My New Year's Resolution is (Write your resolution here)!!
Username: Aria Starstone Nightmare Name: Response: They sat in front of their mirror, gazing thoughtfully at themself. It had been an interesting year, and it was time to make a resolution for themself for the new one. They ran a finger through their hair, with care, eyes lost in thought. What did they need to work on, improve? Everyone had things they needed to improve, after all. They studied their figure, and shook their head. They LIKED their shape, so that was not an issue. No reason to lose, or gain, weight, when their figure was exactly right.
They examined their hair next, considering the texture and condition. No, they had been doing a very good job of maintaining their hair. It was soft, and silky, and behaved. So again, not something they needed to work on for the New Year. Indeed, brushing their fingers through their hair, lately, was pure pleasure. Well then, what else? They went to the door of their room, and looked around their apartment. Clean, neat, and they had all the comforts they had been looking for, so no cleanliness resolutions. They turned back to their room, and glanced around, then their eyes fell on their closet.
They paused, and considered, then walked up to it, and opened the door. It was a big closet, one of the reasons they had gotten this apartment... A wonderful walk in with room for lots of clothing. And they DID have lots of clothing. They looked at all of it, and then nodded, a slow smile crossing their face. They had the perfect resolution.
"For the new year, I resolve to go through my closet, and remove clothing I never wear, or am unlikely to wear, because I realized they do not fit my style, and donate them all, then replace them with things I will wear and love!" They clapped their hands in glee, happy to have found a resolution that worked for them!
My New Year's Resolution is Finish the book I been putting off forever!!
Username:Shaddaling Nightmare Name: Dahlia Response: New years and another year gone and past and another year to start anew! This year would be the year, this year she would finish a rough draft of the book she always wanted to write, and edited it,and by this time next year! She would have it off to the publisher. Maybe even be a famous author. That would be so grand.
Though she had to figure out where all her notes went and the research and scoot things about and hummm.. Maybe just the rough draft and edit it next year? It was still progress! And noooo, stop procrastinating Dahlia or you get nothing done! Nothing!
She sighed and lounged on the chair, considering. Ehh, maybe Netflix and chill for a little bit, have some wine while waiting for it to get close to the ball drop. Throwing legs over the arm, she leaned back, sipping her wine as Jim worked with Stricklander to fight off Angor Rot.
And for a cartoon it was good but it was a cartoon and missing different shades of nuisances and well the main characters were teenagers and the others were very bias for reasons dealing with a long nearly never ending war, more like cold war where things were planned and sprawling out only clashing in small incidents.
And well, she could do better though she did have to read the books because the books were always better. Dahlia craned her neck, looking at the clock mmh, nearly time for the ball to drop and for her to make her resolution. The episode was over anyhow.
She changed channels, and hummed thinking. “This year… This year I’m going to write and edit a book and try to get it to the publisher by next new year's day.”

My New Year's Resolution is to better myself and enjoy life!!
Jaxine is the kind of person that really strives for her dreams and desires. She is incredibly hardworking and doesn't accept failure as an option. The way she viewed it is if she didn't work as hard as she could to achieve greatness then how will she ever get there. Growing up wasn't easy for Jaxine and she learned at a young age that if you want something... then you need to work hard for it. Her friends always teased her about being a workaholic and she always rebutted with her just being ambitious. Truth be told, Jaxine really was a workaholic. When she wasn't in class or doing homework, she with either studying to get ahead or at her part-time job as a baker.
For as long as Jaxine can remember, helping children is what she really wanted to do with her life. For that reason, she was working hard to become a pediatrician. She barely slept and hanging out with her friends was even more bare. In fact, she was rather surprised that she still had friends.
Jaxine looked at her laptop, typing up her essay that was due the next evening. She could hear her roommates and their party downstairs. It wasn't the noise that bothered her, it was the empty feeling she felt inside her as she listened to everyone else having fun. As she typed away at her laptop, she got distracted again when she heard the party-goers cheering for the New Year. She couldn't even remember the last time she went to a party... let alone having fun. She sighed softly, looking down at her lap. Sure, working hard to obtain her dreams was logically the best thing to do... but.. why did she feel so empty? Jaxine listened to some girls outside her door, waiting for the bathroom. They discussed their New Year resolutions... something about working harder in school and getting a boyfriend... New years resolutions were a waste of time. It's all fine until a few months later when everyone seems to forget their resolution. Some people even rinse and repeat their resolutions year after year. Jaxine shook her head at the thought.
As she wrote more, she found herself getting distracted by the whole resolution idea. Being as hardworking as she is, it wasn't like she couldn't stick to a resolution if she had picked one. Closing her laptop, she began to brainstorm some ideas. Perhaps something that can help better herself, help her gain life experience and help others... all in one. She smiled brightly as an idea crossed her mind. "...What if I...pick an activity to do everyday of the year?..An activity that I have to make time for.... that way I can live a little and maybe... not feel so empty inside." She told herself, nodding in approval.
Jaxine opened up her laptop and opened up a spread sheet. She decided that every month will have a theme... something like: Community, volunteer, adventure, exercise, mental exercises and more. After each month had a theme, she began writing an activity that she would have to fulfill everyday.. something like planting a tree, starting a public garden or picking up trash at the park for example. Once she was done, she printed out the activities then began cutting them out... making sure their were organized in the appropriate month.
With sore tired fingers, Jaxine put the first months themed activities into a jar then labeled it 'Community.' Feeling proud of herself, she reached in to select her very first activity. She smiled as she read it out loud to herself, "Paint over the graffiti in my neighborhood.... It's a good thing I like painting." She laughed softly to her self. She then took a seat at her desk and pulled up her essay on her computer. First, she would finish the essay then get some sleep.. once rested, she would have her daily adventure! Excitement bubbled inside her as she worked on her essay. This year was going to be a fun year.
My New Year's Resolution is pranking the children at the hospital!!
Username: irishgirl1017 Nightmare Name: Lena Faye Response: Lena Faye, sitting in her favorite chair was not quite sure what to make as her resolution for the upcoming New Year. It seemed each year she made them, they were silly and never really obtainable. Like one year her resolution was to dress like a lady that lasted 3 days before she got sick of it and went back to her comfy old clothes. Another resolution was giving up sweets. Yeah that lasted oh about 30 seconds past the New Year. That one was so unobtainable it was hilarious! She laughed herself silly while eating her sweet cupcake with rainbow icing! Another resolution was to be more like her brother, yeah that was not even close to being obtainable.
~sighing~ She frowned, there had to be a resolution she could actually do! Feeling restless she began to pace around her living room, then to her bedroom. It was messy as usual, everything was in it's place only she knew where each thing's place was. Amid the chaos of her room there was a system to the messiness. Running and jumping up on her bed she sat there with her mind racing trying to find the perfect resolution.
Then it hit her. The children in the hospital! She knew exactly what her resolution would be. She wanted to be able to bring more joy to them on a daily basis, so she resolved to become a "prankster". Each day she would do something silly such as: TP the common room, shoot water guns at the nurse's from behind a child, make silly string art using the nurse's desk as a canvas, tossing water balloons across the room, perhaps she could find a whoopee cushion or 10 and place randomly throughout the children's wing so unsuspecting parents, doctor's or even the children themselves would sit on them and giggle uncontrollably. Each day the pranks would be different but harmless. Nothing that could harm a child or anyone just something to make them smile and laugh forgetting where they are for awhile.
Harmless fun is what she wants to bring to them, make them laugh and be normal children if only for a moment. Let them get in on the fun to, have them come up with ideas as to what she can do but they must keep it a secret it is her. The looks on the faces of the employees as they are pranked daily will be a welcome distraction to those children who must be there due to an illness. If even one child laughs it will be worth it to Lena Faye.

My New Year's Resolution is (Write your resolution here)!!
My New Year's Resolution is instilling positivity!!
Username: Porcelain Pinch Nightmare Name: Eki Response: Eki didn't know what she wanted to do. But she knew that she needed to do something.
Bitterness filled her core and every fiber of her being. It seems like her sister had passed it onto her as if it was an infection. She wished she hadn't.
Why did her sister have to move? Why did her sister have to get into that accident? Didn't she raise her better than that?! Couldn't she have used more precaution when she was walking across the street? Looked both ways and maybe paused for just that moment. Or tripped on the curb. Perhaps get distracted, talk to a random stranger. She was always good at that. Talking.
Why did she have to fall so sick from it? It had just been an infection from the accident. How could---why----?
Questions she couldn't answer filled her brain as she stared at the calendar. A new year. A time that was supposed to be joyous . Eki had a hard time finding something to celebrate.
How could she when her sister was still in the hospital after a week getting worse?!
As the older sister, she felt compelled to do something. At least get her back to bubbly. Bright. Happy. Even a smile flashed her way would do the deed. Or the sound of her laughter.
But what could she do? Gifts and talking weren’t working. In fact, nothing was. There had even been an attempt to bring in her favorite flitterrat. Alas, it was to no avail.
Something had to work. Positivity? She wrote the word down idly and stared. Her sister was bitter and angry. Every word that came out of her mouth was negative. All of her other guests had gave up trying. Nurses avoided her.
There had to be a way to invoke positivity. There just had to. Doctors had estimated a year of recovery once she did start getting better. The bitterness had to end. Confidently, she underlined the word in big strokes before going over it over and over again before putting resolution underneath the word.
It had to start with something small. Maybe one small compliment. A smile. A gentle approach to get her to change her mind on things. Hopefully, as she healed, it would become greater. More prevalent. Maybe not like how she used to be but happier in life. She smiled, pinning the paper to the board next to her bed. At that moment, a bit of confidence filled her and replaced that bitterness. She might not be able to change what happened, but she sure could try to help in a change of mindset. There had to be a way. And it was the perfect time with the start of the new year.

My New Year's Resolution is fixing things, even if it hurts.
Username: Kivras Nightmare Name: Twilight Response:Note; Mentions of suicide and some abuse under the cut. Proceed with caution <3
For as long as she could remember, she had one best friend.
They did everything together. While they were children, they played. When they got older and went to school, they had almost all their classes together. And even then, as they got older still, they decided their futures together. What classes to take, what degrees to aim for, and even which dorm they should take. Down to the choice of hue for the paint on their walls. Them. Together.
Until it happened.
"Twi, she's no good for you." Was the first thing her best friend had said when she admitted she had a crush on a fellow student. It should have been a warning sign then and there, but Twilight paid no heed. Her friend had never steered her wrong before, right? They must know something that she didn't, saw something in her crush that she was missing.
"Come on Twi, what if you stop paying attention to me?" They pleaded with her to not go on the date, and Twilight was swayed easily into relenting. Her best friend needed her. Besides, they knew what was best for her. Maybe jumping into a date wasn't going to be a good thing in the end.
"Why didn't you call me?! I was so worried Twi, I was crying my eyes out!" After an impromptu after-class dinner with a new friend, Twilight found herself at home with her hysterical friend. They had indeed been crying their eyes out, but instead of seeming worried, Twilight could only shrink under their angry glare and their raised voice.
----Where are you?!
----Answer me!
----Twi please answer me.
----I swear to the Nine if you dont answer me I'm going to die!!!!!
----Twi!!!
????
I was getting some coffee?
I cant text while I'm holding?
----omg i was panicking
----Tell me where you are next time!
: ( Sorry
Twilight had started to see the pattern. If she was late, they panicked. If she wanted to go out with another friend, it suddenly was revealed that her best friend knew that they had done some shady things, or that they simply were 'not good' for her. If she revealed she had a crush or that she had been asked on a date, suddenly they were a 'bad person' and Twilight was guilted into not going on the date or following her feelings after all.
Everything came to a head the day that Twilight actually went out on a date. It was nice, just a movie and a small, casual dinner afterwards. In the end, Twilight and her date had decided that although it was nice, they were better off as friends for the time being. No goodnight kiss, no hand holding, but numbers were exchanged and goodbyes were said at Twilight's dorm door. It was a good end to a good night, and Twilight was tired. Looking forward to going to bed, she entered the dorm room.
Greeted not by the blissful silence, or a 'welcome home'. Twilight was instead yelled at. Berated. She even had to duck out of the way of their fairly new gaming system being thrown her way, and subsequently smashed against the wall behind her. Her best friend was in hysterics, claiming that Twilight never thought about their feelings, how dare she stay out so late and how dare she not answer their texts! That Twilight didn't actually care about them, and that the next time they did it, they would kill themselves. Twilight tried her hardest, but getting a word in edgewise was impossible. Anything she said was countered by more yelling, and she dare not raise her voice, so intimidated...so scared was she.
By the time her best friend has gotten tired of yelling, they had dissolved into a puddle of tears. Twilight couldn't do anything but inch forewards and wrap her arms around them, only to be pushed away. Watching, the only thing she could do, as her friend got up, and went to bed without another word.
When morning came, the new year upon them, so did the absolution.
"We're both going to get help." How Twilight got her friend to listen, she didn't know. "It's a new year, we...we need to start anew."
Taking a deep breath as her friend munched without a care on the breakfast cereal, Twilight turned the pages of the phone book until she got to the counseling session. Leaving it there, she got up, and made her way to her room.
It should have happened long ago, the realization. That she was dependent. That her best friend was controlling. That Twilight herself was unable to walk away, to cut out what needed to be cut out. But at the same time, she couldn't just walk away. No, you don't throw away something just because you realize it probably wasn't working right.
"This year..." Twilight whispered to herself in the mirror as she ran a brush slowly through her hair, "...This year...We're going to fix things. We'll try."
Emmara rolled over on her bed, flicking through images on her phone. All types of bodies in fashionable outfits flitted across her screen and she sighed.
'Look at all these outfits.'
She liked several pictures before closing her screen and lowering her arm. She wanted to make beautiful outfits for people to wear. She could imagine it now, her own brand. 'Ashen Lace' is what all her business cards would read. They would be black, with the deepest red ink spelling out her name. Looking around her room, she sadly looked at all the fabric that was lying around, forgotten.
Unlocking her phone, she once again gazed over images of models, all their outfits looking magical and mystical. It was when her phone buzzed that she snapped out of her trance.
'HAPPY NEW YEAR EMMARA!!!!!!!"
Emmara bolted up and looked outside. The moon was well up into the night sky and over the howling winds she could hear revelers.
It was a new year! A new year meant new possibilities. This. Was. Perfect!
Jumping out of her bed, she moved across her room to the massive pile of sketchbooks that remained untouched and grabbed the biggest one she could find. Snatching her pencil block from her desk, she plopped down on her carpeted floor and flipped open the cover. Picking up a crimson pen, she wrote in sprawling text:
'Ashen Lace - Designs by Emmara Avlonea'
Adding a heart at the end, she smiled and looked up at her ceiling.
'This year,' she thought to herself, closing her eyes tightly, 'this year I'm going to do it! This year I am going to work on my own designs!'
Holding her book in her arms, she proclaimed out loud:
"This year, I'm going to start my brand!"
The cheers of party-goers down the street echoed in her declaration.

My New Year's Resolution is Learning to Let Go (and Recycle)!!
Username: Embi-lamb Nightmare Name: Nameless for now! Response:
Origami. So. Much.Origami.
Their apartment had all sorts of artfully made cranes, frogs, bears and other creatures hanging from their ceiling. Layers upon layers of them creating a beautiful mosaic of colour and shape. The paper was beautiful, aaaaand expensive. Any person who walked in to their bachelor apartment would see right away that they had just a little more than an obsession with the craft. It was how they dealt with anxiety.
Every time another wave or attack would hit, the nightmare would furiously fold another crane, and another, and another until the tightness in their chest, the panic rising in them passed -- until they could finally breathe again. Until they felt like themselves. It had become one of the only ways the 'mare could cope, and while it did serve its purpose, they never could get rid of the origami.
Every last folded edge was a reminder of a bad memory, a spike of some other side to themselves that they loathed. Yet, somehow, the 'mare couldn't let go of them. Every time they entered their living space they were faced with the harsh reality of their emotional instability, as beautiful as they had managed to shape those negative feelings. But now, they were ready to let go; to start fresh.
The 'mare grabbed black garbage bags (totally spacing on the fact they should have grabbed recycling bags) from their kitchenette, face determined with a strengthened resolve as they started to tear down every last figure, wrangling them by the fistful.
This year was going to be better. This year would be their year. No more hiding; no more fear; no more letting their anxiety conquer their life.
Rip. Rip. Riiiip!
A couple hours later ( and, admittedly, much longer then they would have expected it to take ), each and every paper animal had been torn down from their ceiling. The 'mare was panting lightly, feeling a touch jittery. A bit manic, the 'mare grinned to themselves. They weren't panting from being tired. No, they were panting because they were finally doing it. They were living. No longer would they allow themselves to held back by their inner demons. This year they were going to learn how to create a life for themselves and stop giving in to their ruthless internal monologue.
That was their resolution. And it was time to take out the trash.

My New Year's Resolution is to graduate!!
Username: - Mynsed - Nightmare Name: Viessa Response: Viessa stared warily at her worklist. It was…. Well, it was daunting, to be honest.
Seven years ago, she had graduated from the academy as a budding senior and entered Grendel University as a freshman. It would be a cinch, a breeze. There would be no difficulties at all. She would do her classes, get As, make friends, find a job, and graduate. In four years, tops. She would graduate with great grades in four years. Top of the class, even. How hard could it be?
The first year, it was easy peasey. Well, the first month. Turning in assignments was easy. Making friends was easy. However, Viessa was too used to the easy life and so, when things got hard and fast, she brushed past a few unfinished assignments, assuring herself that she could just make it up with other assignments. Her GPA fell but Viessa tried to reassure herself that she could always bring it back up.
For the next two years, she repeated the process. And her gpa fell more and more. It took the fourth year to realize her slacking off was not going to get her to the graduating level. And so, with some task management and prioritizing some things over other things, she was slowly bringing up her gpa. Slowly but surely.
It took three years to bring it high enough and to finish all her required classes. Her four year plan had turned to seven years and a lot of debt. She just had this semester and she could walk. Just this semester and she’ll have her degree. It was the only thing that kept her going, knowing how close she was to the end.
Taking in a deep breath, she once more checked over her list of things to do for the week. She was almost there. She can make it. She can make her parents proud. First generation college graduate. That’s what she’ll be. She could make them prouder. She will graduate. It didn’t matter it took seven years, she was finally almost touching the finish line. She could make it.
Sighing, she pulled out the first assignment on the list. Time to get started.
