A villager has left a tip about some form of virus happening to the local minipet wildlife. It is up to you to check it out!
Your character must catch one of the local minipets wandering around. Roll 1d10 and see what phrase you get from the list. Then use the minisglossary to pick a pet with that phrase in it (do not pick SE pets or RE ones!)
1. Tropical 2. Sweet 3. Black 4. White 5. Spooky 6. Cheese 7. Onion 8. War 9. Wish 10. Eyeball
Once they have caught one, they need to carefully examine it to make sure it has no signs of the virus (the symptoms are possibly purple, evil looking, very vicious) then they can let it go. If however, it is purple or shows possible signs of the virus, they should hand it in to the villager. Roll 1d4 to see what the villager gives you for your time.
1. You get nothing. They take the pet and go away. 2. You get a halfhearted thumbs up. 3. The pet bites you as you near away from it! Ouch! Add +2 to your miasma meter. 4. The villager looks at you. He says "they key to the door is 8888." He leaves.
Shun had a few suspicions on what this so called virus was that he overheard some of the villagers talking about. After a bit of thought, he decided it was time to look into just what it was. Assumptions were never enough. He needed more information.
And he also had his little mentee with him.
First and foremost, they were going to need to find one of these infected creatures. If it was insanity, it wouldn't be hard to tell.

Lock walked carefully behind Shun, taking in his surroundings. He wanted to get every detail down, everything that might have been useful to figuring out the virus. Lock had heard stories of the insanity that plagued the world, but never really had a first hand experience with it. He'd heard plenty of stories from Shun though, and he wanted no part of it.
"What are we looking for?" He knew insanity came with a grey fog and misshapen parts, but not the particulars of this village. Overall the place looked dull, dreary and spooky. Not in the good old fashioned Halloween way either, but in the "something is really wrong with this place" kind of way. Either way, it was worth investigating.

"If this is Insanity we are dealing with, which is highly possible, there are a few key characteristics. Large parts of the body may be a grayish color, if not entirely. The eyes tend to be either bright blue or gold. Parts of the body may give off wisps of smoke or mist." he explained.
There was a pause before Shun gave a shake of his head.
"But if this is not Insanity, or if it is some strange offshoot of it, then that may not necessarily apply. Keep an eye out for anything that may resemble it, though."

Shun's description was ... relatively useless for Lock. Colors and mist would do nothing for him in a land covered in mist and color. Miasma village wasn't really making this easy on them.
"And if we find one? What do we do then?" he questioned, walking behind Shun with quieter steps. It seemed smarter to let the knowledgeable one take point. "Aren't they hostile?" Lock wanted a gameplan more than he wanted results.

Shun took some time to think about that one.
"The villagers would know best in this case. Killing the creature outright would not gain us much information, though that would be a safer option. We may wish to subdue it and bring it in to know for certain. Our exact tactic will depend on the creature. Generally speaking, coming in from behind is typically a decent strategy. Injure it if necessary, disabling any limb that may pose a threat."

Lock looked at Shun somewhat skeptically. All of this for one minipet, no matter how dangerous, seemed a bit much. All it would take is maybe a stab from Shun's daggers to take it out. Not that Lock was incredibly comfortable killing minipets for no reason, but it all just seemed a bit harsh and dramatic.
"It is ... a minipet." As in, a little tiny ball of fear. Not really something to strategize so heavily over. Still, Shun probably knew best. He had more experience with this. "But I'll see to it that it's done properly." Never let it be said that when Lock was given a job, he wouldn't do it properly. Especially not one given to him by his mentor.

"Yes, and you should never underestimate an enemy."
Shun gave a curt nod to Lock, then began to venture out to begin their little hunt or so to speak. He kept his daggers away for the time being, but he was ready to call upon him should a substantial threat arise before them.
After a short trek, he caught some movement out of his good eye. He came to a halt and held a hand up, staring ahead to try and see what it was.

Well ... that was a fair point. Lock kind of felt like he'd been had. Shun always won arguments though, so it made sense.
He paused at the hand, watching his surroundings and summoning small shadows from the ground, little blobs transferring from his own shadows to his hand and then back to his shadow.
What he saw was a tiny minipet, somewhat innocent looking but frothin with a purpleish haze. "They ... aren't supposed to do that, are they?"

Shun observed the creature from where he stood, watching it carefully.
"I am not too familiar with that particular species but... no, I do not think so. That purple haze is... odd. Let us take it in, then."
He began to circle around.
"This one has no notable external 'weapons'. Stay on your guard and get around it. Use your shadows to bind if if you must," he stated before vanishing into one of the tree's shadows. Three seconds he had to get into position.

Lock always felt a momentary panic when Shun did that whole "disappear into the shadows and leave you alone" thing. Of course, shadows weren't something Lock really feared.
He did as he was told and summoned tethers of shadows, wrapping them around the creature's legs carefully. It required closed eyes and concentrations; Lock was still only a second year and still learning after all.
Worse yet, it require that Voodoo be present. That was never a good thing for anybody.

Once the shadows began their work, Shun reappeared from his veil, shooting an arm out to pin the creature down while Lock hindered it. He looked it over quickly, then aimed a strike to the back of its head in an attempt to knock it unconscious. Sure enough, the minipet went limp. The Reaper didn't let up his hold just yet. After a moment or so, he looked to Lock and gave a nod.
"Good work. Let us bring it in."

Shun wasn't necessarily sparse with his praise, but he was certainly poignant with when he chose to give it. Lock always felt like it was well earned when he did; never babying or prudent.
"Let me carry it," he said, concentrating enough to wrap the creature in a sort of "bubble" of shadows. "Better that we don't touch it," he explained shortly. Of course, that left Voodoo to swat at the new toy, to which Lock gave her disapproving looks.
When they approached the villager with the minipet, they were given a blank look at best. He said "the key to the door is 8888," cradled the minipet in his arms and then walked away petting it. Lock gave Shun a look. Well that happened.
