Juniper didn't know a lot about anything. Especially about themselves. Friends were not something they had bounty of, nor did they possess any sort of redeeming quality that might make them come off as coy, or quietly charismatic. They were just ... Juniper. And Juniper was nothing special. In a see of faces, Juniper was always aware that they had always felt and behaved lesser. Conversation came far easier to their peers, and the hybrid knew that if they didn't make a change soon, that perhaps they would always be a loner.
Juniper was not one filled by ambition. Not one that dreamed of an end goal, or a lavish life. Juniper's dreams had always been far quieter, usually tinted with a gloom that the child was not eager to understand. Would their life be dark? Would Juniper always feel this sense of dread and loneliness hanging over them?
The child decided to speak to their parents, to ask them if what they felt was normal. When Juniper's father looked worried and concerned, it didn't take long for the child to realize that there was something wrong with him.
A few doctor visits later, and Juniper was diagnosed with childhood depression. So ... that was why they wanted to hurt themselves? That was the explanation behind the need to slap themselves endlessly sometimes, or why Juniper banged his head against the wall because they couldn't make the voices in their head whispering 'end it, end it, end it' stop.
Would it get easier as Juniper got older? Would the magical pills really make a difference? Time would tell.
