Freshman Quest: Healing 101
Charlie felt it would be beneficial to show the newbies some basic medical techniques, hopefully to keep you alive a little longer! Deciding it would be better to actually show them in a (somewhat) more sanitary environment than the Dorms, so this quest takes place in the Health Department (their make-shift Infirmary). There are a few lingering staff and helpers around who show you the ropes.

Quest Notes:
- You can do this quest as a group if you'd like! Just roll the steps as usual.
- There is a 300 word minimum word count for each person in this quest.

Step One: Learning the Layout
- Roll 3d6 in one post OR 1d6 in three separate posts. RP your character inspecting these areas. (if you roll multiples you can either Re-roll or say they inspect that area super closely)
  • 1: Pull out a drawer and inside you find their supply of band-aids and bandages. It seems like a lot but in reality it would not last long if things really went down.
  • 2: A locked Cabinet filled with medicines. The staff tell you that only one person in their group holds the key to it, and he is quite the cranky customer. They say just in case something happens to the holder there is a hidden spare key somewhere.
  • 3: You look down at a metal table with shiny instruments piled on top. Really to you they look like mini torture devices, best not hang around for long. In reality they are emergency items for surgical needs.
  • 4: You instead the tables that the staff have covered in white linens. There are some mysterious stains on them, red tinted.
  • 5: Neat! There is a working height and weight scale the team had moved into the department. Good to know!
  • 6: A small room with a door off to one side. Inside is a simple desk and a few chairs, clearly a private area for meetings if you'd rather keep things hush hush. There is also paperwork on top of the desk. One of them is a log explaining what had been used and who had been there and when.

Step two: Using Supplies
- Not wanting to waste their limited medical supply on trainees, instead they improvise using similar objects to practice with.
- If doing this as a group feel free to 'practice' on each other, if doing this solo you may say you are using a random NPC to test things on!
- Roll 1d6 and match your responses below.
- Please roll twice! So do two of them below. (If you roll the same number feel free to re-roll)

  • 1: Fake Bandages! Using some clean socks, pretend to be bandaging up a part of your 'patients' body that might have been wounded. Use clips to clip the socks in place.
  • 2: Using a bottle filled with water from the tap, pretend you are cleaning a wound! Remember you would never actually use the trainted water on a real wound, but this is pretend. In a real situation you would use isopropyl alcohol or something like it.
  • 3: Taking a needle and thread, sew up a hole in the provided tattered clothing. Not only does this show how to make-shift sew a wound, it also patches some clothing holes! Yay for being useful!!
  • 4: On a table is an actual knife. They ask you to take the knife and cut up some of the canned peaches nearby. Why? They state it's another practice but i think they actually just need help with food prep.... Handling the knife comes with a warning of 'If you cut yourself you sew yourself up.'
  • 5: Another station leads towards the earlier metal table with the surgical equipment, there is a note on top that says 'DO NOT TOUCH.' Oh, Ok. Easiest example ever!
  • 6: As a lesson in maintaining a healthy environment, they make you clean down the entire room.

Rewards:
- This quest is considered complete once every player inside has rolled all the times and made the minimal 300 word count each!
- For Course Credits: Take the very first number and the very last number you rolled in this thread and add them together. If its an even number, divide it by two and thats how many points you get. If its an odd number, add +1 and then divide by two.
- Example: I rolled a 2 and a 4. 2+4 = 6. 6 / 2 = i earned 3 credits for this quest.
- Example 2: 1 rolled a 1 and a 2. 1+2=3. Oops! Odd number! So add a 1 to make it an even number. 3+1=4. 4 / 2 = I earned 2 credits for this quest.
- Max credits possible to earn in this quest is 6.
- The numbers you add are your personal numbers, meaning YOU rolled them. If you have multiple people in a thread, they use their own first and last numbers they personally rolled.

Harvard had been pushed into the infirmary without so much as a by-your-leave and told to learn the layout. There were other people in the area of course, but he largely ignored them He opened a drawer. "Fascinating. Bandages." He closed it with a snap, and turned. This was so beneath him. He spotted a familiar face in the mix of people and wandered near, although he did not start a conversation. The boy was a push-over, but Harvard found it amusing how easy he was to get out of the room.

Liam didn't notice Harvard's presence at first, He was too busy letting his age show as he tried out the scale against the far wall. He shouldn't have, really, for more than one reason. Not only was it probably frowned upon(and indeed one of the assistants overseeing them was giving him a bit of a dirty look), but he really couldn't have gone without knowing just how much weight he'd lost since the beginning of all this. Since he hadn't been a very large guy to begin with, that lack of twenty pounds probably didn't go entirely unnoticed.

Granted, it wasn't like anyone really saw him without his clothing on. All anyone else would have noticed was a slight thinning of the face, and more pronounced cheek bones.

Havard flicked the measurement scale up to 5'8", reaching around Liam. He was bored, and being bored was a bad thing. "Huh, I thought you were shorter." He slid it back down, the clicking sound slowing as it reached the bottom.

"Well, shorter than me, and I suppose that counts for something, after all." They weren't required to wear their jerseys here, so he'd opted for a blue button-down, his usual wear.He raised his eyebrows at Liam, hoping for something interesting.

He very nearly fell off the scale when an arm reached around him to pull up the height bar. "Ah, no." There was something intimidating about the older man that went a little beyond mere age. Something he couldn't quite put his finger on, but was definitely there.

Unlike Harvard, Liam had his jersey on. Corey had wanted them to wear them, so that's what he was doing. Anything to help out.

He stepped, carefully, down from the scale and hobbled backward until his hips bumped into a table. When he looked down at it, there was a row of shiny, silver instruments that reminded him of the time he had to go the hospital to get his legs stitched up, and that was not a fun memory. With a frown, he pointedly stepped away from it.

He raised an eyebrow. Then he raised both eyebrows. And sighed. The reaction was only a little interesting, but he had nothing better to do. Liam was almost like a skittish deer in this moment. He moved away. Although he held no qualms with people in his space (other than the normal HOW DARE YOU), Liam might. Or something. Harvard was trying to decide if he cared.

"You're extra skittish today. Sorry for needing the room last night, by the way." Harvard rubbed his fingers along a red stain and grimaced. Were they rusty enough to be blood?

"Yes, well. We did have a grenade blow up next to us, and I took a piece of metal through the leg. That does have a tendency to make a persons a little jumpy." He sounded sullen, but he kept his features more or less even as he looked up at his roommate. There was the faint hint of dark bruises under his eyes, either from not getting enough sleep, or from having been smacked in the face with a falling shelf early that day when the bleach fumes had threatened to set him on his a**. "Yeah," was all he answered with. Unwilling to make a big deal about it here, no matter how inconvenient.

His eyes fell to the linen on the table as Harvard ran it between his fingers, frown growing more prominent by the site of it. Had Austin used up the last of the bleach? Or was the linen not super important here?

"Ah, was there a grenade?" Harvard knew very well there was; in the aftermath he'd ended up with a fractured arm. He was irritable form the pain of it, and maybe that was why he was more inclined to be crueler. Usually he toned down the bullying, saved the cruelty for more private spaces. He sighed and looked at his station.

He held out some fake bandages (also as known as socks). "Want to be my patient, Liam?"

Blue eyes narrowed slightly, and Liam gave a small shake of his head before a hand came up to push his hair back out of his face. He'd forgotten the headband he'd been wearing, and it was overgrown enough to be a real bother.

Of course The question pulled him back around, and Liam eyed the sock for a moment before flicking his gaze up to Harvard, debating. What was the worst that could happen here? "I guess so." He sounded a touch suspicious, but why not? It wasn't as if his relationship with the other man was all that healthy.

Frowning thoughtfully he moved towards the table, drawing him up so he was sitting on the edge. Low on his left thigh, just peeking out the bottom of his shorts, was the crisp white of the bandages that covered the leg wound he'd gotten earlier.

Briskly, Harvard pinned the socks around Liam's leg. He put them higher around Liam's calf, but his fingers were utterly businesslike, for the most part. It was incredibly awkward to do onehandedly but Harvard managed by holding the sock gracelessly in place with his chin.

Until the last sock was applied. Harvard slipped the clip around the back of Liam's knee and deliberately pinched the tender skin at the back of his knee with the clip.

"Oops."

It was the most unusual method of bandaging a person's leg Liam had ever seen. Awkward and uncomfortable, probably for both of them, as Harvard used his chin to secure the sock bandage around his leg before-

"Hey!" Jerking it away hurt, which resulted in a wince and a momentary pause in all motion as he pressed hands to his injured leg and breathed in through his teeth. Then, as the wave faded, he narrowed dark blue eyes at the former professor, glowering at him. "Was that really necessary?

He used his none injured leg to nudge the other man out of the way so he could get down off the table. Apparently, at a certain point, sleep deprivation could crack even the kindest soul and make them cranky. Liam seemed to have reached that point. "Just sit down and give me your arms so we can get this over with."

"Surely you don't mind a little improvisation, Liam? And it was an accident, of course." Of course it wasn't. Liam's reaction was a little more amusing, he supposed but, god, all the effort expended just to get such a reaction. And it was a little less amusing than anticipated. Cranky, yes, but a regular kind of cranky.

Harvard scratched his beard and obligingly extended one arm. "Surely you don't expect both - broken, you know."

He shot him another sour look, not bothering to comment on what he was fairly certain was a boldfaced lie. It wasn't worth arguing about. Even if it was, it wasn't worth doing it here. They shared a room, if they wrre going to argue it'd be so much better to do it there, away from everyone else.

The single extended arm was just fine, and Liam adjusted to stand beside it. "One is fine." Obviously he wasn't intending to touch the broken one. He wouldn't have wanted anyone touching his leg just to practice wrapping a sock bandage around it, so he wasn't going to do the same to anyone else. Not even Harvard. "Just hold still."

This, it seemed, Liam seemed to be fairly good at. He anchored the end of the sock with his thumb against Harvard's bicep, then started wrapping down from there, keeping the overlap equal all the way down. When he reached the end he set it with a clip.

Harvard looked almost disappointed. He liked involuntary reactions, sudden outbursts, knowing he'd made the other lose control. And maybe he had made Liam react a bit, but it wasn't loud and it was not big. So, the sour look was met only with a bland, innocent smile. He suffered through Liam's tender ministrations wordlessly, twisting his arm as needed. The socks felt strange against his skin - which was odd, because he put them on his feet and they felt normal there. And then Liam was done, without taking any of the opportunities presented himself.

"Congratulations on being roughly competent, Liam." He unclipped it and began to unroll the socks off his arm There was no point going around with it on his body. The he stretched his neck and looked around. A tech caught his eye and motioned tot eh cleaning supplies. "Stop ********' 'round," she said sternly. Harvard raised one eyebrow, but headed over anyway.

"Come on, I'm sure you need to be clean more than anyone else, Liam."

Liam didn't a very good job of ignoring the initial comment on his competence. Not hard when he knew and accepted that he wasn't the smartest guy. What he couldn't ignore was the second comment, the one regarding cleanliness. That had him jerking his head up, baby blues narrowing up at the other man. "And what's that supposed to mean?"

He was clean. He showered daily and didn't roll around in dirt. He made sure his clothing was as clean as was humanly possible given the circumstances, and he still had that half a stick of deodorant he'd found in a raid of the dorms they'd done a few weeks back. Maybe he didn't smell like roses, be he certain'y didn't smell bad. Far from it.
