& Gaddok found a nice shaded spot to perch in the marketplace and just watch. It was truly fascinating exploring the markets of a new country, and Oba had some of the biggest he had ever seen... Had he begun exploring them sooner he would have likely doubled his profits easily... But that was neither here nor there. Presently he was just trying to keep busy, keep distracted from what he had done and what he left behind; he had to, had to heal, to move past it all. Someday he'd go back, someday when he was better; though lately it wasn't looking good.
One thing he did notice in all his people watching was the surprising blend of earthlings in the marketplace. Granted it was a large gathering where you could see many interesting things; a high tourist attraction, but it was Oba. They were so anti-every-other-race-not-theirs... It was good to see the growth they had made since those dark times.
People watching aside, he pushed off his perch and made his way through the crowd back to Moishye's cart, “She's a bit young for you, don't you think?” He chuckled, noting the fixation his shifter friend had had on a hybrid, “It's good to be ambitious but-” Gaddok trailed off after seeing the distressing look in Moishye's eyes, “What's going on?”Moishye had been unpacking his cart to display his wares to the busy market when he paused at Gaddok's question. Chewing on the inside of his cheek as he tried to think of the best way to say what he was thinking without having to explain himself, “I have reason to believe... That woman there... is my daughter.” “And what brought this on?” Gaddok snorted while straightening his posture, “She doesn't really look anything like you.” He looked over at the Hybrid again and honestly couldn't figure out what she was exactly; Blonde, tan, part alkidike – the eyes gave it away. Whatever she was there was a certain quirky attractiveness to her. “Go talk to her.” he gave the shifter an encouraging nudge, “I'll set up. If she is your daughter you should tell her.”Moishye jolted with the surprise that Gaddok would suggest such a thing, “I can't!” he exclaimed, “Do you have any idea how insane that sounds!?” His voice was a mixture of surprise and anger, “ “Hey there, I know you don't know me, but I have reason to believe I'm your father... I know its been years and I haven't made any effort to connect with you, but here I am!” .” He mimicked the conversation with a jig of mockery then finished off his performance with an eye roll. Gaddok shifted on his feet as he observed the shifter's display of annoyance and shrugged, “Fine, You won't go say something; I will.” shoving off from the cart he ducked into the crowd and snickered as he dodged Moishye's continuous efforts to stop him.[1/10]

It had been turning out to be a fairly lucrative day in the markets of Sulburi, and Sawenah was pleased to have coin flowing in once again. It may have been a rough start ever since she purchased the cart, but once she had it set up there has been an increase in the interest in her product. Despite its ragged appearance, the cart gave her a semi-permanent location where people could find her. Apparently, it also gave her customers some certainty about her and definitely made her look a little more professional. Perhaps after today’s sales, she could find scout out some decent tint to try and spruce up the aged wood.
To her surprise, a noblewoman, clearly adorned with an assortment of crystals and precious metals, draped in silks and feathers approached. Sawenah was taken aback by her beauty and completely flattered that she would even consider perusing her wares. The woman fanned herself with the plumes of feathers and gave a heavy sigh as her eyes scanned the product, clearly searching for something specific. With a warm smile, Sawenah placed her current piece on hold and greeted the woman, “Good day, miss~ Is there something I can help you find?”

Thoroughly impressed with his evasion skills, Gaddok smirked over his shoulder at Moishye who had been lost back in the crowd and eventually gave up and returned to setting up his stall. Turning his attention back to the Hybrid, Gaddok approached the cart, and before he could even begin to speak he was cut off by the most atrociously gaudy sight… An Oban noblewoman approached the Hybrids cart and nearly spat down at the woman with her eyes. The air about this woman was enough to make his stomach churn, his skin crawl. This was the perfect example of what he thought of when he heard ‘Oba’.The woman grimaced at the kind greeting the hybrid gave her and replied, “I’m looking for something... Of a green or blue tone.” her eyes ran over each piece with a growing disgust. He could scarcely imagine the thoughts rolling through her head. Realizing the Hybrid woman was enthralled by the fashion disaster and hadn’t noticed his approach, Gaddok stuck to the side of the cart, his form mostly hidden by the upright supports of the cart. This wasn’t going to go well and he knew it, he wanted to stay close so that when the harpy of a creature tried to tear down this poor upstarting merchant’s hopes and dreams he could smite down the wicked woman.

“I’m looking for something… Of a green or blue tone.” The woman replied while continue to look over the trinkets before her. “Hmmm,” Sawenah began, trying not to rise from her stool for fear she might scare the woman off, “I’m not sure I have too many pieces of that color.” There hadn’t been much demand, being as this was Oba and the colors were more of a red, purple, gold nature. “I could keep an eye out and present you with a piece when I find something more suited to your needs.” She offered in hopes of keeping this woman’s attention. The noble sighed and hid her face with her fan, “Oh, how unfortunate… I was so looking forward to presenting it to my pet when he arrived this afternoon.” she shifted to the other side of the cart, pushing past the other earthling looking at her cart, “Hmm, What about the piece around your neck there.” She asked, making her way back to Sawenah to take the crystal in her delicate fingertips. “That should do quite nicely. It would accent his markings perfectly.” She chimed, her eyes flickering with delight, “How much?” She inquired. [2/10]

Being pushed out of place by the Oban scum, Gaddok clenched his fist and bit hard on his tongue. So many words were boiling to the surface, ready to break way into a tongue lashing that would bring shock and horror to the masses. Just as he was about to let her have it, the woman’s dagger-like nails grasped the hybrid’s necklace, “How much?” She sneered clutching tightly to the teardrop stone, ready to rip it from her neck. Gaddok’s ears burned from the fury he felt for this woman, ‘Of all the nerve!’ he snarled as the thought crossed his mind, ‘Such an entitled, worthless, earthling…’ It was quickly becoming apparent that he held a bit of prejudice against the Obans for their part in the Matori’s suffering, but how can a race of people be so contempt to continuously look down on others and find people less valuable for their differences. The entire attitude rubbed him the wrong way.Moishye stepped up behind Gaddok and grabbed his arm, “Stay out of this...” he warned, “that woman probably has friends in high places and the last thing you need is to draw attention to yourself after the s**t you pulled in Sauti.” The merchant was updated with his past antics on their trip through the desert together, and recently there has been a message circulating the grand continent of Tendaji that Zena is looking to have him tried for attempted murder. “Surely she can handle herself if she’s made it this far, yes?” Moishye insisted, still trying to quell Gaddok's rage [3/10]

Sawenah laughed nervously while shifting to lean away from the woman, “I apologize miss, but this one is not for sale. As I said earlier, I would be more than happy to inform you when I have found something to your liki-”The woman tightened her grip on the necklace pulled down, forcing the hybrid back to her original sitting position, “Everything has a price. I want this one. How much?” she crooned, insisting that this necklace be hers, no matter the cost. Sawenah's eyes narrowed as she looked at the noblewoman, It was becoming apparent to her that she wasn’t going to take ‘no’ for an answer. Rising to her feet she stared down at the earthing and clearly announced her words, “It’s. Not. For. Sale.”The noblewoman swallowed hard as she stared up at the lumbering form that rose above her. It was clear the hybrid was annoyed and the woman felt threatened by her presence. Swiftly retracting her hand from the hybrid the woman cried, “Guards!~ Guards! She’s threatening me! Guaaaarrds!”[3/10]

Gaddok couldn’t believe what he was seeing. The noblewoman was determined to have that poor girl’s necklace! Placing a hand to Moishye’s chest, Gaddok gave him a gentle shove as he stepped past him to give the noblewoman a piece of his mind… and then the hybrid stood up. Chi’s tears she was tall; intimidatingly so. Aside from Warren he hadn’t seen too many earthlings his height. Gaddok took a step back and considered for a moment that maybe she may have this covered… and then the noblewoman started squawking.“Gaddok, you need to get out of her!” Moishye demanded while grabbing his arm, “If they find out who you are then they will arrest you!”His concerned was appreciated, but not necessary. “C’mon~” he scoffed, “You really think those guards will have the time to-” he trailed off as he noticed two burly men with spears approaching, “You’ve gotta be shitting me.”Moishye shook his head and huffed as he stepped up and met the guards, “Good afternoon, Sirs.” He purred, putting forward his best charismatic persona, “ I-I believe there has been a grave misunderstanding. Surely there is no need for your involvement in the matter~” Moishye was wringing his hands, a nervous tick, as he continued, “Let us merchant’s work it out.”[4/10]

Sawenah noticed the two men who came out of nowhere, a shifter male and tall leaf earthling maybe? It was surprising to see someone as tall as he, but it seemed as though their timely arrival wasn’t coincidence; there was something more to this… The guard looked to Moishye as he spoke, then over to the noblewoman, “Miss, What is going on here...” he asked tersely, clearly annoyed with his involvement in this petty matter. “She took my coin, and refuses to give me the item I have purchased!” She cried, indicating the coin pouch that had been snuck onto the ledge of the merchant’s cart, “See! It’s right there!” she pointed to it with insistence, “I purchased the necklace and when I went to claim it she stood up and threatened me!” Sawenah stared at the coin pouch dumbfounded, “I never accepted that.” she protested, “and I told her the necklace was not for sale. I didn’t even make it! It was a gift!” her face burned with rage as she had so many false accusations flung at her, “I even offered to notify her when I find something to her liking in stock!” her body trembled as the situation became clear to her… It was her word against this noblewoman, and there was no way a bunch of Oban guards were going to back a hybrid.

Gaddok slipped a merchant medallion from his pocket and placed it on the shoddy cart and scooped up the noblewoman’s coin as he began formulating a plan to get Moishye some time with this hybrid and keep them all out of the stocks. Stepping up beside his Shifter companion, Gaddok placed a hand firmly on Moishye’s shoulder as he continue to plead with the guards over the sticky situation. “The Noblewoman placed the coin on the stall as she viewed the necklaces; it wasn’t payment, merely placed while she looked at the wares.” Gaddok explained while placing the coin in the guard’s palm to be returned to the woman, “This woman works for my company,” He indicated to the metal medallion hanging from the stall. “We had heard about the poor performance of this stall particularly over the last few months and came to investigate.” He was irritated that he had to spin the story this way, but if it got the guards to leave with the woman the goal was achieved. “Clearly this incident has brought to light certain issues we can address and with time we will resolve them, I assure you.”The guard looked Gaddok up and down suspiciously, arched his brow and then handed the coin over to the noblewoman, “Here’s your coin, miss. I suggest you take your business to a legitimate vendor.” He announced while adjusting the waist of his pants and arching his back, “There are plenty of oban run shops around and I’m sure they sell similar products. You’ll find what you are looking for.” Moishye opened his mouth to protest Gaddok’s claim but was quickly shut down by the killing glance from Gaddok’s olive eyes, “Leave it.” he snarled as the guard escorted the noblewoman away with a sneer.

Sawenah watched as the woman was escorted away from the stall and her stomach sank. All that work put into her shop only for this man to come out of nowhere and delegitimize all she worked to achieve! Her face burned with rage as she stomped passed the shifter and got up in the leaf earthlings face, “How dare you~” She seethed while prodding his shoulder with a pointed finger, “I have worked for months on this… All of this! Raised this from nothing more than a thought in my head. Starved myself to come up with the coin for this cart… and when I finally get noticed by a noblewoman you come in and take it all away!” Her voice had worked up to a roar as the rage burst forth from her.Moishye grabbed her arms and pulled her back from Gaddok before anything more could be said, “Listen, I know it seems like we ruined this… and I promise we will make it up to you, but this is actually all my fault.” he admitted sheepishly, “I wanted to come over and talk to you, have wanted to come over and talk to you for some time, but could never figure out the right time.” he began his confession as the hand-wringing began, “This oaf lacks the tact to do almost anything with any sort of grace what-so-ever, and so he bumbled across the marketplace to confront you and force an interaction between us." Suddenly becoming uncomfortable with the situation, Sawenah pulls her arms free from the shifter and backs away slowly, “I don’t know who you two are or what it is you want from me… but I think you’ve both done enough and should just go.” she was clearly rigid and uncomfortable with what the shifter had been confessing.

Gaddok snarled at the hybrid’s accusations, “How dare I?!” he exclaimed, “I just ensured you didn’t get arrested and gave a free ticket to improving this pile of rotted wood! It’s a disgrace, to be honest, and as long as I’ve tied my reputation to it-” his nostrils flared as he sucked in air to fill his lungs, “This,” he said with a collective hand wave around the cart, “Will not be acceptable.”
As Moishye pulled her back and began talking Gaddok watched the hybrid become rigid and pull away from the situation. Slapping a hand to his face, Gaddok raked his fingers through his sweat-drenched hair, “For the love of-” He approached the girl with cautious movements, “What my shortsighted friend forgot to mention is… I’m Gaddok,” he jutted a thumb over to the shifter and continued, “He’s Moishye, and while he may have just made himself sound like the biggest creep that ever walked the marketplace… He think’s you might be his long lost daughter and didn’t know how to say it.” Gaddok shot the shifter a glance and grumbled, “now was that so hard?”Moishye timidly scratched the back of his head and laughed nervously, “You had to go right out and say it, didn’t you...” “Better that than her calling the guards back because you confessed to stalking her for the last week.” “I would never!” He exclaimed as his dark face blanched slightly, “I-I didn’t mean to… I’m sorry~” Moishye lowered his head in shame as he realized the error he had made, “There is just so much I want to talk to you about… I don’t even know where to begin.”[6/10]

Sawenah watched as Moishye’s demeanor shifted, his posture slumped, and quite frankly, it was reminiscent of how she could get when she felt hopeless, defeated… Smiling softly she placed a hand on the man’s shoulder, “Well, How about we try to sort this out then…” Perching on her little stool by her cart Sawenah looked to the shifter, “All I remember is being in Sauti.” she started at the beginning of what she knew, “I spent a lot of my time with Lilah and Braka and their-” “That conniving little-” Moishye began, but bit hard on his tongue as his face burned with rage, “She’s…. Your grandmother…. And a liar it would seem.” he squeaked in that last bit despite the glare he was receiving from his leaf/wind traveling companion. “My… Grandmother.” Sawenah repeated, eyes welling with tears, “Lilah did so much for me… I can’t believe she was… she is… why wouldn’t she say anything.” she began to slowly pull her legs to her chest as she looked back on her past. Was she really that big of a burden, such a taboo that her own grandmother would turn her out into the world. Moishye looked on as his hybrid daughter withered in painful memories, and it destroyed him inside. The women of her life had written him off as this horrible person based on one half of a story; granted what he did was horrible, but it was circumstantial. He will never recover from what happened as a result of the night he spent with Lela, but it was hardly as damning as everyone made it out to be… a story for another time, in a less public place. “Lilah was one grandma... ” Sawenah murmured into her forearms that held tight to her knobby knees, “What of the other grandparent?” She had assumed she was an alkidike, considering her traits, and that Lilah clearly had no alkidike traits, “Where did she go? Why didn’t she want…. Me?” her voice trailed off as she finished her sentence. It was so painful to say, but surely that wasn’t the case. She was blowing it out of proportion, right? [6/10]

Gaddok scrubbed the back of his head and groaned, “Well, This got kind of awkward… ” He was glad that Moishye was correct in his assumption and that he was able to begin reconnecting with his daughter, but Looking for anything to draw his attention from the reunion he retreated to grab some supplies from Moishye’s cart and returned with his whittling tools, some solid boards and while shuffling through the market he managed to purchase a couple moderately sized cord reels. With some work, these would make better wheels than she had presently. As the two continued their conversation he went to work on preparing the atrocity this woman called a merchant cart. Moishye gave a sigh, “Lelani is a… difficult creature to comprehend.” he laughed nervously thinking of his very few encounters with the woman; of which he was grateful for. “After your mother gave birth… Well-” his head bowed as he scrubbed the back of his neck. Gaddok had the cart propped up as he struggled to yank the half rotted wheel off for measuring, “Alkidikes… Are protective, ruthless when it comes to the protection of their daughters and sisters. If you were seen as the reason for your mother’s death-” “Gaddok!” Moishye scolded with pleading eyes, “You don’t need to-” “Well, you weren’t being straight with her and I’m just speaking on what I know from the few encounters I’ve had with them,” he grumbled as the wheel finally came off… in two pieces. “Well, that’s… Great.” He snarled while tossing aside the fragments and finding another wheel to pry off the cart carcass. Moishye continued, “I attempted talking to Lelani when she returned to Jauhar without Lela, but I was met with nothing but hostility… Not even words, really.” He flinched while recalling the icy rage of the alkidike, “Even the months following when I would attempt to speak with her sisters… I could get no information about your whereabouts or even the fate of Lela.” Rubbing his shoulders gently, “It was impossible to get what I needed from the Alkidike, so eventually I retraced their route and made it back to Sauti.” [7/10]

“Wait” Sawenah began while throwing out her arms as though to physically stop the conversation, “You were in Sauti?” She inquired while eyeing him, “Like actually physically there... ” tears flowed steadily from her eyes. All this time she had spent as an orphan was for nothing?! All the begging, the nights she went without food, all the uncertainty… A pit formed in her stomach as she thought of all she had suffered through, all because two women hid her away from someone who actually wanted her… to raise her, be with her, love her. Moishye could see the conflict in her eyes and delicately wiped the tears from her eyes, “Sawenah, it’s not… that simple.” He averted his gaze not wanting to explain himself; not just yet. “There was a reason your grandparents hid you from me.” “What?!” Sawenah hollered while brushing aside his hand, “What reason could possibly be good enough to explain the pain I have endured!” Realizing the scene she was making, her face flushed a soft pink and she covered her mouth to muffle her sobs. “I-I’m sorry… this is just-” Her breath was sucked from her lungs as she saw the pain in her father's eyes, it was like a sucker-punch to the gut, the wounds her words inflicted, “a lot to take in?” [7/10]

Gaddok kept his hands busy and his eyes low. Their history was really none of his business, but he was grateful to be part of their reunion… He only wished there were fewer tears involved. He after swapping out the front wheels for the reel ends he had found and fitted he proceeded to rip out the worst of the rotted wood and replaced them with the wood he gathered from Moishye’s cart. It was good to be doing manual labor again. After roaming around, making deals with merchants, and just dealing with people in general he was thrilled to be able to focus on something he enjoyed again; now if he could just get his hair to cooperate. His attention was broken when he heard Sawenah’s outburst and looked up, flipping the locks blocking his view. She was being comforted by Moishye, but it would appear her cries had also caught the attention of the lingering guards; not enough to have them come over, but they were quite vigilant to their activities… More than Gaddok had desired. Pivoting on his feet, Gaddok maneuvered behind the cart and murmured, “I know this is pretty emotional and all, but perhaps we can focus on something other than the past… We’re catching unwanted attention.” Moishye cringed as he looked around and noted the two guards talking to each other while gesturing over in their area. It was vague enough that they could be discussing where to have lunch, but enough to make them nervous, “I-… Perhaps you’re right.” Giving a warm smile he let out a deep breath, “So, how is it you came to being a merchant?” Moishye asked with genuine curiosity. Gaddok continued his work but was tuned into this part of the conversation. “It is pretty ambitious for someone with little to no prior experience to undertake the mercantile trade,” he chimed in while prying hard on a half-rotted board held in place by a rusted nail. With each pull, more of his hair fell into his face, and no matter how hard he tried to blow, flip or tuck his locks back, they persisted to be loose. Fed up with their rebellion, Gaddok gathered his hair and slipped a dagger from his belt with a malicious snarl. [8/10]
