Hulis had been told by his mother of many things. First and foremost was that every beast had their pros and cons. Each earthling alive had a beast companion out there that was waiting for them. Sorta like a soul mate. As far fetched as that notion was, the youth found it rather endearing. It meant that he didn’t have to be alone in his travels as he noticed his sister drifting more and more from his side. He didn’t like that in the slightest, but he couldn’t exactly control her. That would make him a horrible brother. He would rather help her in all she did, while he did feel a bit...left behind. He knew that their paths were of two vastly different souls. It was heartwarming as much as it was soul shattering. The youth sat on the ground of the forest path that his mother had showed him. Flipping through the book of magic his Granmama had given him as a welcome home present. He wasn’t totally sitting on the ground...there was snow after all. He was sitting more on a flat sled sort of thing that the nearby tiny mammu pulled him along on.
He was so wrapped up in reading that the sudden sound of a branch snapping caused both him and the small mammu to jump rather harshly. Hulis’ wide eyes matched that of the now quivering mammu. He reached out to beckon the small beast to his side. It gladly skittered to his side, burrowing into his warmth. Hulis glanced around, another snapping branch had both parties jolting up. Hulis kept his eyes peeled as the small mammu guided him to the harness. As the sled was nearly ready, Hulis heard it...a low. Soft.
Hiss.
The youth froze. What sort of beast hissed?!? He blinked as he looked around, seeing nothing he kneeled down to look at the bushes. Was there something there? What in the---he blinked as his eyes landed on it. A Keldari...a beast from the island. He slowly dropped to a knee as he took in the beast's features. He stilled the tiny mammu. “Shh, shh. Its okay sweetie. I think its more afraid of us than we are of it…”
The mammu blinked as it slowly turned to openly stare at Hulis like the youth had lost his mind. Hulis sat on the edge of the sled as he watched the beast. “Hi there...can you come out a bit more?” he asked. The Keldari slowly slithered out into view. Hulis took the moment to remember its features, firsthand. As it got close...Hulis slowly reached out. The Keldari froze as the youth’s hand got closer. A moment of a pause from both, then Hulis was able to just barely touch the top of the creature’s head before it took off. He blinked before he leaned back on the mammu’s rump. “Alright...let’s go home.”
The tiny beast was more than willing to comply with that!
