gaia_crown [ OBJECTIVE 2: ]

- Scavenge the office building for supplies
OOC: You will need to scavenge the local office building (STAPLES) for supplies. Any information you discover within the building can be used for later.

[ Step 1 ] Each player must roll 4d10 in their post. Match your dice to the rolls below. RP it out in ANY order.

1. Your character finds a stapler. It doesn't seem very useful. It is still attached to an arm, that has long begun it's final stages of decay. Attached to the bracelet of the arm is a name. "R O R...." the rest is missing.

2. Your character finds boxes and boxes of receipts. It doesn't look very informative.

3. Your character turns the corner and finds one of the undying! They must remain quiet for a bit to avoid being caught. If your character wishes to fight it instead for some reason, the undying has 50 HP and does -5 auto damage.

4. Your character finds a stray cat. It doesn't seem very friendly.

5. Your character notices a strange room. It seems to be locked.

6. Your character notices a foul smell coming from the copier room. You notice that the copier has stopped running, but there are pages and pages of images that surround it. Each one depicts someone being brutally stabbed. It is difficult to look at.

7. Your character notices some booze! Unfortunately it is empty

8. Your character manages to find some loose change. Not very handy.

9. Your character comes across a disgusting sight - a half-eaten body. The smell is repulsive and causes you to involuntarily gag. The half-eaten face's eyeballs are still looking at you, darting back and forth, moving.

10. You come across several rats all clustered together. You don't want to know why.

[ Step 2 ] After your character is done scavenging, simply report your findings to one of the bandits. Your work here is done.

Mission Bonus: +1 random drink item. Pick it up here after dropping off the form below.
Faction Bonus:+ 1 bonus district point in your choice (drop off using the bonus district points form in your main faction info thread)

Blind. That was what she was. Blind and useless. Seriously. How could a blind girl help with things? She could hear, sure. She could fumble about. But what good could she really do?

There had to be something.

And Joy Ann couldn't really talk. Blind and mute, but still together somehow, and ready to explore the office building for their faction.

She was hoping that the bandits had assigned them this task because they looked helpless and incapable, because that was certainly how she was feeling at the moment. "Lehts stahe togehher," she slurred and clung to Autumn's arm as the pain made her feel dizzy.

Joy Ann gave Autumn's arm a small tug and took her first steps down the hallway, staying close to the wall for Autumn's sake. Although, Joy Ann wasn't sure if she would want to touch the wall... But what Autumn couldn't see wouldn't hurt her, right?

"Probably the best idea," Autumn agreed. Poor Joy Ann, she sounded odd enough that Autumn was sure the injury to her jaw was pretty bad. Autumn couldn't tell, of course, and she had her own pain distracting her. Mostly a sore head. Though she was quite worried her sight would never return. It was worry she was keeping to herself, though. If she was deemed useless forever, who knew? They might just kill her.

Autumn did what she could to push the thoughts away.

And she was quite grateful that Joy Ann stayed near the wall, because she did indeed find it a comfort to touch. Help keep them on the path an all. And it was good to know where it was, Autumn reasoned. In case they needed to run, she didn't want to run into the wall.

She was so going to wash her hands when they got back to the prison, though.

"See anything interesting yet?" Autumn kind of hoped not.

Joy Ann trailed on next to Autumn, keeping her eyes peeled since her friend---dare she call Autumn a friend? Well, in any case, Autumn definitely couldn't look around for them. And unfortunately Joy Ann couldn't really answer Autumn's question easily.

There was a door on the right, but a quick check of the door knob proved that it was locked. "Mrrrm," Joy Ann tried to vocalize the lack of anything of import and kept walking down the hallway. There seemed to be a whiff of a foul smell on the wind... Hopefully they wouldn't find what was causing it.

Autumn was trying not to worry about tripping over things. It was very disconcerting trying to move when you couldn't see. She trusted Joy Ann to not let her walk into a pile of knives or something, but... Autumn was trying really hard not to think about the zombies. With each breath, each heartbeat, another little fear pushed it's way to the surface. She'd never even see them coming, would she? No, she would not.

"I see," Autumn said upon hearing the door knob click followed by Joy Ann's grumble. Must be locked. Some part of Autumn hoped all the doors in this place were locked. It would mean they could be out of here and back in the comforts of 'home' quickly. That would not help, however. They had a job to do, they needed to succeed. "We'll keep trying."

Autumn's nose crinkled as she picked up hint of stink. Just a hint. That seemed to grow with each step they took. Her hand slid along the wall, also with each step, guiding her way, helping her balance. The doorway was a nice surprise, though she was sure Joy Ann had seen it coming.

The smell was strong here, and it seemed the door was open, since Autumn's hand hit nothing but air when she tried to find it. "Shall we see what's in here?"

From Autumn's perspective, there wasn't much to see, but one or two stumbling steps led her to a plastic box that came above her waste. She could feel button's on it. Electronics were no good anymore, were they?

"What is it?" She asked Joy Ann. "Can you tell?" Another shuffling step, and something slid under and along her feet. Autumn bent down. "Paper? Do you think we have any use for paper?"

Joy Ann momentarily trailed after Autumn as she turned into a room and ran into a copier. Thankfully the other woman seemed to be fine with making the conversation last all by herself, because not only was Joy Ann not able to speak physically, she was now speechless because of the horrifying things she was seeing.

It wasn't just a copier, it was a copier with pictures. Horrible pictures of someone being stabbed. "Uh, uhhh," Joy Ann whined in her throat and tugged Autumn back into the hallway, only to kick a half-eaten body. ...a half-eaten body that looked like it was still alive because its eyes were somehow open and moving.

The brunette sobbed in surprise and disgust, the only thing keeping her from running was Autumn's lack of vision. Notthinkingaboutit, just keep going. She stopped tugging Autumn as they reached the next corner, thinking that she may have heard something. Someone walking? There was a desk over there, though of course Autumn couldn't see it... She tugged her friend over and down behind it and then huddled on the floor next to the cook herself, placing one fist in her mouth so she could cry silently for a bit. She just needed a moment, okay? Hopefully the desk would keep them hidden from whatever was coming, if that sound she had heard was in fact something and not her imagination.

"I suppose not. Nothing else interesting in here, then?" Autumn asked as Joy Ann tugged her back towards where the door ought to be. "Yeah. I don't think there is much we can do with paper for now. We'll just make note that it's here."

Autumn followed Joy Ann's direction, hardly realizing that she trusted the girl quite completely now. She had to, more or less, at this point. So far so good, though. Joy Ann was watching, and Autumn was...listening and trying not to fall over. She did wonder, though, what the place might look like. How much a shamble was it? She felt things at her feet from time to time. Paper, trash, other things she couldn't place. But Joy Ann led on, so Autumn followed.

Until Joy Ann paused. "Where-" She had just started to ask a question when Joy Ann was tugging her again, and then down. Autumn had the distinct impression they were hiding. It was reminiscent of Autumn's night spent under the desk, the night the world had gone to hell. "Is there something th-" She had just started to whisper it when she heard something. A footstep? A shuffle? "Ah," she breathed before going silent.

Autumn listened after that, and hoped nothing bad would happen.

Joy Ann whimpered against her fist, glad that Autumn seemed to be able to get the idea despite her lack of explaining things. She peered over the edge of the desk, and sure enough, there was an undying. ...Make that two undying.

She moved as slowly as possible and put her free hand over Autumn's mouth, hoping that would get the message across while keeping them silent. She had absolutely no weapons on her, and she doubted Autumn had anything. Maybe she ought to have tried to win that knife at the faction meeting yesterday... No, there was no way she would be able to take on one of those monsters with her friend blind and a possible casualty as well.

They would just have to stay hidden and wait for them to move on. And move on they did, after what seemed like an eternity. When absolutely everything seemed silent besides her and Autumn's breathing, Joy Ann cautiously stood up and looked around the room. Coast seemed clear. "Ohkah," she said softly, just in case, helping Autumn back to her feet. "Thar wah unduhin," she tried to explain before placing her hand on Autumn's arm and slowly moving forward again. This place was a nightmare and all she wanted to do now was find the door out. Only... She couldn't remember which way they had come from. "Lehs go bahk." Wherever back was.

She could hear Joy Ann, little whimpers and squeaks, and Autumn sincerely hoped it wasn't anything too terrible upsetting the girl. She might have asked about it, but she could hear the shuffling from...well not where the girls were. Joy Ann's hand covering her mouth startled her, but drove home the idea that silence was necessary. Autumn could handle that.

As it began to sink in just how close to danger they might be, Autumn noticed her heart was racing. She tried to keep her breathing quiet, and she tried not to move. Silence. Safety. Autumn focused on what would keep her alive.

She almost jumped when Joy Ann finally moved, after what seemed like ages. Things had gone quiet, for sure, but Autumn didn't know if she trusted what she couldn't see. What if the whoever or whatever was out there had stopped moving, too? But Joy Ann would see them if they had.

So Autumn let out a little sigh of relief when the other girl confirmed things were alright. "Ah," Autumn whispered as she tried to find her balance again, "thanks for hiding us, then."

Autumn's steps were slow as she followed Joy Ann's direction. "Okay, I like that idea. We've likely been gone long enough." Yes. The idea of going back was a good one. Out of this place, somewhere safe. She'd just have to trust Joy Ann to lead them back to the exit.

Autumn let her free arm slide along the wall again feeling comfort in knowing at least something of their surroundings. They passed one door, closed and locked (Autumn did give it a try, quietly), followed by another door that had been wide open. Autumn almost wondered if it was the room with all the paper.

"Are we nearly out?"

Joy Ann was very carefully not looking down as they moved down the hallway again. She was pretty sure that it was the same hallway as before, but since she was actively trying not to remember what she had previously seen in the building it was hard to be sure.

"I thik so," she replied fuzzily to Autumn's question about almost being out. She would have added a 'hopefully' and a 'I never want to come back here again', but her jaw was making her a little less than chatty. Talking less just meant listening more, which was totally fine with her, since the undying didn't seem to be ones who went around announcing their presence. They really ought to hire a couple of heralds to do that for them.

Due to the quiet, her ears detected the squeaking before they almost walked into a cluster of rats. Ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh! Why couldn't they have died in the mess that was going on. Bane of city life, really. "Rahs, seph righ," she cautioned Autumn, tugging her to the right a bit. Heebie jeebies!

Autumn let out a little sigh of relief. She wanted to be out of this place. She wanted to be home, for all that home was. The prison was safe, and this place was not. It was clearly full of trash and undying. And strange little sounds, though nothing that sounded like footsteps, beyond theirs of course. In fact, what was that little noise. It was so hard to tell and she had no way to confirm anything. Aargh!

"Huh?" The question was in reaction to Joy Ann's warning, and Autumn followed the girl right even before she fully comprehended what was happening. "Rahs? Rats?" That made sense with the sound, maybe. "Oh, lord, were they eating something?" Autumn didn't really want to think about it, but she was thinking about it. She didn't at all.

She wanted to be out. She wanted - Autumn would never know what she tripped over. All she knew was that her foot didn't cooperate. For one heart wrenching moment she imagined a hand around her ankle, but even as that image entered her mind she knew it was false. She'd tripped over something. Tripped and fell. She flailed, reaching out for wall or Joy Ann, but not being able to see was hard and new. Autumn hit the wall with her shoulder, and then continued to the floor with an "Ooomphf!"

She gasped, and flailed in an attempt to right herself. "I'm okay! Are you?" Even as she asked, she put her hand down on a box. A box that appeared to have something in it. Something that hissed and scratched and the meowled as it jumped out of the box and away. Where to, Autumn had no idea.

"Holy Hell!" Autumn gasped. "Joy Ann, is everything all right?"

Autumn was in one piece, but she honestly knew nothing beyond that.

She turned her head slightly to nod no before remembering that Autumn couldn't see her right now. "Nah," she vocalized softly, with a shudder for the thought. Thank goodness the rats hadn't been eating anything. They were just being... Rats. She supposed she really ought not to be blaming them for how they were by nature's own doing, but still... Rats. Ugh.

Perhaps she should have been looking down more, because down Autumn went while all Joy Ann could do was stand there and flail as her friend fell over. Where were her lightning reflexes now, huh, huh?

She reached for Autumn's arms again, to help her up, only belatedly looking after the cat. Huh, who would have thought it. Rats and cats. "Ish okah," she tried to speak without moving her jaw too much. "Ish a cah." She failed at t-sounds with her tongue all swollen like this. "Mew mew, eah saa rahs." ...Now she sounded like one of her kindergarten students. NOTthinkingaboutthem.

Thankfully, they seemed to have reached the door they entered the building through. Now they had to make it back to the bandits to report what they'd found. Hopefully Autumn could do that, because Joy Ann really didn't feel like she'd be able to talk any more for a bit. It hurt too much. "Lehs go tehl bandihs, you talhk lease." And that was all she was going to say for awhile. Hopefully the doctor in the med bay back at the prison could do something about this pain.

"Okay," Autumn said as she got to her feet. She was okay, Joy Ann was fine, and all it had been was a cat. Considering the fact that things could have been a thousand times worse, Autumn wasn't even mad at herself for tripping. (Though she was still thoroughly upset at not being able to see. She might just cry herself to sleep that night. That would have to wait, though.)

It was wonderful to leave the building. Even Autumn could tell that they had left it. She let out a big sigh of relaxation. "So glad that's over. And yeah. I'll do the talking. We didn't find anything, really, except undying and animals. Right? I think that was it. Oh, and paper. I think that was it. Just lead the way, Joy Ann."

Autumn was likely to ramble on in Joy Ann's silence. Some kind of comforting thing to help distract herself from the fact that she couldn't see. Please don't let it be permanent. She just knew she'd not last long blind.
