but just one person giving him that statement of hope was at least a little weight off his shoulders. People differed in the way that they chose to do things. He understood why this woman wasn’t able to give a more direct answer to his question. That would have required that they thought and felt the exact same and had been through the same situations. An impossibility in a world where individuality was important.
When she continued her response, his brow furrowed again. This time it was less from his own stress-filled mind, and more with curiosity as to why her smile had dimmed slightly. Shinji determined that what she was saying was more personal in nature than what she had given before. A chord that played from home. A fitting metaphor for someone who’s manner of speaking was closer to song than speech. He waited until she finished and slowly nodded his head. She had a point. The law of nature was kill or be killed, and the Shinobi world often deferred to natural law when it came to war. Most soldiers accepted that their actions were necessary and moved on from them. The death of the enemy is essential to the continued survival of the nation. It isn’t entirely wrong, but it is still flawed. It isn’t farfetched to assume that everyone could get along. Such is the naïve idealism of a child.
”What if you can’t see that light?” Shinji kept his question simple, referring to the bright spot through the darkness the green haired woman had mentioned. The direct wording held many hidden facets. From where he was sitting, there was only darkness. He couldn’t see any positive aspects of the war, of all the death and suffering it brought. The narrative is considered completed once the parties part ways for another day. "I think... when you can't see the light, the best way to find it again is to find someone who can," Kagerou spoke fondly, not from her own experiences but her memories of her mother and father; however, it didn't always need to be a love, "It could be a friend, perhaps even a fated meeting with a stranger, or maybe just your pet."
Of course, however. Sometimes, such a companion could not be found. Even when all the help is offered, it might not be enough. In such a situation, Kagerou didn't know what to do. She could imagine the possibility, but she had never been in a place so dark that she couldn't see the light. To this dilemma, she did not have an answer. She could be honest and bring it up, but it wouldn't serve a purpose other than depressing the lost child even further. Considering it in such a light, she held such a possibility back from leaving her mouth.
Instead, she addressed her own solution to the question behind the question. "What if you can't see that light?" hadn't merely been a question of what could be done to see the light. She could tell, Shinji had asked because, right now, he wasn't able to see the light. What he needed was someone to help him now, not to be told he should look for someone else.
Watching intently with a gentle smile, Kagerou made a guess and swung with it. Her tone controlled and her voice calm, she spoke of herself so she would embarrass her conversation partner, "As for me... I guess I don't really have anyone to talk to about this sort of stuff, so I just walk myself through finding my own light, and I've found that there actually is light everywhere. Small lights, but significant lights. For instance, this war... To justify a war is a dangerous thing, in my opinion. No matter what it is for and who it is against, war is a terrible thing. If I simply focus on the war, I'm afraid I would soon grow numb, so instead, I focus on the individuals in the war. I keep myself thinking about everyone who had to suffer through the war, and everyone who remains strong through it. I think about the people who lost their lives, and I like to believe that they did not want their loved ones to continue to suffer for their sake. War is dangerous. People can't be perfect. It is folly to believe in them. However, there is always something to smile about in a person. Think back, on everyone you helped. You were their light as you helped save their lives. In a way, could you perhaps say that they were also your light? War happens because of human nature. It cannot be stopped. However, that is no reason to simply give up."
She had not, for even a moment, swayed her gaze or smile from Shinji's face. Right now, she tilted her head to the side. She had said a lot, but she still said a little more, asking, "What do you think? Did that help? If it didn't, I could introduce you to a lot of other lights?". Always, there was something to smile about somewhere. [42 sentences]

❝Persevere. No matter what comes your way, you have to overcome it.❞ ❖ ▬▬ ❖ ▬▬ ⌈Arashigakure Genin⌉ ▬▬ ❖ ▬▬ ❖
Finding someone who could see the light was easier said than done. Especially for a Ketsueki clansman. From a young age, it was hammered into their heads that connections to other people would only get in the way of their growth. Such a misguided and short-sighted belief is why most of the Ketsueki could be considered outsiders in their own home-village. The elders frowned on any youngling who prefers to reach out and have friendships instead of sticking to their strict code. Perhaps that was why you didn’t see too much of the Saiketsu techniques running around. That being said, Shinji didn’t always feel like he should follow that rule. He just wanted to be taught the basics of the Saiketsu secret techniques, and from there they couldn’t stop him from making friends. From what he had seen, human connection made people stronger, not weaker. Humans were social creatures, after all, and trying to live a lonely and withdrawn life had its own consequences. Arguably, those consequences were worse than the potential pain from building bridges.
He had to give this lady respect. Here he was, talking to her, trying to find ground again; and she informs him she didn’t have anyone to do the same for her. The differences between their mentalities were clearer from that one statement than anything else that had been said previously. It took a level of bliss and confidence that was beyond his wildest imagination to seem so chipper despite being in prime position to see just how hard the aftermath of battles could be. Especially if she was telling the truth. Being able to find light everywhere was a skill. It had to be. A skill Shinji would take years to grasp. For now, baby steps. He took a deep breath. ”Think about the individual, not the whole, basically.” Said with a sigh, the statement was made mostly to himself. A way to cement the idea further into his brain.
Some further thought into her words did get something to click. Even if he had only brought them a few extra minutes at best, and with the exception of the one man who had died on his watch, assisting in saving lives did give him a sense of accomplishment. It may not quite have been joy, but it was something. Maybe that was something he could focus on instead of the lives lost. Thinking about the lives saved instead could potentially act as, at the very least, a counterbalance for the crushing weight of death and destruction. A small smile cracked his expression. Not necessarily a happy one, but more relieved than anything. ”Yeah, uh.. I think that does help, a bit.” Shinji opted to refrain from responding to her offer. The prospect of meeting new people made his heart jump a little, but he couldn’t risk his clan preventing him from learning their secrets. Not yet, at least. [35; 139 total]

The narrative is considered completed once the parties part ways for another day. Kagerou watched the internal struggles play out within Shinji's eyes. She understood. The words she spoke so easily, were in fact hard to live out. They would be harder for Shinji than for her, no doubt. That had always been the case. While others would either be dragged beneath the tumultuous waves of emotions or give themselves to the cold depths of logic, Kagerou had always found it so simple, so easy, to let go and pick up her troubles as she needed. She thrived in attachment, but so rarely felt the pain that connections can bring.
"I'm glad," was all Kagerou could say when she saw Shinji's cracked smiles, which she noticed followed shortly after his adam's apple jumped in excitement only to be quelled when his eyes cast themselves down in self control. He had been partial to her idea of meeting new people, but something stopped him. No trace of fear, so this was more of a personal decision than an outside threat.
Well, whatever the case, Kagerou believed Shinji would find his way through it. She hoped and believed. She quite liked talking to him in these few short moments, after all. She also, however, accepted she barely knew anything about him. It was already good enough that her words had helped him come to his own conclusion, or rather, the start of his own conclusion. The rest was something that couldn't be taught. Perhaps, if they met a few more times, she could help guide him, but that would be it. Only provide the tools. Kagerou may request, even plead, for a direction, but she would not point in it.
Tacitly taking her cue, Kagerou stood up from her seat and gave Shinji's head a brief rub. In her melodic voice, she excused herself, "Then, I'll take my leave. If you ever need help, feel free to wave me down again. Although, please don't be surprised if I don't recognize you today. It'll still be a while before I dispel my clones and refresh myself," and then left. Bells ringing. Green hair swaying. She painted a pretty picture of someone who would easily stand out from a crowd, and yet before he knew it, Shinji would find himself unable to make the head of psychiatry out from everyone else.
