Primary Tension: Melancholy and Determination. Celestina is an otherwise melancholy and artistic sort who enjoys the validation of victory, but is obsessed with validating her childhood dreams and proving herself.
Driven by her personal history--changing it now, since it turns out all her leads were dead.

Character development spirals. With each crime Celestina becomes more unhinged, disassociating from the meek but ambitious teenager she once was dreams of fame and validation. She is mired in anguish, insecurity, and haunted by the betrayal of those supposed to be closest to her.

ELEGANT Celesina’s entire aesthetic is the elegant, graceful, and noble appearance with an air of mystery. She carries herself with the poise of a dancer both on and off the ice. Smooth movements, nimble fingers, and an upstanding demeanor have always helped her appear more charismatic, and she does her best to pass this on to her young charge.

INSTINCTUAL From a young age, Celestina had a strong intuition for what things did, and a melancholy that helped her connect to ghosts. Her mother called it a gift for divination and while she’s no seer, Celestina’s performance in divination seemed to support this. In reality, her intuition is no more finely honed than anyone else’s, but Celestina certainly believes otherwise and trusts her intuitive sense of what people mean or say more than she does reassurances or direct statements.

INSECURE Celestina’s insecurity with herself and her position in life has made her easily jealous at those around her. Self-imagined failures haunt her to this day: she hears the bad in critique, she remembers the negative, and she imagines other people as taunting competitors. Even when she acknowledges her real flaws--such as her ingratitude to her father or disconnect from her husband--she views them as situations to fix, not things to learn from and move on from. Throughout her adolescence, Celestina felt like she was trapped in the shadow of her mother. Her own talent and hard work never seemed to be enough to surpass Iselin, and anything Iselin herself said about different strengths fell on deaf ears. She was jealous of her roommates. Her first romantic relationship was a constant reminder that she herself was insufficient and pathetic. Finally, her own search into her family history has revealed nothing as grand as she’d imagined as a young girl. Even now, she fears Erin will leave or suspect her.

AMBITIOUS Despite her insecurity, Celestina has never dreamed small. She sought the awe and respect people seemed to hold for her mother. As she grew up, that desire fed both her insecurity and her determination and manifested as a straightforward challenge. She has regaled Erin with stories of Iselin's power--some real, some exaggerated or speculated-- and despite their comfortable life in Sisikon as she continues to work on the fruitless task of parsing her ancestors' notes.

GENTLE Although usually overpowered by a sense of paranoia that people are trying to lure her into a trap, Celestina has demonstrated that she can be sweet and compassionate things when she recognizes people are vulnerable. Imagined or real, she feels pity a lot, and knows how to give it as well.

➳❅EARLY CHILDHOOD
Celestina grew up with two facts: First, her mother, Iselin, was an amazingly powerful witch. Second, while her stepfather was a muggle, her birth-father was an incredible wizard as well. Unfettered and strongly independent, Iselin never said much on this birth-father; as a child, Celestina would make up stories that he was some kind of wizarding royalty or celebrity, that that there was some tragic romance between them before her mother settled for a muggle. Her stepfather tried to be supportive, but Aspen's lack of ambition and life as a museum docent was uninspiring compared to the strange people Iselin would occasionally host or the incredible places she would go in a snap. From stories gleaned at small gatherings, Celestina understood that Iselin had been a renowned duelist, potioneer and dancer. Celestina wanted more than anything than to be as incredible, despite Iselin’s own apparent apathy for her past accomplishments. Celestina insisted on going by her mother’s maiden name in wizarding society, pleased with the attention and connection.

Before Hogwarts, Celestina attended a muggle school in the daytime, pursued ice skating--dancing on ice--and archery in the afternoons. Whenever she could, she watched her mother do house chores with a flick of her wand or brew unassumingly powerful potions. If Iselin was visiting elsewhere or unavailable, Celestina would spend the afternoon at her stepfather’s museum, enjoying the art. Celestina’s own magic wasn’t very flashy in its manifestation, but she did have a strong instinct and unique empathy for things recently dead that Iselin identified and explained as a gift for divination.

➳❅SCHOOL YEARS By the time Celestina started at Hogwarts, she realized that going by her mother’s maiden name associated her with expectations of power she wasn’t quite ready for. At school, she hid under the anonymity of her stepfather’s surname but privately made a bold determination to beat her mother’s school record. She found Iselin's seventh year transcript, laden with top marks and achievements, and made it her goal. Despite not being very good instructor, Iselin tutored her in any subject over the breaks, pointing out both strengths and areas of improvement. In her insecurity though, Celestina focused on the negative. Aspen tried offering study techniques and support, but Celestina dismissed these, thinking that he couldn’t possibly know anything as a muggle and not wanting to rely on “tricks” where Iselin had gotten by on pure talent and determination. Despite their encouragement, Celestina considered not being selected as prefect a failure, and when her OWLs came back with three failing grades, she blamed it on simply not being talented enough.

Outside of her studies, Celestina found more promise: she was particularly close to her dorm-mates, Elysia Kieran and Delia Chance, even if she was always jealous of Elysia’s wit and Delia’s sweetness. In their fifth year, Celestina did her best to comfort them when their mothers died in the line of duty by offering comfort in small drawings or plushies. She felt truly bad and treasured her small competition with her own mother that much more. When Della found herself whirlwind romance that summer, though, the jealousy returned. Come fall, Celestina struck up a relationship with a Ravenclaw their year, entranced by his high marks and handsome looks and not recognizing his snide comments as exacerbating her own insecurities.

➳❅POST-GRADUATION
Soon after Celestina started Hogwarts, Iselin received word that her own mother was ill and was asking to see her. Thereafter, Iselin spent most of her time out of the country, but returned every break to reunite with Celestina and Aspen. Following Celestina’s graduation, Iselin and Aspen chose to officially split. Even though she had known that theirs had been a marriage of convenience and mutual respect rather than passion, Celestina took it harder than either of them. She maintained occasional letters with her mother but was hesitant to visit before she felt worthy. Rather than return to her stepfather’s house, she moved in with her boyfriend. Six months later, wands raised and tensions high, Celestina finally just left.

With Elysia playing Quidditch in the United States and Delia happily married, Celestina turned to Elysia’s older brother for comfort. Martin offered her not only a place to stay after her breakup but also comfort and much-craved attention. She finally stopped moping, reconciled with her stepfather, and picked up hobbies again to build up her self-worth. Sometime along the way, Celestina and Martin's relationship shifted from friends to something more, and Martin’s lack of magical ability and supportiveness were a welcome change of relationship dynamic. At 19, Celestina’s skating was noticed by a muggle coach, who encouraged her to compete. Unfortunately, after a few exhilarating months, Elysia had to point out that competing in muggle sports was against the Statute of Secrecy. Celestina found a group of wizarding skaters, but it was never the same. She found work at her stepfather's museum, skating and dueling as a hobby. By 24, she found herself jealous of Delia again--her wizarding profession, her marriage, her adoring kids.

With a bit of nudging, Celestina and Martin got married late that winter. But seeing her mother again at the wedding stirred the questions and ambitions Celestina had before-- Who was her mysterious birth-father? Where was the home that Iselin left them for? Why couldn’t Celestina beat her? Iselin had only ever mentioned that she was now working on spell development and not long after the wedding, their usual letters stopped. Amidst the struggles of pregnancy, Celestina was invited to help some of her idolized skaters start a professional magical skating board. Three, terrible, sleepless months into motherhood, Celestina reconnected with the group and vanished for Russia that day.

➳❅SEARCH AND DESCENT While the magical skating board never quite took off the way she hoped, Celestina found a small community of dedicated duelists in the region. She lost more than she won, and hated the confused or pitying expressions she thought she saw on faces afterwards. But it was during one of these tournaments that she got a clue as to who her birth-father had been.

Once hooked, Celestina started a search that spanned years and took her around Europe and Asia. The search led only to disappointing answers: Her birth-father had been a promising student turned successful cursebreaker. He’d been with Iselin for only one night post-graduation before leaving to join the Death Eaters in the UK, where he presumably died. It wasn't even certain if he had been accepted in their ranks. During this time, Celestina mostly got by with her money from skating or working at a cafe in Wizarding Russia. But as her travels took her further away for longer, she started asking her husband back in England for resources.

While most of her information and leads came by shady means, Celestina’s first actual crime was an accident. She was in Ireland, tracking the last known location of her birth-father when she found two wands buried in an unmarked grave. She hadn’t thought much of taking the wands at first, simply following an instinct to identify the people in the grave. She recruited a young person skilled in wandlore to help identify the wands and their last spells.

Mourning and rethinking her results, Celestina visited Martin and her child once, five years after she left. The girl seemed to be doing well, and for a week Celestina enjoyed playing “mommy” to this little girl. But when the child accidentally burned a few of her notes, she left again. She spent the next few years hunting down relics that had been part of her father’s fortune and acquiring them. As funds from her husband dwindled, she traded potions or information for these pieces. Some were easier to just take. Somewhere along the years she found out about an auror tracking her and fled the country again.

With each crime, she felt less and less like herself, and more and more obsessed, a hollow figure chasing a story that didn’t mean anything and fleeing from the inevitable. After three years of stealing sprees and fighting off anyone who got in her way, she discovered an address to a countryside house-- Iselin’s childhood home. Nestled in the mountains, warded against apparition and unplottable, the house seemed like the perfect place to retreat and start anew. There was even a house elf, dutifully maintaining the house. She had to stop sometime. If she couldn’t find greatness in her past, she just had to start with the family she still had left.

So when Martin came to St. Petersburg, Celestina treated it as a fresh start. They could start over as a family, start a new life in the secluded countryside, away from too-curious aurors. Instead, Martin brought up divorce. It was a slap to the face in light of her hope of a lovely future. Celestina knew that he never would have thought of it on his own and blamed Elysia for questioning her earnestness and turning Martin against her. Elysia was an obstacle she could never out-talk. But if she could just immobilize Elysia, she could still make this work. She could convince him. Or if not, she had magic he didn’t. She could make him. But Elysia wasn’t interested in dueling and after deflecting the attack, simply grabbed her brother and niece and apparated away.

A few weeks later the divorce papers arrived. Celestina tore them apart, confounded the official sent to deliver the notice, and flatly refused to accept this reality. Realizing that this meant the Ministry had her location or soon would, she left Russia and hid out in the countryside house. With nothing and no one else, she devoted herself to feverishly parsing the artificer notes her mother and grandfather had been working on. She determined she had to figure out the spells and make them work.

➳❅MOTHERHOOD In Summer 2046, Celestina returned to Godric's Hollow to again check on Martin and Aidene, only to find them very (in her mind) hostile. She returned again in Summer 2049 under the guise of 15 year old "Gabriela Engels", but ultimate decided Aidene was too weird. Instead though, she formed a close bond with Dominik and Deepak Knapp and stayed all summer to play with them, visiting with her stepfather in while in the country.

Back in Sisikon in the fall, Celestina witnessed a freak train accident and rescued a little boy from the flames and wreck. Angry at the Knapps many happy children, she returned very briefly in a fit of rage to Godric's Hollow to burn down the Knapp Cottage. She carried Dominik outside to safety, but all they found of Deepak was a charred, unrecognizable body. Later that month, she adopted the little boy she'd rescued to stay.

Celestina left Erin unattended only once: in December, she had a suddenly gnawing intuition that she needed to return to England and returned in time to attend her stepfather, Aspen's, funeral under the guise of polyjuice potion. She had come to the conclusion that she needed Aidene's blood to finish recreating Iselin's work, but her attempt to stun and acquire a sample turned into a full-fledged duel. Celestina won, gathered as much blood sample as she could, and left Aidene to die.

From then on, Erin was Celestina's primary focus: She still tried to understand Iselin's notes, but bonding with, teaching, and comforting her boy was the most important. She has not yet managed to crack Iselin's work, but it remained a hobby as she and her house elf raise Erin, subsisting of sales from the farmland and the occasional high-value thievery.

Against her better judgement, Celestina sent Erin to attend Durmstrang at his insistence. In the years that followed, she was proud to see him develop as both an athlete and wizard. His own interest in her family's legacy was a welcome boon on her search for answers, and his presence was helped her appreciate the life they had together. There was more time for her research, but there was also more time for simple tending to the farm and caring for magical creatures she discovered in the area. She was startled by Erin's friendship with Amelie Siddall, but inclined to welcome his friends.

In the summer of 2057, the owl of a young english lass crashed into the delicate peace Celestina enjoyed. Innocent letters became friendly pen-pals. Late in the year, at Erin's persistent questioning, she admitted that she had not, indeed, rescued him from the train fire in Sisikon, but kidnapped him from a fire she'd set in England. For a terrifying week, Celestina waited without contact, but at the end, Erin returned to her. The following winter though, Nicki showed up in person. Once more, Celestina had her suspicions, but Ines was not one of the names she feared, Erin was incredibly happy, and most persuasively, Celestina felt no ill-will or deception from Nicki. So, she was was happy to welcome Nicki for not only the winter, but in an official capacity over the following school year.

Due to Erin's relationship with the villagers, Celestina also started interacting more with the muggle villagers in Sisikon, teaching young children ice-skating and offering potion remedies as under the guise of "homebrew cures." While there were whispers of her being some kind a witch or faerie, the effectiveness of her remedies were appreciated.
