This enemy can be fought solo!

You venture a bit out into the swamplands, following a strange sound in the distance -- and before you can get too far, you spot a medium-sized animal, floundering around a bit among the trees. As you approach, you notice something strange: some shredded fabric still clinging around one foot, or around its neck, like the remnants of some long-destroyed clothing.

At this point, it occurs to you that this might be a transformed human being. maybe it's even one of you. And you must capture it.

Except it doesn't seem to want to be captured. Your approach spooks it, and it attacks you in blind fear.

Hit Points: 30 HP
Damage: 4 HP each time you attack

If you bring this monster down to 5HP or below, it is injured and can be captured and brought back to the campsite for safe keeping until you can figure out what to do. However, if you drop it below 0HP, you kill it.

Either outcome, once finished with at least 500 words each party involved in the battle gets 10XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following:

1-10: You are bitten during the attack, and are turned into an animal! Size is determined by your weapon: agile weapons become small animals, balanced become medium sized, and heavy become large.

11-40: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent.
41-99: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Moly Flower: a small white flower with a dark root. You're not quite sure what it's for, but decide to keep it.
100: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Fine Wine: Why would an animal have a bottle of wine? Considering all that's going on, we strongly suggest you don't drink. If you act rashly and do, though, please PM and be blue for consequences.

Anything was better than a damn skunk. That was what Zan told himself as he continued traipsing through the forest, mildly irritated and minus one pant leg. But he couldn't find it in himself to stop, not when he'd done so much in comparison to what he'd accomplished in the Alps. He couldn't deny that he felt a little closer to possessing the qualities he imagined a Chosen had during this trip, and it was quite the boost to his already considerable ego.

Just one more. Whatever creature he ran into next would be his last.

Somehow the buffalo found him first. She nudged him hard in the side while he was still oblivious to any animal life in the area, and before he could react, she had him laid out on his back.

"Buy a guy dinner first, Rosalind," Zan groused, regaining his feet with a sigh.

He dragged his dagger from its sheath and backed up a little, watching the creature with an appreciative eye. He'd never been this close to a buffalo before, and it was rather humbling, more so than he would have expected. She also kind of stunk, so there was that.

Zan darted forward, moving too quickly for the buffalo to counter, and delivered a strong strike to her shoulder.

Rosalind reared forward, clipping Zan's dominant arm with her horns and sending him stumbling back. He caught himself right before he fell, and for a moment he flailed wildly, forgetting his irritated frown. He might have deserved that, but it didn't make it any more welcome. He lashed out, cutting the buffalo across the shoulder right next to where he hit last time.

This time the buffalo simply screamed, her piercing bellow much more human than he would have considered possible from such a beast. He hadn't thought much of what the animal Chosen were capable of, concentrating more on turning them human again, but now he wondered if they might speak and learn to live as beasts if this didn't pan out.

Those thoughts and any others were driven from his mind as she stepped back to charge again, and he brought up his dagger instinctively, slashing at her as she passed.

She doubled back with more speed than he expected, ramming him with her horns again, and he stood stunned for a few seconds. By the time he moved, she was mostly out of range, but he did manage a weak scratch to her flank.

He followed after her, slashing and panting with the effort. She was strong, definitely stronger than he was, but Zan was quick. Still, she was wearing him down. They slashed and charged, kicked and bit, and eventually one of them fell.

At first, he was sure that he had killed her with his last desperate strike, but thought she proved to be unconscious, Rosalind was still breathing.

"Thank... Hermes. s**t, I dunno." Zan sighed, resting his palms against her heaving sides and feeling her heartbeat for a moment. She needed medical attention, and he needed more people to help him carry her back to camp. Zan gave her side a pat.

"Stay here," he said. "I'll be right back."
