Profile:

Rhys is an orphaned freshling with a long list of bodies in his history despite still being so young. His mother and father died rather untimely deaths in the back alley of a sketchy area of the town that they lived in, and then three couples that took him in, one after the other, all succumbing to an illness that was rampaging through the region. Rhys wasn't aware of that, however, and when the last couple passed away he took it as a sign that he was some kind of deathbringer. Believing in his very young mind that people shouldn't be dying because of him, he tried to disappear into the woods despite his feverish state. He was found the very next day but, because he was very obviously sick, rather than take him in the one that found him alerted social workers to his whereabouts instead. He was subsequently rescued and received treatment before being taken to the Academy.

Rhys isn't a weepy child by any means despite having gone through so much at such a tender age. He's still energetic and will go out to play a little bit, but one might notice over time that he doesn't really make friends or connect to the others very well. His focus is mostly on his studies, which he enjoys a great deal, and he tries really hard to not get attached to anyone at all.

Strengths:

Earnest -- No matter what it may look like to everyone else, Rhys puts his best into whatever he chooses to do. He's very dedicated to the things that he gets into, and while he may go about things grumbling on the outside, inside is usually a whole other story. When he believes in something he will put his everything into it to make sure he gets the best results that he can. He is maybe a little naive in that he believes that everything will always turn out the way he wants as long as he tries hard enough, but failure in turn only makes him try even harder until he does succeed.

Trooper -- For Rhys, being down and out is not something that he willingly embraces, and when it happens to him he tries to keep moving anyway. It's during the bad times that he'll shine the brightest, whether it's the most dramatic situation or the simplest one. Did he wake up late? Did someone invade his space? Did someone steal his food? Whatever the case, in any and all situations he tries his best to believe in not giving up or backing down. He believes in perseverance and working hard to achieve his goals. This is what keeps him going every single day.

Faults:

Willful -- Rhys typically cannot be told what to do. Rather, you can talk all you want but he probably won't be listening to you so it's better to just save your breath. He tends to do what he wants, when he wants and how he wants to do it, even if he's told that there are better or more efficient ways to get something done. He isn't much of a team player because of this, and would much rather work by himself then have to deal with other people. The only time reason will ever get through to him is if he's already tried his way and failed, and he needs another way.

Cautious -- Relationships are hard enough to navigate even without the kind of background that he has, but for Rhys, who very strongly believes that anyone he gets close to will die because he's a deathbringer, they may as well be impossible. His experiences have molded his mindset in such a way that he keeps everyone, even those that are nice to him and consider him a friend, an arm's length away to keep them safe. Even if he has to go on for the rest of his life not having any friends, he would rather live that way than risk someone dying because of his bad, bad luck.

RP Prompt:

Quote:
Oh no! Your Nightmare has lost something that is very dear them! What have they lost, and how do they react?

A lone bracelet was smushed in the very far back portion of a nightstand in the room of a particular freshling. He had tucked it away for safekeeping because it was such a treasured item, but in his need for absolute security and certainty that no one but him would find the trinket, he had pulled the drawer too far out and shoved the bracelet too far back that it fell into the crevice between the back of the drawer and the back of the nightstand.

There were tears in his eyes as he turned his room upside down.

And yes, including his roommate's side, but he really wasn't paying attention to the stuff he was going through. Rhys was determined to find that bracelet, and he would find it even if it took him all night. Even if it meant he bothered the teachers and faculty to ask every single other person who might have access to his room, and even every other student in the Academy, then he would do it if it meant he could find that bracelet.

"It's all I have left," he murmured very quietly to himself, "I can't lose it. It can't be gone. It's all I have left..." The freshling repeated these lines almost like a chant, a steady stream of crocodile tears falling soon enough as he continued to struggle and search. And he had no plans of stopping. Not now, not ever. The tears eventually dried and the search went on only whenever he had free time, but it wouldn't ever stop. They would all see that there was nothing anyone could do to convince him to stop until he found that bracelet.

It was, after all, all that he had left of his birth parents. A birthday gift, and the last one he ever got from them.
