ASPIRATIONS/PERSONALITY/BIO

Aspirations: To either become a member of his family's business in either tailoring or doing the actual selling or to become the mate of someone really well off so he doesn't have to work at all. He's good either way.

Personality: Lala grew up with a lot of older siblings, with the youngest of them being all at least apprentices by the time he arrived. He was a 'surprise baby' for his parents and that ended up with him being the baby of the family and thus he ended up quite spoiled. Anything he wanted from clothing, to toys, to jewelry, and beyond his family did their best to get for him and then some. As such he's not the sort that knows all that much about a hard day's work because he's used to people just giving everything to him.

He's also blessed with his mother's good looks so he is also used to being able to give people cute 'puppy dog eyes' and tends to get things from them. There are people in his village, merchants mostly, that would give him free little baubles and snacks as a child and it's something he's used to getting even now. It's mostly only in his own hometown though so he'd have to test his luck were he to go to another place.

In place of using just his cute face or his family though he can also be a bit of a flirt (nowadays since he's become a teen that is) to try to get things as well. It's a technique he's seen his mother use a million times in the past with her husband to make sure to get what she wants and it's something that he's picked up on. From what he's learned on his own it's also the best way to deal with strangers since note everyone is from his village, nor has just anyone been won over by him. As such were he to run into someone that didn't he might end up a little on the confused side to be sure. He wouldn't really understand why someone would chosen not to give him whatever he wants and might end up seeing them as a puzzle to be solved more then anything.

While Lala isn't prone to huge fits when he doesn't get what he wants he would definitely try his hand at a few tears as a last resort in an attempt to get what he wants. If the person still holds out on treating him in the manner he is accustom he might end up trying other things depending how committed he is, like trying to ignore them or the like. If it's still a bust then he will go to his parents or siblings instead.

Bio: Lala's parents had five children and that was enough for them, with them never planning on having another. What they had they thought were more then enough and their children were at the age where their training was getting to the point that they could start to help out in the various aspects of their parent's shop. Some were better at the tailoring aspect while others made really good merchants, able to sell anything to anyone.

Having Lala wasn't something that had been planned on with his parents being completely content with the children that they had. Until they weren't. As their babies grew and their 'nest' was suddenly empty the two of them realized that they missed raising children and wanted another. The desire for another child ended up with him being quite the surprise for the other children of the family who weren't expecting their parents to want another child, especially given the ages of their other children. Not a bad surprise in any way, but definitely a surprise.

The other children in his family were already at least apprentices, some older, some already working alongside their parents, when he arrived. He was just a little thing, cute and clingy, and because of this ended up a very spoiled little thing. At all times of the day and night he had a parent or sibling there dotting on him, giving him anything and everything he might want, anything to see him smile. He was only too happy to cling to them too, getting carried around from place to place, talking to them when they had free time, and on occasion trying out both tailoring and salesmanship, the latter of which just looked amusing and adorable when he was a child.

His tailoring skills are so-so but his skills at talking to people developed well, causing his parents to consider having him join the merchanting side of the business. The only thing they worry about is that he grew up a bit on the spoiled side and they wonder if he will be good at doing things that don't involve him getting something personally. They worry that his desire to have things given to him won't make him the best of salesman. It's up in the air at the moment if they will consider going forward with his training in that aspect of work or if they will double down on trying to up his skills as a tailor.

Lala is aware of the of the Menehune, he's even seen one or two of them from a distance, but he's never met one of them personally. His thoughts on them include a lot in the way of curiosity. He find them to be attractive enough and there is the urge to poke at their barbels. Other then that he has no real thoughts on them at the present. He wants to learn more about them if he has the chance, but he won't be leaving town to meet with them, not yet at least. He's heard his parents talking about the possibility of going on a trip so that they can see about selling to the neighboring clan but it's nothing set in stone and nothing they mean to do in the immediate future.

At the moment he's just happy to help where he can, play when he can, and get spoiled where he can. He knows he will have to be more serious when he grows up but that doesn't mean that he's in a rush to get to that point. He will see what the future brings when it arrives, for now he's happy to enjoy the present to the fullest.

LALAKI'S HOME

~ Lala's family is found more often then not within the village of Waipuka. It's a grand village that offers them a lot of customers when it comes to the clothing that they make. Lala has never really thought much of traveling to other places (save for trips to Noelani) but recently with talk of tribes from the ocean making an appearance he really hopes that they travel to Waipuka so he can see them himself.

KAHA'IKO

The people of the rivers and the sea are noted for their regal stature and calm demeanor. With silvery-blue skin and eyes, lightly colored hair and scales that range in cooler colors, the Kaha’iko blend in well with their river and lake environment. They are one of the tallest races in Kahikina, with willowy bodies that are on average slim and lithe. Out of all the races, they are the ones most willing to wander the nearby landmasses, and as a result harvest the flora and fauna as food and clothing.

The source of the Kaha’iko culture is high atop the great cliff where the water is born. Noelani, the spring-lake, is where it is believed that all water bleeds from, and is where the elders reside. It is believed that the water from the lake, some of the purest and untainted, can heal ailments and extend life. As a result, it is one of the most sacred and guarded locations to the Kaha’iko, and outsiders are rarely permitted to enter.

Although the main source of the culture is high atop Noelani, the Kaha’iko are widespread, with many small settlements around the lakes and rivers of Kahikina. These settlements often are located where the main river breaks or merges, with structures that are built both in the shallows and on land. Each structure has pools on the bottom floors, with storage and workshops higher up where it is dry. It is rare to find a building in the settlement that does not have a completely submerged basement thanks to an advanced system of underground drainways.

The Kaha’iko are a peaceful race, but recently have faced a great drought that has cut them off from the far-off sea. They have attempted to dig out and expand the river where it has dried to a stream, but had little success. As a result, they have abandoned generation old villages and have lost connection to the races beyond where the river has run dry.

Religion

The Kaha’iko believe in a circle of life that includes karma and resurrection. They feel that the Noelani Spring is the source of life, as well as the place where the souls of their people return to be born anew. Because they live and breath in the waters, they feel the spring is the source of life and what transfers souls into hatchlings. In order to give thanks for such a gift, they make an effort to preserve the waters and only take from the land what they need. They do not follow any set pantheon of gods, but do believe every single thing on earth contains nourishment from the water, and as a result show great respect for Kahikina and its flora, fauna, and people.

Government

Because the Kaha’iko believe that age equals wisdom based on experience and exposure to Noelani’s waters, they are led by an elder council that live outside the Noelani Spring. The elders are the ones who evaluate the world and the water from the earth, and as a result are respected for their knowledge by other races in Kahikina. Rarely, the elders may find a young Kaha’iko seen to possess an old soul, and as a result will invite this blessed child into their care to train them to become a leader for their people.
