The years were whirring past. BonBon sat on the cement ledge of a small sectioned off garden. The evening was quiet, and the only sound to be heard for miles was the occasional hum of magic. The world was so filled with it, wasn't it? Closer towards the country the world seemed so different. The stars were far brighter and the scenery more quaint.
The family had decided to go camping, and BonBon had been excited for a weekend away from the town. She had not, however, expected for things to go so south. BonBon had gotten in to an argument with one of her sisters and had run off, heading back towards town.
She was tired. Out of spoons to keep going. So now, here she was, they fey-demon sitting on the ledge and sighing gently to herself.
--
Abigail had gotten the panicked text from BonBon and had whipped herself out of bed, grabbing a small backpack of comfort snacks and flashlights to guide them home. She wanted to make sure that BonBon would be well taken care of, and tried to pre-determine her needs before she arrived.
Abi had known exactly where BonBon had stopped. It was a spot the two of them liked to go and play when they were younger together. Abigail hated knowing that something was upsetting BonBon so much that she felt the need to run away from her family, but the hybrid was concerned that they'd be in serious trouble once reunited with her mother.
The hybrid could see the pastel coloured fey-demon sitting hunched all alone in the dark. Abigail couldn't help but to smile at the sight of her. Even when sad, the girl was still incredibly adorable.
“Bonnie ... ?”
--
BonBon's head lifted suddenly, eyes wide. The sudden sound spooked the girl, the area having been so quiet previously. “Hmn!?” It was an instinctual sound that escaped her, but the thick, massive pink curls soothed the fey-demon on sight. BonBon gave a hefty sigh as she pushed herself to her feet.
“Abi! Not gonna lie, you scared me ... ” BonBon admitted with a nervous laugh. “Thanks ... for coming. Without asking too many questions. I appreciate it.” BonBon smoothed out her skirt, giving another sigh, this time far more gentle than the last.
“Did you ... happen to bring food?”
--
Bingo. Abigail's smile widened in to a grin as she let the bag slip from around her shoulder, unzipping her backpack to grab out the granola bars and fruit cups. She could see BonBon wiggle excitedly at the sight of the food. Abigail didn't hesitate to pass her friend the food, BonBon tearing open the fruitcup and eating it rather unlady-like. Abigail didn't blame her. After all that walking, Abi would be hungry too.
“I brought more in case you need it.”
--
BonBon slurped at her cup, barely hearing the mention of there being more food available. The sweetness of the nectar and the cherries was enough to make her knees weak with happiness. Truly the fruit of the Gods. It made BonBon wonder which of the Nine was responsible for each of the fruits ...
Once her cup was finished, BonBon gave a happy sound, gently wiping at her sticky mouth. “Yum!” She beamed, a giant smile tearing across her face, somehow forgetting her past worries. "You always know the right thing to say, yunno that?" Bon reached for the granola bar, exchanging it for the empty fruit cup in her hand.
--
Abigail couldn't keep herself from glowing. Her cheeks flushed, hugging the empty fruit cup to her chest as the other girl gathered up her things while munching on her snack bar. For a few quiet moments, Abi watched her fiddle with her things, but soon Abigail was tossing the bag back over her shoulder (only after withdrawing the flashlights) and passed her friend a light to see in the dark.
"It's pretty dark while the lights are under repair closer to town, so I brought these so we don't get too lost in the dark." Abigail offered a reassuring glance, then flicked the switch on her flashlight. "Follow me!" she said cheerfully, turning to march along the path home.
--
Bon couldn't keep herself from giggling. It was funny, just a few short moments ago she had been so wrapped up on her family drama that she couldn't keep her mind off her swirling, dark thoughts. But now that Abigail was here, things just seemed ... better, brighter somehow.
They fey-demon flipped the switch on, quietly falling in behind her friend and gently grabbing the back of her friend's shirt. The smile Abigail cast her over her shoulder made BonBon nearly swoon.
"Weren't you afraid walking in the dark all by yourself?" She asked to take the attention away from her face.
--
Abigail hummed gently, trying her best to keep Bonnie's focus on her. BonBon had always been afraid of the dark in wide-open spaces. The flashlights would help with some of that fear, but Abigail knew that she was going to have to keep her girl distracted if she didn't want Bon to have a full-blown break down enroute to safe place.
"Not especially," she admitted, giving a small shrug of one of her shoulders. "I had other things to think about then how dark it was. I was far more worried about you out here all alone ... but I see you found a good light patch. I was wondering if you'd pick that spot out ... you always go for that garden, it seems."
--
A small, faint smile parted BonBon's lips as she toddled along behind her friend, taking in a deep breathe as she finally took a moment to take in the delicious close-to-country air. "Yah ... I managed to find it. I left in such a huff that it wasn't until I sat down and started texting you that I realized what I had just done ... I guess you can say that my temporary temper blinded me from realizing that I was storming along in the dark ... all by myself! I had a brief moment of wondering ... yunno, wondering if I was really afraid of the dark all along? Just before you got here I was starting to ... get ... kinda creeped out. But I'm glad you got here when you did!"
--
She forgot she was afraid of the dark? Well, well. That was a small victory. Abigail kept going at a steady pace, not wanting to push their luck as she lead them home. Lots of thoughts were popping in to her head, like what had caused the family dispute, and what could be so bad that Bonnie would up and leave in the middle of the night without telling her folks? But it wasn't Abi's place to ask, and she wouldn't pry. If Bons wanted to talk about it, she would in her own time. For now, Abigail was going to allow the girl this small victory. So, instead, Abigail continued her humming, their chatter having died down as the two carried on homebound, the soft melody drifting gentle through the night like a feather on the breeze. Eventually the two reached Abigail's house, and the two slipped in through her bedroom window and tucked themselves in for sleep, completely tired out from their midnight stroll.
