It was his first time on the field with his new weapon. He'd practiced with Tempest as much as he could within the castle, but he needed experience against real enemies. And these were the enemies his weapon was meant to fight.
His unfamiliarity with Tempest caused him to miss when the Warg jumped out at him, slashing and snapping with shadowy teeth and claws.

Johan switched to several, small jabs with Tempest, a move he'd learned from some of the other Knights in the arena. He still took a blow to his side, but the barrage definitely had an effect on the monster.

The barrage seemed to have stunned the beast somewhat. Johan's next attack with Tempest cut deep, and it was readily evident that this was the type of weapon you needed to fight these creatures. The pain snapped the beast back into action, and it bit him, but Johan could see the Warg was learning to be wary of Tempest.

Pressing the attack, Johan whirled Tempest around, subjecting the Warg to a vicious onslaught of Tempest's extremely sharp blade. The Warg was left bleeding heavily, but still standing. It managed to bite him with the furor of an animal that had been backed into a corner.

Johan and the monster stared at each other for a moment, blood pooling at the Warg's feet. It's growl rattled liquidly in its throat. Baring its teeth, it snarled, and lunged at him. As the beast clawed him, Johan raised Tempest with two hands and buried it in the Warg's skull. It immediately went limp, save for a few residual twitches. Johan removed Tempest from it's skull, and wiped the blade clean.
A successful first hunt.
