She didn't look anything like her, of course. Quite the opposite. But she'd heard whispers of her name, floating across the casino, whispers of a name she hadn't heard in a decade and change.
"Cerise?" she asked, appearing at her side, green eyes manic. There was, perhaps, a hint of an L between the C and the E.

She's dressed like poison ivy, but fully covere, and usually has a bit of a faraway look in her eyes.
Depending on the mood you catch her in, she's either indulgent and fond, or kind of flighty and a bit of a mad jackal.
Kind of the luck of the draw.

75 coins--it wasn't enough, and Cerise didn't know where to go next. She didn't know how to play half of the casino games, and the slot machines had stopped working for her after a handful of pulls. She was somewhere between determined and frantic, and the sudden proximity of another person had her jumping in surprise. "Uh, yes?" The old woman next to her wasn't anyone she had ever met before--and, dressed as she was, she would probably remember. "Can I help you?" And wasn't that a laugh, considering she could barely help herself.

"No," she said, and Red 7 was a long way from here, and closer to home than ever, drifting closer to twenty years ago. "You certainly couldn't, dear. Tell me, Clerise. How has school been?" She drifted closer, and pat Cerise's hand fondly, her weathered face dimpling with a smile.

"Um?" Cerise started, all but jerking her hand out of the old woman's reach. Her patience for things like small children and crazy old people was limited even at the best of times, and the past month had gotten her out of the habit of casually touching or being touched by other people. "I'm not Clerise," she said in that slow and slightly too-loud way that people used to try to make themselves better understood. "I'm Cerise, and school is pretty much out forever. Look, are you sure you don't need help? Is there someone here who...looks after you, or something?"

She pulled away, and perhaps the least surprising thing was that it was not, in fact, a surprise. Clerise had always been a wilful girl, after all.
"Of course," Red 7 said, dismissive, not at all acknowledging the words Cerise said, and despite her advanced age, there was still a crowbar at her side, a strange glint in her eyes. Unstable. "I look after myself, dear, I always have. I assume you do the same. Always took after your mother, rather than Wade. He was too good for the either of us. What were you doing, before all of this, then? Before Day Zero, hmm?"

Cerise peered around curiously, almost frantically, to see if anyone might be looking for the older woman. She had to hustle if she wanted to save her skin, and she couldn't do it if she was looking after some crazy old lady. "Who else is gonna?" She responded idly, frowning as it seemed she was stuck with her for the moment. "I was a student," she sighed, resigning herself to her temporary company. "Getting my masters in art history, not like it matters now. Which group are you with?" Not the prison, she hoped, though it would be just her luck if the woman turned out to be some psycho escaped convict. That crowbar she was carrying sure wasn't looking too comforting.

"Which period is your favoured?" Red 7 sighed dreamily, again. "Always did prefer the Romans to the Greeks. They get up to more brutal things, you know?"
At the question, Red 7 spun a little, and gestured to her costume with a bark of wild, hyena laughter that carried above the din. "Why, the mall rats of course, my dear. Who else runs entirely on halloween costumes?"

"The Renaissance," Cerise answered without thinking. "Ancient Roman art is too derivative of the Greek and Etruscan and Egyptian art that influenced it and--" she stopped, blinking in bemusement at the old lady, who had immediately become a little more interesting. Art was the one surefire way to get Cerise's attention in a positive way.
She couldn't help but grin a little at the woman who was, if a little crazy, at least no more so than anyone else here despite the likely senility. Cerise's opinion of her rose just slightly, from utter burden to mild amusement. "Little early for Halloween, isn't it? Hope none of your people decided to dress up as a zombie; that could get awkward."

For an old lady in a costume, she truly looked charmed.
"It's how we differentiate ourselves," she explained. "Besides. Isn't it nice to be able to change clothes every few days? I was Cruela last week. And no, no zombies, verboten, you know."
The woman sighed, and suddenly looked all of her sixty and one years. "I never thought it would end like this, that much's to be certain."

"Yeah, but then how do you tell each other apart?" Cerise asked, slowly warming up to the old woman. "Or know if an outsider hasn't sneaked in? These," she said, plucking at the hem of her baggy jersey, "might not be fun or fashionable, but they're practical."
She frowned at the sudden turn in mood despite having instigated it. "I always figured it would happen in America first. That seems like a thing they would bring about themselves."
