Class Activity

FOR ALL AGES:

Find a recipe!

Starts: NOW!
Ends: When the activity rolls over (end of the month)!

"Today I'm going to let you all let your creativity guide you! I want you to find a recipe -- either online, from your family cookbook, or somewhere else -- and put your own creative twist on it! I'm excited to see what you come up with!"

Rules
1. Go and find a recipe and link to it somewhere in your RP response. Roll a 100 sided die and see the legend below under the spoiler to see how your character did! There is no passing or failing!
  • Use the form below!

1-20 You found a recipe, but you diverged so much from the science of baking that your dessert didn't even resemble what you were trying to make. Good thing this isn't for grades ...

21-30 You had a mishap with the beaters, putting the setting up too high and the contents of your bowl were sent flying. Luckily there are enough ingredients left over to start again.

31-40 You burned the bottom of your dessert. Somehow. Some ... way ... you can eat around it, though!

40-50 You accidentally set your oven to the broil setting by mistake! Eek! The top looks golden brown, sure, but the inside is so underdone it's a little embarrassing ...

51-60 Your dessert came out perfectly!

61-70 The creative twist you decided to do didn't pan out ... so you try again with a different approach and it comes out beautifully!

71-80 You used a little too much sugar in your dessert, so it's a little bit too sweet ... but it's not inedible!

81-90 Meh. It's alright. Could be better.

91+ Absolutely amazing! You went above and beyond and really let your freak flag fly! Have you considered baking on a professional level?

Taking this class was so out of his comfort zone, but this was his last year at the academy and he really wanted to try different classes. Plus it would be nice if he had a knack for baking because then he could make his significant other cute little cakes and sweets. Esrael smiled gently as his mind wandered and started to fill with images of baking cute little desserts for the ones he loved.

                        SPLAT

Cold, gooey, sticky batter covered his face, ripping him from his daydream. Obviously there was a lot he needed to learn about baking---like start paying attention to what he was doing. Luckily there was still enough stuff left over that he could start over. Hopefully he could get this right the second time.

User Image"Aww yis, cookies!" Honey exclaimed excitedly. While they prepared their ingredients, Honey was, as always, a bit liberal and carefree. They always cooked more out of instinct and fun, rather than following direct instructions. Grinning the whole time, Honey finally finished their dough and began placing generous balls of the stuff on their trays. "Hey cuties, ready to be delicious treats for me tummy?" Honey asked the doughy balls with a grin.

Impatient as they always were, Honey sat in front of their oven and watched their creations with a sigh. After ten minutes or so, the nightmare decided they were good enough. Pulling them out enthusiastically, Honey grinned and put them aside for cooling. They gave the closest cookie a soft prod and noticed their finger sinking into the undercooked dough.
"Perfect! They're big ol' softies, like me!" Honey concluded, completely satisfied.

User ImageHisteol didn't think he'd be very good at this class, but baking was sort of important in their family, so he felt a little like it was something he should know how to do. Luckily, the assignment today was a team assignment, so things couldn't go all that badly, could they?

Sadly, Teo was on baking duty. Their instructions had said that they should bake them until they were fully browned, but...well...that wasn't exactly helpful for poor Teo... He held up a burnt cookie, hot in his fingertips, and felt the edges. "They're burnt, sorry," he said to the rest of their group. "I'm really sorry about that. Maybe we could trim the burnt bits?"

User ImageBaking was the sort of thing Callessa's mother did--it wasn't really Cal's "thing." But she wouldn't be living with her mother forever, and she would be cursed if she was going to spend even a single Winter Solstice without homemade cookies. So she signed up to take the baking class. Her team's cookies did no better than her brother's team--they came out a bit burnt on the edges. The insides, however, were tasty and crunchy, so all in all, Cal didn't think they did so badly!

User ImageZalir loved making sweet treats, so zey had signed up for the new baking class as soon as zey had heard about it. Sadly, zeir experience with cooking so far had been with hard candies, which tended to be made at very high temperatures. Zalir badly underestimated the amount of time it took to bake the cookies, and so zey came out soft and uncooked. Zey sighed--the insides needed to be fully cooked, there were eggs in this! Zey decided to put them back into the oven to bake for a little bit longer.

User ImageEvelyn had been baking her entire life, so her leg of the assembly line went quite well. Sadly, the student manning the ovens insisted on putting the cookies in for too short a time, ostensibly so that the cookies would be gooier. For the first time ever, Evey found herself in an argument with a classmate. The cookies were already going to be gooey, or you could at least have put them in for eight minutes! Why in the name of the Nine did you put them in for only five?! Frustrated, Evey resolved to make some cookies of her own later today just to put this whole terrible incident out of mind...

Hailey was super psyched to bake some goodies. Treats were her livelihood. Her life blood. One could swear she had chocolate coursing through her veins. She took turns with the kids at her table to make the dough, and since she was the oldest of the group, she put the tray in the oven.

After clean up, the group gathered around the oven, only to watch in horror as the cookies became one! "EEP!" Hailey let out. Oh well... The group shrunk some as their cookie finished out it's sentence in the oven.

Once the timer beeped, Hailey pulled the tray from the oven carefully with mitted hands, and set it down. "So... What say we cut this bad boy up and find out why they became one gaint monster cookie?" she said with a laugh.

Liath had never baked before, cooking he had down he could sautee a mean mushroom. Give him a beater and some flour and he knew that things would quickly hit the fan but that's what this class was right? However, no one told him how to use the darn contraption and soon he was covered in his batter. Luckily he didn't think anyone noticed and made quick work of trying to start over with the ingredients that he had left.

User Image "Ok... Baking cookies.... This shouldn't be too difficult right? Just follow the recipe and everything with be fine..." Margret made sure to make every measurement be as exact as possible. She didn't want these to be overcooked, someone might hurt their teeth on them. But they also shouldn't be under cooked.... Someone might get a bad disease from raw cookie dough! With the time being carefully watched, even as the alarm dinged, she was right there for them. She bit into the cookies and they were... Perfect!

User Image Orea was... Branching out. She wasn't much into cooking, let alone baking, but it shouldn't be too difficult and it was a life skill everyone needed to have. Sweets weren't really her thing, but cookies, as the teacher put it, should be simple! Easy! The hybrid followed the directions as best she could, placed them all on the cookie sheet and allowed them to back the allotted amount of time and when she pulled them out, "What's this?" Orea looked at her singular cookie the size of the cookie sheet. "At least their done... Maybe I can cut them?" She stared at the tray, mulling over her options.

User Image "Cookies, cookies, cookies~!" Nian was overjoyed that they would be making the simple treats. He had his apron on, mixing the ingredients and working away as he hummed. His first batch went so well, that he decided to make another! But why just stop there? "I bet my friends would enjoy these!" He whipped up a third batch! And in between all of this he stepped in to offer help and suggestions to those who looked like they were struggling. He even offered cookies for them to taste.

Eirian probably thought a little too highly of themselves but they really thought they had the baking thing down. They were working with such flare that ti almost seemed like they did... Until they didn't.

They had never used electric beaters before and didn't know how to deal with the settings. Next thing Eirian knew, the batter was splattering over their apron and the wall next to them. "Hehe...Whoops," Eirian whispered to themselves before cleaning up a little.

When they set back to work, Eirian toned down the flare... just a little.

User ImageDespite his usual sporadic nature, Adam managed to focus and measured his ingredients twice before throwing them into the same bowl. The mixing, the baking, all of it was an effort well worth it when his cookies came out of the oven perfectly, even though he himself was covered in about an inch or two of flour from head to toe. He hoped that maybe he could wrap a few of them up to take home, so he could proudly show off his learned skills for the day.

Elise was absolutely in her element today. She was alright at baking normally, but today she felt particularly inspired. Everything seemed to go in her favor today, which allowed her to experiment, making a few different types of cookies. None of them seemed to burn, and they all seemed to be the perfect consistency. She couldn't be happier with her batches, planning to save the bulk of them for the little ballet class she was instructing after class.

Spacing out in his own little world, Belledandi didn't notice the smoke starting to creep out from the oven as he played on his phone. It took a little bit and some classmates panicking for him to realize his cookies were burning! "Crap!" he yelped as he snatched up his oven mitts, reaching in to pull out his little briquettes. "Errr... Anyone need charcoal for art class?"
