Castiel had no idea what he wanted to be. How was he supposed to be able to decide at his age what he was going to be the rest of his life? That was a lot of pressure, and quite frankly, the last thing Castiel wanted to do was spend all his time cultivating some dream job he wasn't even sure he wanted. All his peers were so sure of what they wanted to be, or had convinced themselves that everything would be handed to them on a silver plate if only they worked hard. Castiel was more realistic then all that. He knew that you could work hard and still get nothing for all your efforts. Success was being in the right place at the right time, and usually had nothing to do with how hard you worked or how far you reached for things. Castiel knew this from watching his parents on a daily basis, especially Aten. Smolder had taken the easy path, and had won his lawsuit and was rewarded with riches. He had done nothing and was one of the laziest people he had ever known, and just happened to get hit by a negligent driver. Aten, on the other hand, worked hard every day to achieve his goals. He wanted nothing more than to be the head caretaker, but unlikely in his life time would he ever receive the opportunity, what with him being older than the current head caretaker. It was a bittersweet world they lived in, and Castiel wasn't about to fall victim to it.
