A Dark Mirror Senshi sat atop a wall in an alleyway late one evening, watching his mirrorwraith flit among the people that passed on the sidewalk. It grew steadily larger as it gathered energy here and there. Ptolemaeus was left to wonder to himself as he observed it in silence.
He knew the Dark Mirror Court were neither with the Negaverse nor the White Moon Court, but then what were they, exactly? Why did they have chaotic energy signatures like the Negaverse? He'd always liked to think that they were different from Metallia's group like Chaotic Neutral was different from Chaotic Evil, but what exactly were they trying to accomplish? Why did they have to steal energy from others to sustain their power unlike the White Moon Senshi?
There were so many mysteries surrounding his court. Ptolemaeus was normally easy-going enough not to worry too much about details like those and he knew the current leader of their faction was too busy to go through it all with each member of their somewhat scattered faction, but that didn't keep him from questioning things now and then, especially when he was left alone with his thoughts on a night like that one.LokisRose ((Sorry for the lame title. There was a wrongness in the air, in the alleys, twinging against Tomlin’s senses like someone rubbing his fur the wrong way. Chaos, and nearby. The guardian cat paused in his nightly wanderings, whiskers bristling. It wasn’t a common energy signature, not a youma, or even an agent, but still distinctly chaotic. It felt almost... slick. He hadn’t spoken to many of the Dark Mirror Court, but he knew the feel of them. He knew the story of their kind, too, and it was a sad one. But a senshi was a senshi, even if chaos had a hold over their soul. And he was a guardian. With two easy leaps, the ginger tabby made his way up to the wall above the alley, level with the aura. He found the hooded figure at its source, flashes of bright colour over the black fuku, the trimmings backing up his reading of the aura. At first glance, the Dark Mirror Senshi didn’t seem to be hostile, but contemplative. Perhaps someone who could be talked to, talked back from the edge that chaos had set him on. A cat could hope. “What are you watching?” Tomlin asked, sauntering along the wall and pausing just out of arms’ reach, with a casual feline stretch that curled the tip of his tail. Kitomyx It’s perfect! Sorry for the delay. Hope this is okay.

"Hm?" A small motion out the corner of his eye caught Ptolemy's attention and he turned his head sharply to try to make out what he saw from the darkness of the shadows. It had been too subtle to be a human. A rat, perhaps, or a stray cat? Just as he was about to go back to his ponderings and keeping a watch on his wraith, he heard a voice and stiffened.
He glanced about, trying to find who had seemed to be addressing him while simultaneously attempting not to seem too worried about having been caught unaware. Soon his gaze came to rest on the ginger tabby tomcat that seemed to be walking toward him along the wall he was perched on, stopping when he was just out of reach. Ptolemaeus blinked. It wasn't that he'd never heard a talking cat before, but it'd been so long since he'd met one that he'd almost forgotten they even existed.
Even now he wasn't so sure it was someone else talking and he had just suspected the cat, but the faint outline of a gold star on his forehead against the feline's tabby stripes made him more confident. "My mirrorwraith," he answered with a soft smile. "How about you?"LokisRose ((Not at all! heart No rush~))

“Me?” Tomlin sat down on the ledge, still a cautious distance away, though not unfriendly. Wrapping his twitching tail across his paws, he fixed the senshi with a copper-eyed stare. “I’m watching you.” The senshi’s calm reaction to his company boded well, he thought. There was startlement his movements, but no sign of aggression. It was the aura alone that warned him to keep his distance. Tomlin spared a sideways glance over the edge, following the other’s gaze. At first, he saw only the people passing by, but then the movements of a very faint but strangely independent shadow caught his attention, a shadow that wasn’t cast by anything. He’d never seen a wraith before, though he’d heard the term mentioned. It wasn’t like a youma, in appearance or aura. Whiskers twitched with curiosity. He turned his eyes back to the senshi. “What’s it doing down there?”

"Hehehe...I guess that should have been obvious," Ptolemaeus confessed with a sheepish smile. "Any particular reason? Am I disturbing you?" He guessed his Chaos aura might have attracted the cat's attention, but what they thought of it, he had no idea. The feline seemed cautious at the very least, but it wasn't like he could blame him for that. It was better to be safe than sorry, especially in the case of encountering powered beings.
Then again, maybe it was his mirrorwraith that had drawn the cat's curiosity. It wasn't very conspicuous to most, but since guardians were cats, it was likely their sharper senses could pick up their movements and scarce presence easier. The senshi followed the cat's gaze down to the wraith below as he was asked another question about it.
"It's collecting energy from people passing by," he explained with a grim smile. "Not enough to harm anyone or even enough for most people to notice. But unlike White Moon Senshi, us Dark Mirror Seshi need energy from others to feed to Mirrorspace so we have the energy to power up."LokisRose ((Ugh, sorry for taking forever XP Real life ate meee))

“Not disturbing as such.” Not yet, at any rate, Tomlin thought. Intriguing would be more accurate. “Just like to keep track of who’s about. I don’t see many like you.” He... shouldn’t have been surprised that chaos wanted energy, but the Dark Mirror Senshi’s openness had taken him off-guard, and the explanation of the wraith’s movements sent a shudder down his spine, his tail swishing in sharper movements that he couldn’t suppress. He couldn’t help them, not from up here. Not unless the mirror senshi chose to stop. But that was perhaps not an entirely lost cause, Tomlin thought, given his reactions. The senshi was aware that what he did could hurt people, and he seemed to want to avoid that. Good sign. But then that begged the question of who had told him to collect energy, and also who had told him it was harmful. “Ah. Stealing.” Tomlin nodded to himself, and left it at that for now, testing the waters for a reaction. He slunk a few steps closer to the dark senshi, ostensibly to look down at the mysterious wraith again, but his sidelong gaze remained on the human. “Why isn’t your own energy enough?” he asked, choosing his words as carefully as he placed his paws on the ledge. “The energy to power up comes from you, your world. It’s part of yourself. You should have just as much energy as any White Moon Senshi.” As far as he was aware, the grip of Chaos didn’t affect a senshi’s power levels. The poor souls were corrupted, but not weakened. Why feed a mirror? “What’s your name?” he asked, suddenly urgent. Which stolen star was he talking to? Kitomyx ((No worries, RL eats me all the time too, as you have probably noticed. sweatdrop Sorry! ))

"And I don't often encounter star-marked talking cats like you, either," the sailor scout replied in amusement. He turned his head to scrutinize the guardian more closely. Did they express feelings through their features like humans or did their feline faces simply appear as any other cat's?
The tail motions caught his eye and he guessed that, like their body language, their displays of emotion - voluntary and involuntary - were bound to be different than they were for humans so there was little point in trying to read them the same way. Still, there was the intonations and nuances of the guardian's voice to consider as he spoke, and if he could apply what he knew of human and cat reactions to the guardian's behaviors, perhaps he might have gotten a more accurate image of what he was thinking.
"Stealing?" Ptolemy repeated, tasting the word as if it were a bitter surprise. As if he'd never considered the application of the word to his goals as an energy-gatherer. "...That's one way to look at it. But as with all things, there are multiple perspectives to take." He watched the cat draw closer and adjusted his own position on the wall to sit more comfortably.
"I don't think of energy as something able to be stolen. Like water or other matter, isn't it just transferred?" The black-haired young man raised his leg to set his foot on the top of the wall and hugged his knee to his chest. "Spiders catch flies. Eagles hunt rabbits. Whales eat seals. No one really thinks of their acts as stealing, do they?"
He tried another tack. "A farmer who raises sheep doesn't consider himself to be stealing when he sheers their wool off them in the spring. It's not like they won't grow it back. And besides that, he's probably doing them a favor by helping them get cooler for the summer. Not to mention he spends most of his time caring for them anyway, so it's really for the benefit of both parties, isn't it?"
Ptolemaeus stared at the cat a minute in silence. Since he had just come within arms reach, it was very tempting to try to pet him. Still, the guardian seemed to be exercising caution and the senshi wanted to remain respectful. He forced his dark eyes to train back on his mirrorwraith.
"Yeah...Remarque, the one who 'woke' me as Dark Mirror Senshi, did mention that the White Moon Senshi draw energy from their homeworlds. But he also said their worlds are dead or dying and that he thought that eventually they might lose their power completely." He gave a slight shrug. "I don't think anyone from our court has access to our own homeworlds, if we even have any. Who knows? Maybe ours are already all dead. But that's why we replenish Mirrorspace with 'batteries', as he put it, and in turn, we can draw energy from it to power up." A soft sigh left him. "I just wish I knew why it's like this for our court; how it came to be this way." There was still so much he didn't understand.
At the guardian's final question, Ptolemy's brows shot up. "Whoops! Did I forget to introduce myself? How rude of me." His grin was back in full force as he pushed himself up onto his feet. Then he executed a slow but graceful bow, careful to keep his balance on the narrow ledge that comprised the top of the wall. "Sailor Ptolemaeus, Dark Mirror Senshi of Change. But Ptolemy works."
He tilted his head. "And you, my feline acquaintance?"LokisRose ((This took WAY too long to respond to. OTL))
