Ahoy everyone!

To help new fishers break into the game a bit easier, I'd like to write up some updated guides and information for the guild that we can link to in each issue of the magazine.

This thread will be to compile a list of vocab, slang, and acronyms specific to fishing that others may see in the fishing chat or in various articles! Think of it as a mini dictionary~

Let's think of some words together! Feel free to post additions you don't see in the list below and we'll add them! Once we have a nice list we can start on an official guide with definitions.

Terms:
AR ~ Angelic Rod
ARP ~ AR+ ~ Angelic Rod Plus
Bot - A fisher who isn't actually a human but instead a program or script that is run for the sole purpose of fishing autonomously.
BR ~ Basic Rod
BRP ~ BR+ ~ Basic Rod Plus
Dredging ~
DR ~ Distance Rod
DRP ~ DR+ ~ Distance Rod Plus
Filtering ~
Junking ~
Large Game ~
Powerfishing ~ (AKA Speedfishing) ~

Reserving ~ Refers to using a mule account to load in and hold a fishing spot, usually for a friend.

Possible New Terminology:
Fishing Blind ~ Fishing while multitasking, or otherwise being able to fish while not looking solely at the screen.

Hermit Crab ~ A person who chooses to fish alone by either locking their room to hide it or by using a password.

Iron fisher ~ Someone who fishes for long, extended periods of time, taking only short power naps.

Asleep on the docks ~ Someone who is afk for prolonged periods of time. Usage: "Hey I just saw angela, she was asleep on the docks as usual." "Geez how did she ever manage to win so many trophies like that?"

fried sushi ~ someone who fishes for long, extended periods of time, with a quarter of their brain cells functioning (ie, brain-fried), taking only short power naps, on bamboo diet, loves pandas, pandas, & did i mention pandas?
pirate/s - the greatest fisher/s in the game, top of all the rankings, steals wins all yo trophies, and isn't afraid of anything pirate

"Official" Bucket Terminology

There's a few types of different fishers out there, each tending to get (or wish for) specific things in their buckets. As there has been some confusion over what a "perfect" or "decent" or "horrible" bucket is, we have taken the information from a former overall winner and expanded the information into 12 main types of buckets that people get or hope to get.

Sushi Platter
- Must contain every type of non-rare fish available.
- Must contain no junk.

Perfect Bucket
- Must contain nine large fish.
- Must contain no trash, no small fish.
- Must contain one of each variety of medium fish and large fish available.

Lucky Bucket
- Must contain one saved rare fish.

Hat Bucket
- Contains nine or more of the same type and color of fish/junk.

Performance Bucket
- Must contain nine large fish.
- Must contain no trash, no small fish.

Sweet Bucket
- Must contain no trash, no small fish.

Traitor Bucket
- Must contain only one small fish or one piece of junk.

Filtered Bucket
- Must contain no trash.

Speed Bucket
- Must be finished within five minutes.

Dredge Bucket
- Must catch everything hooked.

Trash Bucket
- Must contain mostly junk.
- Must contain just enough fish to pay for the cost of the bait.

Junk Magnet
- Must contain four or five of every type of junk. (Bonus points for lining them all on the same row.)
- Must contain no fish.

Bonus Terminology!

Some fishers have come up with terms of their own to describe special buckets. If you'd like to submit a term, post it here or PM it to Logan, and if we like it, it could appear here!

Checkerboard Bucket
- Must contain two different kinds of fish, which you catch in an alternating patterns. For example, you might try to catchu a green seedkin, then a blue seedkin, then another green seedkin, etc.

Magnet Bucket
- must fill the bucket with only 1 type of fish.

Adding onto the list with some "official" or widely accepted ones:

Filtering - Intentionally losing certain fish or junk for the sole purpose of getting a higher score and PI.

Junking - Intentionally losing fish and attempting to catch only junk for the purpose of getting a higher junk score.

Dredging - Intentionally catching everything you hook, prioritizing quantity over qualiity.

Powerfishing/Speedfishing - Attempting to catch everything you hook in the fastest manner possible.

A few "fun" terms:

Asleep on the docks - Someone who is afk for prolonged periods of time. Usage: "Hey I just saw angela, she was asleep on the docks as usual." "Geez how did she ever manage to win so many trophies like that?"

Fishing Blind (not really) - Fishing while multitasking, or otherwise being able to fish while not looking directly at the screen.

"Racing"/Large game - A game many veteran fishers play to challenge one another. Participants are generally required to catch a set number of fish (usually large fish) the fastest.

P0/p6 glitch - A well-known glitch that occasionally happens when a room has one more spot left and someone with a slower connection is "loading or in the p0 spot" while someone with a faster connection loads in, resulting in the faster person either being in the open spot while the slower person remains in the p0 spot. Alternatively if the slower person finishes loading in they will take the open spot first while the faster person will be assigned to the p6 spot.

Fun fact: Almost all of the "fun" terms I came up with are named after certain past trophy winners. lol

Admittedly I nearly forgot about it too, I didn't think it up until the very end. emotion_facepalm

It's true tho, I'm terrible at multi tasking so when I'm in fishing, I generally either fish or just chat. If I try to do the other thing then I'll often lose my focus on the other thing and totallly forget about it. lol

Most of them share the first name "I", but "I Can" is a perfectly acceptable and loving name. mad There are a few "You"s in there as well. 4laugh

Lists are definitely a helpful tool for staying on track! Thus why I created this list in the first place haha. So I definitely get those feels~
