Freshling Playroom!

Opens: NOW
Closes: --- NEVER

The academy encourages their younger members to build as many connections as possible. That's why they created a playroom for their freshlings -- a safe and supervised place for the younger students to get to know one another. For the younger freshlings, there are lots of toys to play with and soft mats. For the older freshlings, there are computers, art supplies, board games, and myriad of other activities for them to share with others. The playroom is also a safe place for any children that struggle with personal anxieties, as well as a place to help new student acclimatize to their new school. The playroom serves many purposes, but the number one rule is to have fun!

            Rules:

            1. Seeing as this ORP will never close, we will allow you to claim these posts towards your growths and RP points. Normally all ORPs must close first before points can be claimed! Such is not the case here.
            2. Please follow Gaia ToS.
            3. Be respectful of other people's characters, and remember -- this is just an RP! Their character does not reflect the player in any way, and anything done IC should not be taken personally.
            4. Don't force plots if someone isn't willing.
            5. Keep it friendly!
            6. Have fun!

Molly Beeped into the room and made a once over scan of it's contents, she noted many points of interest, the Board games offered a very appealing taste of 'LIFE' and something called 'CANDYLAND' she had heard good things of this candy thing so this game was calling to her, she hoped there would be someone willing to play with her soon.
She sat by the game boxes and not being able to find their booklets booted onto her personal browser to read the games instructions - before getting distracted by Memes - Heh.
To anyone entering now she would appear Misty eyed and distracted, but not for long ^^

Hamish pushed the doors of the playroom open, tendrils like vapors around his arms and legs. The child had always been a particularly confident one, strolling in to places as if he had nothing to fear. Often times it got the hybrid in to some decent trouble. His caretakers had mentioned the playroom to him -- a place where he could at least be supervised if he was going to continue to be so reckless. Of course, the staff at the academy had worded it differently. They knew that if they told Hamish the playroom was for his own safety that he would have never considered stepping foot inside the safe space. Instead, the adults played it off as the 'cool place to be'. Whether or not it was true, Hamish had to find out for himself. One glance around the room and Hamish could tell maybe they had exaggerated a bit.

Ugh. Hamish was a bit disappointed, really. There were a few cool things in the room though -- at least as cool as a school could get. Well, the boy was here now, He might was well scope things out more thoroughly.

Luca had been minding his own business, keeping to himself as he usually did. Now that school hours were over, a lot of the kids whose parents worked late, or those who lived in the dorms were starting to flood in for playtime. It certainly beat being back at the dorms alone to study, and while Luca was a good student, he knew that all work and no play fried his circuits.

The hybrid watched as the other students made themselves busy and started interacting with one another. A particular doll caught Luca's interest, the child going straight for the boardgames. Luca hummed to himself in thought, long lashes fluttering as he peered at the doll. They seemed to be ... doing ... something. The hybrid had watched them wander over the boardgames, then promptly stop. Perhaps they were 'plugged in'?

Luca rose to his feet, slowly making his way over to the doll with open curiosity. Yah, it looked like they were on the net. There was no other way to explain the child's randomly misty-eyed look. Unless ... something was wrong ... ?

"S'cuse me ... are you alright?" Luca's voice was soft as he bent over, hands on his knees as he waited for a response. "Were you looking for someone to play with you ... ?"

Kahmilla had arrived quite some time ago, right before the rush of other kids filtering in to the room. She wanted to make sure she got herself a good spot at one of the better computers. The computers always filled up fast, and it was always like a mad dash to get to them. There were other computer labs in the school, true, but most of them didn't stay open after hours. The ten computers that were lined up beside one another were all that were available, besides the ones in the library. Those ones, however, were usually taken up by older students doing research for projects and papers. Kami just wanted to play the games. There was a super cool survival one in particular that Kahmilla rather enjoyed. You played as a stranded man on an isolated island, having to get water and food all by yourself. You could collect rain water, try to build rafts to get off the islands, fish, and a even gather coconuts. All of this, of course, needed to be balanced with sleep. At first, the game had been rather difficult. It took quite a few weeks before Kahmilla had come up with a strategy that worked best for her. She had pushed her person to the limits of their energy before sleeping at the last moment, set buckets on days only when it rained, and never fished when it was dark.

It had become a bit of an addiction to Kahmilla. Often times instead of going straight home Kahmilla would stay behind at the school just so she could get an hour of gaming in. She wondered if she would be able to find out from one of the caretakers where they had purchased the game. Maybe she could convince her mom to get it for her ...

A child was seated on the floor, his knees pulled up towards his body. His chin was resting on his kneecaps, his three eyes watching the room around him. He made silent note of each new face that appeared in the room as time slowly ticked by, committing each one to memory. His wings fluttered as his skull pupils contracted. Kelpie had always been a slightly peculiar child, and one lacking in friends. Perhaps it was due to his parents always being so busy that Kelpie had become rather self-sufficient as the years went on. Addison and Dalir -- Kelpie's parents -- were both high priests. Kelpie's twin brother -- Rune -- was the only real companion that Kelpie had. It didn't upset him. Instead, communication with other kids -- if anything -- made Kelpie feel a bit peculiar and put off. The boy had become so used to his small world that interacting with other children had become a bit of an awkward chore. Which was precisely the reason why the counselor had told Kelpie's parents he needed to spend time in the playroom.

Come out of your shell, the adults had urged him. But Kelpie was comfortable the way he was. So, instead of talking to the other kids whenever he was on prescribed time in the playroom, Kelpie just watched the other kids mingle with one another, minding his own business.

Wow, the room was starting to fill up pretty quickly now that the school day had ended. Acacia's tail swished lazily as she peered around the room, trying to spot a place where she could squeeze in at the arts and crafts table. She wanted to work on making more bracelets and necklaces for her friends. Acacia wasn't entirely sure why, but sliding each bead over the fishing line was kind of ... soothing? It was the perfect way to end a school day, at least in the hybrid's mind. It helped quiet her overfull mind. Of course, it also meant the Acacia was left with a plethora of bracelets and necklaces to hand out. Her inner circle already had, oh, easily five or six each by now. At this rate, the hybrid was going to have to start handing them out to random people in the hallways.

Acacia shrugged gently to herself as she made her way over to the table, pulling out of the of the empty chairs and settling herself. Luckily the caretakers had already arranged the beading supplies on the table, knowing that Acacia frequented the playroom for that reason alone. The caretakers were good like that. They paid attention to the kids that came and went, along with what they did while in the playroom and who they hung out with. After all, it was their job to keep track of those kinds of things. Sometimes it could be a little creepy, but in cases like this, it saved Acacia from having to hunt down the art supplies and meant she could dive right in.

Now, what colour combo should she start with ... ?

User Image Winter entered the playroom. It was much larger, and busier than she had expected. She would've much rather been at the library where she could sit in the quiet room and read in one of the large soft chairs. Her appointed councilor was worried about her lack of social engagements so they had requested Winter come and try to make friends. They assured her it would be "tons of fun". She felt like the grown ups didnt understand at all. Winter didn't see what good it would do, if no one wanted to talk to her elsewhere, why would they do it if she came her. One of the caretakers escorted her here for her free period since it was not on her normal scheduled route. She didnt know if pets were allowed but she had smuggled her fluffbug blue in her backpack along with a book. As the door shut behind her she looked around the room trying to find one safe place she could curl up away from all the chaos. To her luck there was a table towards the back of the room that hadn't been taken over yet. She quickly dashed through the groups of freshlings and sat in one of the open chairs. Making sure noone was looking she sat her bookbag on the table and opened it, she carefully slid her newest fairytail book out from under Blue who was still asleep. It seemed all the supervisors were too busy wrangling others so she figured it safe to read. Taking one last glance around the room she slide down under the table with her backpack and opened her book. All she had to do was wait it out.

(open for interaction, even though it might not look like it lol)

Her family had wanted her to meet more people... more law abiding people. Sure uncle Kingston was law abiding but he didn't really count as he was older than her. No she apparently needed more friends her age. So here she was at the play room. There were already kids here, but she was nervous. It wasn't because they were scary, it was more they existed. Vanhi was cripplingly shy. Why had she agreed to this again, she turned around to plead at Amatsu only to find that her friend wasn't there.
Okay... okay deep breaths, she could do this. She could do this. She would just sit here at the this table and figure best way to get through this. She was her parents daughter so maybe she would make a friend. Yes go about this positively. She could do this. She could talk to one of them.

Maurice had been lurking in the corner, having squirreled himself away to read where it was a bit quieter. Some of the younger freshlings were shrieking and squealing as they played. It wasn't so much that Maurice disliked younger kids as he found their shrill noises a bit too overwhelming. He did like the playroom, but some of the occupants were a bit much for him at times.

Risking a glance upwards, Maurice spied a rather timid looking hybrid, his kirin ears flicking as his four eyes blinked in an attempt to focus. They were clinging to an older ... student? It was hard to tell as some races stayed looking so young, Maurice had learned. The child clinging to their arm looked like a true ball of nerves. Maurice's heart twinged with something not quite as disrespectful as pity -- perhaps sympathy? Maurice himself used to be quite timid, and he easily recognized that trait in other people. The way people's feet turned inwards, they way their eyes were downcast or avoided the gaze of others, and -- for those with ears -- they way their ears pulled back slightly.

"Hmmn ... "

Maurice closed his book, rising to his hooves. Well, he had made up his mind. He was going to go and talk to the hybrid, like another child did once upon a time to him.

The hybrid's feet clacked against the floor softly as he approached, his book tucked under his armpit, baggy sweater almost swallowing it up entirely.

"Hello." Maurice offered gently. "My name's Maurice. It's nice to meet you! It's a bit crazy in here right now ... want to sit somewhere a bit more quiet ... ? It might help."

Rudy had been paying attention as a rather frazzled looking fey --- fey hybrid? -- weaved their way through the room, passing through clustered of freshlings playing, or, conversing, minding their own business. They had settled themselves in the back of the room, seated in an empty chair with a familiar at their side and a book. Rudy himself wasn't much for reading, but he had been looking for a new playmate. Maybe if he was lucky, the other child might like some company? All of Rudy's usual pals weren't in attendance, for whatever reasons they had to be absent. It felt as his group was getting older that they were all starting to split off and 'play' considerably less. An interest in clothes and social connections were starting to become the main focus, or at the very least more 'adult' games like sports instead of make-belief. Rudy had always had a big imagination, and was disappointed when his friends began to scoff at his recess suggestions. As his friends slowly stopped coming to the playroom, Rudy had decided to keep going. Who knows, maybe he'd make a few friends who were a bit more like-minded.

Rudy decided to approach the blue fey child, his twin demon tails dragging lazily across the floor as he stopped a couple feet away, not wanting to encroach on their personal space if they didn't wish for the company.

"What'cha readin'?" Rudy asked, fidgeting with his sweater collar.

Chandra was extremely happy to have her older brother down in below with her, however he was busy with his job and well Chandra felt lonely. She hadn't made any friends in her time here. There was no one to giggle with late at night as they talk about silly book plots or cv shows. There was no one to study with or go to festivals with. So she thought that maybe she could go to one of the playrooms, see if she clicked with any one.
However the problem she realized when she got there was there were a lot children here already and she wasn't sure who to talk to. She would though, after all it was the proactive people that got friends right? Unfortunately she wasn't sure what the line from being too pushy and being too wimpy. Okay deep breath and look at everyone again.

Lilly… was beyond excited. She ran into the playroom at full speed, mouth opening to yell in greeting (well, yell in her whispery voice) but, in her haste, her left foot stepped on the cloth of her onesie on her right foot and she tumbled.

Shocked, she sat up, reaching for her dinosaur stuffed animal companion. She didn’t want that to happen. Frowning, she rubbed at her knee before standing up and gazing wide eyed around the room. She hadn’t known it was there! ”Hello everyone!” she yelled at the top of her lungs… which came out as a raspy whisper.

She could make so many friends here! Excitement practically vibrated through her as she thought of the aspect.

Birkita had been dragged to follow the fool to the playroom. It really was her own fault, though. She had told Lilly quite plainly that instead of bothering her constantly, she should go to the playroom. And the fool had been dumbfounded. Apparently, all the time spent at the academy, the dinosaur clad Freshling hadn’t a clue that there had been a playroom. Typical.

Sighing, Birkita pointedly ignored Lilly on the floor, stepping past her to go sit in a beanbag chair. She would not get any studying done in this noisy place. But maybe a bit of reading would help. She did have books from the solstice festival, after all…

Vanhi startled a tiny bit at the sound but took another deep breath. She wasn't expecting some one to talk with her so soon, but she could talk back. She could do this, after all amatsu had been more shy than her when he had been her age and he now went out and helped father and grandfather with the cafe. It was her dream to help make new drinks and working with them when she got older. So her social skills needed working on.

" ah..." ugh that was a horrible start. "Pleasure to meet you, I'm Vanhi In.... Vanhi" yes that was better... hopefully. " ah yes that would be nice, or uh definitely might help."

Why was there never a falling object from space to crush you when you needed it.
