XXXThe Story of my lifeXXX
Personality: Florence had always been a friendly and rather positive child. Even with his inability to see that well, he has always been rather upbeat and kind to others. He is more open to making friends, and enjoys the beautiful scenery of colors and fuzzy shapes that make up the extent of his vision. Florence loves family and friends. Pokemon as well. He enjoys hearing the sounds of the wingull chirping from the shore, the beautiful calls of the rattata at night and the scents of the flowers when he is gardening. Even though he is a rather positive and up beat person. Florence does have fears like everyone else. Such as the fear of becoming completely blind. Seeing nothing but darkness frightens him. To a point of extreme panic and freaking out. From a young age he had to have at least something bright in his room at night or he would go into panic attacks since he couldn't see the color of his room. He also doesn't like to be pitied by others. He knows his disability is a tough one to get past but he often becomes defensive when people treat him like a delicate flower.
He enjoys sweets as well. To a point where he will make his way into town to go to the malasada place if his parents refused to let him make his own. Sweet malasada is his number one guilty pleasure. He enjoys the sweet taste of the filling and the soft dough that makes up the surface of it. He is also rather friendly with tourists and people off island that come to melemele on visits or vacation. He enjoys singing, playing his flute, and caring for the pokemon that his parents and sisters have in the house.
Biography: Florence was born to the Redwood family. A family who originally came from Akala island back when his grandparents were young. His grandparents having moved to Melemele in their youth to start their own family and raising his mother who then married his father who took his mothers name. The first child born to the loving parents was Amanda Redwood. A spunky girl who enjoyed exploring the island and even surfing. She had always been a sports girl and it was something that Florence admired since he was little. The second born was of course Florence. the only son of the Redwood family. It hadn't been until he was a bit older that his parents realized that something was wrong with Florence's eyes. Taking him to a pediatrician to find out that he was almost completely blind.
It was hard to handle as he grew up. Not as much for Florence as it was for his family. Due to his lack of vision to a point of almost completely blind, he had been coddled and watched over by his family as if he was a child even into his teenage years. It was something that bothered Florence to this day. What bothered him the most though was when his baby sister Fiona was born. He wished so much that he could see his little sisters face and her expression's. It bothers him now then it did growing up that he couldn't distinguish features like the others. But what bothers him the most is what happens when he does try to distinguish different people. From a young age he went by the colors he saw.The blurred shapes and colors became his sight of telling who was who. So whenever someone he knew was wearing a different color, or if he was walking through town and saw a person with the same hair and skin color he knew was similar to someone he knew, he often found himself embarrassed because he would call out to them only to find out that it was a totally different person.
Because of this his parents decided to give him a few pokemon to help aid him on his adventures into town to get malasada or to visit someone he knew. That being a tiny vulpix and rattata that his older sister Amanda had gotten him during her island challenges. The two pokemon taking the role of watching over their new trainer quite seriously and often leading him around town to help him get to the places he needed to be. When it was time for Florence to take his own island challenge. The young teen was excited and wanted to leave to get his pokemon. But his parents refused to let him go. Which deeply bothered Florence. He knew his handicap was going to be hard. But he wanted so much to explore alola and be independent which he couldn't if his family refused to let him have a chance.
After two years of protest, his parents decided to allow him to go on the challenge when he turned eighteen. Now that he has come of age that his parents agreed on. He didn't waste any time escaping the house and heading towards professor kukui's lab.
Goals/Dreams: To be independent from his family. He knows its hard due to his disability but he wants to be able to do things himself without the help of other people. To finish the island trials without problems. Which is also going to be hard since he can't see that well.
