It was cold, freezing even as they entered, despite the sun shining through the windows. Nothing is sure within the castle, nothing can be taken for granted. Not anymore.
Clusters of black crystal, large and small, cover broad swathes of halls and rooms. They offer odd reflections to those who look too closely as them, a face very like their own but somehow changed. Sometimes just a small scar or two of difference, sometimes...monsters gaze back. Familiar ones.
Touching them offers something more. Something better and worse and satisfying.
The barest brush of contact and suddenly their mind and heart are elsewhere, leaving a body that draws its weapon and turns it on any in sight, black-eyed and full of vicious purpose.
Quote:
EXPLORING THE CASTLE
Touching a crystal: This action takes the knight into an au-trance state. Their mind goes to an alternate universe, leaving their body to attack others.
Alternate Universes: Any universe that has been tied to canon is an option, including the canon universe outside this event! You may also create a new AU, or even play off the current Knight Universe, and create one where the current events went differently or didn't happen at all. There is a lot of source material to draw from, and this is as restricted/free as you feel comfortable with! This can be written as a solo, or multiple knights coming into contact with the same crystal may find themselves in the same one. Solo/prp/orp threads are all viable for this prompt.
Memory: They will not remember the current world while in the AU state, but they will remember small portions of the au that they experienced after.
Theme: All AUs have one unifying theme for your knights - vengeance. They are in a moment/place where vengeance is their overriding desire.
PvP: In the current world, the only way to knock a hunter under the crystals' influence/make them stop attacking is for a Great Knight to intervene in the method of their choice (attack/heal/talk or whatever seems in character for them to use) or 13 damage from other knights. Otherwise they have an auto attack of 3!
This is an option. You may use this prompt and have your knight go into an au trance as many times as you like. Your knight may avoid the black crystals and even their effects on others as they explore the overtaken castle if you wish.
Eventually the knights will reach the doors to the Throne Room.

The journey home was a silent one for Shun. And needless to say, once they had actually arrived in Camelot, he was on high alert. The doors had been wide open. Inviting.
"This has to be a trap..." he mumbled under his breath. He went on and drew both katar, keeping them in hand. There was no telling what was waiting for them, exactly. And something had to be waiting.
Once within the castle, he noticed the freezing chill that seemed to sink into his bones. If he didn't think there was anything wrong before, the cluster of black crystals all around pointed at just that. They looked similar to the ones that the gate had left behind, when Morgana first whisked that away. However... something seemed to be a bit different.
Perhaps the difference was in his reflection. He never got a clear look as he moved further in, but he could see some odd things from the corner of his vision as he passed them by. With a furrowed brow, he began to maneuver carefully through the hall. No signs of shadows anywhere.
Yet.
He turned around, scanning the area for where the rest of the knights were. Now came time to decide what to do. If they spread out too thin, each individual would not be able to do much on their own. Staying in one big lump meant less ground would be covered.
"Black knights. Group up. At least three per group. Go with the others if you must. Keep a sharp eye out, and do not go alone. Report anything you find."

Chel had chosen the silent route as well. She'd made small comments as they'd approached the castle (how could one not comment on the black spires that split the sky?), but she'd needed some time to contemplate events. She felt a sense of pride seeing the bruises on Jack's face, but they solved nothing.
She slowly filed through the area behind Shun. Not so much out of a sense of duty (Chel had never really had that), but out of a need for defense. The castle evoked something in her, something unintentionally familiar. She didn't trust it, so she had Shun as her first line of defense.
When he announced an order, Chel snorted. As if she would ever listen to anything anyone said, even if it was a friend. "Okay Shun," she said in a murmur only to him. "Have fun playin' leader. I'll do my thing an' tell y'what I find later."

It was too quiet. She had been expecting to have to fight for every inch of ground to reclaim Camelot. Instead,
Estel took a deep breath, looking around for her knights. "White brigade," she called. "Careful what you touch. Don't look too long or too closely at anything mirror-like. We'll be sticking together as a unit for the time being, heading up to the walls to inspect the ramparts first before we enter any buildings."

Uru moved amongst the ranks with his head high and arms at his side. The view of their once pristine home was besmirched by the darkness that now resided within its hallowed halls. The bridge was a amalgamation of shadow and what was left after the defensive siege had destroyed it with barrels, tables, hay, kegs, and chicken. The gate was left opened - inviting all into the darkness inside.
"I thought that obvious, Sir Shun." Uru deadpanned beside the Great Knight. He gave a bemused huff, rubbing a gauntlet finger under his nose.
Uru followed his commanding officer through the gates until he suddenly stopped. Instinctively, the black knight's hands reached for the hilt of his sword, readying himself for whatever it was that caused the leading figure to freeze. He felt it too, the cold. The cold that seemed under his armor, beneath his skin, and into his bones. He looked through the darkness, seeing the black crystals that littered the courtyard, protruding from where they were nothing before. It was as if they were growing there, feeding off something to sprout their crystallization.
"We should report anything we find, but I would also advise that we don't get too curious and too close to anything. The dark hides many things."

Uru raised an amused brow toward the little woman beside him. He didn't get as angry outside of battle as one may think. His face was intimidating, perhaps his body to, but he was a softy. Usually. He turned to Shun, pointing at the other black knight. "Does she take anything seriously or is it just with you?"

Shun narrowed his eyes at Chel. Already, his patience was wearing thin with her, given how she wasn't able to even follow a simple request back by the lake.
At Uru's initial words, he nodded.
"Agreed. Please do not do anything stupid," he replied. That last bit was shot at Chel, however.
Grumbling under his breath, he added.
"As far as I am concerned, she is a wild card. Do not count on her," he said lowly. In other words... he pretty much felt that she was a liability. A feeling he had since their little private talk earlier. The things since then have not helped with that.

Withdrawing Remittuntur from its hard leather scabbard, he readied himself for anything that was to come. He held it in out beside him, regardless, in preparation. A sword without a tip is less useful when held in front of oneself, but beside, a good swing could take a head off. Or two.
Uru smirked at Shun and Chel. "Noted."

So creepy, the very silence of the room made her want to shiver and run away. Then there were the crystals. Glancing at them made her want to be sick, to see herself wounded.. or worse. No she wanted nothing to do with them, and luckily so far it seemed no one else did either. She picked up her pace as she moved down the hall, making certain not to touch anything.
"This does not feel good to me..." She checked her healing supplies and the pull on her bow a moment before heading to the door at the end of the hall. It was there she glanced back at any behind her. No.. best not to linger here, just the sight of the crystals from the corner of her eye brought a feeling of dread back. Something told her she was going to need the healing supplies she had before too long. She just hoped she was able to use them, if not Lady Woe was going to be her only hope.

Crystals, black crystals to be exact, had overtaken the castle and were very evidently spreading and growing in amount and prominence.
And if past experience were smartly followed, they were to be avoided, and Danirate aimed to do exactly that. He moved forward not combatively right now but he was ready to make the transition at any point in time. The path at present led to the throne room and he saw no problem with going that way first, last, eventually, ending up there, whatever the explanation may be. The point was he pressing on to the future regardless of what was ahead.

However, he, this man, tall and proud, and whose crown of hair likens to that of the sun at the horizon's edge, did indeed have plenty of ground to cover still before he was capable of being recognized as a knight no longer in training, the next milestone he has set his sights on. Were they retaking the castle, or were they entering a crystal cave? Every other inch of the hall was taken over by ominous clusters of black crystals, and their color made him wonder--where was the Black Great Knight? What had Merlin been up to since the Tower? What was his role in all of this hellish mess?
In passing, Jack spied his reflection in a large crystal and saw not himself, but a snarling, madly grinning version. More sidhe magic, or worse: something else yet unknown to them?
"Green Brigade, stay close and alert. If someone becomes injured, call your patients to keep the order." With how few were still active, they would have to be picky and sparing with where they went; he'd need to know where everyone was in order to calculate where to direct them. "And be careful not to touch those crystals," he added to Caoin with a small frown. "There are dark things reflected in them."
Estel and Shun were there already, and each were given a slight nod in greeting, though Jack's face was a little taut. The silence was eerie and put him on edge; in battle, at least, he knew where to strike. Unsurprisingly, Chel was being a little obnoxious again.
"You're an interesting character is all," he noted dryly.

Shun decided to ignore Chel's statement for the time being. He was busy keeping an eye on their surroundings for now, trying to spy any movement that wasn't from the knights. So far, it seemed there was nothing around. He did give a curt nod in turn to Jack, then went on to make his way down one of the halls.
Perhaps there was something elsewhere.

Pulling his coat around him to keep out the cold, Jason looked around warily at the black crystals that covered many areas of the castle, Their ominous feel keeping him well away. He'd already been under a spell before, and he was loathed to experience it ever again. Though he couldn't help but notice his reflection staring back at him with the same wide eyed nervousness, except with a white coat instead of a black one.
Putting on a more serious face, He cleared his throat. "Gold Brigade", Stay together for now and keep away from the black crystals. If you feel it safe, record what you see on your scrolls. Keep it short and to the point, we don't have time to write novels."
Since he could see no immediate danger, he took out his own set of scrolls, wrote a few notes about the black crystals, then placed it back within his coat.

A hall---no, it WAS a hall before. Now it's a cavern full of black crystals---the very same that almost drowned Galahad when he's Tainted by Greed.
Noticing the strange reflection of himself at the crystals' facets, he makes note not to touch any of them, even by accident. Hand behind his cloak, he quietly walked following the Black Great Knight. [exit to Throne!]

Trisha stared around at all the crystals. But she heard the new white knight's words. Stay close, inspect the ramparts. She could do that. "Those things give me the creeps." she did wind up staring into it, seeing a horned version of herself staring back. Flowers were still strung up in her hair, but... she touched her head, looking at the ribbons placed there. Hooves were in the place of her feet and the others also had monstrous reflections.
Don't touch. She shook herself and pulled her eyes away. She then crept over towards her white knight leader, staying close.
