This enemy can be fought solo!

You venture a bit out into the swamplands, following a strange sound in the distance -- and before you can get too far, you spot a medium-sized animal, floundering around a bit among the trees. As you approach, you notice something strange: some shredded fabric still clinging around one foot, or around its neck, like the remnants of some long-destroyed clothing.

At this point, it occurs to you that this might be a transformed human being. maybe it's even one of you. And you must capture it.

Except it doesn't seem to want to be captured. Your approach spooks it, and it attacks you in blind fear.

Hit Points: 30 HP
Damage: 4 HP each time you attack

If you bring this monster down to 5HP or below, it is injured and can be captured and brought back to the campsite for safe keeping until you can figure out what to do. However, if you drop it below 0HP, you kill it.

Either outcome, once finished with at least 500 words each party involved in the battle gets 10XP and rolls 1d100 to collect loot according to the following:

1-10: You are bitten during the attack, and are turned into an animal! Size is determined by your weapon: agile weapons become small animals, balanced become medium sized, and heavy become large.

11-40: You gain nothing but the victory of having beaten this opponent.

100: User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Fine Wine: Why would an animal have a bottle of wine? Considering all that's going on, we strongly suggest you don't drink. If you act rashly and do, though, please PM and be blue for consequences.

All the other times he'd found himself confronted by unnatural Louisiana wildlife it had been either because he'd deliberately sought it out or because he had been bored just standing around and had wandered where he shouldn't. This time, Zan was on the deliberate lookout for moly flowers, the supposed cure for all their Manimal problems. He didn't really get why their gods couldn't band together and magic everyone out of the situation, but he supposed deities had their limits too. Clearly once they'd gotten everyone patched up, they'd have to put a stop to Circe too, maybe even with the help of that map. He should probably make an effort to share his piece of it with the rest of the class before too much longer.

But now he attention had been focused on one thing.

"A skunk? Really?"

A skunk.

Zan was covered in six different kinds of mud and had fought at least that many scratching, biting animals, yet it was this one that almost had him screaming into the trees. He had only ever met a single skunk in his life besides the one crouched in front of him, and after three minutes alone with it, he had known he never wanted to meet another.

"Hey... skunky... buddy!" he said, palms open and extended. No threat here. "I'm just gonna... head this way and I'll be out of your hagghllhgh!"

It leaped for Zan, clawing at his face and hair like it had just found out he had murdered its parents. The Chosen shouted, a startled bark that quickly degenerated into a stinging string of curses. He managed to hold the skunk away from his chest with one forearm as he pulled his dagger, slashing viciously at the creature and grinning as it dropped to the ground.

"At least whatever happens to you know isn't my fault." It probably wasn't the best attitude for someone meant to help people to have, but the damn skunk had brought this on itself. If it got roughed up, he wouldn't feel all that bad. No one had actually said they were meant to help people anyway.

The skunk wasted no time. It rolled to its feet and hissed, fur bristling and teeth bared. He knew that look. It was about to strike. With its a**.

Zan didn't give it a chance, drawing back his foot and connecting a solid kick to the creature's side. It flew through the air and landed about five feet away, giving him a grand opportunity to run.

He turned to do so, pride long since crushed by worse circumstances than these, but he was too late. The skunk angled its posterior just so, then sprayed the foulest of foul liquids his way. Thankfully, he managed to dodge most of it, but his left cuff and shoe were ruined.

"AAHHHGAAAAAAH!" Zan bellowed, throwing his knife at the skunk and clocking it squarely on the head. The animal fell silent and dropped to the ground, and for a moment he thought he had killed it. He hurried to its side, but when he saw its tiny chest rising and falling, he scowled.

"Served you right." He hadn't been worried. No one could prove he had been.

After taking a few minutes to catch his breath and rip the bottom half of his pant leg away, Zan gingerly picked up the unconscious skunk and another flower before returning to camp.
