[ abridged - from Amarus' Perspective ]

OOC

FICTIONAL PIECE OF WORK THIS RP IS BASED OFF: 2nd Annual Prom

TITLE OF FICTIONS: You Have to Let it Go... By Dancing
CURRENT PRP SETTING: The second annual prom, carnival themed, in which Amarus tries to remember the night she met Mot but is bad at it.

User ImageSucked into a book, Amarus found herself on a dance floor, music playing. She looked down at herself, taking in the costume-- it was unmistakable. Prom. This was prom, but not when she'd been princess, right? Before that. She thought, anyway. Her chest tightened; this was one of her most precious memories, and she was trapped inside it. Time had distorted it. She hardly knew what had happened, except for what it had meant to her. How it haunted her.

The mask was bothering her. It itched. She reached up and removed it, tying it to some piece of her clothing. That was better. No need for impracticalities such as that. "What am I supposed to do, now?" she wondered aloud, turning and looking for the student she knew she'd found last time. Would they be forced to meet again? Amarus steeled herself, and began to lope through the crowd.

Without meaning to, she was replicating the tone of her first time on the dance floor-- sliding to avoid dancers, observing, waiting.

Mot arrived quietly, slowly. He'd been feeling better since the incident, but his heart was not quite into Prom now. He'd been looking forward to going with Hel, but since he had pretty much halted their relationship, he was alone.

The reaper's eyes remained downcast, hidden behind a mask.

It wasn't until he heard murmuring from one of the lovely ladies attending that he lifte his head. "Having trouble?" He asked, a polite smile gracing his lips.

Even though she knew who she was looking for, remembered it so clearly, it still startled her to hear Mot's voice. It had been so long. She lost her words, momentarily, and could not keep the relief and sorrow from her face. She hoped he could not notice. Hoped he wouldn't. More than anything, she wanted to crawl out of this memory and escape back into the present, where the pain was at least less urgent.

"I am, yes," she admitted.

What was she supposed to say? I never really got to know you, no matter how much I wanted to, no matter how much I felt for you, and now I'm somehow forced to relive this moment of hope knowing there is none in the future? Amarus' face contorted for a moment. She sighed. She couldn't remember what she had said or done at all, and wondered if this somehow impacted the future. "Do you dance?" she asked him, remembering. They did dance, didn't they? Just the once.

He wasn't sure what it was, but the mere presence of this ghoul made him feel at ease. He smiled warmly as she expressed her concern, chuckling at her cute little pose of a warrior. "Well, dancing isn't all that different from fighting. It's just less to do with striking an opponent, but the technique is there."

He nodded softly. "I dance quite a bit. I am not busy, presently. Would you care for a one on one lesson?" This would be a delightful way to keep his mind off of Hel. Besides, he liked teaching things to others. Especially something that came easy to him like this.

He offered a hand to the pink haired ghost. "I promise it will be simple and painless."

Had she known that he thought her 'warrior pose' was cute, there likely would have been another punching incident. Amarus would have remembered, vaguely, she had tried very hard to avoid a repeat of Scarentines. Even though Danny had asked for it. Literally.

Amarus was trying very, very hard to act normal, even now. The sound of his voice. He was so close. He hadn't yet graduated, and left, and grown so distant and isolated. What had happened to him, in the end? Amarus supposed she'd meet the same fate, one day, given enough time. There was no one here to stay in touch with. "Is it not? I suppose if it involves footwork..." she answered. Somehow, what he said in response to her made sense, even now. Nailed it, she would have thought to herself, if she knew that expression.

"I would like that very much," was what her mouth said, as she took his hand. And inside, just I would not like that at all, don't touch me.

Yet her hand still slid into his. She looked at him, briefly, and looked away again. "I doubt that very much. You should not make promises you can not keep," she said, quietly, the sound nearly masked by her bells. Her aura flickered low to her skin, a mark of sadness. With her free hand, she reached to her mouth and bit into the soft ghost skin, sucking essence from the wound as discreetly as possible (which probably wasn't very discreet). She knew it would hurt, it hurt from the moment she came back here. Why did she keep revisiting this? It was gone, all of it.

Mot chuckled again. The ghoul had a delightful and colourful personality. She'd be a treat to teach. He gave a mock bow of his own, flourishing his free hand in a gentlemanly fashion. "And I promise to take any blow like a man and a gentlemen. Do your worst, little lady." He grinned lightly.

"And who's name would be on that News cast? In other words, My name is Mot. Whats yours?"

He was charming. She remembered that, now. It was a stark contrast to everything she reported herself to be, everything she assessed herself as. Amarus knew she had once been Judgement, had once been loved and loved in return-- this felt not unlike that, but nonreciprocal. No matter how much you wanted someone to love you, you could not make them. You could own the world, you could be the strongest, you could survive every obstacle thrown at you... but you could not create love where it would not exist.

She knew that, in this moment. Struggled to answer him, again. "Do my worst?" she mused, aloud. "I am Amarus, Lotus Eater, once called Judgement and once in love with you." It came out tacked onto the end of her usual greeting-- and surprised her. Surprised her, but set her free, in a way. "I am always in love with you, despite myself, despite the hopelessness of the situation. Have I done my worst, now?" she asked.

And waited. What would he have said, then? She must have sounded insane-- he didn't even know her yet, did he? She couldn't remember... but if he'd asked her name, surely they were strangers until this moment? So she had been in love with him since the first night they met...?

"I have a policy of not harming a ghoul unless it's a spar." He replied back with a smile. Then again, most ghouls could kick his a** in a fight. But he'd leave that bit out.

"Amarus. Lovely name. It's a pleasure." He nodded, and then led her into the dance floor some more.

"I'm hoping to teach you a bit of waltzing, and then just a couple of generic moves you can translate into any type of song tempo." He said calmly, taking her hand and moving it to his shoulder. He kept their other hands clasped, taking his free hand and setting it on her waist.

"Now, just repeat what I do. I'll go slowly." Mot ushered, stepping lightly to the side, back and to the side again, gently leading the ghoul into a soft paced dance, despite the music in the background. "Not so tough, right?"

And his chivalry ended at the battle ground. Amarus remembered all over why she'd felt this way. She also, with a heavy heart, realized that either he was totally ignoring her or this wasn't really Mot. This was just a memory; a slice of time, frozen. "A pleasure, indeed," she replied.

"Waltzing. I had forgotten this," she said. "No, you are right-- it is not so difficult, provided I let you lead," she said. Why was she even answering him? If this was just a fragment of memory, then nothing she said mattered. Could she break out of it? Did she have to play along?

Mot laughed lightly, shaking his head. He could tell her to stop staring at her feet, but why bother? This wasn't a formal dance class, he was just helping her out. "This song? Um, I suppose it's considered.. fun?" He smiled amusedly. "You don't have to like it." He said with a grin.

"Well, waltzing is sort of difficult as a beginner. For faster paced songs, I'd suggest just wiggling in place." He chuckled. He kept on leading her, slowing down whenever he tried out a new move or twist on her, leading her limbs much like one would pose a doll, just so she knew what went where.

"Dancing is best when you simply let yourself enjoy it."

"Was something funny?" she asked, eager to know what exactly had been a joke. She laughed, too, anyway-- this was absurd. It was all absurd.

Amarus attempted to demonstrate a wiggle, as though that was what he'd meant. "Am I doing a good job? Am I a good ghoul?" she joked, and felt herself ease up.

"Everything's better when you let yourself enjoy it," she said, "even if you focus too hard, I think enjoyment gets lost altogether."

How long did this dance last? Surely, it would be over soon. Hadn't he left? Left for someone he'd been waiting for.

Mot had to laugh. She really didn't like that previous song. Mot tended to like almost all songs and forms of music. There wasn't much he didn't like.

"Really?" he exclaimed happily as she admitted to enjoying dancing. "Well that's great. It's really best when you just let yourself have fun with it." She wasn't looking at her feet so much either, which probably was helping. It wasn't as fun if she only focused on technique.

"Mine?" He tilted his head, ponytail falling to the side as he thought. "I love lively dances with a lot of movement, like Swing Dancing." He chuckled and shrugged. "That is something I can not teach you in one sitting." Lot's of shuffling and partner tossing.

Mot once again laughed, grinning at his partner. "I was never worried about my shins. I've noticed your feet have been intangible this whole time." His sixth sense as a reaper allowed him to know the ghoul was a ghost before she'd even spoken to him. "But honestly, a kicked shin or two is nothing." The best fun was when things didn't go quite to plan, anyway.

The music got a bit livelier, so the reaper smiled and nodded his head. "Ready to try something a little more fast paced?"

Now they were both laughing, and it felt really good. This was what things had been like, before, wasn't it? That was why this moment had been so important all this time. She'd been happy. She hadn't been alone.

"I never did learn Swing from you, did I? Enzo showed me, I think, later... Enzo cared about me, I almost thought--" She almost thought she could forget Mot, and rely on Enzo. It was entirely different. She believed, now, she had merely been a product.

Amarus couldn't answer, now. She couldnt' remember if she had answered before, either."I am a ghost, yes..." she whispered. "It is still a source of shame for me, to be a spirit. Do you think it makes me less for having been alive before, and failed once?" she asked. It was strangely relieving, knowing he could not deviate from the script in the memory, but she could rewrite it. Why had she been so worried about stepping on his feet? Because she had forgotten. She had forgotten from her mid-calf downwards, she was intangible even now. It took a lot of concentration to manifest physically. She never walked on the ground, either.

"Sure," was all she could answer, lost in thought.

"Fun is pretty fun, isn't it?" He joked with a chuckle. Mot nodded, "I could try and teach you here, but I fear you might trip over your intangible feet." Swing dancing took a fair bit of coordination between partners.

Mot had to laugh. Heels could be considered a deadly weapon, indeed.

"Challenge it is!" He chuckled at the duel idea and shifted his posture. "Okay, try to move to the music with me." This time he tried not to baby her through it quite as much, more bounce in his step as he lead them around the dance floor.

"I won't get mad if you trip me." He called to her over the music. "I won't tell anyone either, promise!"

It dawned on her suddenly that she was supposed to be recreating the memory, not deviating from it. Well, it was too late, now. But she'd carry on as though she was trying, she supposed. She hadn ever been good with rules.

However, she was exhausted by this entire process. What had she said? The pressure to remember how she'd behaved and acted back then was immense. What did she like. Think. She liked fighting, only fighting, and didn't understand feelings. Okay. Go.

"I will excel at moving to the music," she said, "for I ace all challenges presented to me!" that sounded like old her, didn't it? Did it? Jack be damned, what was she like then? Had she actually changed?

"Good, it will be our secret. Our sworn secret. Something only we have." She was rambling now, grasping at straws as they danced.
