Room 201B. Second wing of the main headquarters, a rather spacious room that served both as the Death office and the division meeting space. There had been desks there once, but there was some incident involving a barrier and some sort of unusual invasion that had turned all desks into a living bonfire lasting thirteen days and nights in the hallway until the entire main headquarters had a no desk ban.

But that was Medea, she just tolerated until she didn't. It was often a long period of tolerance too, sometimes days, months, weeks, until she realized that perhaps it was in everyone's best interest that these issues were fixed.

The Death Division leader despite her long, very long memory, was terrible at paperwork. Most of it was given to her assistant, and the rest existed in a queue that reached DMV levels of intolerant. Again, when things happened, they did. For everything else-

"My children," said Medea entirely unironically as the Death Hunters would walk in to see fireproof folding chairs, just the folding chairs, lined up in rows, "Make yourself comfortable. Our meeting will begin soon, make sure you do grab an information pamphlet." She didn't look any older than her early thirties, so the children comment was a little bizarre, but Medea had never had been a trendsetter by any standard. "Please, your assignments, we have so much to share."

She sat on her non flammable desk, literally on the desk, lazily, semi-leaning forward, but her smile was tense.

DEATH DIVISION MEETING:

Welcome to the Death division meeting. This is where all characters start for week 2! All you need to do here is RP/fulfill the a reaction post of your character attending the meeting and then you can get started on all the prp/solo/orps for week 2. We also ask if characters can come back to fill the division assessment (or do it ASAP), seen on the second post, which grants bonus rewards as part of the MAIN STORYLINE. Sometimes Hunters want funding/approval for additional division related projects You can post requests for these in this thread and quote the GMs of this thread. For example: I'd like extra money to reform an abandoned base in the Arctic.

gaia_crown [ DEATH DIVISION GMS ]
gaia_star [ Medea ] rped by Zoobey
gaia_star [ Alek ] rped by Danse-hexe

gaia_crown [ DIVISION ASSESSMENT ] Each division also has a division assessment. This is part of your character's MAIN STORYLINE task for their Week 2 beginning. Simply do the task in this thread, and rp out as necessary. You can run prps/orps/solos outside of this thread too before OR after completing the assessment, definitely don't let it wall you from doing other things as well for your week 2 character!

gaia_crown [ ADDITIONAL IC INFO : An information pamphlet has been handed out that reads so the below. Each one is hand-written in calligraphy.

DEATH MEETING PAMPHLET

As you all know, all portals have restricted access unless for external missions (EM). In addition, hot water is currently out on the first floor of the dorms, and knitting lessons this week have been cancelled due weather.

Have a nice day!

gaia_crown [ DIVISION ROLES : It may be hard to understand what your character has to do

  • Trainee : sparring, grunt work primarily on the island, learning about enemies and Deus history, assisting in missions and helping file mission reports, archiving, databasing (digitally as well), shadowing intermediate/full Death Hunters.

  • Intermediate: Surveillance for new and existing missions, Halloween investigations, weapons candidacy research, taking the first steps toward narrowing your areas of interest, small personal project (proposals are likely to get modest funding and resources)

  • Full : Full Death Hunters run on their own independent schedules. They are expected to take on as many projects as possible involving surveillance and investigating existing and new threats, as well as report back to the main HQ occasionally for updates or filing for additional help for more severe tasks. Some Death Hunters keep their own database/archives for information they have collected: sharing with others and updating other divisions as well is integral.

  • Specialized : specialized and full are considered the same rank outside of the context of said specialization. Death specialists get their own small office in the same wing as the Death HQ and often are considered the experts in terms of consultation regarding existing missions and threats. Each specialist runs independently of each other, yet as they are solely responsible for keeping updated/ informed on the matter they're investigating, they are required to put everything on the line to obtain what is necessary for Deus. Any classified information or artifacts retrieved are stored directly at HQ, under Medea's supervision.

Ie: Investigating a legacy remnant, investigating an anti-Deus terrorist organization, investigating potential Horsemen hideouts in the Human world, etc etc.

(If you're having any issues or questions please post in the QNA or rp anything out and quote Zoobey, or even ICly ask! )

[ DEATH DIVISION EVALUATION: SCAVENGER HUNTING ]

The Death division is all about stealth, recon, espionage - the really cool stuff. Stuff you see in movies or games.
In order to prove your worth and demonstrate your superior powers of observation, your goal is to complete a Capture the Flag challenge and submit two hidden codes to Alek!

    gaia_crown [ THE TRAINING COURSE ]

    gaia_star [ PART 1 ] a mysterious box
A text message pops up on your phone with a set of coordinates, and nothing else. Roll 2d4 to determine the coordinates you get.

Almost as if your location is being tracked, once you reach the first set of coordinates, you receive a message with a second set of coordinates.

Alternatively, you can roll 4d4 to get both sets of coordinates at the same time!
      If you get the same square both times, you can choose to adjust either the X or Y coordinate by 1. ( eg. 4 - 2 could become 4 - 3 / 4 - 1 / 1 - 2 / 3 - 2 )

      +-------+-------+-------+-------+
      | 1 - 1 | 1 - 2 | 1 - 3 | 1 - 4 |
      | phone | pizza | watch | photo |
      +-------+-------+-------+-------+
      | 2 - 1 | 2 - 2 | 2 - 3 | 2 - 4 |
      | pizza | empty | knife | cards |
      +-------+-------+-------+-------+
      | 3 - 1 | 3 - 2 | 3 - 3 | 3 - 4 |
      | drive | cards | phone | empty |
      +-------+-------+-------+-------+
      | 4 - 1 | 4 - 2 | 4 - 3 | 4 - 4 |
      | photo | knife | drive | watch |
      +-------+-------+-------+-------+

On surveying the given location, you find a mysterious box. The contents of the box depend on the grid above.

    • Phone - A standard deus-issued phone. It appears to be locked.
    • Pizza - Mmmm. Pepperoni and cheese pizza. It once had the potential to be delicious, but is now only stale.
    • Watch - An old watch. The glass is cracked, but the watch is still ticking merrily away.
    • Photo - It doesn't look like anything. The person that took this photo was presumably not very good at taking photos.
    • Knife - A rusty knife with what looks like stains on it.
    • Cards - A deck of tarot cards.
    • Drive - Just your run of the mill runic flash drive.
    • Empty - There's some fluff at the bottom of the box, but nothing else. You grab the box anyway!

    gaia_star [ PART 2 the investigation
Armed with your two items, you proceed to investigate them. Roll 2d4 to determine the final outcome of your analysis of each item!
If you roll double numbers ( eg. 2,2 / 3,3 etc) add 2 points to your score, up to a maximum of 10 points!

      Phone
[ 1 - FAIL ] You try to unlock the phone by tapping in random numbers. It beeps angrily at you and explodes in your hands.
[ 2 - OKAY ] The owner of the phone locates you using Find My hPhone. You manage to convince them you didn't steal it, and they leave you in one piece.
[ 3 - NICE ] After some careful investigation, you unlock the phone and look around. All the messages on the phone just look like gibberish! Except one. It's a.. 30% off discount code for a lawnmower: "Exclusive Wrench".
[ 4 - OMG! ] In addition to unlocking the phone, you find a suspicious encrypted file and manage to decrypt it. The flag is "Earthquake Cows". Go you!

      Pizza
[ 1 - FAIL ] You throw the pizza away. I mean.. who would eat that?
[ 2 - OKAY ] You give the pizza a sniff and.. you know, it seems like it might still be edible. People used to preserve food in the ground, right? You heat up the pizza and eat it. You finally understand the bitter taste of regret. Lesson learned!
[ 3 - NICE ] You inspect the pizza closely. Then you flip the pizza box over. There's a post-it note stuck to the bottom, that says "Squash Bike".
[ 4 - OMG! ] You notice a pattern in the pepperoni. Is it .. could it be .. a secret code? IT IS! The flag is "Spicy Grandmother".

      Watch
[ 1 - FAIL ] You swing the watch by its chain as you walk, but it slips off your hand and flies off into the distance. Good job, you.
[ 2 - OKAY ] You trade the watch to someone else for a bag of potato chips (or anything trivial of your choice). That.. that doesn't even.. well, I hope you're happy anyway.
[ 3 - NICE ] You check the watch over thoroughly and notice an inscription on the side: "Memorise Twist"
[ 4 - OMG! ] You crack the watch open and tip all the contents out. You arrange them in order of size, only to find that the letters scratched onto each cog spell out "Harsh Umbrella".

      Photo
[ 1 - FAIL ] You attempt to hold the photo over a small flame to look for any invisible words. Good idea.... but you end up accidentally burning the photo. Oops.
[ 2 - OKAY ] You frame the photo and hang it on your wall. This counts as abstract art, right?
[ 3 - NICE ] You place the photo under blacklight, and find the code "Acidic Wool" scrawled messily over it. Looks like there were invisible words after all!
[ 4 - OMG! ] Inspired by crime dramas on TV, you scan the picture in, and perform a series of zoom-ins and enhances. It pays off: you notice tiny text saying "Shrill Bulb".

      Knife
[ 1 - FAIL ] While inspecting the knife, you accidentally cut yourself.
[ 2 - OKAY ] You clean the knife up, but while you're polishing it...you break it. Guess you scrubbed too hard!
[ 3 - NICE ] You clean the knife up, polishing all the marks off it. When it's all clean and gleaming, you notice the words "Aggressive Calculator" along the edge of the blade.
[ 4 - OMG! ] You correctly guess that the knife - a kitchen knife - indicates you should search around the cafeteria for a clue. You follow a trail of fake ketchup bloodstains to the code "Lucky Violet" also written in ketchup.

      Cards
[ 1 - FAIL ] You don't notice anything special about them, so you decide to take them inside for a closer look. On your way, you drop them in a puddle.
[ 2 - OKAY ] You get extremely excited by the tarot cards, and learn to read them. This, unfortunately, doesn't actually help with the goal.
[ 3 - NICE ] On shuffling through the deck, you notice that some of the letters on the cards are coloured differently. Putting them together gets you the code "Riot Chess".
[ 4 - OMG! ] You notice that one particular card is more faded than the others. It's also slightly thicker. You peel it apart to find the words "Impartial Sweater".

      Drive
[ 1 - FAIL ] You plug the flash drive into a computer, and the computer bluescreens immediately. Nice.
[ 2 - OKAY ] You plug the flash drive into a computer, and browse through the files. Unfortunately, they're all encrypted.
[ 3 - NICE ] You plug the flash drive into a computer, and browse through the files, which you've decrypted. You find the code: "Sparkle Cheese".
[ 4 - OMG! ] You boot from the flash drive. A text-based game loads and you play through it. At the end, instead of GAME OVER, the words "Quick Crayon" are displayed on the screen.

      Empty
[ 1 - FAIL ] You throw the box out without a second thought. Apparently you have no spidey senses.
[ 2 - OKAY ] You correctly guess that the fluff is hint that you should check out minipets. Unfortunately, when you place the box down on the floor of the minipets area in the Life labs, a stray cannon cat decides to claim it. At least it's cute, right?
[ 3 - NICE ] You unfold the cardboard box. In a small corner, you find the words "Competition Wax".
[ 4 - OMG! ] You correctly guess that the fluff is a hint that you should check out minipets. On checking out the life labs, you notice a subtle sequence of clues that lead you to the code "Dusty Icicle" printed on a file.

    Yao Ming

Death Division was a division of precision. A division of careful, studious thought. A division that was fully and completely intended to be involved in a great deal of preparation, research, intelligence, sharp wit, and, above all, intelligence.

It was severely lacking in almost all of these things, most notably the latter. Yao stood now in the back of the room, arms folded across his chest, looking more than a little annoyed at the act that a) Medea was once more calling them her children; and b), the fact that they were using folding chairs.

He was trying to overlook both of these things. Yao ignored the very literal little voice in his head that was telling him to behave and instead inched his way over towards one of the chairs in question, giving it a look that could have been anything from one layer of disgust to three. He debated pulling out a handkerchief to dust off the damn thing, but that would have drawn too much attention.

Instead, he sat. And waited, crossing one long leg over the other, the information pamphlet held loosely in Yao's hand. He flipped it a little warily, staring down at the glossy pages, and then neatly folded it back up and tucked it into an inner pocket of his coat.

< Don't you wanna read it? > Glade asked, the selkie's voice wafting in and out of his thoughts. Yao made a derisive noise in the back of his throat.

No, he thought back, annoyed, but Glade was hardly ever perturbed by his partner's consistently low tolerance level. He made a sound that could have possibly been a laugh, or maybe it was a snort, and said, < It can't be THAT bad, she's just looking out for you. >

Then she should stop calling us her children, Yao thought, and folded his arms resolutely over his chest again.

Ruth had to steel herself to attend the meeting. Truthfully she had to steel herself to attend any meeting that involved more than one person and guess what, she was that one person. Would that she could, she would have not attended altogether and claimed she had but she also disliked drawing negative attention (or hell any attention) to herself. And while absence usually tended to go ignored, when it came to meetings it was one of the most noticeable things ever.

So for the sake of blending in and not being labeled a troublemaker (or someone to notice), she was there seated on the fireproof folding chairs. A part of her wanted to test just how fireproof said chairs were but the blonde also made a rule never to smoke in meetings. She'd done it the first few times when she was but a wee trainee and completely ignorant of the way Deus and its people worked. Apparently some saw it as an opening for a conversation that extended beyond "Hey do you have a light or a spare stick I can buy off you?"

Ruth did make sure to sit somewhere in the middle, not too near the front but not too far in the back. The comfortable middle ground where she wouldn't be perceived as much of anything was perfect. She also took a pamphlet, read through it and hissed a series of cuss words beneath her breath that hot water was still unavailable. This was unacceptable to her more than the cancelled knitting lessons.

    Nena

The problem with division meetings ask happening on the same day, and at the same time, was that it made it utterly impossible for Nena to find someone available, capable, and trusted enough to watch a certain incrediblely young trainee in training. This meant that when Nena arrived, the was a wabbly little toddler clinging to one of her hands as the toddler along beside her. The child in question, a rescuee from a nightmarish mission, had been in the care of the pale haired woman for about nine months now, and send to be doing just fine.

"I'm sorry." It was directed at Medea. "There wasn't anyone available to watch her." Nena flashed her lead an apologetic smile as she scooped the little girl up into her arms, grabbed one of the information packets, and headed back to take a seat not terribly far from Yoa.

"You know," she said softly to him, amused. "The door expression didn't really suit you."

    Yao Ming

Glade was still making a lot of mess and noise inside of Yao's head. He disliked having the constant presence of the selkie always persisting, especially when Glade seemed disinclined to actually listen and instead going off on random tangents while Yao himself was attempting to work.

It was irritating. And there was little he could do about it, which made it all the more irritating.

Nena's comment made Yao's head swivel in her direction. If Yao had been any other person, he might have snorted, but he was much too dignified (in his head) to do that sort of thing, so instead he merely gave the woman a serene smile.

"You're right," he said airily, and waved a hand. "Clearly the only expression I need is the intelligent one I already have."

    [ alek ]

The seat in the very middle of the front row was occupied by a tall woman with dark hair tied into an unreasonably messy ponytail. She gazed intensely and lovingly up at the death division leader as she knitted steadily away.

The seat to her right was taken up by a single notebook.

On the seat to her left sat a small bag full of yarn.

Anepou stalked into the room, in a seriously pissed off mood. All of his sewing supplies were gone. All of his unfinished projects, also gone. His other clothes, gone. And he couldn't take a hot shower. When he picked up the pamphlet, he glowered at the nearest chairs suspiciously, wondering if they'd been properly cleaned, before flopping down into the seat, still glowering. When he opened the pamphlet, and saw that hot water was still unavailable on the first floor, he accidentally spoke his thoughts aloud. "Oh for ******** sake, I can't cope, I need to get clean, dammit..." He crossed his right leg over his left knee, and leaned back, his right foot twitching in his very clear anxiety over the lack of hot showers.

He also was doing his best to ignore Kamilah's voice in his head, because while she was TRYING to sooth him, right now she wasn't helping. He was way too anxious over the feeling that he was covered in dirt and germs. He took two hot showers a day for a REASON, and it wasn't because they were merely relaxing. He needed that to keep himself from going into a complete germaphobic anxiety attack, and he was currently holding one off by pure willpower alone. He knew they weren't doing it on purpose, they couldn't control hurricanes... But it still was verrrrrrrrrrry hard on him to not consider the possibility of going and taking a mission cough cough that might accidentally cough cough put him somewhere with a shower.

Before he went totally ape, screaming nonsense about some one named Dorothy.

Nena just smirked at Yao as she adjusted the the baby on her lap and pulled a teething toy from one of her pockets to keep her entertained. "Oh, is that what that is? I thought perhaps you might have sat on a stick." She grinned at him impishly. "Gotten it stuck."

Vallie was making soft, 'da' sounds, playing with the toes of her shoes. Delightfully oblivious that anything else that might have been going on.

"You're so stiff." And it was said with all the fondness in the world.

Then, since what registered in his head after a quick look around to take in some of what was happening here right now told him he might be running early, Dan decidedly reckoned he could maybe address the scavenger hunt challenge first and still get back here on time for the meeting's start.

He had received two sets of coordinates: 4-3 followed by 3-2. When he followed the direction of the first set, a drive was what he located, and in following the second set, he was led to a deck of tarot cards; he examined both items more closely before he headed back to the meeting location.

Yeah, there still was just a small crowd so far that has assembled for a supposed discussion; on what depth of topics and matters of focus, those remained to be revealed.

However, Dan's focus right now was to address his new queries with regards to the scavenger hunting outcomes he encountered.

And so, the intermediate trainee next moved toward the table where the orator was stationed while deliberating about who he should ask about his questions. Furthermore, he noticed a front row chair with yarn near someone seated in another chair before said table. Moreover, that a notebook was moved from a seat being occupied at that same row registered in Dan's observations as well. And, apparently Al, who once in a while provided commentary that usually took note of the surroundings, made similar observations because Dan telepathically caught the weapon's voiced words: That might be a reserved seat, too.

With "Impartial Sweater" facing up on the tarot deck in an out stretched palm and the runic flash drive offered in the hold of his other hand, Dan specified each as he ended up speaking to the grouping around the table as a whole, "Hello and excuse me, I have some questions. I retrieved these words and a computer bluescreen from the sites of the coordinates I received. To finish the assessment, do I need to submit these? Or, do these results mean I have to take the scavenger hunting evaluation assignment again?"

Medea gave Nena a thin smile as she watched the clusters of information pamphlets slide, half their beautifully handwritten papers just lying on the floor.

She looked even more distressed as Dan sauntered right up and stepped on one of the elaborately handwritten pamphlets. "Yes," she finally managed, vaguely, not really responding to anything, hoping a fastidious unbreaking eye contact with Alek would help solve this situation.

    [ Alek ]

The death division assistant finally broke eye contact with her beloved Medea when Reign came to sit beside her.

"Hey," she replied, the strange expression on her face almost reminiscent of a fond smile. "Doing ok after the hurricane and stuff?"

Any softness in her demeanour evaporated immediately when Dan approached, replaced with the usual scowl she reserved for .. everyone else.

"No," she said, although what she was saying no to was unclear. "And pick those up." Alek gestured vaguely toward the pamphlets and turned back to her knitting.

"Quietly," she said, as an afterthought, as if it was something that needed clarification, and then winked conspiratorially at Medea.

Dan looked toward Medea when he was somewhat, maybe, addressed, and then, likewise looked toward Alek before his gaze moved to the pamphlets on the floor. Facial expression specifics about both individuals respectively had registered in his observations, however he did not speak in more detail with regards to anything. Instead he offered a single word in reply upon accepting a given instruction.

"Alright," his bewilderment was slightly uncovered in the tone of his voice when he spoke his answer in turn; his gaze then went up to briefly seesaw once between the people who comprised of this present exchange with him and then his eyes moved again to the papers specified to him as he pocketed the items he had asked about and knelt onto one knee while carefully gathering the pages. After he stood back up with the stack in his hands, he slowly straightened the cluster with as little sound as he could manage in endeavoring for more alignment before placing said picked up pamphlets lightly on the edge of the table.

He seated himself in one of the nearest available seats in the front row, wondering if his question was answered somehow, perhaps like one of the codes the scavenger hunt intended to be 'found.' Was he supposed to figure out how to add up body language as well as expressions in the absence of more words in hunter conversations to identify more exactness? Or, was he just excessively trying to think things through about what had just gone on right now too much and there may just be an undercurrent of tension and stress kept as under wraps as possible in the aftermath of flooding and a whole slew of bizarre weather-related and not so weather-related happenings?

Hmm, a thoughtful noise by Al sounded in his head but the axe spoke no further words, not unusual and that was fine by Dan as he was also accustomed and glad that juggling external and mental conversations was not a challenge he encountered more frequently with the weapon he could telepathically communicate with. And, perhaps this meeting will reveal further answers to clear up some of the confusion pertaining to all that's been going on.
