He stood in the corner by a Blackjack table and contemplated his life choices.
"So," said October, tapping his umbrella against the ground. "Who all thinks this is all just a big ball of suck?"

Mel had taken a spot on the floor just nearby, curled up against the wall with her elbows propped on her knees, her chin on her palms. She raised a hand at his question before leaning against his leg like he was some kind of pole she could actually lean against. Even if he got mad it probably wouldn't faze her. Not in that casino, at least.
"Huge, gigantic ball of suck," she echoed. "I keep hearing what that announcer thing said about being auctioned off for dinner. Dinner."

Wataru lurched over to the nearest familiar face he saw, still reeling from the information that'd just been relayed to him over the radio. It couldn't be true - were people - were people here going to be murdered if they weren't bought out? What the hell? Was that what'd happened to the kid?
s**t was getting too ******** real for him. "I - October - " he said, and gasped, looking around at the other people he saw. There was - Mel! That was her name - again, and someone else familiar, also from Clearview. This was...
Actually, it was no longer relieving to see familiar faces. It was devastating. What if these people didn't make it out?
"I heard..." he said bleakly. "I heard people were being murdered?"
He'd gotten to escape witnessing it for himself, but of course now that he was hearing about it his presence in the casino became much more worrying.

He might not have wanted it, but she felt the need for it once she saw his masked face. October would find himself wrapped in a loose lingering hug from Juliette. "I am so glad to see you Mr. Pickle Wickles," she breathed out as she held him. Familiarity was just so nice after what she had just witnessed. Something her mind was still processing.
"I feel like I should have listened to the people on the radio, but they are always so negative," she actually sounded a bit distressed, not her usual calm and collected voice.
At this point, she finally pulled away from him and looked at the others, "oh, so many others too." She looked at them with sympathy. "It is so good to see you also." Each one of them got a hand to their cheek.

October tried very hard not to think about what could possibly be determined as dinner - though he had sinking, suspicious feeling that he already knew, nausea rising in his throat before he hastily tamped down on it. The last thing he needed was for his faction to see him at a weak spot, in spite of his flopping around napping all the time.
Wataru's gasping question made him wince.
"No one is being murdered," said October stubbornly, and he felt the warm, gentle arms around him, Juliette's embrace making him feel very pleasant. He always did like hugs, and his hand lifted, patting the old woman's arm affectionately, even if he wasn't sure why he was still Mr. Pickle Wickles.
"No one," said October, folding his arms across his chest.

Wataru was not really all too great at comforting himself. Or being comforted by other people. Still, when the familiar older woman began patting everyone's cheeks...had she said something about people on the radio being negative? "Do you think they're just being pessimistic?" he asked. Had the radio been planted by the casino or some s**t to make him paranoid or desperate? He didn't really see what they'd gain from him playing these - these games. It wasn't like coins were worth anything.
Wait. Wait; October was talking again. He turned to face the head of security. The guy was usually pretty apathetic - right? But he also cared deeply about the current residents of Clearview. Oh s**t - were there people still back at the apartment complex? Did any of them have a radio signal that he could reach?
"That's - that's good," said Wataru uncomfortably, suddenly ashamed by his outburst. "What's - then - what's - "
"We're buying everyone out, right?" he said eventually, settling on the question that seemed most reasonable. Okay, breathe deep, dude. They've already seen you panic, so it can't possibly get worse. Just act dignified.

Yeah, she didn't like to think about it either. Just the thought of what they could possibly be serving in that restaurant she glimpsed while walking around was gag-worthy. And she hated feeling nauseated so she didn't even hazard a guess.
Mel offered a wave as Wataru came and joined them, his question not really helping the situation much. Though between the prospect of being eaten or getting murdered she'd take the latter. Even if she was made into some kind of a meal post-murder, at least she'd be dead and wouldn't know a thing about it. "Where'd you hea--" October's answer cut her off though, and when Juliette came and cupped her face she offered the woman a smile.
"Hey Jules," was the greeting, and she patted the spot next to her in case the older woman wanted to have a seat. The floor was freakishly clean for a hellhole.
"Know of any other Clearviewers in here? We should gather 'em up and maybe come up with a plan to get the hell out of here..."

"I like the sound of optimism," her smile was still a little sad but she appreciated October's words. These were the things she wanted to hear about, not what the radio people were talking about (she wondered if any of them were close, for that matter), even if they were informative and often spoke the truth.
Taking the invitation, Juliette seated herself next to Mel at the table. She reached out and took the younger girl's hand in her's and gave it a little squeeze. "I'm afraid I haven't seen anyone else, but I did just... well, I just got into this room." Her head shook, trying to clear it of what had transpired in the dark room. "But, I do like the idea of freeing our friends."
It was apart of her mental mission statement after all.

Juliette was something of a calming effect on October, which he appreciated. He liked her gentleness, even if he didn't outright say it - or anything, really, but he was determined to keep up appearances as much as humanly possible (definitely not inhumanly).
He reached out and patted Wataru lightly on the arm with the side of his umbrella. "You stay alive too," said October meaningfully, and then nodded emphatically, with slightly more emotion than he usually displayed. "Yes, we are going to get everyone out."
There was no telling whether or not this was even possible, but October was determined to it anyway. And Juliette shared his viewpoint, which only made him more determined. What was the logic again? The thing about if the leader had confidence, the others would follow suit?
He pressed his fingers tighter against his umbrella.
"We are going to get everyone out," October declared. "And I mean everyone. Anyone have any ideas?"

Optimism. Right. Because Wataru was by nature an optimistic person.
Wataru scratched at the back of his neck, nervous. He wasn't really the kind of dude to suggest stuff. But he volunteered anyway. "Everyone should enter bingo," he started. Someone had to win, right? "...and, ah. I did okay in slots." It hadn't been a huge profit before his machine had broken and he'd been ushered away, but it'd been a significant portion. Significant enough, anyway.
He heaved a sigh. "I will," he said belatedly. "But...what about you, October?" What the ******** would Clearview do without their head of security? "I think what's most important is to save ourselves, first - then we can help people who don't have the ability," he concluded. After all, some of those attendants were really observant. Even when he'd tried to shove a few coins into Renita's hands, they'd just waved him off.
"I think..." He paused, glancing over at Mel. "Earlier you mentioned selling your s**t outright, right?"
Wataru did not have the most creative vocabulary. Sometimes it was a problem.

She gave Jules's hands a bit of a squeeze too, and chose not to ask what had happened. She could only guess what the woman had witnessed before she was sent back onto the main casino floor.
Mel could be pretty optimistic when she was in the mood, or when prompted. It really depended...and right then they needed optimistic. She liked that October sounded so sure that they'd get them all out; it was buoying for her spirits, and that was just something that she needed. Especially knowing that she kind of sucked at the games...
"Or we could pick really obscure things and each do a round of 20 questions?" she offered as far as suggestions went. "Bingo's a good call, slots just feels like it'll take too much time, never mind calculating the odds for a jackpot."
When Wataru questioned her she gave a nod. "Yep, there's a place around here that exchanges inventory items for coins, depending on what you've got. At least that's what I've heard, I haven't actually been there...but if it does exist then that's also an option."

Mel's hand might not have been let go right away, it was nice to hold and very comforting. Juliette was also thankful she didn't ask what had happened, perhaps she had had to go through something similar - maybe they all did - and didn't want to think about it herself.
For now, though, they had to concentrate on the now despite how painful what had happened was. They had to work on making sure no one else they knew and cared about would be next. "Yes, slots are always a nice easy bet, poker and blackjack can be a little tricky. The house always wins, after all," even she had to meekly laugh at that little saying.
"I don't suppose there are other means, trading with others besides what you mentioned? Pooling coins together?" Could they trick other people out of their coins? No, that would be terribly dishonest.

Games were definitely important; October had already seen what the others had been doing in terms of trying to earn more coins. It gave him a feeling of pride that his and Zelda's motley little crew had been doing so well trying to help each other out, although October had never explicitly said this. He looked around at the three of them with an expression of soft appreciation flickering in his eyes, half hidden behind the glasses and the scarf.
"Don't worry about me," he said gruffly. "I'll figure it out."
His promise to Brie was gently set aside, pushed away for now. "It's like that whole airplane thing, right?" October asked Wataru. "Get the mask on yourself first and then get them on the others around you. Can't save anyone if you're not safe, right?"
Except October was a giant freaking hypocrite in this way. Mel and Juliette both had good suggestions, and he gave all three of them an encouraging nod, the pride swelling further inside of his chest. "Just be careful," he said, sweeping a few stray strands of hair out of his eyes. "Those games look like they're not all they're cracked up to be."
October pressed his lips together. "Not sure that's allowed, pooling," he told Juliet a little reluctantly, sounding gloomy at the thought. "But it's a good idea, anyway. Selling and playing games seems to be our best bet."
They were offered a sudden, rare smile, half hidden by his bandanna, but still there.
"You guys are gonna make me proud, right?"
