OUT IN THE RAIN Roleplay Event
RP format only! Worth 5 Growth Points RP minimum is 7 posts
[The world is changing and you don't want to miss it! We wanted to provide you with some additional prompts to help inspire your reactions to what is happening in the world. By no means do you need to respond to the prompts below, but we hope for those looking for some 'solo fuel' or RP settings can use these to your advantage.]
The rains were endless, the sound drowning out the normal peaceful noises of your homeland. You haven't seen any of the land-dwelling fauna in months, and have been all but forced to stay below the surface of the water to not be swept away in the storm. Thankfully, you were made to live and breathe below the surface, but you missed the view of the land. It was all but depressing for most of those around you, and very few found the rain exciting. Since it seems like it is never going to let up, it's about time you ventured out at last. What do you do? Do you try and find some food, or maybe hunt down one of your friends? Do you find yourself in danger, or maybe in a place you never had access to before? Take some time to explore, but be careful because the rains have caused strong floods and even stronger waters, meaning traveling even a few hundred feet away could spell danger.

It was strange how the endless rains were able to make places that he'd been before appear as being extremely different. To the point that he almost felt as though he could get lost just leaving his home... but it wasn't as though he were going to just stay home. If anything the rain had made his older brother more irritable then usual since he couldn't go out for a good time, which made Kaimi's mood more dismal as well. Better to leave and risk getting lost in the churned up waters he thought to himself idly. After looking from side to side, checking in on where Moke and Peleke were at the moment, he then left the house at a quickened pace. He was going to get and about, and make sure that he was able to keep away from home for a while. There had to be something to do out there, though he wasn't quite sure what yet. Maybe he'd go find himself a snack? That or perhaps he could do a bit of digging. The way the water was moving might make it more difficult, if not impossible, but he'd do it anyway just as something different to do. Or maybe he'd get lucky and the moving waters would actually unearth something useful? He wouldn't know until he got out there. After a quick trip to his room to get a couple things he headed out the opening that was the window and headed out toward the direction of town.

Kaleo was told countless times to not leave the house while the rains were going on. He was told. The child sniffled as he rubbed at his ankle. It really hurt. He had snuck out of the house once it was confirmed that his parents were going to be at a friend's house till the undertow calmed down some. His elder siblings were all distracted as they were preparing a few meals in place of their parents. Kaleo just wanted to know how strong the undertow was...boy did he ever. The child was instantly swept away without warning. Carried to a area he hadn't seen before. He peeked out from the kelp he had taken refuge in. "Hello? Is anyone there?" He was more than a little scared.

One of Kaimi's ears gave a little twitch as he heard a voice calling out, one that sounded... oddly familiar. He was certain that he'd heard it before but why would someone with a child's voice be out during the rains? Not only out during the rains but out where he was at the moment? It wasn't in town anymore as Kaimi had left that behind, wanting to see if the ruff waters had kicked up the mud and caused treasures to be exposed. It would make his job a lot easier after all. Now that he'd heard the voice though it seemed as though it was impossible to focus on work. Instead he glanced from side to side before he called out, "Ahh... hello?" He might just be hearing things but it was best that he made certain. If a child was out in this it might be best that he saw them home before he got to work.

Kaleo blinked as he heard a answer. "Who-who's there!?!?" he squeaked out. The child didn't dart out in the open, but did dart over to another spot to hide in. He peeked around a large rock. "I'm...warning you. I-I'm not to be underestimated!!!"

Kaimi's barbels gave another thoughtful twitch as he heard the voice again. Definitely a real voice so he wasn't hearing things, meaning that someone other then himself was out in the rain. Not the best of ideas and he should scold them... but given that he was doing the exact same thing that they were doing he really shouldn't. It would seem pretty terrible of him to act in such a manner... at the same time he knew the voice and had to admit he was surprised. Here he thought that Kaleo was a bit more meek. He must have grown a bit since last they met. Giving a glance around he said, "I'm sure that you've grown quite tough, Kaleo. Regardless you shouldn't be out in such weather. The currents can be unpredictable and might be tossing things about that could hurt you." He knew from experience about the dangers the rain presented.

There was a moment of sheer silence as the child's mind recalled the owner of that voice. "Kaimi!!!" he darted out to hug the elder tightly. "I-I got lost..." he admitted meekly as he looked up to the elder. "What are you doing out here?"

Kaimi hugged Kaleo to his chest, finding it easy to hold him in such a manner since being in the water made Kaleo feel as though he weighed nothing. He looked down at the boy then said, "You got lost? Poor thing... don't worry, I will see to it that you're brought safely home, don't worry." He had to admit that he was even more worried now that he knew that poor Kaleo had gotten himself lost. "Huh? Me? I'm working. I thought that the current might have helped in clearing some of the mud away to make my job easier... but that can wait. I need to see you home first. Are you hurt?" After the incident with Rewi he couldn't help but worry that something painful or scary might have happened to Kaleo as well.

The child shook his head. "Not hurt...just got swept up by the current." he looked around. Not seeing anything familiar. "I can't see anything I'm used to out here..." he snuggled into the elder's side a little. "Kaimi...is there any safe places nearby? We can wait out the currents...."

"Things do look a bit different, mostly due to there being so much mud in the water. Not to mention that there has been a lot of stuff pushed around making it more and more confusing. Luckily it's mostly out here where the current is at its worst and not back in town." Things seemed to be a little bit more stable there much to his relief. Of course knowing that someone like Kaleo was getting pushed around by the water made him hope the rains meant to end soon. Looking down at the one he was holding onto he said, "Now out there, it's sort of an open, swampy area. If you want to climb onto my back and hold on I can swim us back to town though. Does that sound alright?"

Kaleo nodded as he shifted to slip onto Kaimi's back. The child looked around at everything. It really was hard to see the known plants that would of led him back on his own. He looked down to Kaimi. Elders were really something weren't they? They always knew what to do and how to handle situations like these. "You're really brave, Kaimi." He smiled. "I wanna be as brave as you when I grown up!"

"Huh? Brave, me?" That wasn't really a way that he thought of himself. The idea of being called brave, it was new and different but not something that he was against exactly. He just wished that he was braver when it came to his outing with Rewi not that long back. He might just be making up for it now though? Giving a smile he looked over his shoulder at the boy that was holding onto his back and he said, "Thank you. I'm sure that you will get braver if you're really dedicated to the idea." At least that was how Kaimi felt about it. Turning his head forward he set to swimming back toward town. His work could wait, for the time being he wanted to focus all of his energy on getting Kaleo home instead. It was far more important then digging for crystals in his mind. Digging could be done at any time after all. "Don't worry, we will be back in town in no time. After that we should see about getting you a once over by a healer, just to be safe. For now though you just hold onto me and rest up."

Kaleo hummed as he listened to Kaimi. Something to dedicate himself to...that was easy. He could be braver, yeah. He looked around the cloudy waters. Taking note that the waters around them seemed to be clearer. Maybe that was because Kaimi's current was battling it back. That was a cool thought. The child looked around again. The waters were really cool looking at the moment. He looked up to see the churning surface. That was really cool...he looked back to Kaimi. "Okay. Seeing a healer might be a good idea..I felt as if I rolled for a second..."

Kaimi gave a relieved smile and said, "Thank you. It's always best even if you aren't certain to just check in with a healer if something happens. Better to be cautious then sorry later." Knowing that Kaleo agreed meant that he would be able to feel better about everything. He didn't want any of his friends to get hurt after all, not when he cared for them so dearly. Knowing that there might be something wrong he set to swimming just a bit faster. The sooner they got back the better since he wanted to make sure that Kaleo got a good once over from a healer. As he swam along he looked over his shoulder, "If you need anything just let me know, alright? Or if you see anything worth noting." There were things moving through the water after all that they should keep an eye out for. Having a second set of eyes to keep a look out would put Kaimi more at ease.

"Okay, I don't mind keeping an eye out!" the child said brightly. Kaleo was able to keep a sharp eye for about half of the remaining trip back home. Once he saw familiar stone shapes the child found himself nodding off before Kaimi would feel a soft thump as Kaleo's head hit his shoulder. The child had tuckered himself out with the whole ordeal.
