A sand whale has been spotted nearing the village sand harbour!. These creatures are extremely unfriendly and have been known to swallow entire buildings. Ring the gong, fire bombs, throw ballistas, do what you can to stop the sand whale!
- The sand whale has 200/200 HP. When it hits 150 HP it will leave and swim away.
- At the start of the battle roll 1d6. This is the amount of ballista shots your character gets. Every time you use a ballista shot, you do a perfect 10 HP damage.
- The sand whale does an automatic -1 damage to you every time you attack the sand whale.
- If you run out of ballista shots, roll 1d6 again to gather more. However, each time you gather more the sand whale hits you for -5 damage!
gaia_star If you thwart the sand whale it drops a whale fin, it is considered a quest item. Add it to your quest item list

Lock went to check on their ballista stock. He didn't like the idea of a sand whale (sand was dense and hard to attack with shadows since it wasn't really ... tangible). Unless it was actually a whale. Then it was okay.
Thankfully, the village they were in had more than enough to spare. He gestured Shun over, that they should attack with the big guns instead of their weapons.
Well. It wasn't hard to see the whale as it moved through the sand. Shun furrowed his brow while looking around. The ballistae that were stationed around the harbor should make sufficient weapons against the beast.
"Grab a ballista. Get some rounds ready."

Lock nodded and carried one of the rounds over to the enormous ballista. The thing was on the heavy side and Lock wasn't known for his physical prowess, but he moved it in time to fire a shot off.
Direct hit!
But it didn't seem to do a lot against such a behemoth. He would've hated to fight these things with just his shadows.

Shun cranked the ballista, getting it into position and loading it up. He hadn't really used one of these before but... that thing was a giant target. Precision wasn't as needed. Once he had the weapon pointed at the sand whale, he let it fire, sending one of the giant arrows flying straight into the creature's side.

He realized that moving the ballista into position often wasn't useful; by the time he had moved it, the sand whale had already moved on and he had to move the ballista all over again.
Instead, he adopted a strategy of leaving the ballista in place and waiting for the sand whale to come into view. It proved a lot more useful for such a speedy enemy.

Shun readied his weapon once more, then worked on getting a shot lined up. Once he had the right moment, he let another bolt loose and landed another solid hit on the whale.

Lock gave him a squinty look, but said nothing. He merely pushed up his glasses and turned back to the ballista. Now was no time for petty offenses.
He did get a badass moment, because the sand whale turned towards the ship and opened its maw, preparing to take a bite. Then Lock shot the ballista right into its mouth.
Considering it now had an explosion in its stomach, the creature turned tail and limped away, probably to its nest to sleep.

Shun had readied another shot, but it seemed it wasn't needed. The whale had retreated. With a tilt of his head, he watched, waiting. There was a slight chance it was feigning this in order to get them to lower their guards. When it continued to just flee, he let out a breath.
"Good work."
