Ayumi had no idea what she wanted to be when she grow up. It was another one of those expectations that she just felt she couldn't meet. So many children her age knew exactly what they wanted to be or do once they left the Academy, but Ayumi just wanted to get through English. Her classes were enough to keep her preoccupied and away from the worries of tomorrow. The very idea that she might now need to start thinking about college or picking own the electives that would help her get in to her desired school was absolutely bonkers.
Ayumi had no desire to dwell on these realities. So much of her childhood was still before her. True that Junior year was soon upon her, but that did not worry her. What did worry her was the pressure that the adults seemed to put on the kids to "find their path" or their "calling". Ayumi got it. Really, she did. Giving children a direction to follow, or something to aspire to helped keep them 'on the right path' to success. In other words, it helped keep kids in check and out of trouble. Ayumi didn't need that kind of help. Ayumi was an independent thinker. She would come to her own conclusions about her life's destiny when she was ready to. Until then, Ayumi would keep to the simpler life and take it one step at a time. The chaos of school would keep her well occupied until then.
