How to Wield Nature, Naturally

Professor: Leon Vyuxiros

Syllabus:

Description:
This course teaches students how to effectively recognize, partner with, and wield the elements. Topics include the different elements, their nuances, suppression and agitation techniques, activity ("behavioral") patterns, and many others.

Expectations:
By the course's end, students are expected to not only recognize which type of element a manifestation is, from whence it came, and its risk level, but also how to encourage, discourage, and contain its energy. Students do not need prior affinity to an element to partake in this class.

Grades:
Will be comprised of one midterm and a final project. Homework assignments are optional and will count towards extra credit.

Lectures (current week bolded):
>>>> Week 0: Introduction
>>>> Week 1: Elemental Personalities
>>>> Week 2:...
~~~
A wide, circular expanse audience to a half-ring of auditorium seats going up a level or two sits outdoors with covered sections for those seeking to be sheltered from the elements. The area is strangely austere in its lack of decorations, having ample room between the front row seats and the "pit" where, presumably, the lecturer occupies.
To those keen of eye, an all-but-invisible lattice shimmers in between the stage and the seats, arcing in an outward radius of about twenty feet.
        I've been waiting for a lifetime,
            In the search for something real--
            To turn up and save me,
                From the empty and the loneliness inside...
        August 29th, 1st Day of Class 🔥
        >>>> A man who looked very much like the Dragon's Den professor stood at the lectern beyond the sparsely populated front row, every so often shuffling through the papers there, occasionally scanning the half ring of seats, and infrequently adjusting his cuffs, in between pacing a few lengths across the stage and back. Those early birds already seated and watching may come to notice a rather repetitive quality in his pre-class motions. Those observant enough, however, may further notice how his hair seems to gleam in the light--not an effusive gold, but rather in slick yellow streaks; how the lines framing his figure sometimes, almost imperceptibly, blur; and how the shaded prints his footsteps leave in the dirt may not simply be indentations.
        As the clock ticked down the minutes to class, and more and more bodies trickled in, the lecturer strayed less and less from the podium. His other tics, however, were still present with the addition of periodically glancing at the front-row blond whose attention he apparently kept without even trying.
        >>>> A black mobile chalkboard stood a little behind and to the side of him. Large, white letters are scrawled across it: "Welcome to Navigating the Elements -- please take a seat"
        When I dream at night,
            I can see where I belong--
        So I'll close my eyes, I'll follow my feet,
        In hopes that somehow they'll take me home...
...Someday....
User Image OOC> It's a little on the short side, but.... Subsequent posts will (hopefully) be more interesting. ^_^;
User Image tl;dr> The professor for Navigating the Elements exhibits some pretty repetitive quirks as he waits for students to file in and for class to start.
Faith Mirandez
With; Leon, Other students ☠ Wearing; CasualFeeling; Anxious ☠ Location; Class; Navigating the Elements ✧
Faith had taken her time arriving, but not too much. The last time she had showed up early to class she had been put to work and well, she didn't want that this time. She walked towards the classroom and her eyes scanned around her, passing by a classroom for swordsmanship before she came across the room she was looking for. Navigating the Elements, the first class she had that day. She rolled her neck, the headphones she had in moving with her before she opened the door and her eyes landed on the professor sitting down in the front. She saw a couple of students already here, but thought nothing of it. The classroom was far from full, although with the size she thought the chance of the whole classroom being occupied as a little strange. She smiled to herself and shut the door behind her as she shift her backpack slightly, stepping to find a good seat. She wasn't in the front row, but one back from it. She sat down and set her bag against her leg before leaning over and pulling out a notebook and a pencil, for notes. She rested them to her right, setting her phone to her left as she pulled one earphone out, her red eyes settling onto the teacher. She tilted her head slightly, resting it against the open palm of her hand and wondered what the class would be like. Sure, she was curious about a lot of things, but the elements were something that she had been more curious about then other things. Being a pure blood vampire she might have some abilities, she didn't know what her mother could do in entirety, so she wanted to know.
She opened her notebook which already had the course name and instructors name scrawled across the top, taking her pencil and scratching out a doodle, waiting for class to start.
OOC; Sorry if it's not my best, I wanted to get the first posts up before I'm away for the weekend.
It had been a long night for Ashhaven Academy's resident Reaper. He spent half the night tracking down that elusive demon door and placing a holding spell on it. Hail was hopeful that the spell will keep the door from moving for a while. After he finished with that, he returned to his room to find it a mess once again and had to spend the next few hours cleaning. Seems that the sign he place on his door did not deater curious students from coming inside his room. If people were so convinced a ghost lived in there, why go in? It was something Hail though about more often than not.
After getting only an hour or so of sleep, Hail got dressed and ready for the day. Once finished, he grabbed his messenger bag with his school supplies and summoned his scythe. Hail's scythe appeared in his hand and with a quick slash, he opened a portal that would take him to his class. As soon as he floated through the portal, he appeared on the other side.
~~~~~~~
The first thing Hail saw was a decent sized outdoor auditorium, but his eyes were assaulted by the sun's bright light, preventing him from looking around further. He squinted his eyes and instantly pulled his hood over his head. "Ugh. So bright.", he complained to himself. After a moment, he risked being blinded by the harsh light and looked around again. He could only see one fellow student and a man who he assumed was the teacher.
He started to wonder if anyone would be able to see him in the class, but he knew it was not likely. "H-hello!", he shouted. He looked at the two to see if there was any reaction. Eventually, Hail took a seat on the second level row and pulled out a notebook from his bag, ready to take any notes if necessarily.

        I've been waiting for a lifetime,
            In the search for something real--
            To turn up and save me,
                From the empty and the loneliness inside...

        August 29th, 1st Day of Class 🔥

        >>>>Nervousness--that's what one might've chalked the lecturer's fidgeting up to; however, those attentive may have noticed that the motions seemed a bit too...precise--too routine--almost like copies of video clips strung together in semi-random order. Whatever it was, it certainly seemed eccentric.

        A few moments after one of the students--likely a vampire, if her pale countenance was any indication--took a seat, the blond cowlick in the row in front of her nodded towards the podium, commenting just loud enough for her to hear without needing to turn around, "A bit maddening to watch, huh?" The voice was undoubtedly male, nonchalant, and apparently indifferent as to whether the presenter heard him.

        Before much else could pass, a greeting echoed hollowly through the filling auditorium. Most seemed to ignore it, but the lector's attention snapped toward the sound, glassy eyes blinking. "Yes, hello. W-well, have a s-seat." The stutter was almost indiscernible at first, but got worse as the sentences lengthened. "Class, we-elcome. To n-navigating the e-e-elements." Reluctantly drawing himself up, fingers leaving damp marks on the papers in his hands, the man continued, "Here, you will learn about the e-elements-s and how to w-wield them. Their p-power is imm-mense, but e-equally d-d-dangerous if you d-don't know how-w to handle th-them. L-let me demo-on-strate w-with some gr-green." As he looked to the side, the ground began to faintly tremble as growing green tendrils wormed their way up from the dirt, weaving a tangle of thick, intertwining limbs. Each twisting bough moved very much independently, not so unlike a nest of verdant snakes.
        >>>>T-this i-i--" A barrage of vines lashed out at the figure, striking his side with a sickening splat, sending his wet remains splaying across the blackboard. For a few seconds, the lecture hall seemed dead silent, save for the steady drip-drip-drip of the now vacant podium and the quiet whisper of writhing vegetation.

        Before the shock wore off enough to move others to action, however, the blond sitting front and center hopped to his feet, deftly skipping over the sprig swinging to catch his ankles. The man looked remarkably identical to the previous lecturer as he turned to face the class with an aside, "It doesn't like sudden movements, y'know." Ducking a high branch aimed at the back of his head, the man continued, unfazed, "But, ah...as my unfortunate doppelganger was going to say, this is a manifestation of the green, or earth, element. Like mother nature, this element tends to be wild and can quickly become a force to be reckoned with if left unchecked. We'll dive more into that in week four, though."

        Another sideswipe missed the speaker as he strode to the lectern, a watery reflection of him appearing on the splashed blackboard. "Welcome! I'm Leon Vyuxiros, your professor for this course." Dipping his head with a small flourish in something of a bow, Leon gave his students a rather bright smile. "I assume you, if you cut me, I will bleed, unlike the figure who first greeted you. He was a figment of blue, the water element, known for its trickery and illusions."
        >>>>Leon further elaborated, suppressing a grimace as his podium grip was met with something cold and wet, "As you'll discover throughout the course, one's affinity with an element affects how well one can wield it. Blue and I don't quite get along, which is probably why my 'twin' was so lackluster and imperfect."

        Shooting the encroaching mass of tendrils a discouraging look almost too quick to be seen, the professor proceeded to address the class once more, "So, that makes two elements we've seen so far. What other elements can you think of? Feel free to shout 'em out." His gaze went out to the sea of faces, expecting either too many voices at once to make anything out, or none at all. College students were a bit easier to gauge; high schoolers, not so much.

        When I dream at night,
            I can see where I belong--

        So I'll close my eyes, I'll follow my feet,
        In hopes that somehow they'll take me home...

...Someday....

User Image OOC> Apologies for the wait! It's a little on the long side, to make up for the previous post? Hope it was entertaining, at least. Also, Kiyoko, that's not a bad post. ^_^ Thanks for being an early bird! Exhale, I couldn't quite figure out if the water elemental should/shouldn't be able to see Hail, since it's kinda a spirit(?), so.... (I'm still pondering whether Leon's able to, too, since a dragon is an animal...but he's in human form. *ponder*)

User Image tl;dr> As students continue filing in, a blond male in the row in front of Faith's casually comments on the lecturer's behavior to her without "bothering" to turn around. Before much else could be exchanged, class starts, the stuttering teacher seemingly spurred on by Hail's greeting. As part of an introductory demo, the instructor summons a plant entity (of the green/earth element) that proceeds to murder him. However, before panic could break out, the front-row blond reveals himself to be the real professor (Leon), and that the other figure was another demonstration (of the blue/water element). Some enlightening tidbits on the two elements, and element wielding in general, are given before Leon opens the floor up to some class participation, asking what other elements they think there are.

The red eyed girl seemed to be startled when she heard another voice, but a quick glance back and she saw no one. She furrowed her brow before turning back to the blonde in the front row. He was still quiet, but then made a remark about the lecturer. She only shook her head, smiling a little. " Only a little." she then replied, settling back into her seat, doing her absolute best to ignore the nagging feeling that she was missing someone in the room. She'd find out later, she supposed. She then leaned her head on her hand, eyes watching the every move of the teacher. There was something... off about him. When he stuttered, she took note of it and started to write the basics down when the vines cut right through his body. Her hand paused and her eyes widened as she looked up at the wet remains, but before she was able to open her mouth to say something, the blonde that had made a remark to her earlier jumped up and took over the lecture. She tilted her head to the side as he spoke, not only taking in what he was saying, but trying to understand the situation as well. She narrowed her eyes slightly, but when he mentioned that he and "Blue" didn't get along, it all seemed to click. She smiled slightly in return to her teacher, clearing her throat for a second before deciding to speak up. " Um, Red, for Fire?" she said, raising her hand in the process, a hesitant expression on her face.

She hoped she wasn't off, or god forbid, totally wrong. That wouldn't be a goo way to start her class.
