The path to route 4 was direct, though it was odd to be walking and not rolling. Sullivan didn’t want to startle Ulani further though; he’d already traumatized her enough at this point and wanted her to feel that she could trust him despite their rough introduction. She’d taken up occupation on his shoulder to ride, little paws clinging to his hair to keep herself steady as she got use to moving without flying on her own, eyes wide and taking in the sights. He still wasn’t sure how or why she was this far inland, or even on this island. He was certain Emolga were found on Poni not Melemele so… yeah. That was still odd.

He raised a finger and gave her a gentle scratch under the chin making her jump a bit in surprise. Okay, maybe it was a little early for the friendliness? He gave her an apologetic look, hand raised defensively in the process. It was probably dangerous to suggest that she might’ve been rather jealous of how quickly her trainer seemed to be taking to the little flying rat that he’d beamed viciously with a ball not but an hour or so ago. He certainly hadn’t shown her such affection! Of course, that was probably because a portion of the time had been her being a bit of a brat. But she wasn’t going to admit that; it was clearly Sullivan’s fault that she’d been that way. Maybe she needed to fly in front of a ball or something to get him to remember who his starter was.

Even with Adder’s less-than-thrilled response, Huey still smiled. He had said yes, so that was all that mattered. “Thank you!” Keeping with his promise, the young boy fell into step with Adder as they began to make their way through the city and towards the next route. Staraptor, who had taken notice, followed close behind from up in the air. “Training? You’re a trainer then?” Well that was convenient, and not all that surprising considering most of the people he met on the road were trainers. He hadn’t met any breeders yet, like him, which was a bit of a shame. “How many badges do you have?”
He needed to get back into training too, he realized. The Easter event hadn’t given him enough time to allow his pokemon to run across any trainers or wild pokemon, and he did need to start preparing for his seventh gym badge. Which also meant that he needed to get back to Unova, at some point. That was easy though, now that he had a pokemon to fly him. At that thought, Huey glanced up at the air to stare up at Staraptor. She hadn’t officially joined his team yet though, he probably needed to bring that up to her.
Cloud briefly pulled his face away from the communicator’s screen to look about the change of scenery. Everything was so pretty here! His gander through the wilderness lasted until he got a response from Cheri, and then he was back to typing; he was getting close to becoming an average teenager.

Adder stared at the kid a moment. "A... breeder? Like, you breed pokemon?" he asked, eying him warily. Honestly, that had always been kinda weird for him. He probably wasn't old enough to think about it that much, but he knew the basics-- you got baby pokemon from older pokemon, and if you were a breeder, you did that consistently, on purpose. For specified and better traits and pokemon, if he remembered right. His expression turned skeptical. Did this even know how that all worked? "Have you actually.... done any, yet? Breeding, that is?" he asked. He shifted a bit at the 'praise' (or perhaps enthusiasm was a better word), and shrugged. "I guess. I'd rather have got tehm here, but there were people at the Cavern when I first got there, and I didn't want to wait," he vaguely explained. Not that he needed to explain, but....
He nodded slowly as he listened, pausing, then asking, "How many eggs do you have?" He didn't miss the comment about the eggs, but he didn't really feel like 'bonding' over the fact that he'd done that challenge too, and left that bit of information out. He blinked at the question. "Uh... yeah," he replied, eying him dubiously. He really hoped he wasn't asking so he could try and come over, or get a free place to stay or something.... He winced and flinched away at the telepathic voice that intruded into his thoughts again, glaring down at the little pokemon. "Maybe you're used to it, but I don't like having a voice that's not mine just crack into my head," he snapped, grimacing and moving away, growling as he rubbed his temple and moved to release his pokemon. He might as well get training....

Rats. He hadn’t expected Adder to actually ask him about his breeding experience, or total lack of. “I…” Huey shuffled a bit, and for a moment the idea of lying crossed his mind, for fear of the boy’s reaction at learning the truth, but the boy was quick to shake that idea from his mind; lying was wrong after all, and he had no real reason to. “...I haven’t actually bred a pokemon before,” he admitted, voice low. He was silent a moment, as he found a great interest in the specs of mud across the toe of his shoe, before he sighed and looked back up.
“I’m a breeder in training. My older brother, Andrew, is a real breeder and he’s supposed to be teaching me, but I haven’t been home much lately. So I’m more of a trainer than a breeder right now. But I know that when I grow up I want to be a breeder,” he confessed, in one long, drawn out sentence, that left him sucking in air afterwards. There. That hadn’t been so bad, now had it? His ‘big secret’ revealed, Huey was more than eager to step back and listen to Adder speak, and so nodded his head along as he explained his reasoning behind not going for his Alolan badges first. “Waiting can be annoying…” he agreed, hoping to remain ‘relatable’.
“I got all fifty,” Huey confessed, an iota of pride intermingled with the sentence. They had been hard to find, and they’d been all over the place! “Did you participate in it too?” Adder didn’t seem too confused about his mention of the event, so maybe he was acquainted with the event; or… he could have seen one of the many, many flyers loitered around the regions. Huey nodded, genuinely interested, when Adder confirmed being from the islands. “Where are you from?” Cloud, not the least bothered by the glare sent his way, only nodded eagerly as Adder explained himself.
He wanted to reply, and maybe ask him if he could taste his hat, but another text from Cheri had quickly occupied. Huey sighed, watching Adder move away, before he looked around the area again with new eyes, looking for any training potential within the grass. There wasn’t much, sadly, but the boy still released Dianna and a few others, figuring they would enjoy the air. “If you find a pokemon you guys can battle them,” he suggested, eyes sweeping over his team. “But, uhm, go easy on them. I’m pretty sure you’re all too strong for them.”
Text to Cheri: Of course! You are my first communicator friend, I could never forget you! Ever! Woah, that many? Do you think your tongue will ever get tired from trying all those many, many flavors? We should try a bunch of cotton candy together! I have seen them in tons of colors before, so I bet there are tons of cotton candy flavors! They are like cake! Except smaller! There are very small donuts called mini donuts, you can stick a lot in your mouth at once! Like, two! Though that is because my mouth is small. If my mouth was bigger, I could probably eat as many as ten at once! I don’t know why they have holes in them, maybe so that you can hold them easier, or use them as bracelets? Or, a crown! I think a donut crown would be delicious.

He calls them TM’s. Biting an arm off doesn’t sound very nice. Is your trainer okay? Can he grow another arm? You should teach him how to fight better, so that way he can stop losing arms. Or maybe just grow more arms. That’s good he didn’t do it to avoid hugs, because hugs are nice. It is very easy, I bet! You could do it in an hour maybe. I will! I will start humming tons of music and mix it altogether.
No, but maybe that’s because I have very strong eyes? I cannot see that well in the dark though. Can you see in the dark? Maybe you should try and find the pokemon and ask it. Thank you! That is a shame, voices are so nice to listen to. I met a man who spoke funny things before, Huebert didn’t like him though. Why does your trainer say funny things? Is he trying to be funny? Yes, it is! I hope for Huebert to make many friends, friends make you happy, and I want him to be happy. You should make tons of friends too, that way you can be happy! I want you to be happy too. I do! I have many, many, many friends! My favorite is Beep and Huebert, we made a new friend though. She is a Staraptor and she lets me ride on her back when she flies.

Adder shot an almost suspicious look back to Huey when he trailed off, and rolled his eyes at the confession. He turned to look at him lazily, eyes half open as he listened to the explanation, but frowned, brow furrowing in confusion. He dropped his hands to his side. "Why are you out here training and battling if you have someone to train you to be what you want back home, then?" he uttered, obviously not understanding. He deadpanned a bit at the agreement, raising an eyebrow and.... possibly catching on a bit to Huey's intention. He went with not replying.
At hearing the kid -- 'cause yeah, this guy was totally a kid -- had got all fifty eggs, Adder blinked, dropping his arm and his skeptical expression. Huh.... Thaaat was more than he expected. He figured the kid would brag about finding... thirty, or something. But nope, all of them. He eyed him at the question. "Well.... congratulations," he replied stiffly, "And yeah, I did." He turned to continue training, and seemed like he was going to leave it at that, but finally added, "I got them all too." Because it just haaaaaad to be a competition. He dropped his shoulders when Huey asked where he was from. ".... Kinda near Hau'oli," he replied vaguely, not exactly wanting to give his address out. He moved to look for wild pokemon, but turned with a frown when Huey released his pokemon and.... told him to go easy on him? His eyes widened a bit when he noticed a few-- a... a hydreigon!?! And an Embroar? He swallowed, stepping back a bit... ".... How many badges do you have?" he asked, turning to Huey with a frown.

Huey shrugged before offering a sheepish smile, Adder did bring up a good point... "Because I like training, and my pokemon seem to as well," he answered. "I thought I'd wait until I finished the Unova league before going back home and getting into breeding." There was also the fact that Andrew had urged him to try and go out into the world, and 'widen his horizons' before he went into breeding. The world was a big place, and until he'd started his journey, Huey had only seen Goldenrod, and bits and pieces of the other cities they'd passed through during small vacations. But, he doubted Adder wanted to hear all of that; so he stuck to the condensed version of his story.
"Thank you!" He brightened considerably at the other boy's acknowledgement of his accomplishment; at the very least, it was a positive remark. A nearby shuffling from Rags had him looking over in the pokemon's direction, and he watched as he huffily kicked at a patch of grass to try and rustle up a bit of action, that or he had a bone to pick with the greenery. Both were a valid option. "Really? Congratulations! Did you stick around for the luau they had after? They had a lot of good food, there was a bunch I hadn't seen before," he offered up, as way of small talk. But, in the back of his mind, Huey realized that his 'exotic taste testing' wouldn't be quite as exotic to an Alolan native. "Oh, okay." Hau'oli City, he sorta knew where that was. "Have you always lived there?" Again, he was going for small talk.
Deciding that his pokemon didn't need watching as they slowly began to explore the area, the pre-teen turned back to his companion. "I have six badges. I'm trying to get ready to get my seventh." It wasn't long after he'd given his answer that a pained cry from the nearby grass drew his attention away, and Huey had to excuse himself from Adder to investigate. He came across a battle between Rags and a... Lileep? That didn't seem like the type of pokemon that frequented this area, or any area really; couldn't they only be esca... escavated? Figuring out where the pokemon had come from wasn't his top priority though, taking care of his own worse. As confused as he was to see Rags so battered, that didn't stop Huey from administering a Full Restore to help the pokemon back on his feet. He appreciated it, maybe -- he actually didn't show much gratitude, and with his health fully restored Rags was able to beat back the pokemon.
Lileep collapsed, head bowing down as its legs crumbled, but before Huey could begin to investigate where the pokemon had come from he watched, with his own two eyes, as the pokemon simply just disappeared. That was... huh? "Oh wow, how weiiiird!" Cloud chirped, projecting aloud Huey's exact thoughts. He furrowed his brow, but before he could start to question if the pokemon had really disappeared or it's just been some... trick of the light, he was reminded to heal up Rags with a few potions. Maybe Adder would know about this? For all Huey knew, disappearing pokemon was common on these islands; as unlikely as that sounded.

Adder eyed Huey warily at the explanation. He grunted, turning away to try and focus on the training, but of course, the conversation was still going. Maybe he was being a little too antisocial, given just how happy his congratulations seemed to make the kid. He paused to look back at him, eying him a moment. ".... How old are you, anyway?" he asked, furrowing his brow.
He shifted at the congratulations, shrugging at it "modestly", yet failing to show the civil response of actually thanking Huey. He gave him a bit of a look on the comment about food. "Uh... no not really. I wanted to get on with getting my badges and stuff," he semi-lied. He had, in fact, wanted to do that, buuuuuut he'd also sort of maybe stolenanagentsgunsandranforit. No need to mention that, though.
He grimaced, and dropped his shoulders, groaning a bit at the continued small talk. "I guess? Where did you grow up?" he replied, slouching as he walked, trying hard not to just tell the kid to shut up. Huey, working between too much eye contact and not enough, looked away after a bit. Right, Adder was training, and he didn’t want to bother him or have the boy ask him to leave. So he’d do what he did, i.e. concentrate more on training and offer only bits of conversational pieces. “I’m eleven,” he answered when he was digging through his bag, and after some rifling he pulled out a few items he felt his pokemon would need in the very-near future. “How old are you?” He knew for a fact that Adder was older, it was in the way he talked and held himself, but… it couldn’t have been by that much. Probably.
He nodded his head, though it was done rather absently as he focused on healing Rags up and handing him one of the heartscales he’d pulled out of his bag. He was long overdue for an upgrade in his moveset, and… probably a new item too, he’d had that Black Belt for a good while now and it was beginning to show its use, but at the moment he could only provide one of the two. “I’m from Goldenrod City, in Johto,” Huey answered, and tried not to shrink away as he identified the agitation in the other boy’s voice. Okay, so… less small talk, more training. He could do that. Especially when he realized that Adder might not have the answer to his question, if the look on his face from seeing the Lileep disappear was any indication.

Huebert likes a lot of people, but he gets nervous around them for some reason. He was nervous meeting the hatboy, I had to talk to him first. I would like to meet your trainer, he sounds like fun! I like talking with her, she always has interesting things to say.

He couldn't imagine how many scarred kids there were out there, who's pokemon were stolen, or killed, or who encountered unpleasant people all on their own. Yeesh. Parents were dumb for letting kids go out unprotected. He looked back when the question was returned to him, frowning defensively, even though there was no need. "... Thirteen," he replied after a moment, having seriously considered lying. But that would... really only make his height thing all the more embarrassing.... N-not that he was embarrassed. Or that it was even a thing to begin with.

Huey’s eyes widened, clearly awed at Adder’s age. Which was a silly thing to be impressed with, considering age… wasn’t a feat, or anything one could influence. Still though! Adder was a teenager, and closer to becoming an ‘adult’ than he was, and that was…. cool. And… it made him feel a little cool---as dumb as that was-- because he was hanging out with a teenager. “When’s your birthday?” Huey asked, blurting out the first question that didn’t sound… childish, and dumb; that was, surprisingly, harder than one would expect.
It took the child a moment to make sense of Adder’s question, and it involved recalling what they’d been previously discussing. Right! His home city! “Mhm! It was!” he answered excitedly. “I got to see my family when I stopped by. It was nice.” Huey rocked on his heels afterwards, able to feel another silence starting up again. He used this time to send Rags out to battle once more, now that he was healed up and had a new move, but paid special attention to just what he was going against this time. “What do you wanna be when you grow up, Adder?” Huey asked, well aware of how random a question it was. But… he was curious, and asking the older boy one question wouldn’t annoy him. Or… at least, that's what he hoped.

You can save numbers? How do you do that? If tongue training is a thing, do you think there are tongue competitions? I think, if there are, you should enter and win! I bet you have a very powerful tongue. I will eat many sour foods then, I’ll have some for dinner tonight! I think it could be possible. Unless you are battling, or have to use your mouth for something else. They are! Have you done many dangerous things? Yes! So many great things! Maybe my Huebert and your trainer could try it with us too! I’ll start practicing making them, that way you’ll have the best donut crown.
That’s a very good idea! Maybe your trainer can join you on top of the fortress, instead of tearing it down. That’s also a very good idea, I think Huebert has a few of them in his bag. I’ll have to dig them out soon, and see how they work. If you could throw all the elements, you would be invincible! You could battle many pokemon, and do other things too probably. Thank you! I really want to know if he does! I don’t think I’ve ever met a pokemon with no arms. Have you? I’m sure they would be a good teacher for your trainer though.
My eyes are not already big. I will try dropping things into them, to make them big. I wish I could see it too. Maybe you can take a picture of it, and then when we meet you can show me that. I would have loved to help with the ruling! I think I would be a good one. They can be! But that is what can make them funny and nice to be around. I’m not sure, he might have been running at him for another reason. I’ll ask Beep, or Huebert, about it and then tell you what they said. Maybe! I will also ask him that. That is a pokemon with no arms! Maybe it can be your trainer’s teacher, if he loses his other arm. Why did the rock snake sit on him? Did it think he was furniture? I rode it when we were looking for those eggs, and again earlier! Since she is apart of our team now, I bet I’ll ride her more often. I think she is very smart! They talk about Huebert often, and when we were looking for eggs one of the heads suggested keeping him with them, but then the other said they should leave him to do it on his own. They argue often, I think.
