The bell rang to signal the end of class, but Hexen stayed at her seat, her pen still moving in rapid fire lines across her page. She had spent the entire period writing her latest draft of her next book and had all but forgotten to jot down notes for the class. Luckily for Hexen she was a wonderful multi-tasker and could listen while writing. Though, her teachers never truly approved. They thought she was a slacker, wasting her talents on something that would never bring her any profit. But it wasn't about the profit. It was about telling the story.
The room had nearly emptied, the professor walking up to her to try and get her attention. He scolded her for being so aloof, his words going one ear and out the other before the teacher gave up, shrugged their shoulders in defeat and walked off. They would just come back after getting some coffee from the cafeteria to lock up, and hopefully she would be gone by then.
Hexen tucked some of her hair behind her long, pointed ear and gripped both sides of her notebook (conveniently hidden behind her textbook) and quickly scanned over the lines she had written.
There was some desperate need for editing, and she could see all the errors in her spelling. But nothing that a little more effort and time couldn't remedy!
The androgynous Nightmare nodded to herself, pleased with her work thus far and closed her book. She had gotten a lot done! She could celebrate perhaps with a cup of tea tonight before resuming her work.

Mere minutes before the teacher had made an attempt at Hexen, they had tried (mostly) fruitlessly to wake a sleeping Bayde, about five desks down and three across from the other Nightmare. They were used to this from him; he rarely tried harder than… this… in their class, or rather, any class – he was a bit notorious for his lack of effort in school amongst the staff. It was amazing he never got kicked out, to be honest.
Finally awake from the sound of the door closing, though very dazed, Bayde sat with his back flat against the back of the chair, his arms resting fully on the desk before him. He looked grouchy, though it was honestly just his resting, neutral face.
Hexen closing her book had managed to catch his sleepy attention and he glanced over. Staring at the back of her head for just a moment, it was like the purple, messy haired Nightmare were trying to figure out who, or what, they were. With a sniff and a flick of his tail, Bayde pushed himself from his spot and walked toward his newfound companion, leaning over her desk to take a peak despite her having already closed her notebook.
”What’s that?” Bayde asked, his voice clearly tired and his eyes heavy. He leaned away from the desk entirely. He didn’t sit, towering over Hexen’s desk, with his claws hanging lazily out of his pockets.

Hexen looked up with a quizzical look on her face, long teal lashes fluttering as she stared up at the dark Imp before her, her shaped pupils expanding at the sight of him. He looked a lot like one of the characters she had just been writing about! The Prince that she was so fond of. Maybe she was seeing one of her characters in real life again?
The Demon rubbed at her eyes. If she was hallucinating again, as proud as she was of her work, maybe she had pushed herself a bit too far again with the last week with only a few hours of sleep that she could remember. Maybe instead of a cup of tea tonight, she needed a nap?
"What was it .. ? Last Sunday, maybe? That's quite some time without sleep." Hexen spoke her thoughts aloud, not addressing the boys question as she tucked one of her loose curls behind a pointed ear. "Well, my prince!" The demon got to her feet, offering a ghost of a smile. "Shall we head out?"
Hexen had no idea the embarrassment she might suffer from her mixing of realities. If only she knew that the Imp before her was not the prince from her story, but her actual class mate. She might have kept her mouth shut and answered the question he had asked more appropriately instead of ignoring it altogether. All the same she neatly packed away her books and rough notes inside her purple striped bag before slipping it over her arms with a contented expression on her face.

For the moment, all Bayde could do was stare dumbly, snapping out of his sleepy stupor. He looked Hexen over, a bit incredulous; for one, she completely ignored his question and, in fact, gave him information that was completely irrelevant. Two, her apparent eagerness to leave together was sudden and jarring. And third, she called him a prince – her prince – and even the Imp himself knew that he was far, far from princely. Blinking, he stared for a moment more.
And then a devious grin grew on his face, exposing his many pointed teeth.
Crossing his arms at his chest, Bayde’s large, fluffy tail flicked, dragging lazily along the floor. ”Okay, princess,” he said, giving out a low and soundless chuckle before extending a clawed hand out for her to take, offering to help her come to a stand.
This was going to be good.Ember-babe it's fine man, sorry this reply is short

Princess? She blinked. She sure as heck wasn't a princess. Unless her hallucination was having a hallucination? Which seemed a little odd, but Hexen was used to things being a bit peculiar. She perhaps should have considered this whole scenario a little more closely, too eager to accept the 'out of place' as the norm. And so, she took his hand, that subtle, barely there smile tugging at the corner of her lip. "I see how it is." she said a little flatly, despite the amused smile in place, rising to her feet finally. "Aren't you late for the ball? Or was it the festival you had scheduled tonight? I'm never quite sure what princely duties you actually uphold or care to be a part of. You never were much invested in your titles."

With the widest of grins, Bayde helped Hexen to her feet and kept her arm tucked carefully into his elbow. They were only a few paces from the door leading into the hallway.
”Oh, I would much rather spend time with you,” he said, his smile easily showing his pointed teeth. ”Balls are no fun without someone to accompany me with.” Now he was pulling things out of his a** – he wanted to milk this for as long as he could.
Leading them out into the hall, Bayde couldn’t have grinned harder; the two of them garnered so many stares from the other students and the Imp ate it up. He would raise a brow with his ever present smile as they went down the hall. ”Where’s your next class, princess?”

"I think math is next," Hexen offered the subtlest of smiles. It had been a long time since Hexen had really been close to anyone, and even if this was just her imagination getting carried away again, it still felt real, and it still felt nice. Hexen had never had much in the way of friends. The closest she ever got to friends were the characters she read about and the characters she herself created. This prince had been one of them -- one she had grown up writing about and felt as if he knew her better than anyone. Of course, he had changed and evolved and been revamped a few times ... but his core never changed. He always remained good. Her little Prince of Darkness. As the two walked down the halls, Hexen started to notice the stares. They couldn't see her irises from so far away, could they? That seemed highly unlikely ... what could they possibly be looking at? Hexen looked up at the Prince and blinked. She stared long and hard as they walked together, though her face seemed vacant. As they continued to walk and the whispers and the stares got more intense, it finally clicked in, and Hexen found herself blushing brightly and fiercely as she cast her glance away. "You're ... not the prince, are you ... " she asked quietly, rhetorically. "You're real ... "

Bayde kept his smug grin with each step, sometimes glancing down at Hexen with pride. He held no embarrassment, even as she began to realize what was happening. Still, he smiled his brightest on their merry way.
"No, I'm not," he said boldly, still keeping her arm linked in his. "Was wondering when you'd catch on. I'd like to think I'm real, anyway. Dunno what I'd be, otherwise." Lifting his other clawed hand, he gently pat Hexen's arm. His grin had lessened some, not out of fondness or displeasure, neither of them were the right word; but now that she was figuring out what was happening, it was both more and less fun than before.
He wondered how long he could ham this up.
"Name's Bayde. I can be your prince if you'd like."

Oooh, no. She had done it again. Hexen had gotten so caught up in all her flights of fantasy she had completely lost touch with reality. Again. Why did this always keep happening to her. One minute she was trying her best to just embrace the little bit of crazy she had, but then the next Hexen was finding out that she was just behaving like a child instead. It left her feeling a touch embarrassed, but the demon knew there was literally nothing she could do about it at this point. "I'm sorry." she apologized abruptly, as if trained to do so. "You just look a lot like a character I write about in my stories. I just figured it was my imagination being overactive again, as it tends to do that." There. An explanation for the poor boy. But, had he been victimized? He looked rather pleased with himself, actually. Maybe there wasn't any cause to worry. "Hmmn? Bayde. Nice. I'm Hexen. Some people call me Hex. And by some people I mean myself. So maybe I should have just said my name was Hex ... " the demoness shook her head. "Anywho, I don't think you'd like being a prince, but if you really want to, feel free to. I can't exactly stop you, yunno. Free-will and all that. It serve a purpose. Do you want to be a prince?"

Once Hexen apologized, Bayde's smile faltered just a little, but not enough to go away entirely. A character, huh? Interesting. "What a coincidence. Maybe you dreamed of me," Bayde laughed. He never particularly found himself handsome enough to be a prince, or even remotely thought of such a title either. Bayde didn't necessarily find himself ugly, but he was never particularly vain about his appearance.
He raised a brow as she introduced herself, and the grin came back just as quick. Lifting his chin, the Imp chuckled.
"Hex, huh? Interesting name," Bayde commented. With her arm still in his (to which he was very surprised was still connected), he pulled the demoness a little closer. "I don't have any special nickname, so just call me by my name I guess."
Louder than expected, Bayde let out quite a laugh as he pat Hexen's arm, still looped around his own. "I wonder if you could make me like the title," the Imp mused. "If inspired I might."

Hexen's eyes drooped to star down at their locked arms as the Imp pulled her in closer. She had never been this close to a real person before. It didn't exactly feel bad, but it did feel a bit peculiar. But Bayde seemed nice enough. He didn't seemed fussed or upset or even bothered by her ... delusions. Perhaps he was someone she could actually trust, and someone who wouldn't judge her. Maybe he would even support her work if they became ... No. Friendship was likely too much to hope for. Hexen knew she was weird. She had grown up at the academy completely friendless, and now that she was in her final years there ... what were the chances of actually making a friend, at long last? Although, she had always wondered what it'd be like. Bayde's laughter made the demoness jump and crush herself a touch closer to his chest, though his patting hand soothed her as Hexen relaxed and gave a heavy sigh, touching a hand to her heart. His laughter was so boisterous! It had snapped her entirely out of her anxious haze. Maybe that wasn't such a bad thing. Hexen caught herself giggling a little at herself, something she never knew herself capable of. "Do you mind ... if it's not too bold or too personal of me, if I call you Bay?" she asked quietly, looking up at him. "And ... maybe I did! Though, if I have been dreaming of you, I've been dreaming about you for an awfully long time. The prince has been with me well in to my younger years. But, at any rate, perhaps it's all for the best that you're not he prince. A little nightmare interaction really couldn't hurt me ... I hope. The nine know I'm not exactly good at it. I guess ... I should consider it a social exercise."The demoness passed. "That I pray I don't completely ******** up."

To Hexen's surprise, the Imp wasn't exactly the most popular nightmare. Or maybe it wasn't much of a surprise -- he wasn't particularly displeasing to look at but his personality wasn't really welcoming when he got into his rages. Part of this was a tease, more to get her goat than form an actual friendship, but perhaps he would let the cards fall as they may.
A friend couldn't be bad to have, even when you're mostly a loner.
"You can call me whatever you want, Hex," he said, glancing down at her now that she was up against him -- again, it wasn't unwelcomed but hey, cute girl and all. Bayde grinned as he tightened his hold, almost making them look like they were an actual couple.
Again, he ate up any strange looks they got.
Bayde put on his best, overreacting thinking face, holding his chin with his free claws, hamming it up. "Perhaps it was meant to be?" he mused, a slight lilt of sarcasm in his voice. His expression softened, however, as Hexen switched topics into familiar territory.
With his expression sobering, he nodded. "I'm sure you'll do fine. I'm in no place to judge," he chuckled, amusement touching his features.

"Why do you say that?" Hexen tilted her head gently, smiling ever so subtly. "You seem like a very well-rounded young man. Well adjusted. You seem like you'd be a pretty good judge. After all ... you didn't embarrass me. Any lesser person would have just laughed or used this whole situation to ruin me. And yet ... " Hexen paused, realizing just how close they really were and covered her mouth to gently cough in to her hand before stepping away. "Uhm ... " she hesitated, then glanced down the hall, nearly bumping in to someone she couldn't see behind her. "Sorry ... what ... class did you say ... you had next? My memory is actually quite awful."

Bayde let out another roar of a laugh. "Well-rounded, huh?" he retorted, looking back to the hallway rather than at Hexen. His brows raised in thought as the demon continued, then nodded his head in agreement. "I suppose that's true."
Even though he had started out with the intent to embarrass, her reaction had been far different than Bayde originally thought it would be. He didn't mean to drop the act, but with how real the conversation became, the less he felt like messing with the demon. He finally shrugged, though he chuckled as Hexen pulled away -- in response, he retracted his arm entirely to help her with the movement.
"I didn't say," he said, giving another shrug of his shoulders. "I've got math, too, but I don't think we have the same instructor." Crossing his arms at his chest, Bayde passed another glance to the demon. "Or maybe we do; I don't know. I've never noticed."
What were the chances of two classes together in a row?

"Well," the demon started, rubbing at her arm a touch nervously. "I suppose we could go and find out, if yo'd like? I mean, there is only one way to find out and that's to just do it, yes? We do we have to lose. Besides, yunno. Our attendance record. Because at this rate I think we're going to be really late ... what do you say we head off, and if we end up having math together we just call it fate and maybe ... hang out later. Outside of school. Maybe. I dunno if that's your thing. I'm not even really sure if it's my thing. Or whatever. The girl blinked. "Unless that's like. Way too forward. Honestly I don't know how these things work. Just tell me if I'm being weird or whatever, okay?" Hexen heaved a sigh. She was so bad at this, but part of her hoped he didn't mind.
