Trivia Collecting Contest!

This contest goes on until Monday the 30th

This contest is to help make a coherent guide for Gem culture and history!

The show at this point has had a firm grip on letting us know *to* much about their objectives, history, culture, and caste system. This is a collective effort to help others who might not be as familiar with the show enjoy the shop.

Please, I know it's tempting but try and stay away from theories. And yes, your facts can include information about the rebellion and the crystal gems.

Since there has been a few leaked episodes, please put all entries in a spoiler tag.

Put all points of your collected trivia as bullets, to be easily read and consumed. Organization is up to you!
For example:

★ The gem homeworld is a matriarchal society

Depending on the quality of the entries, there might be more than one winner for multiple custom slots!

I am looking for quantity, quality and "Oh s**t, I didn't know that..." moments.

★ The crossing of 2 or more different gems is an abomination.
★ There are 2 current known ruling Diamonds: Blue Diamond, and Yellow Diamond.
★ Pearls are considered "pretty objects" and are usually reduced to no more than servants.
★ Rubies are naturally unintelligent and do grunt work [well, mostly...].
★ It IS possible for a human and gem to bear children, if the gem desires. They must, however, give up their physical form in order to pass their gem to the child.
★ Gems, upon serious damage, will revert to a stone form. Damage to the stone itself can lead to severe alterations to their physical forms.

Aaaand that's what I can recall off the top of my head. Not really... wow factor... but... XD

★ 5,750 years ago, a race called Gems came to Earth with the intention of colonizing the planet with no regard to life already existing there.
★ Homeworld established a foothold on Earth known as a Kindergarten which they used to create new Gems.
★ A rebellion started by Rose Quartz eventually drove off the Gems to return to what they call Homeworld.
★ Rose Quartz and the group of Gems that followed her to support the rebellion were called Crystal Gems.
★ When the Gems that came to invade Earth returned to Homeworld, the Crystal Gems, Corrupted Gems, Gem shards of defeated Gems, and stranded Gems were left behind with no way to go back.
★ Homeworld abandoned Earth rather than lost it, injecting the Cluster into its core in an attempt to destroy the planet.
★ Among the Gems of Homeworld, Gem Fusion is a practice thought to make weak Gems stronger by allowing 2 or more of the same type of Gem to fuse and become a larger, more capable entity.
★ Homeworld society heavily stigmatizes fusion between Gems of different types
★ Fusion between Gems of the same type is reserved solely for combat.
★ When a fusion is formed with Gems of the same type of gemstone, the resultant fusion will look like the participant ones, but bigger.
★ Gems are made, not born. They are usually created by other gems from Homeworld with some purpose in mind, so each Gem has a role to play in Gem society when they come out of the ground.
★ Gems are fully-formed when they pop out of the ground.
★ Gems do not age but may alter their physical body according to their state of mind.
★ 'Facets' are a unit of measure to Gems.
★ There can be multiples of the same kind of Gem.
★ On Homeworld, there is a hierarchy of Gems and they use a strict caste system to maintain it. All Gems lesser than the Great Diamond Authority are made to serve the Diamonds.
★ Homeworld Gems each have a Diamond they were created for and serve under.
★ The caste system on Homeworld is determined by the gemstone of the gems and the category their type of gem falls under. In example, Blue Diamond, Yellow Diamond, and White Diamond are all under the Diamond category while Amethyst, Jasper, and Rose Quartz are all types of Quartz.
★ Quartz Gems are supposed to be "huge, loyal soldiers who are broad shouldered, and intimidating." They vary in coloration and appearance. They are considered high-ranked in homeworld's hierarchy.
★ Rubies as "common soldiers" that usually come in groups, and most commonly fuse with one another in combat, possibly to compensate for their height. They do not seem used to thinking for themselves, following orders as commanded.
★ Pearls are made-to-order servants in the Homeworld caste and thought of as accessories that are meant to be put on display as status symbols and to perform menial tasks. On Homeworld, there are hundreds of Pearls created to stand around while looking pretty as well as respond to orders such as carrying and holding things for other Gems rather than to fight. Pearls come in various colors and have varying qualities but all appear to be very slender rather than muscular or sturdy.
★ Pearl of the Crystal Gems has the ability to absorb items into her gemstone and produce them again when necessary. This may be an ability of all Pearls referred to by the statement that they are meant to 'hold other Gems' things'.
★ Peridots are an engineer/technician caste operating starships and Kindergarten facilities. Peridots are low-ranking enough that they rarely, if ever, have their own Pearl servant.
★ The only seen Lapis Lazuli on the show has displayed the ability of hyrdokinesis. She uses this ability to manipulate water into the shape of wings which she can fly with.
★ Gems are constantly attempting to colonize other planets for their own use.
★ Love is not a feeling that is familiar to most Gems because they are made to think logically, practically, and efficiently.
★ "I like the cut of your Gem" is a compliment among Homeworld Gems.
★ To create a Gem, colorful goo is put into the ground and left to ‘incubate’ before popping out.
★ Creating Gems is a process that is very harmful to the environment to the point that it would have ultimately led to the destruction of all life on Earth if the Gems weren't driven off by the rebellion.
★ Gem civilization is very advanced, capable of creating spaceships, pocket dimensions, and teleporters.
★ Gem spaceships were commonly used thousands of years ago and may now be considered archaic due to the advent of teleporters.
★ Gem culture is quite different from human culture given the Crystal Gems' confusion over seemingly everyday human cultural practices such as birthdays and video games.
★ Gem culture is an ancient one predating all known human civilizations.
★ Gems are differentiated from other Gems of their category by identification codes based off of "Facet" and "Cut". For example, Peridot's specification is Facet-2F5L, Cut-5XG.
★ Individuality is not highly valued among Gems. While each gem may exhibit their own unique nuances in personality, they all primarily adhere to the fundamental behavior and preferences of their caste and types. However, like organic beings, the gems are able to mentally evolve past the norm of their caste and develop unique personalities of their own. The most prime examples of this are the members of the Crystal Gems.
★ Most Gems hold little value for the preciousness of life. Being part of a society where several individuals shares the same basic character traits, the Gems have come to objectify people. As such, they tend to treat each other and themselves as disposable commodities. This indifferent outlook on the value of life extends to other species as they have destroyed numerous worlds to expand their empire without concern for the local inhabitants.
★ Gems have their own written alphabet which is inscribed on many of their temples.
★ Gem architecture can be seen scattered across the Earth in the form of structures such as the Lunar Spire, the Communication Hub, and the Galaxy Warp.
★ While there has never been mention of Gems practicing any form of spiritualism, the existence of the Moon Goddess Statue along with the Sea Shrine and the Pyramid Temple imply some sort of belief system.
★ Gems are not organic beings so they do not need to eat or require sleep.
★ Gems are capable of sleeping if they so choose and are also capable of dreaming while asleep.
★ Although they do not need sleep, it is possible for Gems to tire when they are physically exhausted.
★ Gems can shapeshift and create bodies to mimic those of organic beings such as humans. This includes creating organs such as stomach to simulate the human practice of eating and digesting.
★ While Gems do not require sustenance, they produce bodily waste after consuming food using their simulated digestive system.
★ Gems' physical bodies are capable of producing bodily fluids and of being damaged such as when scraped.
★ Pearl referred to Gem bodies as 'human constructs'.
★ Gem culture does not have a gender binary or a concept of gender.
★ Gems refer to each other using feminine pronouns by default but have no particular reason for doing so beyond arbitrary convenience.
★ The term "matriarch" is used when referring to the Great Diamond Authority.
★ In their default state, Gems typically appear feminine by human standards.
★ The Diamonds are the highest ranking Gems and the matriarchs of the entire species who form Homeworld's "Diamond authority".
★ The Diamonds are believed to be flawless by Homeworld society.
★ Diamonds are also much larger than the average Gem, dwarfing all other known Gem types with only some fusions exceeding them in height.
★ Blue Diamond was the overseer of Earth's colonization effort.
★ Sapphires are rare Gems that hold an aristocratic status.
★ Certain Gems have certain abilities unique to them such as Sapphire's ability to see into the future. Garnet also has this ability, but only because she is a fusion of Sapphire and Ruby.
★ Fusions are two or more Gems fused together.
★ Fusions have as many gemstones as the Gems they are comprised of. Said gemstones also have the same placement on the body of the Fusion that they did on the Gems they are comprised of.
★ If multiple Gems with the same gemstone placement fuse, their gems will be placed side-by-side.
★ Fusions are capable of further fusing with other Gems to create even larger Fusions.
★ Fusions tend to highly exaggerate whatever personality traits are shared amongst the majority of the Gems comprising the Fusion.
★ Fusions have the abilities and weapons of each Gem that was fused to create them.
★ Fusions between Gems are not permanent, but Gems can remain fused for as long as the Gem or Gems that make up the fusion have the will to stay together.
★ When Gems in a given Fusion have incompatible personalities or have conflicting motives for fusing and for whatever reason do not (or can not) terminate the Fusion, it results in an unstable fusion. When this happens, the constituent Gems risk losing touch with their individual personalities the longer the fusion persists.
★ Gems cannot fuse with humans.
★ Gem-hybrids can fuse with humans, such as Steven did with Connie to form Stevonnie, but it's unknown if hybrids can fuse with Gems.
★ It is possible to fuse shards of shattered Gems, but the result are mindless monsters that seek to become whole and find their other missing shards.
★ Gem Monsters are either "corrupted" or "broken" Gems which, presumably, were unable to maintain humanoid form and sentience. Corrupted gems were battle-damaged Gems.
★ Gemstones can be used as a power source even if damaged.
★ Gems have no reproductive organs by default and do not naturally biologically reproduce as organic beings do.
★ While biological reproduction is an alien concept to Gems, it is not impossible for them. Gems can't reproduce with each other, but they can create Gem-hybrid offspring. Through shape-shifting, they can perfectly replicate reproductive organs of organic beings for their "human constructs" in order to reproduce. Rose Quartz is the only Gem to have done this and her son, Steven, inherited her Gemstone, without which she could not project a physical form and subsequently "died".
★ When Peridot was asked what it was like to be created on Homeworld, she says she does not remember anything and only had feelings. She describes it as not existing then suddenly existing.
★ The process for each Gem to summon their weapons depends on a different state of mind for each of them.
★ Gems somehow possess DNA even though they are inorganic. The Gem equivalent to genetic information is stored in their gemstone, allowing Rose Quartz to integrate her information with Greg's DNA by giving up her physical form and passing her Gem along to Steven.
★ Gems' skin tones are always related to the color of their gemstones. This color can alter slightly with each regeneration of a physical body but will still always be related to the color of their gemstones.
★ Gems have the ability to 'bubble' things and people to keep them safe and/or imprison them.
★ Gems, by default, do not have a heart or heartbeat.

  • Gems can be multiple abilities applied to them. For example, Pearl in the show was shown to have sand and fog manipulation.
  • Gems can emit a light from their gems to illuminate areas. It is akin to a flashlight.
  • Rubies and Sapphires have the ability of thermo-regulation.
  • Garnet was shown to have electrical powers.
  • Homeworld Gems may be familiar with the metric system. (Peridot uses gigapascals as a unit of measurement of pressure.)
  • Gems have used other planets for gem cultivation.
  • Gem genetics are revealed to be known as "gemetics".
  • Garnet is revealed to be the very first fusion of two different kinds of Gems.
  • Gems automatically adjust to the gravity of whatever planetary body they are on.
  • Only about 5% of the Gem facilities which were planned to be constructed on Earth were actually constructed before the Rebellion put a halt to it.
  • On Homeworld, individual Gems actually have long strings of serial numbers to distinguish them.
  • Gems and gem shards can create bubbles even when they are not in their physical form.
