It was bound to happen eventually.
With rumors of great beasts roaming the shores of Yael, many mainlanders flocked across the sea to capture the exotic beasts. In no time at all, they returned with large scaled monsters, dangerously translucent serpents, and turtles that carried the earth. These traders traveled across the Mainland to parade the beasts, going from Matori to Zena and everywhere between. Soon enough, everyone had either seen the Yaeli beasts or at least heard of them.
And they were sure to hear about the beasts when they escaped.
With such little knowledge of the foreign creatures, the traders underestimated the animals. In no time at all, the Yaeli beasts escaped into the wilderness and ended up near your location. With new creatures all but knocking on your door, what do you do? Do you dare to try and tame them, or do you run them off back into the wilderness? You better hurry, because these creatures are lost and scared, and are sure to cause some damage before they are captured once more....
|| The Yaeli familiars have been spotted in the following locations: Tintural (Oba and Matori), Keldari (Jauhar/Chibale and Tale), Limbara (Sauti and Zena). Only individuals in set locations can encounter the specific familiars.
|| If you are located in Yael, respond to this prompt as if you witnessing a mainlander abducting one of the newly announced familiars. Do you step in or run away? Use the same rolls below, but instead of subduing the beast, you are rolling to test your success for freeing it.
This prompt will be resolved by each player rolling 1D100 to test their success. (You can only roll once - there are no reattempts!)
xxxxxPrentice must roll 60-100 to successfully subdue the beast. xxxxxStage 2 must roll 50-100 to successfully subdue the beast. xxxxxStage 3 must roll 40-100 to successfully subdue the beast xxxxxStage 4 must roll 30-100 to successfully subdue the beast.
|| Success or fail, completion of this event rewards you with 15 EXP!
|| If you roll a 95-100, you get to keep the familiar! Congrats!
|| Those who win a familiar should be followed up by a PM to our Beast Battle Mule: Beast Tamer Freya with this form:
Species || Tintural, Keldari, or Limbara Gender || Name || Owner || [username of owner, not character name] URL ||

'Purpose' was not often something Skadravi felt pressed to pursue. There was a great lot of world, with a great many people, all wanting a great variety of things. Adding his wants and needs to the mix hardly felt necessary, and wanting something almost begged the realm not to let him have it. Disappointment wasn't something the hybrid man particularly wanted to experience. So if he didn't 'need,' if he didn't try, it felt less likely that disappointment would be in his future.
Not today.
His trek to Matori with Khalel meant they were spending a lot of time outdoors, beneath the harsh sunlight. When the thought first occurred to him, this hadn't seemed so bad. He'd stayed outside a lot. The sun rarely offended him. But in the great swatches of desert with no cover except what you could hold over your head, the sun became the most vile enemy one could imagine. Cities were few and far between on the road, and while he hadn't planned to stay in any inns they passed, it was a temptation he couldn't pass up. Not for himself, and certainly not for his pampered noble companion.
Every time he checked into one, he felt a horrible nagging. They shouldn't stay somewhere they had to pay for. They didn't have the funds. This wasn't in the budget. They hadn't planned-
Regardless, it was already done.
And like so many others, he needed money.
Skadravi found himself in town that day, approaching a white-bearded old Oban with a scowl that looked to be carved from stone. His troubles had brought him here, though he deeply suspected this would sooner make them better than worse. He swallowed as the old man shot a look of disgust, but Dravi persevered. "I was told you needed some help... Getting vermin from your garden?"
Abie was suppose to be meeting his twin right now. He was suppose to be helping Aqio look for one of these...new beasts. He was excited. He heard of a new type of shelled beast that was the opposite of Matori's Bushi. There was a moving rock...and a serpent of some sort. He wanted to see them all but first. He looked at the merchant he spoke to, seems an elderly male needed help with vermin. He blinked then walked to where the elder was. Seeing another there he blinked.
"Seems I'm not the only one who seeks to help you Elder. Two strong youths are better than one. Shall we assist you?" he added a small semi-bow to his words to show his respect.
The scowl on the elder's face didn't soften as a second male approached. A Water boy was hardly better than a hybrid half-breed. Maybe even worse. Alas, the Yaeli vermin was in his garden now, devouring precious, precious desert plants as they spoke. "Fine," the old man grunted, managing to make it sound extremely noncommittal. "I'll take you out back." Without anything further, he turned and hobbled around the side of the house.
Skadravi didn't give pause at seeing the other boy. In fact, help would be a relief. It wasn't as if he knew much of wildlife to begin with and a spirited Matorian would surely be much more companionable than a sour Oban. Dravi gave a wave in greeting, accentuated with a bright smile. "Heyo, friend. The name's Dravi. Nice to be of service with ya."
Despite where he hoped his travels to lead him, the hybrid man had yet to actually travel to Matori, himself. And while he didn't want to assume that all Water Earthlings had been there (particularly not those that looked to be around this boy's age, who were just as likely to have been slaves), he did find himself hoping that this lad had. And maybe could help with directions.
But for now, he turned his attention to the fenced in area around the side of the elderly man's house. It was not large. And calling it a 'garden' seemed to kind, but the old man taped his cane to the top of the fence and spat. "Ya see that thing there?" He grunted, beckoning to the tortoise-like creature ripping roots from the ground. "It'll snap atche if you ain't careful. I want it gone. Don't care if you move it or kill it, but get it done."

There was a bounce to his step that was sorta catchy in its simple joy. He smiled at the hybrid male. "Nice to meet you, name's Abie." he looked at the elders back. Sorely tempted to be a brat but waved it off for the sake of respect. He followed the elder out to the garden. Seeing spots of where the beast had been. Hmm...a grazer. In this place. Not a good thing. He looked to his new ally. "We got this Elder. Why don't you go rest?"
He didn't like being watched by some narrow minded fool while he was trying to help them.
'Abie.' It sounded an awful lot like a girl's name, and Dravi didn't make an effort to curb the grin that snuck onto his face at the thought. For curiosity's sake, he gave the Water Earthling a quick once-over. Abie didn't particularly sound or look like a girl. Definitely didn't have any notable curves. He seemed friendly enough that if the hybrid man absolutely felt compelled, he could probably get away with commenting on it. Alas, he wasn't given the chance. The old man tapped his cane to the fence and grunted out an already-dissatisfied warning, "You break anything or ruin my crops, and you'll be paying for 'em. Get rid of making the beast without making anything worse, gutter slime."
With his piece said, the man waddled away, muttering and spitting and cursing disgruntledly.
Skadravi flicked his hand through the back of his hair and gave a sheepish roll of his shoulder. "Might help if I knew anything about these things, eh?" He squinted at it from the safety of the other side of the fence before shrugging and hopping over the flimsy and clearly mismanaged barrier. The creature looked like a cousin to the bushi. Definitely smaller, maybe even poisonous. Fortunately, Dravi did know a little something about those. "Lookit those claws, though," he commented as he crouched down for a closer look. "That could really mess up a kid like you."

The water youth rolled his eyes as the elder retreated. Everyone's a critic. He looked to the creature in question before crossing his arms. "Kid huh...does that make you an old man?" he stepped over the barrier and paled a little at the claws once he got a real good look at them. Oh yikes...yeah that would do some damage. He glanced down at Laqui before the infant skittered back into its carrying pouch. Abie hummed. "So, how do we get this thing out?"
"Certainly older than you, by my guess," Dravi retorted matter-of-factly, as he kept his gaze trained on the creature before him. It certainly wasn't as large as a bushi, though he doubted picking it up and carrying it would be an easy task. From his crouched position hardly more than two feet away, it looked like it could have a pretty powerful bite in addition to its claws. It was only foraging now, digging up roots from the garden bed, but it could probably take off an Earthling's finger, if it wanted to.
It didn't exactly run from them, either, so Skadravi had to assume it had experience with people. He shuffled a little closer, up to its rear end and decidedly away from its mouth, and reached out to give it an experimental nudge with the palm of his hand.
Dravi lurched back in surprise at the pace with which the creature moved. Bushi were slow. It looked like a bushi. He expected slow, but it was not. "Gods, it's actually fast," the hybrid man yipped, bolting back to his feet as the shelled beast scurried away, off toward the far end of the garden, where it paused to inspect them with a wary eye.

considering their rolls...here's the glorious plan which backfires on them...xD
Abie let out a series of incoherent words as he bolted back a little. Oh...oh corals and starfish that was not cool! He glanced to his new friend. "You poked it! Why did you poke the darn thing?!?" he blinked then realized...they could use that. "Wait...wait...maybe...we could poke it. Out? Like get it to leave by irritating it?"
It was the start of a idea at least. Abie had no clue how else they were going to do this.
Skadravi's honey-colored eyes followed the creature as it hunkered down against the rickety wooden structure of the fence line. It glowered at the, if an animal could do such a thing. The hybrid tsked and clucked his tongue lightly. "Whaddya mean 'why?'" he grunted. "To see what it would do, of course. I didn't really think it'd care. My bushi doesn't care when I poke it. Not that he runs anywhere, either.."
He dusting clumps of gardening soil from his pants, leaving his fingers smeared in half-moistened dirt-clods, befoe crossing his arms behind his head and tipping his gaze to the sky. "I dunno about you, but I'm not about to lose any fingers to this thing. I got a lady to please, y'know." He squinted. Except no, it'd be weird if Abie knew that. All the same, now the thing was watching them, and he wasn't about to get bitten.
"But if you got a stick you're willing to risk..."

The look the Matori gave the hybrid...was the classic 'Are you kidding me?!?' look only with a slight undertone of 'YOU ARE INSANE!' Abie suppressed the whimper before he sighed. Alright...stick...stick...he looked around and saw a discarded stick. Looked like one of the elder's old walking sticks. He knew that would end up badly but hell...at least it wasn't his arm. He walked over and picked it up. Walking towards the thing watching them. He paused and leveled a even stare at it.
"Look. I don't wanna poke you any more than you wanna be poked. This is how curiosity works though. You deal with this...and leave us whole and unscathed...Great. Just do me a huge favor and leave this garden okay?" he spoke as he got closer. When he was in poking range the youth started to extend his arm. Though he didn't even get close to tapping it before the creature took off again. Abie felt the world spin as it barreled over him. Oh...oh yeah that hurt. Thankfully he had felt Laqui skitter out of his shirt and glanced over to the infant cowering under a plant. He looked to his shoulder where a shallow scratch lightly bled.
Gardens were great places to sporadically discard old walking sticks. Particularly for old geezers who were wary enough to tell people 'not to make anything worse.' Skadravi tutted and shook his head. Of course, he shouldn't expect an Oban to have respect for meager things. It wasn't as if he there wouldn't always be more where that came from. At very least, it should be amusing watching the kid wield it. The hybrid crossed his arms and settled back against the fence to observe.
Monologue with the creature aside, Dravi did have to commend Abie's dedication to the cause of actually removing the pesky beast. Irritating it into leaving seemed like a less than intelligent plan, but it was something, at any rate. And it was clear that the Water boy was nervous as he approached.
He shouldn't be cruel. It wouldn't win either of them any favors. And it might just hurt the poor kid. But opportunities for amusement were far and in between. When Abie approached the shelled animal and moved to give it a prod, Dravi pushed from the fence and let out a sharp, ringing, "Bah!" He didn't know what he expected from it, but not for the thing to charge over the kid and scurry off farther away from them. Still, as Abie hit the ground, Skadravi burst into raucous laughter, doubling over in his fit. He probably should've felt bad.
He didn't, but he should've.
As the chuckles died away, he moved to help the smaller man back to his feet. "It did nick you a bit, didn't it?" He asked, squinting at Abie's shoulder. "I'm sure you'll be alright. Though..." He cast a quick glance around. "That critter's gone and stomped all over the old man's garden. You flopping around in the dirt doesn't really help. Think he'll be mad?"

Abie let out a soft growl as the other helped him up. Narrowing his eyes at the hybrid he took small amusement from Laqui as the small snaptrotter bolted from under its hiding place. The little beast scratched at Dravi's ankle before snapping at it. Before small jaws could meet flesh Abie had a large hand wrapped around its middle and tucked the chirping little monster into his shirt again.
"That. Was Laqui. Snaptrotter infant I'm taking care of...as for this place." He looked around, noticing the beast had skittered right on out of there. He then looked back around. "I say we bail. You game?"
Without even hearing the other male Abie took off back towards the busier parts of the Market.
Was he imagining things, or did a little rodent just scurry- Nope, it was real. Skadravi watched as the wee creature of a thing (not rodent, though it did scramble across the ground like one) darted over to him. He might have been wary if it was a more formidable size, but since it was hardly the size of a domesticated perzi kitten, he didn't feel particularly threatened. It apparently had the temperament of a perzi, as well.
When its claws came out, Dravi tsked softly. It was certainly an angry little thing now that the tintural was out of range. Strange, it had been quite the coward before, and the hybrid himself was still substantially larger than the beast they'd just fought. Surely scary enough to merit a little more respect. No matter. He gave the young snaptrotter a slightly-too-rough-to-be-a-simple-deterrent nudge with the heel of his foot before Abie had a chance to reclaim it. "Looks t'me like you're teaching it to fight the wrong things. Bet they'd have him culled if he did that to an Oban. Maybe keep a better hand on your pets." He smiled, beamed, even. "Pleasant suggestion from a friendly neighbor!"
It was hardly a moment later that the younger man headed out and away. Considering the level of success that had been achieved for what should have been a simple mission (minimal), Dravi decided it was probably best that he not hang around for too long, either. Admittedly, the endeavor hadn't exactly been worth the effort, and it would unfortunately probably lead to an attempt to sneak one or two of Khalel's pearls out from under her...
Tomorrow's problem. Or tonight's, at the earliest. For now, he should concern himself with getting back to her without any more trouble.

Wow...counting skills...here's a wrap up post!
Abie would later hear from his Mentor about the elders complaint. Though the older male wasn't about to send Abie back to the old man any time soon. The youth was told to start his own garden to learn how to properly care for plants. The young matori would wonder vaugely on how the hybrid fared....
