She hadn't really moved much since the portal had closed in front of her. It was a miracle Maebe had even bothered to get the man she'd found inside of a box to safety. She considered stealing all of his fine clothes, because they looked too good for him; but instead, she just dragged him all the way to the car pile, dumped him in a car, and closed the door - on his face.
Then she sat on top of the car, and sunbathed - which meant nothing, being that the sun wasn't really shining in that moment. So really, Maebe just laid on a car, and waited for rescue, like the damsel she was always meant to be, and never could quite manage.
Her lazy ineffectual attempts to keep from garnering attention did the opposite. A large, nasty looking creature came barrelling towards her, and she barely managed to open her eyes enough to see it. When she did, the trident formed in her hands, but she didn't move much more than that - and a long, exhausted groan left her lips.
She looked like she was considering just lying there and letting herself get attacked.

A small, gray blur zipped around the cars and left a grazing cut on the Undying. One eye blinking madly, Canon skidded to a halt. She squinted back at the Undying, trying to locate where she'd hit it, but it was like trying to locate a spot on the sun.
Since she couldn't look at the monster, she looked at her surroundings, and -
"Oh! A human!" she exclaimed, just noticing the female languishing on the car roof. Eye stalk bent quizzically, Canon studied the human's posture. "Are you sick?"
In the end, Maebe did not just lay there and take a hit like it seemed. The trident in her hand moved up, and the giant creature that was barrelling towards her simply managed to impale itself on her trident as it fell. She thoroughly enjoyed being able to fight without actually moving very much.
Her foot kicked the engorged undead off of the prongs, and she rolled to the side, off of the car and onto her feet. It was at that point that she heard the voice of someone, asking her if she was sick. It took far too many seconds after that to realize where the voice was coming from.
"Yeah, I am pretty sick, thank yo-what in the.. hell.." Her trident was perked in front of her body defensively when she caught sight of Canon, and she flickered her gaze between the tiny creature, and the undead.
Bigger was more dangerous, right? She would take things one at a time.
Canon watched as the human impaled the not-human, and found she had a hard time determining if the human had struck intentionally. What a fascinating fighting technique! If it was one.
Canon made a mental note to try it sometime and see if it worked as well for her. Right now, though, she was too full of energy to just wait for her opponent to come to her!
Squinting, she dashed in and jabbed her stinger at the not-human's mismatched ankles with a war whistle. Her attack was more accurate this time, but still didn't hold a candle to the human's earlier maybe-attack.
The not-human smacked Canon away, and the little Skark bounced away over a car.
"I'm okay!" she called a few seconds later. You know, in case the human was wondering.
For a few seconds, she was able to just watch the tiny creature soar off, and disappear until her little voice indicated she had not died or exploded on impact. Maebe huffed, and flipped around to turn her focus completely on the undead creature. Her trident tore into the monstrous belly of the beast, pushed upward with a warlike cry as she surged forward, staggering forward. She wasn't a big girl, and she couldn't feel the strength her fear shield normally lent her in times like this, but somehow, she managed.
It was probably the killer shoes she'd worn that day.
When the monster fell, she pulled the trident out with a nasty squish and it disappeared in her hands. It only took her a moment to turn around and start looking on the ground for any tiny squiggly things coming for her.

The tiny, squiggly thing was standing on the car she'd sailed over previously, busy being very much impressed by the human's battle prowess.
"So that other attack wasn't just luck!" Canon exclaimed, hopping down and scampering back toward the spot where the not-human had been. After a few seconds investigation, she found a perfectly good water bottle beneath a car nearby. She held it up triumphantly with her antennae, and then stored it in a breathing hole. "These guys always seem to drop something when they die."
It was a little easier to let her guard down when the small thing kept speaking to her like it was some kind of friendly, talking minipet. Maebe did not have a minipet of her own, because she would forget about it and it would die while she napped; but she did like to hug other people's minipets, and that made this encounter a little easier to swallow.
Only a little.
Watching the creature put a water bottle inside of her was a little disorienting, but she tiptoed over to try and search for something in the mess of undead on the ground, only to pick up a stained playing card. She held it carefully between two fingers, and pocketed it with little interest.
"Do you live here in this crater of a town?" She asked the tiny creature thing, as her eyes surveyed the crumbling buildings around them.
Canon looked up at the human, then swiveled her eye stalk to look at their surroundings.
"No, I don't!" she replied, hopping onto the hood of a different car so she'd be a little taller. "I came here through a portal to rescue a human, but it's been a bit difficult. I managed the hugging part, since I had hands at that point, but then that giant not-horse thing attacked, and the fog took most of my FEAR, so I had to figure out how to move my human without hands, and I did thanks to this amazing red machine bike, but the portal closed before I could get the human back through it, so here I am! How about you? I've seen another human with a coat like that, but she didn't have the same kind of weapon. She was strong like you, though!"
Through her long-winded explanation, Canon noticed something moving off in the field of cars. She watched it approach, until it finally moved into plain view, after which she couldn't look at it directly.
"Oh, look! Another one!"

Canon scrabbled over the tops of cars, creating a lot of noise as she kept to the high ground. When she was right beside the not-human, she jumped on top of it, and stabbed it with her stinger. But it was like standing on a spot-light. Her proximity to the creature disoriented her, and for a second the little Skark couldn't move. Luckily, the creature's attack threw her off, just far enough away to let her regain her sense of self.
Shaking off the feeling like a dog shaking off water, Canon wobbled to her feet, searching for equilibrium so she could attack again.
The minipet was here to rescue a human? That was.. well it was..
It was adorable, is what it was.
Maebe's hackles went up when the creature that appeared tried to hurt the poor thing, and Thaw reformed in her hand with a fiery flare of anger. She pursed red lips at the bent over creature, and leapt on top of it, digging her trident into it's ribcage over and over. It was a slow, but steady process, and eventually there was nothing left to dig into but mushy, mushy mess.
"And STAY DOWN!" Maebe whined out, hopping off of the creature and inspecting her shoes with extreme unhappiness. She'd gotten them dirty, damnit.

Wow. Canon looked on curiously. It had stopped being painful to look at the not-human awhile ago, but the human apparently wanted to be extra thorough with this one!
When the human finally moved away, Canon noted her distressed look at her footwear. She pulled one of the water bottles free, and offered it to the human.
"Would you like to use a little water to wash it off?" she asked. She always used to jump into the nearest patch of water to wash off after eating, and since there wasn't any large pools of water available, she could understand the human's discomfort. "Just a little, though. I need to take most back to my human."
She let the human do that while she checked the mess that was left. Most of it was mush, but Canon managed to find two solid objects. Some sort of vegetable? She wiped away the mush, and tucked them away within two more breathing holes.
Being that Maebe had not just spent a handful of days in a wasteland, using a little water to wash her shoes made perfect sense to her. "Actually, that'd be great. Thanks, uh.. you." She opened the cap, and poured just enough to clean off the greater chunks until her shoes could be seen again. Then she closed it back up, and handed it to the small creature - who looked like she was really going to have to find some actual pockets, soon.
"So what made you come out to save humans? I'm not sure I've ever heard of any of you guys over there actively saving them, like, ever. I thought you just liked hugs and treats and staying on your side of the fence."
She was still thinking of minipets.

Canon accepted the water bottle, and spent a few seconds rearranging her items so the load was a little better balanced. She still looked a bit like an intact water mine when she was done, though. She gave some thought to the question before answering.
"Well, I don't know about a fence, but we need humans to live, so of course we'd save them!" she replied, looking up at the human, and then at their surroundings. "Besides, there was no way I'd miss a chance to come to the human world! So much to explore, so much science to do! Though I guess this isn't how it normally looks... Oh!"
Canon turned back toward the human, and made a quick jab at her with her tail, missing intentionally.
Maebe let out an embarrassing sound when the tail jabbed at her, jolting with surprise until she figured she wasn't actually being attacked, and could relax again.
"Okay. Canon Indy. I'm Maebe Grace. It's.. nice? To meet you." Was it, though? Was it really?
"The human world does not normally look like this, no." Maebe muttered, worry edged into her voice. "This is, uh, yeah... kind of a wreck. Nice of you to come help out, I guess. It really looks like they need it."
Maebe couldn't figure out how she was supposed to handle having a conversation with a minipet. In the end, she warily tried to pat Canon's head.. or what she thought was her head.
