It's early evening, and the sun is going down over the lake -- the sky is a beautiful mishmash of oranges and purples when rumor spreads that something fun is going on outside, at the Assembly Hall. It's still orientation week, and no doubt everyone's tired of the boring assemblies and introductions and dry exercises in getting used to the Prytaneum.

This is something different.

Around the great firepit outside the Hearth, next to the Assembly Hall, there are a bunch of blankets, cushions, many and sundry, no doubt pulled from different parts of the Prytaneum. On one of them sits one of the Heroes of the Prytaneum: Chris Breaux, broad-shouldered and big and blonde, but with a comfortable hoodie on over a teeshirt, and, somehow, in true bro fashion, board shorts and flipflops. When he sees anyone approaching, he waves them over with a smile that could probably light up the room.

When more people approach and sit down, and the crowd is looking around at one another and murmuring, making small talk and some jokes, he speaks up [in a voice with a strangely twangy southern accent -- not Texan, but Cajun]: "We're playing Two Truths and a Lie. I'm sure you know how this works, but if you don't, I'll explain:

Start out by saying three statements. Two of them have gotta be true; the other one is a lie. As outlandish as you want, but y'know, more believable is better. Keep people guessing!

Whoever responds to you will pick one of them. If it's a lie, you have to come clean. Be prepared to learn some stuff about one another -- though there's no guarantees about what you're gonna learn."

~~~~~~~~~~
OOC note: Anyone can respond to anyone else at any time -- no post order required! Every person who posts starts by taking a guess at which of the person above them's statements is a lie, and then provides 3 statements of their own. When someone guesses at your lie, you can respond to them at your leisure to let them know if they got it or not.
There's really no way to win -- it's just an IC character mixer, getting to know your fellow residents of the Prytaneum, and giving you an OOC chance to refine your brand new characters.
As such, it may be a good idea to quote anyone you're speaking to, just to keep the RP going and make sure people see that they've been addressed!
Brynn was only too happy to join in the games -- dropping down next to Chris with a smile spreading on her face that bright and cheerful and excited. She wore baggy overalls under a flight jacket adorned with patches, her hair frizzy and wild and probably dirty, pulled back into a loose ponytail.
"I have some!" Brynn had an accent: British, but with a lilt of something musical to it. Her Rs tapped against her tongue as she spoke.
"I'm Brynn Abernathy, Hephaestus, I run the studios -- oh, no, that doesn't count, don't count that." A pause, frowning just faintly, and then she found her facts instead.
"I'm from Swansea, Wales." Maybe this explained her rolling accent.
"I, ah, I studied Robotics at University." It seemed plausible, especially considering her position and god.
"I have three older brothers." And she did look like the type of girl to have overprotective brothers.
Theo sat quietly enough, watching the chattering people around her and the guy who seemed to be in charge of this little exercise in particular. With a tiny smirk, she had to admit to herself that this game made for a good ice-breaker. Absently, she undid her messy bun and ran fingers through caramel-honey hair to get rid of any tangle as the girl who introduced herself as Brynn started the game.
"Okay, I'll bite," Theo spoke up, surprising herself. As she pulled her hair back into a ponytail, she grinned. "I'm gonna guess the three older brothers are the lie. It's the only one that makes any sense given your accent and god. Which now makes it my turn, I guess."
Frowning a little as she considered her facts, she finally shrugged and spoke matter-of-factly.
"Name's Theodosia Davis, but let's stick with Theo, mmkay? Poseidon chose me and here are my facts.
"I was attacked by a bull shark when I was younger." It certainly seemed plausible to those who could see the scarring on her legs.
"I punched a city councilman's son in the face last spring break." Well, she did look strong and possibly ornery enough to do such a thing. But what would be the point?
"I'm a college graduate with a degree in Marine Bio." Again, very plausible considering her god.
"Daring," Mal said, unbuttoning his jacket as he found a cushion to his liking and sat on it. He started the day out neatly, but the firelight softens the wrinkles in his clothing and the stain on his tie, probably leftover from lunch. "I would have said the robotics degree." The firelight reflected off of his glasses until he pushed them up on his nose, the movement characteristic of anyone who'd worn them for so long they were habit.
"Theo. The punch is the lie." But he grinned just a little bit at her when he said it, inviting her to tell him he was wrong; he wouldn't mind if he was.
"I'm Mal, Chosen of Zeus. Hmm." He considered the fire before he offered his own three choices, settling his arms across his knees.
"I'm a Criminal Justice graduate," which was entirely possible considering his god.
"I've got a younger brother who doesn't speak to me," could be anything, though it wasn't unlikely.
"I found my ex in the arms of my partner," and gods knew that Zeus had his share of flings, so that could be possible too.
Theo made a finger gun and mimed firing it at Mal before allowing herself a slight smile.
"Oh, the punch is true. But it wasn't the councilman's son nor did it happen last spring break. You're pretty good at guessing."
As he gave his own facts, she wondered if she, as a chosen of Poseidon, was allowed to get along with people chosen by the sea god's brother. Wasn't that a big part of the legends? Poseidon and Zeus were always in conflict? Come to think of it, there really weren't many gods who got along all the time with each other. Hopefully, that godly tendency wouldn't translate to the humans they'd selected to be here.
It was certainly something to think about as she listened to the people around her offer up bits of themselves.
Eden couldn't believe they were sitting around playing this but...
"It's gotta be your brother right." Eden frowned, "you wouldn't call her your ex unless you dumped her a** or your partner." Eden plopped down after laying a jacket down.
"So like, I feel like the youngest. I'm Eden, of Aphrodite Chosen." He frowned.
"I'm into cute fashion." considering what he was wearing, between the black and pink and bunnies and crosses well...
"My Mom is a fancy lawyer, Dad's a stay at home dad or whatever." Immediate disgust on his face.
"I'm a junior in high school." Considering he was the youngest...and could still have that fine line between adult/kid, it was probably true. Plus Aphrodite liked pretty ones right?
No god really got along with any other god for more than a bit. Even the ones who were married didn't really get along with each other. Mal figured that the gods were a lot like people, who didn't all always get along. A diverse enough group and you'd end up with what you ended up with; people you could tolerate for shorter or longer periods of time, people you liked, people you clicked with. It was all a mix.
Mal grinned at Eden. "Criminal Justice, actually. I have a degree in economics. My brother's happily affianced to an old work pal's nephew. I expect to get the invitation at some point, if we actually ever get mail here."
He nodded at Theo. "You seem like it. And the other two, well, your god." It got a one shouldered shrug. He could see Poseiden approving of someone who survived that and went on to study the sea anyway.
As the others played the game, Brynn leaned in a little -- voice dropped to a bit of a whisper, amused. "You're right. I'm an only child."
"I'm callin' you on that," Chris said, gesturing with his chin towards Eden. "I don't think you're in high school. Probably just out, am I right?"
Of course, Chris didn't look as old as he was, either -- not really. But that was all okay. He thought a moment, gaze a bit vacant, and then perked up, sitting more loosely, knees apart and elbows resting on top of them.
"I was born on a boat," he started.
"I speak three different languages."
"I dropped out of college but went for sports medicine."
"That's real shitty though still." Eden had no idea why the man would smile about the ex part but at least the brother was well.."but congrats on your bro and uh, your economics degree or whatever that is."
To Chris, Eden didn't smile but cocked his head.
"I'm 16 actually, couple more suspensions, sure I would've been out but not really." He tapped his nose, "Think if I ask them around here, they'd share some booze and cigarettes?" His gaze wasn't hopeful. curious. but not hopeful.
Asher -- small, dark-haired, with a permanently amused expression on his face -- mostly sat sprawled on a blanket around the edge of things and observed the new recruits through narrowed eyes. The day had been hot, but now, as the dark crept in around the edges, it was actually nice to have the fire there, something to keep night's chill at bay. It made him drowsy, distracted.
He didn't intend to participate, but his eyes swept over Chris in a thoughtful sort of way.
"I think you speak two languages, not three." It came out of his mouth with a yawn -- and then, sighing, he ruffled his hair. By the rules of the game, now he had to have a go. He flicked a look around, chewing on truths and lies both.
"Asher, Hermes I guess." He raised a hand, sitting halfway up and brushing at his shoulder as he did.
"Uh. I'm from New Jersey." He had no accent: it was impossible to tell the truth of this statement.
"...I've been hit by cars nine times." Which seemed like a high number, but was also oddly specific for a lie.
"I've never been arrested." This one came after a long hesitation, though if it was because he was looking for a truth or plotting a lie...
"Nope," Chris said, with a touch of glee in his voice. "Three -- Cajun French, Spanish, and English. One not so well as the others, learned Spanish in high school, but it counts, right?"
He paused, and then continued, "I never went to college. Apprenticed, instead."
Mathilda plopped down on a couple of pillows.
"Two truths and a lie, huh? Nice. Hermes boy, the non-arrest ain't true."
She hummed and leaned back on her elbows.
"Mathilda Callahan. Aries chosen, yay." Her voice was laced with heavy sarcasm. "And as for the truths and lie:"
"Assassin-ing runs in the family, mother and father and so on." Given her shoes and black clothing, it seemed likely. But really, assassin-ing?
"Got a degree in German and Economics, minor in Genetics. I'm crazy smart." Seriously? Her? Well you never know.
"Lastly, hmm....any of you gamers? Alice: Madness Returns? Totally my game. But, back on topic, I own the building of my bakery, live above it. Also own a bakery in Germany, but I got employees who run that one." Well...that was underwhelming.
Satisfied, Mathilda leaned back, smiling and munching on a cookie.
Grinning, Theo gave Brynn a thumbs up and made herself more comfortable as the game proceeded.
"I'm insulted." His tone was deadpan, though; Asher didn't actually sound insulted. "No, I've never been arrested. And also, I'm from New York, not the garbage pile."
