DawnThe Dark Morningstar

Heilkat sat, poised on the edge of the waterfall located outside her main Den. The female heaved a soft heavy sigh. Time was moving by and not a single thing held her interest for long. Long steady strides had her from the top-most rock at the peek of her waterfall, to a small hidden path which led to a cave. She wandered here sometimes. The cave itself lead onward and forward...she never went far into it. Something always spooked her. Today was no exception. She sat in the entrance merely gazing into the depths as the water roared behind her. She looked back at the water for a moment...

The moment Heilkats eye looked to the water, a bubble rose up from the murky depths, causing the surface to ripple. Yet that single bubble was followed by more until finely a face came into view and was looking straight back at her. Only this face wasn't a reflection of her own. It lacked eyes and it's maw was twisted back into a wide grin with the most terrifyingly serrated teeth. It's coloring that much more disturbing. Blue with death...like a body that had been waterlogged.

Anyone would have waved this off as a delusion brought on my her uneasiness of the area but this delusion proved to be all to real as the faceless creature pulled itself from the water, its claws digging into the earth beneath it. Ignoring the water that drenched his pelt, her canted his head to the side and somehow seemed to be staring at her in his own sort of way. A low growl reverberated in his chest though it was not one of hostility. Instead it was more curious in nature.

Heilkat's outward expression showed not a single care in the world. Inwardly however things were slowly...well...she was debating between cave and water. As the figure stepped fully out however she was ready to chance the freaking cave. Screw this. That thing looked ready to eat----was that...curiosity? Heilkat tilted her head...

"Curiosity killed the cat..." she muttered, then weighed her options. "...but satisfaction brought it back. Alright then. Lets see if you crawled out of my home turf or not." the female was wary as she took a few steps forward. Seeing the creature had no eyes she assumed it was all on sound and scent. So, for his benefit...she flicked a rock near one of her front paws. Mindful of the their distance. If he got too close too fast...well her natural fire would singe enough as a warning if she wanted it to. She noticed the second maw on its stomach, her own rolling inward in a silent cringe. The male was impressive in his own way, size was of little matter. Heilkat knew most would be way bigger than her...she was the runt of her litter after all.

"I suppose civil conversation is off the table?" if that growl was anything to go by.

His ears twitched at the sound of Heli's voice. It was lyrical and bold...just like Cordeila's had been. His beloved witch snatched away from him and he was left to wander until the silent black world he'd come from reclaimed his being. Yet this made no sense. Shouldn't he still be there instead of being in the mortal world. He'd not been summoned so what was the cause of his sudden rising. Was it because of this new female? Had she somehow pulled him from his dreary slumber? He took a step forward and paused the very moment she flicked a stone with her paw.

He lowered his head as if glancing at it before rising his head and angling it to face her once again. He whiffed the air and found himself to feel inebriated. Her scent of smoke and cinnamon was intoxicating and she burned with the need to smell more. He took yet another step forward, his curious growls shifting into a purr to convey his lack of malice. He also did this to calm her nerves. The tension was so thick he could practically taste it.

Heilkat couldn't help feeling a tad relaxed at the sound of the purrs. Well, those were deep. She almost wanted to curl against him but...her gaze kept wandering to his stomach. This must of been a demon summoned from another level of the underworld from whence she came. Either way the male was intriguing. She got a bit closer to him then. Wanting to at least feel him against her.

Would his pelt be wet? Clammy? She tilted her head reaching out her nose. Her flames had lessened in their intensity and will to harm. She sat before speaking. "My name is Heilkat. I don't suppose you have a way for someone to learn yours?"

He remained still, so still in fact that he could give a statue a run for it’s money. His nose sniffed the air in quick succession as he relied on her scent to convey her mood. He could sense that she had calmed but he continued that baritone purr of his to keep her from freaking out with what he was about to do. Once sure that she wouldn’t suddenly become aggressive, he took a step forward and then another. His ears twitched again when she spoke. Her name caused him to shiver. It was both beautiful and powerful. There was so much in a name and her name spoke volumes about her. Even her scent gave him quite a bit of information about her. So she too was not of this realm.

Now it was his turn to share his information. Once he was but inches away from her, he pressed his forehead against her own and released the most primal growlish purr she’d likely ever heard. Overwhelmingly fast, images flooded her mind of who he was and how he came to be.

Heilkat felt the information enter her. Eyes glowing brighter for a few moments as her mind and soul processed the information. Shaking herself a bit she purred back to show she understood. It really was easy to understand one close to her own origin. She still would speak however because the male wasn't exactly attuned to her just yet. She leaned her head into his letting him feel her warmth.

"Visnir." she purred his name with a unseen smile. She then looked around. "So...what now...do we leave this cave...or..." she felt her body warm. A few of those....interesting memories fueling that inner flame. She cleared her mind as if to beat it down for the moment.

Visnir turned his head in the direction of cave and sniffed the air. Immediately he went still and his hackles rose, a low and weary growl escaping him. While he himself didn't feel threatened, he wasn't sure how Heil would fair and he most certainly wasn't ready to lose her just yet. There were still so many opportunities to explore and so many things to do with and to her. They would need to continue their interaction where it was safer and where it wasn't likely that they would be disturbed.

Turning his head from the direction of the cave, his pressed his forehead against hers once again and instead of images she could hear something. It was a voice...male...but their was something off putting about it. It both sounded raspy from lack of use and almost strained as if it were trying to get it's message out while choking on water.

We should go. Not safe.

Heil felt the rumble, heard the voice and nodded a tad numbly. The male's voice was different from others, though she knew she'd never hear it unless he wanted her to. She was fine with that. Nuzzling him, she didn't mind the dampness. She nosed him in a direction. "Follow me..."

She lead the male out. It was night now. She looked up, letting the glow from her own body guide them. She looked back to the male. "Follow my warmth. You won't get lost. I won't let you." she made her way to her personal Den. Sighing in contentment she padded her way up to the entrance. It was rare she bring anyone...let alone a male in. She stopped before looking back to check on her companion.

Visnir returned her light affections, before rising to his feet to follow her command. He only spared the cave a brief glance from over his shoulder. He most certainly would have to investigate it later. However, right now he had something else to focus on. Maw spreading into a Cheshire grin her followed Heil as she led the way, memorizing the path through scent and feel. His anticipation rose swiftly when the scent of the land mixed with her own and sky rocketed when they reached a spot where her scent was potent. He knew that this must be her den.

He showed no fear in exploring. He wanted to familiarize himself with every nook and cranny that he could. He even rubbed against a few areas so that any other that came here would know that they would have to contend with him should they dare cross her. Heil was now his...in a matter of speaking. Yes she could do as she wished and mate with whomever she pleased but hence forth she was his charge. When she have need of him he would answer. She resonated with him in a sense that was unlike the mortal tie he had with Cordelia and such a connection could not be ignored.

How long have you been here?

Heil didn't mind the other male wandering around like he did she meanwhile went to lay on the large area where she nested. It was bigger than she was, mostly due to her biological instinct making her create a nest big enough for a large litter. She chuckled. "In this Den, since my horns bore the flames of my clan. Tradition stated that I would of made a Den with a male of equal power but..."

He would hear the flicker of a tail against stone. "None could contend. Most balked at the intensity my flames could reach." She raked a paw on the stone. Letting him hear when her paw hit fur. "Come. You can lay here as well. I don't mind. The furs here are all from my kills."

Visnir's wanderings would of revealed a rather large Den, much to large for one lone female. There were nooks that felt carved through hours of work, others that were naturally formed. There was a pool which he could hear a small stream of water flowing into. It would flow outside through a small stream that exited through a small hole to avoid overfill. If she had to the female could block the hole with a small rock. There were soft furs seemingly scattered over randomly placed outcroppings. One would take a second to realize that they could be a playground for small defenseless kits if she had any. A small area next to the water would reveal a shallow pit where the smell of fruit and other herbivore things laid waiting. The nest itself took up the back portion of the Den, furs of varying textures littered it. Off to the side was a pile of bones. All in all...a rather nice Den for one female. She must of had years to craft it to her liking.

Visnir was quite impressed with the amount of work she had put into her den. While he himself wasn't lazy by nature, he wouldn't have gone this far unless he had reason to. He was quite content with resting where ever his body fell. He wasn't picky. Not to say Heil was picky either but this was quite a lot for a single Ulaya. Then a thought struck him. She made this den for a family and yet she was alone. Had she had kits that fled the den once they were of age? It would make sense, though the only scent here was hers. Pulling himself away from his wanderings, he made quick work of laying himself behind her, pulling her closer himself with his paw and immediately his stomach started to gently nibble her back.

Have you any kits?

He purred lightly, relishing in the feeling of being so close to another after so long. Oh how he had missed the sensation of cuddling and communicating. There was nothing more intimate.

She jumped a bit at the nibbles along her back. Then relaxed shaking her head as she spoke. "No. No kits...though the thought warms my core." She wasn't desperate for kits. They were just a sign that she wasn't as strong and...monstrous as her clan made her out to be. She shifted closer to the other male glancing back to the stomach. Smiling she couldn't believe a bit. She looked to the other male, taking in his face...she nuzzled him gently under his chin. It was submissive, but she had felt power from him. It was odd...the male was most likely her opposing element.

"What about you?" she was curious. What was the males stand on kits?

A deep and mournful sigh left him. In another life...long ago perhaps he would have been a sire. Yet the fates had not been smiling at him or his beloved. He had blamed himself for so long because of it. Saw himself to be a failure for failing in protecting them.

Almost. She died with her mother before she had chance to draw her first breathe. Murdered.

Anger swelled within him and as a result he pulled Heil even closer, as if he feared that someone or something would try to snatch her away from him. No. He'd not allow it. Not after having to spend so long in silence and solitude. She was his! At least for now...for as long as she would allow it.

But...I have come to learn that things are as they are for a reason. Back then the world was a cruel place and she would have been hunted. My beautiful princess deserved more than the life she was denied......but now things are different....in this life anyway. Mayhaps we will both get what we desire.

Heil felt herself get pulled closer. Shivering a little as more of her back met with his stomach. She took a few deep breaths. Her flames dying down a little more to avoid hurting him. She looked up at him smiling. "Perhaps we will, though I will caution you. My back is highly sensitive. Take care to not rile me up if you don't plan on following through."

The female issued the silent challenge to the bigger male just to see what he would do...
