 It was another one of those days. Wednesday was stuck having to pair up with someone they didn't know, or like, and come up with some sort of inspirational presentation. So many new races had been popping up, and it felt like the school was constantly trying to remind the students to be kindly and accepting of the new races as people tried to learn about their cultures. Wednesday had got the point about three projects ago. The same one just kept popping up and up ... it was getting tiring. The teacher started assigning partners, and waited to see what kid she'd get stuck with this time.

 Philo chewed on his claws nervously, watching with darting eyes as the children around her were slowly paired off. Much to Philo's relief, he didn't have the awful task of having to choose his own partner. He was too timid for that, and wasn't exactly eager to stick his foot out there and try and make new friends. He was perfectly comfortable on his own, and the idea of having to work with a total stranger gave him a mild case of the anxiety jitters. It would have been fine if his sister was in the same class. He could have requested to be with her ... but they were in different classes this time around. Philo sighed nervously, shifting uncomfortably in his seat. "Alright, let's see .... Philo!" the boy flinched and perked at the same time as the teacher called out his name. "You'll be paired with Wednesday!"The hybrid glanced around, looking to see if he could spot a student looking at him. His eyes fell on a pair of heart-shaped ones, the girl giving him a somewhat mean look, and the boy sank in his seat ... "Oh ... okay .... "

Wednesday groaned. She caught one look at the ice-blue hybrid across the room from her and knew the kid was one of those 'damaged goods' type. Why did she always get paired up with the nervous and feeble? Welp, she better get to it. Rolling her eyes, Wednesday pushed back from her seat, gathered up her things and headed over to her partner, trying her best not to look so unhappy about the situation. "Hey." she said plainly, pulling up an empty chair to the boy's desk. "I'm Wednesday. Nice to meet you." it was a little bit of a lie. In truth, she didn't care. But she was trying. Might as well not make this any more miserably than it needed to be. "So. Kirin and Naiads, eh? The Neko and Nagas before them. What are your thoughts on them?" What was the point in dawdling? Might as well get the kid's thought out and down on paper so she had something to work with and incorporate in to their presentation.

Philo stared with wide, round eyes. The girl was so direct, and seemed so firm. He had watched her make her way across the room, scrape her chair up to his desk and settle in. While she introduced herself as his partner, she didn't waste any time getting in to the heat of things. It made Philo shirk further back in his seat. "U-uuuh ... uh ... " Philo stammered, furrowing his brows together as he tried to think about the questions the hybrid had so blatantly asked. "O-on ... Kirins and Naiads? Ahm. Well, the Kirins seem really lovely, and the Naiads look very delicate ... their fins are quite nice." a small smile formed then on the boy's pale lips. Thinking about his children potentially having Naiad traits was like a dream come true. He loved the Naiads ...

"Uh ... huh .... " Wednesday wasn't entirely convinced Philo was going to be an easy partner. Maybe she hadn't posed her question correctly, but talking about how the naiad's looked wasn't quite was Wednesday had expected. "I mean about their mannerisms. Their culture. Not their fins." Wednesday gave a hefty sigh and jotted down what Philo had said anyways. Maybe she could twist it enough to be able to work it in to something usable. "I think we're going to need a trip to the library. Sounds like we'll need the help of some of the books there to get a better idea about their societies."

Was Wednesday mean-spirited, or did she just think she was better than him? Smarter than him? While Philo was timid in nature, he wasn't a push over. He wasn't going to let this project be something he dreaded just because he had an unsavory partner. "Fine." Philo said, a little more flatly this time. His expression had shifted, the boy dropping his hand in to his lap. "I'll pick out the books. I think they have one there about the courting rituals of Kirins that would be an interesting read."Philo got to his feet and grabbed his bags without even so much as glancing at Wednesday, his expression looking a touch annoyed, no thanks to Wednesday's behaviour.

"What's your problem?" Wednesday wrinkled her nose as her partner stood up, their tone of voice having suddenly grown sharp. "Did I do something to offend you?"The hybrid returned her gaze to the notebook she had been jotting ideas down in. She had written down a lot of things already, and had begun on a second page already. For now, she closed up her book and tucked it in to her bag so she could reference it at the library. "Anyways, I have a few books suggestions too. I'm sure they'll be useful."

Philo stared at the girl with a perplexed expression. Was she not aware she was being a bit of a jerk? Surely she must know her own behaviour. Philo sucked on his lip gently, refraining from asking the girl what her problem was. She was docile compared to Naedia and Lilianne. "I can pick out the books." he restated, starting to head to the front of the room. He had been so determined to make this as pleasant of an experience as he could muster, but Wednesday didn't seem to want to cooperate. This project was going to be like pulling teeth ,,, but afterwards, he'd never had to talk to Wednesday again if he didn't want to, and that would be the end of that. Hopefully.

"We can both pick out the books!" Wednesday said firmly. Seriously, this kid was starting to get on her nerves. He had gone from being quiet and shy to suddenly all 'holier than thou'. It didn't jive with Wednesday at all. Tch. Let this day just be over already! Wednesday took the lead, running up behind him and stopping a few paces ahead of him to leave the way to the library. "I'll guide us." she said a bit competitively.

Philo scoffed visibly. How was he supposed to work with this girl? She was mean, she was really rude, and she had barely any consideration for anyone else at all. It was no wonder Philo never saw her with anyone else. Though, that wasn't entirely true. He had seen her with a red little geist boy a few times, and they seemed to get along well. Was he mean too? Or was she just nice to him? It made Philo ponder why Wednesday was so harsh to him, but potentially not to others. Maybe the two just didn't click. When he considered this, he realized ... he was okay with the idea. Sometimes, people just weren't compatible, and that was just as alright as being compatible with someone. A wave of relief washed over Philo, and he relaxed in to himself a little. Sure, this would be a challenge ... but, maybe, if he was lucky, he could learn how to better handle people like Wednesday in the future.
