Weiss in general - Animal Theme Naming - Each of them is code-named for a breed of cat: Abyssinian, Bombay, Balinese, and Siberian. Gluhen adds "Havana [Brown]" and "LaPerm," although unlike the original four these codenames are never used aloud in the anime (they belong to Kyou and Sena respectively) Cartwright Curse - As a side effect of being Doom Magnets par excellance, nobody in Weiss has much luck keeping girlfriends alive. Yoji has it the worst, but everyone on the team except for Kyou has at least one instance. Creepy Cool Crosses - A white cross is the team's logo, and they all wear red crosses on their "working clothes" in Gluhen. Both Aya and Youji wear silver crosses with their street clothes (justified in Aya's case, since he's at least shown to read the Bible and talk points on it with nuns). Dark and Troubled Past Doom Magnets Flower Motifs: Each of the boys is associated with a particular flower: Aya is red roses, Omi is freesias, Youji is cattleya (a specific type of orchid), Ken is gentians, Sena is pansies, and Kyou is yellow roses. Four is Death - Aside from initially having four members, look at the fates of the Fourth Weiss team: two dead, one amnesiac, one in prison, one stabbed to not-quite-death on a street corner, and their boss giving up everything that makes him a nice person. Hitmen With Hearts It's Personal - The Third Weiss team (Aya, Omi, Ken and Youji) all have a fairly plausible reason to want Reiji Takatori dead. It's plain to the audience that the core four care about each other, but they're all so damaged and wrapped up in their own issues that, by the time they realize it, it's too late. We Help the Helpless - And when they get there too late, they enact bloody vengeance.
Ken Hidaka VA: Tomokazu Seki (JP) It's too late to confess now. Adaptation Dye Job - Has Brown Eyes in the manga adaptations, but his eye color is inconsistent (brown, blue, and green at various different points) in the anime. The Gluhen redesign settles on green. Badass Biker Beleaguered Childhood Friend - Rather cruel variant, as Ken is an assassin ordered to kill his friend, Kase. Kase is a really sucky friend. The Big Guy Blood Knight - Dramatic Precious through Gluhen, though he seems to more or less get over it by Side B. Break the Cutie Cartwright Curse - His record is better than Yoji's, but not by very much. At least Yuriko got Put on a Bus... Deliberate Injury Gambit - The former Trope Namer, back when it was named I Have Two Kidneys. In order to take out Godmode Clone Toudou at the end of Gluhen, Ken grabs him from behind and covers his mouth, and calls for Aya to run them both through. Deuteragonist - Side B, arguably Dramatic Precious. He's even the Protagonist of Verbrechen and Strafe. Establishing Character Moment - in Assassin and White Shaman, when his reaction to "Remember this guy who attacked you yesterday? He's your new teammate!" is to punch Aya in the face, and then say "It's nice to meet you." Youji says this was how Ken "greeted" him, too. Fingerless Gloves - While riding his motorcycle, and later, for his bagh nakh. Goggles Do Nothing - The orange shirt around his waist, and not actually the goggles. Horrible Judge of Character Hot Blooded In Love with the Mark - In Dramatic Precious, he falls for Reika, who turns out to be one of Weiss's targets. It's Not You, It's My Enemies - to Yuriko Japanese Christian Kill The Ones You Love - In Holy Children and Dramatic Precious. Out of Focus - See here. The later installments of the series attempt to make up for it... with angst. Lots of angst. Raised Catholic - Ken's religious upbringing is hinted at in the anime series, but much more apparent in the Drama CDs. Self Restraint - At the end of Gluhen he gets himself put into prison of his own volition, apparently via Takatori connections, in order to have "time to think." Sunglasses at Night - Gluhen. The Masquerade Will Kill Your Dating Life Wolverine Claws - modified bagh nakh, retractable "tiger claws" hidden in his gloves. Very, very messy, up close and personal method of killing, and in the drama CDs, this is part of why he goes crazy.

He seems to be most interested in settling some kind of score with Kaze, and actually helps the heroes on occasion. Eventually, it becomes clear that he's investigating Chaos for his own reasons. Ryuichi Sakuma Voiced by: Kappei Yamaguchi (Japanese), Kenneth Robert Marlo (English) Bunny-Ears Lawyer: In the manga. Genius Ditz: In the anime. Keet Older Than They Look - Ryuichi looks about as old as nineteen-year-old Shuichi when he's in fact thirty years old. Arguably, round-faced Shuichi doesn't look his age either. The same goes for Tohma and Noriko, both being over thirty and looking very young for their ages. Verbal Tic: Na no da! Genius Ditz: Ryuichi acts just like a little kid until he gets in front of a microphone, when he suddenly goes into "serious" mode and his Puppy-Dog Eyes narrow. He's more of a Bunny-Ears Lawyer in the manga where he shows surprising ingenuity even when not acting completely "adult" (making one wonder if it's actually Obfuscating Stupidity; who knows?). Due to supernatural events in Gravitation Ex, it seems that Ryuichi may actually be suffering from two separate, conflicting personalities.
